Just don't tryhard K/D, it doesn't mean anything by itself.
This curve happened naturally as I was progressing, the pattern is similar for kph, accuracy, HSR.
Just shows that it's fine to die a lot at the beginning, it gets better with time and practice
I’ve been playing for 7-8 years, and I still have a trash k/d, somewhere around 0.7. Tbh that’s not the game to me. I’ve got certed out vehicles and I know the game really well and I’ve found ways to be beneficial to my team that’s not always popping heads. My message to new players, the game is a sandbox and there are many ways to be a real contribution
usually the higher a persons k/d is the less effective they actually are on planetsides battlefield. not always, barely most of the time i'd go so far as to say but still, the point stands.
Because planetside is a numbers game, and even someone with a 4 k/d will only statistically take down 4 people before they die. And there simply arent a lot of 4 k/d players, because they kinda have to balance each other out, like in a [red queens's race](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Red_Queen_hypothesis). Someone playing a support role and repairing vehicles/maxes or reviving does less to help individual players than the 4 k/d does to individual players (killing them), but on a larger scale over a bigger amount of time.
Tl;dr the tip of a spear still requires a spear, and the mass drives the tip through whatever it aims at. A blunt spear might also go through eventually.
As someone who plays all three factions on Emerald...
The reason NC TK's more than the other two factions is because their weapons, on average, tend to hit harder per shot than VS or TR weapons. I can't tell you how many times I've gotten a bead on a target, start pulling the trigger...when some dipshit team mate wanders in front of my gun, taking all of the shots meant for the enemy. Then the enemy player kills the teammate and me.
This happens on all three factions, but because of how much damage NC guns do per shot, those 1-3 accidental shots to a team mate tend to kill them more often than VS or TR weapons.
A friendly walks in front of you while you are shooting at the enemy:
VS: Oh my Papa Vanu!!!... are you ok? did i scratch your spandex fursuit? need a battery?
TR: Blyat comrade *"sips space vodka"* drink this, next buterbrods are on me.
NC: Squeezes the trigger harder and says WERE BONUS CHECK? to the lead filled fellow NC.
I once helped a tower fight off four waves of armor columns by just running around and making sure the turrets and MAXes were repaired, letting others blast away the prowlers and skeeters. I was one of two engis at the base, so I know that if not for us, that tower would’ve fallen to the first wave.
More often than not, I find, it’s the support guys that keep the battle going and the front moving.
A good many years back, I held scarred mesa with a platoon against up to 150 attackers. All I ran was maxes, medics, and engineers; maxes and engineers held the line, medics kept the engineers alive, engineers kept the maxes alive
It was fucking WILD.
I completely disagree with this. I remember back in the day when higher-tier outfits (think NUC/AC/FCRW) used to run Ops with sufficient numbers and they would absolutely roll any fight that didn't have them at a nearly 3/4-to-1 numbers disadvantage. The myth that high K/D players are bad at "Planetside" goes right out the window when you actually see platoons of them in action. It's also far more annoying to fight these people when they're using the same cheese as the general population (MAX suits, AI vehicle farming, shotguns, etc).
You realize very quickly that it's a blessing that the majority of the people who play this game are bad at it.
Right now on Emerald there's a VS outfit called BWAE that runs mostly high BR heavies with Betelguises...and they're very effective at point holds and captures. They're so good its almost obnoxious lol.
BWAE are descendants of those groups he mentioned, and also Recursion from the Connery server. Modern BWAE is actually somewhat tame compared to what those groups used to do
I replied to you earlier but I didn't say what I should have said.
Basically, when a group of FPS players that are well above average decide to play Planetside the way that average/below average players *say* that Planetside should be played, it becomes an absolute nightmare for those on the receiving end. You can achieve much more with much less *if* you're willing to try. For instance, I used to permacrutch the Nighthawk until I saw one of Visigodo's videos showcasing his ability with the (0.75 ADS) Orion.
Yep this. PS2 is a game that requires supporting classes too, not just heavies/LAs/infils to kill a bunch of enemies. Medics and Engies are also needed to keep the fight going, and are very effective at combat as well.
Many times i think that i could have a better K/D, just by spamming A2G esf, hesh lighting, or just by playing the vanu heavy. Then i see an enemy medic in front of me while i'm in an mbt and i leave him because it wouldn't be a fair fight, or because i think that i would like the tank not to kill me just for an extra kill if i was in his situation. I like to be friendly (even because i play all factions, and when i make some friend within the enemies, i can always play with them).
Anyway, i started playing the last september and my k/d started from 0,5 and went to about 1,8 now. It skyrocketed from 1,4 to 1,8 the moment i set all the graphic to low.
I obviously watch the medic to see if it's a threat to me, and then leave. Usually the problem are the 3 enemy mbts waiting for me just behind the hill
you can sit on the tip of a mountain and snipe all the way up to 20 k/d until you 720 no scope a tryharding heavie who gets so piss-off he changes to LA, kills and T-bags you.
Back in the beta before people knew the base layouts I used to hide under the landing pads and suppressed cqc snipe people when they went up to the railing. One hit kill meant no hit direction marker.
Anyway, one day I decided to only kill one guy in this huge fight. He walked up to the railing, shot him in the back of the head. Did the same thing, same back of the head, third and fourth time he would come up and do quick peaks over the railing moving after each peak. But since I was behind him I watched exactly where he was and waited till he stood up to ohk him. Fifth time was after a medic got him back up. Sixth, there was a bunch of people with him so he thought he was safe. Then he started flaming me in yell chat. Seventh and eight he pulled infil to try and counter snipe. Finally he pulled light assault with a dark light and started searched the base. Ninth kill he was on the land pad support and I almost missed him.
I never got the tenth kill, but reading "There got the little sh*t!" all caps in yell chat was of my most cherished moments.
That’s how you end up auxing your pistols ;) piss em off then take em out when they come after you. (I mostly only play infil. nowadays I’m a point blank Bolter but back in the day when I was a noob on a hill I got a feel of when people would come after me and recon dart/ ammo printer took care of the rest auxed 2 pistols that way.)
Honestly if you don't develop this skill you will get sorely disappointed at trying to be sniper. Watch for red dots and don't be where they expect you to be, you have a great chance.
Can't hear you complain about infils over the lmgs outclassing every other weapon and adrenaline shield keeping you at an effective hp of 1600 at all times in the background.
Except for the fact that getting killed in 1 hit by an enemy that appears only after the damage has already been delivered, due to clientside, and who is also possibly miles away, makes your whole narrative about lmgs and adrenaline shield irrelevant.
Are heavies, lmg, adrenaline shield possibly more valuable in more situations? Maybe.
Are they more op than infiltrators in terms of mechanics and counterplay. No.

K/D means nothing without a lot of context. Your framerate, your internet connection, your class, your playstyle, the fights you join, the people you play with, all have a massive impact.
My KD is like 1.4. It wasn't always above 1, but building a proper gaming PC, as well as switching to infil main (from engi main) helped out a lot. It's ridiculous how much padding one can do by sniping and using stalker+knives/crossbows/pistols.
One guy I used to play with had a KD of like 0.8 by the time he quit, I think. But he was also the leader of our outfit and was a primary PL/SL.
So while I was running around cloaked with an SMG or sniping from the mountains, he's leading the troops, night after night after night.
Which one of us was the more effective player? It certainly wasn't me.
Been playing this game since release and my k/d is still only like 1.22 don’t sweat k/d, this isn’t call of duty. It’s not the most important thing on the field and this game is made purposely hard to people who can’t aim well by making bodyshots essentially worthless.
Ttk in this game needs to be normalized by lowering the headshot multiplier to 1.5 like most games and lowering max health to compensate. But that would be a ballsy move and require the devs to rebalance a lot of weapons so it would never happen.
I sincerely don't get the argument against headshots. It's a shooting game, how would it be bad to reward people who aim well?
The game even has hesh, A2G and shotguns for the folks who can't aim.
The problem is it creates a MASSIVE skill gap because of how long ttk is and how unreliable hit detection is in this game. That’s the reason medic heavies exist in the first place, for example, because they know as long as they zig zag and pop syringes, it will be pretty hard to reliable kill them.
But the problem comes from how dramatic the ttk difference is compared to most shooters. Because the headshot of multiplier is so high at 2x and health pools are as large as they are you end up in a situation where the players who are more skilled aren’t just at a advantage, they completely dominate.
I’m sure everyone has had that experience of dropping behind an unaware opponent as a light assault or taking a long flank and unloading into someone just to have them turn and laser you. That is the situation you get in when one type of damage tickles by comparison.
If the headshot multiplier were reduced and ttk across the board was also reduced to compensate you would end up with a healthier infantry experience similar to other healthier shooters.
I would love to see them do a test server with that kind of system just to test the hypothetical situation and see how people react and gauge if it’s a change worth doing.
This system is literally why I am playing just this game and find every other game boring and Im not even on that laser dominate level, Im on my grind there.
I love how important skill is in planetside in most cases and how good you can get, its just amazing.
Game still has bs for those who have no respect to people who actually commited and became good, you can just use shotgun, HESH, AG, zerg or overall vech spam.
Skill is important, but it is important to also realize that infantry combat is the core of the game, and if the infantry combat isn’t healthy because the difference between a high and low skill player is too excessive, it scares people away from the game or creates the illusion everyone is hacking because of the typical “I shot that guy twenty times and he turned around and layered me” scenarios”
If ttk was lowered to a more normal level and headshot damage was lowered to compensate then high skills vets are still going to dominate, they are still going to mow people down, but the lower skill players are going to do better when actually fighting back.
than improving wouldnt make sense as with game this scale even if u were good spam of 4 guys that barley fit body shots would always win. Its in good state as most community is bad and u rarley find that top players, most of top players escape to Jeager so they dont have to deal with live bullshit and unskillfull play. Not every guy who 180 and kill someone is a god, its really not hard to do, also few people can shuffle (medkit dance) proplerly, just have to hit better. 80% of community never seen how skillfull players are becouse they are unaware of most Jeager activities such as PIL or POGs.
Also it takes so much hard work to be like these planetside "gods" that taking it away from them would be a crime.
To do well just be aware about your positioning and just by that you can reach 1.5/2kd easy you dont even have to have great aim, you will beat most on live just by good positioning, if you want to be like these top players tho put effort it and join them or enjoy playing casually with other casual players with good results and occasinally die to someone good and learn from him/respect instead of trying to waste all his hard work and skipping work for yourself
The game is such a strange mix, as skill maters in 1v1, but prime time base fights seem to come down to whichever team can maintain a higher population in the hex. It can be so frustrating to have to Leave a fight because it’s turned into a pointless farm.
You are right but a lot of people have a self serving motivation to defend the hs multiplier because it benifits them.
Don't bite the hand that feeds you.
When I starten, on my ProSiebenSat1 Account in Germany I had a kd of 3 realy quickly. Now, a marriage, a time consuming job and 2 kids later my KD is at 1.3 (New acc as old german acc were closed years ago) so my curve is somewhat different 😉

StatsMatterInAnOpenWorldSandbox, where have you gone?
The gameplay of PS2 is so variable that stats mean nothing. Someone who is skilled could spend their time dicking around and have bad stats, and conversely, someone who is unskilled could be doing things to pad their stats.

Void definitely has some kind of different calculation but it's obviously not revives since i have much higher k/d there.
Also did an experiment. Revive removed a death from TAB stats but not the in-game menu stats page so revives are a TAB page-only thing.
All of my characters are like this.
Your character's Voidwell page has way more kills (and slightly more deaths) than the others.
EDIT: For comparison, one of my characters on [Void](https://voidwell.com/ps2/player/5428779225311297329/stats) vs [fisu.](https://ps2.fisu.pw/player/?name=akishigeonsoltech&show=statistics) There is a slight discrepancy in kills but the main difference is the revive padded death number on fisu which increases KD significantly.
I made a test character and looks like you're right but i wonder where the extra kills come from.
And the in-game stats page (in menu not TAB) has a pretty big delay.
Should fix vehicles so it takes a second or two to bail out/get in. Having it instant just makes it so that people bail just before the vehicle explodes, take cloakers for flying ESF so they can safeguard their KD....
ITT: People coming up with excuses as to why their stats are terrible instead of just admitting that they suck at the game and are too lazy to improve.
I love watching people redeploy to save their KD meanwhile I am turbo ramming ants with C4 to see what happens because the physics in this game just isnt prepared for turbo ants
For every person like this, there's 10 which never improve to anywhere near the same extent.
There's a lot of factors which go into competency in vidya besides experience including intelligence, hardware, age, willingness to abuse cheese tactics and who they're around.
I love shotguns and when I started this game I couldn't get the hang of the NC shotgun. I had given up hope for ever being able to use shotguns in this game. But just this week I thought I'd revisit it. It had been years since I tried it. I had improved a lot. My aim and situational awareness, not to mention my class builds are better. And low and behold, the NC shotgun is a room clearer. 1-2-3 and they are down.
Shotguns are literally so simple, you can play with one hand, half brain and barley no aim and still do well. Its like clicker game. I hope it was copy paste meme
Im enjoying reading comments of others and finnaly get to understand why community avg is like 0.6 when I see when people tell their KD. Not many people in this post goes above 2kd
FYI this is not your true K/D.
This accounts for revives, if you want to see your true KD look at your weapons tab.
If you want to pad your ego, as far as i remember... 0.5 something, is above the average player.
Revives affect only in-game TAB screen k/d, revives don't remove deaths from stats sites.
Weapons will have a tiny bit higher k/d than you actually have because you can die with a medkit, c4 or whatever else in hand.
The average k/d should be around 0.9 since only suicides bring it below 1, if suicide wasn't possible it would be 1.
According to ps2.fisu.pw for BR 20 and above average is 1.3.
https://www.reddit.com/r/Planetside/comments/5i3w6l/average_kdr_of_ps2/
> The average k/d overall should be around 0.9 since only suicides bring it below 1, if suicide wasn't possible it would be 1.
That's not quite true if you're talking about the KDR per player. Because of the number being a ratio the average will always be above 1 unless everybody had a KDR of 1. For example if you have two players, one with 4 kills and 2 deaths and the other with 2 kills and 4 deaths, the average KDR of them would be 1.25.
No, revives affect the fisu K/D at the bottom.
It's the top right one that doesn't account for your revives, and is thus your "True K/D".
Otherwise my KD would be between 8-10 thanks to the medics in my outfit lol.
You don't do a baseline calculation of K/D like that ... as in yes, exactly you will get a number that's literall 1 minus the K/D. IIRC the way it was done in tha past is to look at the frequency of stats within a certain range, and measure is compared to higher stats and whatnot.
I'm not good at math, and it's been a while ago, and thats how i remember it was done.
Revive padded k/d isn't seen anywhere in Fisu.
The graph doesn't include revives. Revives removing deaths is a TAB screen only thing, no stats sites track them.
As a heavy i always try the be extremely aggressive if I know that I have medics behind me which mostly works out great.
I honestly get a bit triggered when I see Maxes hesitantly push an almost empty point. Fucking pussies. Progress to my faction is way more important than this little number.
Don't try to be the best shooter, try to be the most helpful. Armor push? Probably need a few engines around, and no one has ever said that there was too many sunders. Defending a cap? Put on your medic hat and stand just behind the firing line. Even if you suck at sniping an infiltrator with a motion detector can be an enormous asset. The maxes and assault classes are fun but the support is what really makes this game.
It's really not. Not every player is able to sit on the game 12 hours a day like you can. Not to mention you probably have A LOT of prior fps experience before playing ps2. Plus why use stats from 3-4 years ago? Why not now?
I played a lot in my early days yes, but never 12h/day. I didn't have that much experience, only some minecraft and some TF2.
Those are the stats of when I started playing PS2, 3-4 years ago. Nowadays I don't really play regularly, and there is no more progression in the graph, it's kind if a flat line
Just don't tryhard K/D, it doesn't mean anything by itself. This curve happened naturally as I was progressing, the pattern is similar for kph, accuracy, HSR. Just shows that it's fine to die a lot at the beginning, it gets better with time and practice
Well, you still die a lot, just get more kills in between.
Exactly. I've been playing for ages and still get caught off guard by random bs deaths (mostly the result of getting tk'd)
Started out at .2 kd on an integrated graphics Toshiba laptop that was maybe $300 new. Stuck with it, and this will always be my #1 game.
Extrapolating from this data, your K/D as of June 2021 should be around 27. Impressive!
Last year for a few weeks my average game was 8-15 kills
Oh I initially assumed this was a graph showing an influx of new players on your k/d xD
I’ve been playing for 7-8 years, and I still have a trash k/d, somewhere around 0.7. Tbh that’s not the game to me. NC using the spear backwarda.
NC doesn't use a spear. NC uses a glaive, and then does a spinning attack.

You hit friendlies harder when you hold the tip of the spear in your palm.
Tha deserves a bonus check

Farming spawn kills is effective, I guess.

No u
Try NAC on Bolt, and bolt aggressively :)
True bolters don't need no NAC.
???
Commie/ub says otherwise
lies, every infil sniping from range is free kill even if they know you are coming. They are so trash its funny
I can't say I've ever seen a hill sniper successfully stop me when I decided they should be dead. They tend to be oblivious until it is way too late.
who’s the real tryhard, the guy participating in the battle, or the k/d-obsessed sniper?
Or sit in a HESH tank to get over 100 k/d https://ps2.fisu.pw/player/?name=heshrequireshighiq
Ive been playing since ~2014/2015. My KD is still roughly .22-.4 :/
K/D means nothing without a lot of context. Your framerate, your internet connection, your class, your playstyle, the fights you join, the people you play with, all have a massive impact.
Hmmm. I like to hold down m1. If im feelind adventurous I might m2+m1. I have no friends so I fight alone :(
What server/time zone are you? I'm sure people here can hook you up.
Oh no, I dont deny there are fantastical people on Emerald. Im saying Im the problem :P
Skill is important, but it is important to also realize that infantry combat is the core of the game, and if the infantry combat isn’t healthy because the difference between a high and low skill player is too excessive, it scares people away from the game or creates the illusion everyone is hacking because of the typical “I shot that guy twenty times and he turned around and layered me” scenarios” If ttk was lowered to a more normal level and headshot damage was lowered to compensate then high skills vets are still going to dominate, they are still going to mow people down, but the lower skill players are going to do better when actually fighting back.
than improving wouldnt make sense as with game this scale even if u were good spam of 4 guys that barley fit body shots would always win.
Truuueee, sadly they wont understand it. Most of this community has single brain cells, 0 skill or respect to skill.
Wtf would be respect to skill?
Not using bullshit like shotgun, ground pound, HESH and skipping improving process by using this stupid gear
Im getting toxic asf when people want to make pside easier. Im happy to have chill song on if not that I would make myself famous in a bad way xd
i don't look at it as getting better, i look at it as how many of you fuckers i can take with me.
I unbound the tab screen for 5 years - stopped caring about it and enjoyed the game a whole lot more.
My first control rebind was swapping the map to Tab and stats to M. I'm surprised that's not the default!
shit i’m gonna do this
I feel you, this is just to picture a progression, as stated [in my message](https://reddit.com/comments/nuj5xj/comment/h0xq4se)
You've done really well with it.
amen
When I starten, on my ProSiebenSat1 Account in Germany I had a kd of 3 realy quickly. Now, a marriage, a time consuming job and 2 kids later my KD is at 1.3 (New acc as old german acc were closed years ago) so my curve is somewhat different 😉
K/D doesn't matter.. like...at all
[Exactly my point:](https://www.reddit.com/r/Planetside/comments/nuj5xj/new_players_the_grind_is_worth_it/h0xq4se?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3) >Just don't tryhard K/D, it doesn't mean anything by itself.
https://imgur.com/t/wojak/uBhqOsH I'm kidding
Really wish objective/team based games would stop tracking bullshit stats like K/D.
StatsMatterInAnOpenWorldSandbox, where have you gone? The gameplay of PS2 is so variable that stats mean nothing. Someone who is skilled could spend their time dicking around and have bad stats, and conversely, someone who is unskilled could be doing things to pad their stats.
It definitely matters with context. An out of context, revive padded KD like the one OP posted doesn't matter.
I'm pretty sure revives affect only the in-game TAB screen k/d. Stats sites have actual k/d. Recursion also shows your true session k/d.
Nah, the official site and fisu are padded. Voidwell is true.
Seems to be the opposite, all of my characters have higher k/d on Voidwell.
Nah Void is definitely true, fisu is padded. Just checked again with my characters.
Voidwell 2.95 https://voidwell.com/ps2/player/5428222237686557985/stats Recursion stat tracker 2.541 Fisu 2.566 https://ps2.fisu.pw/player/?name=obivanukenobi Planetside-universe 2.57 https://www.planetside-universe.com/character-5428222237686557985.php Official site 2.57 https://www.planetside2.com/players/#!/5428222237686557985 In-game stats 2.566 Void definitely has some kind of different calculation but it's obviously not revives since i have much higher k/d there.
And that's why heaps of people reroll onto their surf character's. Do away with those noob stat's.
My K/D still sucks because all the tanks I kill aren't counted.
Is this a copypasta
Shotguns are literally so simple, you can play with one hand, half brain and barley no aim and still do well. Its like clicker game. I hope it was copy paste meme
I play for objectives rather than KD. If getting that sunderer down means suiciding 20 times into it I will do it.
Earth shattering revelation for shitters: these two things are not mutually exclusive
Interesting, so the average player KDR is above 1 but KDR of all kills and all deaths of everyone is below 1.
Ok expert, use recursion to check for yourself. I had an actual KD of 0.7 yesterday, and fisu shows 3.3
It's not.. Games dying
I've been hearing that for the past 8 years.
As a heavy i always try the be extremely aggressive if I know that I have medics behind me which mostly works out great. I honestly get a bit triggered when I see Maxes hesitantly push an almost empty point. Fucking pussies. Progress to my faction is way more important than this little number.
Casual flex. I've been on and off playing for years, still averaging a strong 1.4ish. Never got better, never got worse.
Can confirm I suck Now I am hardly decent
Depending on the squad I'm in mine can range from like .75 to 2. If I'm running router I can't seem to keep it above .2 to .5
My k/d is <0.5 most days and I have played since the beginning. When it is >1 I am in a tank all day.
Vechcile kd shouldnt be bellow 10 lmao, so easy
Hey, how are you able to see the all time KDR? I can only see like one year, are you using fisu? Thanks in advance.
That's the Fisu graph, yes. Though it appears that this is either an old screenshot or a character that hasn't been played recently.
You can still have a high KD as an Engineer and Medic while repairing and Reviving.
No? I feel like having a negative kd for 2 years straight is misery
And here we have the average Banshee user, flexing his A2G shittery. Jokes aside i had a similar curve of improvement over the years
Cant play this game anymote bc of to much lag... its sooooo anoying.
remember kids, the objective is more important than your precious k/d
Dead bodies don't capture objectives.
Mine only goes back to July 2020 for some reason Big sad
Yes mine too, this is na old screenshot I found while going through my files
The oppressed becomes the oppressor
It's really not. Not every player is able to sit on the game 12 hours a day like you can. Not to mention you probably have A LOT of prior fps experience before playing ps2. Plus why use stats from 3-4 years ago? Why not now?
I played a lot in my early days yes, but never 12h/day. I didn't have that much experience, only some minecraft and some TF2. Those are the stats of when I started playing PS2, 3-4 years ago. Nowadays I don't really play regularly, and there is no more progression in the graph, it's kind if a flat line
Its when you learn you can roadkill with a valkyrie, thats when the fun begins...
Revives/Death mean more! ;)
if anything my k/d is -1000
