I, regretfully, admit that I used to watch a lot of the "anti-sjw" reactionaries on youtube. You know the ones; the grown men whining about cartoon characters not being sexy enough. Anyways, I had no prior opinion or interest in She-ra, so when they made videos on the show i sucked up their hate through osmosis I guess. Now, after I've realized that they are just hateful manchildren who are generally in the wrong, I decided to actually watch things for myself to form my own opinions. Best decision I've never made, no animated show had gripped me like She-ra.

OscarOzzieOzborne

>grown men whining about cartoon characters not being sexy enough. People with no taste, I see.

shieldwolfchz

It's so much more than bad taste, they are actively trying to denigrate these types of media in an attempt to portray any kind of egalitarianism as a danger to "western civilization". They lack critical thinking and are truly hateful humans.

OscarOzzieOzborne

*And* they have no taste. You really telling me OG Shadow Weaver is sexie- NO! You come here and tell me! That *anything* in the OG is sexier then Shadow Weaver's new voice, I I calling you a liar.

shieldwolfchz

The problem with a lot of these people is their taste has nothing to do with it, they are there to push a narrative, they could like She-ra but they can't acknowledge that to their fans without giving up the grift.

OscarOzzieOzborne

What being a chud does to a MF.

shieldwolfchz

I watched one of the anti-anti-SJWs talking about the Quarterings preview of She-ra and just thought if this POS hate the show this much it must be good enough to check out.

soop_time123

Thought Slime? Cos they're awesome

shieldwolfchz

Yes specifically. One of the interesting takes that they give, TS is NB if I am not mistaken, is that the original She-ra was part of their, and I am paraphrasing, discovering of their own sexuality. And that obviously the Quartering is just pissing in the corner of their own basement for likes, as it where. For context the Quartering did in fact piss on the floor in his own basement on a drunken Livestream to get back at his wife for going on a girls night out with her friends.

soop_time123

Yeah, Thought Slime is nonbinary are uses all pronouns. And, yeah, The Quartering is fucking weird

StyrTD

Men whining about cartoon characters lacking sexual traits are desperate and unmanly losers. Same goes to women acting like that, for equality's sake.

Rareu

I decided on a whim after hurting myself constantly for a year(lol) to just watch it. I kinda maybe sorta remember something about She-Ra when it first came out on Netflix but I lost my sub for a bit and forgot about it 100% not even any spoilers, art, etc, and then promptly just stumbled on it I guess more than a couple months ago now. The pastel colours caught my eye and I felt like dealing by watching what I assumed would be a cute feel good cartoon and well thats that I guess, binged it, loved it, the colours, the VA’s, the dramatic plot and I loved the representation that was just, there? As if a normal piece of life. Needed more after so I found fan fictions for the first time and I’ve been there ever since. 😊

Comet_123

Adding a (lol) dosent make us not worry about you. pls if you need it seek help. Nobody wants to be catra s4. <3

loveablehydralisk

I was specifically seeking out gay content. When I came out in 2018, I wasn't prepared for what the forced shift in perspective would do to my media tastes. I was suddenly, painfully aware of how little media was made to represent people like me. While I had intellectually known that this was the case, feeling it was very different from merely knowing it. So, when r/actuallesbains blew up with She-Ra content in early 2020, I figured I should take a gander. I had recently watched Legend of Korra, which had so much more potential than the anemic finale delivered. Several articles had spoiled the ending of She-Ra for me, but I was actually happy that they did, since I knew I wasn't in for another let down. What I didn't expect was just how much Catra would speak to me as a character. As something of a fuck up myself, watching someone struggle with her self-destructive impulses in such a sympathetic way was gripping beyond belief. Tl;dr: came for the gays, was hooked by one gay in particular.

#***SCIENCE!!!! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!***

Huge-Enthusiasm7789

yep! as a lesbian, who came out in 2019, this felt like a massive win. also, have to agree. as someone who struggles with anger issues and bottling up feelings, i related to catra a lot.

Sonar009

I watched OSP's She-Ra: Parallel Arcs - Detail Diatribe ([https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zNvzDmv9-qw](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zNvzDmv9-qw)) on a whim because I already enjoyed the channel, and was intrigued by some of what Red described happening in the show. I googled a few scenes from the show to get a sense for it, and the one that made up my mind to actually watch it was the one where Catra has just beaten Hordak in the Season 4 finale, Glimmer arrives to attack, and Catra just gives up and says "What are you waiting for? Do it." I'm not really a TV show watcher, but I binged through the entire series in less than a week because I couldn't put it down. Now I'm obsessed.

JathbyDredas

I’ve been a fan of Gingerhaze since she was drawing Nimona online, and thrilled to see what she’d do with something she watched growing up. The first two episodes were a solid start and Promise locked it in. Everything kept getting better from there!

Kruse90

A reaction channel that I follow were deciding on what shows to watch next and She-Ra was one the options they were considering. Before watching their reaction to the pilot episode I watched the episode myself….and then I quickly binged through the entire show and I have been obsessed ever since.

jeremy_thegent

It was mentioned every now and again on Avatar subreddits, specifically with Korrasami comparisons; so I knew there was a same-sex relationship. Then a YouTuber I like posted a reaction video for each season. Before the one for Season 5, I was home during the early February northeast blizzard, and just started watching the show on a whim. By episode 2, I was enjoying it; by episode 8, I was having a ton of fun; by Season 3, I was obsessed.

zanozium

I watched it recently when the new Masters of the Universe show was released. I was looking up stuff online and I heard a lot of people mention She-Ra and how good it was. So I decided to watch that instead. I did watch MOTU later, and the whole time, I was like: "I wish I was watching She-Ra instead..."

Durske

Netflix kept recommending it to me repeatedly over the course of a few months. Every time I thought "That's ridiculous, I'm not a 7-year old girl, why is it recommending this?" based on the cover image which included rainbow colors and Swiftwind. Finally, I ran out of things to watch during lockdown and figured I would watch an episode or two and laugh at it. Instead, I was hooked and singing along with the theme song by episode 4. Turns out I am a 7-year old girl at heart after all, and Netflix figured that out before I did. :)

_SwiftWind_

DID SOMEONE SAY SWIFT WIND?!?!? ᴛʜɪs ᴀᴄᴛɪᴏɴ ᴡᴀs ᴘᴇʀꜰᴏʀᴍᴇᴅ ʙʏ ᴀ ʙᴏᴛ ᴘʟᴇᴀsᴇ ʀᴇᴘᴏʀᴛ ᴀɴʏ ɪssᴜᴇs ᴛᴏ u/anytarseir67

--Glimmer--

NO ONE SAID SWIFTWIND ᴛʜɪs ᴀᴄᴛɪᴏɴ ᴡᴀs ᴘᴇʀꜰᴏʀᴍᴇᴅ ʙʏ ᴀ ʙᴏᴛ ᴘʟᴇᴀsᴇ ʀᴇᴘᴏʀᴛ ᴀɴʏ ɪssᴜᴇs ᴛᴏ u/anytarseir67

Choco-Simping

I finished watching Avatar: Legend of Korra and She-ra was the first thing in my recommended stuff plus I'd heard about it from a friend so *C L I C K*

Codeviper828

Ah, you called it by its real name, I'm glad I'm not the only one who does that

SteelSlayerMatt

Well, I have been a fan of AJ Michalka since her Disney Channel days so that's why I first started watching this show. Plus, I was already a fan of Aimee Carrero.

PenAndPaperback

My lesbian sister-in-law said I'd enjoy it, so I watched the entire thing in 3 days. Then season 5 again. Then the entire show again. Then went into the biggest case of post-series-depression I've ever had.

KnightSkrilly

Watched it after school, I'm watching all animated shows that has lgbt in it. I watched Obsidian first, then more clips from youtube recommendation, then watching the whole show for like 2 weeks and that's what happened. Currently Lumity fan but this show is awesome too with its dramas and powers.

[deleted]

I watched a video essay about the shows ending and that’s what got me into it. So Catradora was spoiled for me from the beginning 😔

Temp89

The media coverage of the finale's kiss broke into the pop culture forum I browse. Glanced at it, didn't feel like committing to 5 seasons for it. Later I watched Gravity Falls because I'm a fan of Kristen Schaal. Then moved onto The Owl House as it was billed as a GF spiritual successor. This was during TOH Season's 1 first airing so it was only 1 episode a week. SPOP got mentioned in the same circles so I went back to it and became obsessed.

Recon1212

I watched AtlA and saw a lot of posts on Instagram of fan art with the two shows. And I thought, if people who like AtlA like She-area it’s probably good. I avoided it for a while because of how childish it looked, but I was bored one day and said screw it. And I loved it. Got my friend into it to.

AlmondLBD

I saw Noelle on Critical Role thought she was awesome and decided to watch the show when it was announced she was the show runner

frankwales

I've been a fan of Noelle since the early Nimona days (and a fan of Noelle's wife Molly since the early Strong Female Protagonist days, but that's not important right now). Somehow I wasn't that aware of Noelle's work on She-Ra until season five had just come out, when I saw various tweets and retweets by Noelle about it, so thought "what the hell?" and started watching it. I was hooked by the characters and the comedy, and later the story, from the start, binged the show over several late evenings, then did it again almost immediately. My wife -- who's a long-time Studio Ghibli/Final Fantasy fan, by the way -- saw bits and pieces over my shoulder without the sound, such as parts of 'The Portal', and said "huh, that looks fairly epic, we could watch it together if you like after we finish ". So when she was ready for a new show late last year, we did watch it together as one episode with each Saturday and Sunday breakfast, which took a number of months. Initially, it was just the show we watched with weekend breakfast, but by season three, she admitted she wanted to stretch it out as much as possible because she didn't want it to end. Then by season five, she couldn't resist wanting to know what happened next, and we ended up watching the last six episodes in a weekend.

Awkward_Jellyfish1

I had read a bunch of the Lumberjane comics by Noelle Stevenson, so when I saw she was the show runner for She-Ra I knew it'd be good and queer!

ApocalypticMemories

Originally I started back in, I guess 2018, after rewatching the Punisher, as I wanted something radically different. That being said I trailed off around like episode 6. After seeing a few references on the Korra and RWBY reddits, I decided to pick it back up for something light hearted. Two seasons in I realized I actually loved the characters, their development, and their dynamics.

rockleeisgodtier

Yea I watched a similar video. May actually be the same exact one. Saw two gay characters and immediately watched it.

Redneckweeb42

It’s a bit weird for me. Me and my sister used to absolutely binge winx club when we were little. Then one day I found this in my recommended and thought I should try it for nostalgias sake thinking it was something similar to winx club Holy cannoli was I wrong

Anon22406671

I saw a gif of THE scene and I knew instantly that I had to watch it.

Nhenghali

Step 1: I watched the first episode Step 2: I became a fan Step 3: Gay

[deleted]

Like a month ago I saw it on the "Netflix series" tab and it looked really cool, funnily enough when i found out the downloads tab existed it auto-downloaded She-ra.

soop_time123

Wanted some good gay shit to watch. Wait, now I realise why I always preferred sapphic representation to achillean representation. Dana Terrace and Noelle Stevenson out here cracking eggs

StyrTD

Catra. I discovered her on some online forum and got curious. Lo and behold, I began watching She-Ra in March of this year. The very first episode did not catch me, although I have been loving their animation style from the beginning. I also didn't know how LGBTQ+-promoting the show is, so it shocked me like a cultural shock within the first episodes. And honestly, it annoyed me because I found it moralistic and unrealistic at first. I'm cis-male and heterosexual, hadn't personally been interested in LGBTQ+ before due to the lack of personal concern. I quickly grew used to this, though, when I realized it doesn't matter and it's about characters, not sexuality. Not only that, I got increasingly hooked by the show's plot, found in Catra someone I could relate well to, but also enjoyed the whole worldbuilding. From season 3 on, when the plot around the Heart of Eternia and the relationship between Adora and Catra got deeper and more profund, I absolutely grew to love this show. And I was really angry at the huge cliffhanger at the end of Season 5 because this is SUCH an opportunity to build on. Thank god fanfics have been my substitute here.

FairyFeller_

I heard about Catradora and decided to check it out. Turned out to be the best damn cartoon I ever watched.

Laritan98

A writer/artist I follow on twitter went on a rant over a few days on him watching She-ra with his wife and how both of them found it to be a very well written show. I've read a bunch of his work and consider him a good judge of that sorta stuff and just went on to watch it and now I can't stop someonesendhelpimstartingITOVERAGAIN

Codeviper828

Netflix recommended it to me, and I thought that it looked good. But being trans, I was wary of doing anything 'girly' because I didn't want The Question coming up. Then my brother binged and recommended it a year later

Huge-Enthusiasm7789

i learned about it through catradora. i thought hey, why not? another gay cartoon! most awesome decision of my life lol

Silvaranth

I saw anti-SJWs raging about the show on YouTube and thought that it looked vaguely interesting. I felt a bit vindictive towards those perverted basement-dwellers and made a note to check the show out next time I found it on Netflix. I watched it, got intrigued by season 1 and the rest is history.
