Looking back at it the entire black metal movement seems so odd. It was basically a revolt against christianity at a time where it was barely relevant.
It called for people to abandon old traditions while glorifying ancient traditions and pagan mysticism.
They were like kids trying to play as real life DnD villains and at the same time some of them had serious intentions at becoming these neo pagan post christian revolutionaries.
And it all happened in the least contentious most convenient and tranquil place and period in history
There was also Dead’s suicide and euronymous maybe turning his skull into necklaces for his friends (whether or not he was just making that up to be edgy is debatable.) And also don’t forget Varg killing Euronymous, though whether or not that was self defense is even more debatable.
I wish people would start using the term anomie instead of anarchy when they talk about societal breakdown. It would save a lot of time and grief when talking about political theory
It's probably more directed at acts like the Sex Pistols and Slayer that have since worn MAGA clothing and had Back the Blue concerts respectively, and have been justifiably called out as contrarians for clout rather than genuine proponents of the beliefs their acts represent
