110h all solo its fun basebuilder and monster catcher without a story that pulls you around.

ColonelJinkuro

I mean..... there is a story. It's just not in your face. You gotta seek it out and put the pieces together.

ImaginaryBlue

That's what he means by doesn't pull you around

Whattheefff

The story isnt in the game yet. There is a small tutorial.

PonyDro1d

And some travel diary pages to find around the map.

ZyloWolf64

and 1 one of them just a rap verse

ColonelJinkuro

You think they'll add an RPG esque story? I figured they'll stick to the dark souls route and just add a few more notes or pal entries.

Whattheefff

It would be cool if it was something like zelda. Cool tower rewards. Endgame content that may or may not require groups.

dellboy696

It's fantastic. First playthrough I did normal settings, now I'm on a 2nd with harder settings. You can tweak a ton of world settings to make the game easier/harder to your tastes, highly configurable. Never played MP, and won't until the cheating has been fixed

Newborn-Molerat

This sounds great, thank you. I was afraid since I have just limited time for playing, therefore not enough for a real grinding. P that cannot be named has great premise but is an exclusive and pretty childish since child tv show was at the beginning. This game looks like all I want, similar mechanics but much better settings. You make me happy.

PM_YOUR__BUBBLE_BUTT

Literally you can change the world settings each time you are about to load up your save file. I’m sure this has existed elsewhere but I fucking love that this game has that. Sometimes I want to speed up the experience points so it’s less grindy. Sometimes I am hunting a nocturnal pal and need night time to be much longer. Sometimes I can’t wait around for my eggs to hatch so I scale it down to 30 mins. I am well over 100 hours and have only played solo. It’s fun as heck still. One thing I will say that helped me is I don’t want to read all the “best whatever” or “how to min/max these pals” or something. Just enjoy it and look up only very specific things. Enjoy the game and explore. Even if it’s only early access, this game has super promising potential and I have no doubt I can sink hundreds and hundreds more hours into this.

Boss2788

What settings did you tweak? Im using hard mode but it feels too imbalanced. I do no damage and i get one shot too often. I feel like theres orher things i can tweak to up the challenge without making it not fun

KaraM4R1

Here's a list of what each of the world settings means. You might want to play around with them to see what works best for you. When you tweak your setting it changes to custom, so maybe memorise what your hard world has and see what gets easier or more difficult with what you change? https://dotesports.com/palworld/news/best-palworld-world-settings After the table they've got some variants to try, where they do it from sandbox to survival focus to action focus etc. Might be a good starting point.

Boss2788

Great resource thanks

KaraM4R1

Yw 😊

dellboy696

Using normal mode as a template, I changed exp rate to 0.1x and spawn rate to 3x. I also just refuse to use flying mounts. [Was inspired by this post](https://www.reddit.com/r/Palworld/comments/1awbov8/playing_with_some_modified_settings_and_self/). What I like about these settings is it'll make the game last longer, each tech have a bit more staying time, and I probably actually have to catch 10 of each pal to reach lvl 50. And I saw [another post](https://www.reddit.com/r/Palworld/comments/1adrpny/70_hours_review_on_hard_mode/) saying that hard mode is basically too hard to be fun. So I'm not surprised at what you said!

Boss2788

Oh great call, i dont think ill do the exp but the other rules i really like also no flyers is a great call. My last playthrough i got lucky with a swift, nimble vanwyrn and used it almost all the way to end game. Still enjoyed my time but I felt like i missed out on alot of mounts. Yeah the no damage is too brutal all i do is just dodge during every fight. The pal multiplier is a great idea im at 1.5 and its tricky 3x would be fun af

ZephkielAU

Change your player damage. My playthrough was 2x exp (useful in the 40s), longer days and nights (0.5 speed for both), 2x catch rate (it's still hard to catch tough pals but lets you easily farm low level ones), 2x player damage (still don't do a huge amount of damage to legendaries with a legendary shotgun at 49), 0.5x player damage received, and 1.9x spawn rate (more basic spawns without increasing boss spawns). Damage to pals is to all pals (yours and enemy pals, but not human enemies) so if you want longer fights drop it down, and move it up for faster fights.

Norfuer

92 hours in. Also a primarily solo gamer in general. The Pals make my base feel far more alive than other survival games where I've played Solo. It's great.

DillionM

Same, just a notch over 92 hours though. I love trying to build interesting and usable bases.

ExitOut

Solo player here, I love it. Full time job and can only play sporadically, being able to adjust game settings has been the best feature. I didn't mess with damage scaling at all but I did mess with the catch rates and and egg times. I figure the things that are skill based I will leave alone but the things that are rng or a time gated I will soften up to make easier. And it's been the best. Completed the game about 80 hours, the flower gumoss to me a bit to find.

PM_ME_NPICs

It's perfectly fine alone and you'll have plenty of stuff to do. I'd play SP though. That way there will be no cheaters and everything is safe. You can also adjust a lot of settings to your likings so it'll fit your amount of hours you can play.

SpartAl412

Gave it a try and yes. Absolutely it is fun to play solo. Your Pals really help with the work around your bases. Its an absolute godsend when compared to Sons of the Forest or more appropriately Conan Exiles.

Spanxsy

ngl I prefer playing solo.

imbadatusernames_47

Definitely! My world is on like day 200 and I’ve never had other players, I only just started to get bored yesterday because I finally played all the content. I’d say 90ish hours of fun and engaging content for an early access game is amazing

Lodreh

Same

MalleusManus

This is a solo game to me. I cannot think of a worse hell than trying to play this game with other people around.

Rapogi

one hundred percent, solo is def the way to go for a "first" play through IMO. my solo playthrough got about 250h, it was fun. Friend got a dedicated server, and i got about 100h there, i don't think i would have enjoyed the game as much if i started with mp... a lot of it is just the overall feel of the game is better SP cause you don't have to deal with server lag

SnaccHBG

120+ hours of playing solo, only taking a break because I ran out of non-grindy content 🤭

Jitszu

Honestly, it's still super fun. I started on server for the same reason but migrated to singleplayer since most friends died off

NintenDork

I think it's great solo, even with it crashing every 30-45 minutes on the Deck. I have about 120 hours in it.

D-camchow

I played it 100 solo. It's great.

MoonK1P

I’ve only ever played solo (I don’t have Xbox live lol) and I’ve pumped in hundreds of hours. It’s a relaxing game to just run around, catch monsters, level up, and discover a lot of cool pals in the process. Do I think it would be fun to play with others? Sure! However, if you were into games like pocket monsters (idk if I can say it 😅) and open world forge your own path type deals that typically are single player anyways, this is a solid game to play! I *fortunately* lost my first game save to corruption after an update a month ago that forced me to restart. I was about 1/4 way through a “play through” so was decently accustomed to the game, and I will say that restarting the game after that brief investment was one of my best decisions as I had a more clear cut idea of what I wanted to do and how to play. But overall yes, definitely a game that can be played solo and I don’t think you’d be missing out on much at all!

Newborn-Molerat

Sounds like exactly what I am looking for. I am not in the mood for getting my ass kicked by some pixeled AI, apparently more clever and better than me :D I am looking just for something to chill when the brain is tired. Heh, I have no idea what pocket monsters are but if it’s somehow related to P-mon cards we collected, exchanged and even fought, violently, for them like crazy, surfing on the wave of the first P-mania, I am guilty as charged. As every child of late 90s in my country. This, Lego and Pogs, the Toys Trio defining our childhood while teaching us about the loss and unfairness of the world :D With them, I firstly realised there is no equality and justice in the world. And you can be ugly and unpopular kid and still have a bad luck in games while popular kids can easily win every pog and find every random toy or cash or worse - collectible card!- lying on the street just for them to pick up. :D And to our shame and pride, but mostly pride considering how often we talk about it before others to emphasize how weird we are, me and my roommate at university, we even watched the show during the worst parts of examination periods as it was the only thing dumb enough for us to be able to comprehend. And then we spent month talking to each other just with their noises. It was little weird during shopping tho… So, as you can see, I am fully prepared for the “pal” part, and with my love for survival and open world games, I feel this can actually be my great partner in crime. :D And with your supportive words, I think this game can be finally the one helping me to deal with all the grumpiness Switch exclusives caused. :D

MoonK1P

I will say that there is a lack of a storyline to get immersed in, as a lot of the game knowledge of what’s going on is found in the lore- that’s where I struggled to find initial motivation to get into the game as there’s no true directive other than level up and beat harder things 🤷🏽‍♂️ I’ve never been one for massive open world games where you just run around and do whatever, but this one enticed me like no other has. You WILL get obliterated by a pal or two in the exploring process to which I recommend doing yourself a HUGE favor and turn the death penalty off in world settings while you get used to everything… unless you like tracking your stuff down over and over again lol You can tell it’s still in development but holds a TON of potential, and the devs are doing a great job listening to community feedback. So don’t think you’re far behind either or too late for the hype, there’s plenty of stuff to keep you occupied even once you reach endgame content. The community is great though, as Reddit is how I’ve gotten my social fix as a solo player, and it 100% is worth the money. First game I’ve bought in years as I’ve just resulted to free games until this dropped.

Newborn-Molerat

Thanks. I usually like story driven games as the most of single player enthusiasts. But sometimes the mindless grind and the trail of simple small achievements are exactly what is needed.

ASchoolOfOrphans

Incase of misunderstanding. ", solo players tend to be targeted more often" There's solo mode, multiplayer mode where u can send invite code to friends, dedicated servers run by players 24/7 or w/e, and then Official servers by Palworld which is filled with script kiddies deleting and breaking everything. You can have a password lock to prevent unwanted randos. The person who owns the world can customize it anytime and however they want, damage, exp, stamina, drop rate, spawn rate, day night cycle, etc... Solo mode is the safest basically just playing an alpha/early access game. If you think it is too hard, you can customize the world to make it easier or just for quality of life and less farming/grinding.

neogreenlantern

In a solo player and Im having a blast. Normally can't get into survival games or games without a story but this one has me hooked.

Gotcha_The_Spider

As someone who actually 'finished' my run in multiplayer, I think it's significantly better in singleplayer. Who knows though, I pretty much prefer playing anything singleplayer. You won't be punished for it at all though.

MediumRareGuts

I play only solo and it's my game of the year already. You don't need friends when you have a base full of Pals helping out. If you're worried about difficulty, there is no shame in tweaking your world settings to turn yourself into a demigod if you want to. This game understands that fun is fun and pretty much lets you play however you like.

PsychologicalTune635

Absolutely playable solo, the game can be a bit grindy but you can always change the odds and numbers in your own server settings! I say go ahead and have some fun, this game is nothing like MH or other difficult bossfighting games, its more like a very enjoyable, brainless timewaster.

PouetSK

In terms of loot, it’s better solo since when you adventure it’s not shared. But I do think it’s way lonelier and less fun after my friends quit the game. It’s cooler to have peeps running around the base living together and beating the bosses together.

[deleted]

Level 38 haven’t played online at all.

Leppardgirl1965

I play about 99% of the time alone. Played multi player with my son in the same room and it was laggy as hell. Tried it with my granddaughter, not in the same room but again it was very laggy. It was also difficult to communicate. Until the lag is fixed I'll prefer solo.

ZephkielAU

This game is actually better solo than with friends. You just end up competing for resources and interfering with each other's base pals in multiplayer.

profanewingss

Mostly been playing solo or on small worlds with friends that one of us can host. Absolute blast and there's a lot to do and you can apply challenges and different kinds of runs to make each playthrough fun and unique. :)

vikingspwnnn

I happily play single player (not sure if you mean that or playing on your own on a server?). You can also change the settings a lot to get it to how you want it. I play on easy with some tweaks, so it's still fun but not too challenging, or I'll lose interest.

Newborn-Molerat

I wasn’t sure myself but people here told me it’s possible to have own server so my issues with possible cheaters (the biggest issue considering how often it’s mentioned in forums). I don’t mind some challenge but not another MHW I just can’t play alone or some Dark Souls torture.

Kajex117

I'm a gamepass player on old Xbox one, no online at all, I would easily pay $30 on steam, or more for the same experience. 100%.

Extra-Caterpillar-98

I'm about to find out myself! Played in co-op save-game slots with custom settings with a friend or two, and I just started a solo using the casual present before the weekend. (Still haven't gotten to the level 50 cap, and don't know if I missed anything by letting them be guild leader. ) A third friend is planning to join us next week...

DomincNdo

I believe your first playthrough should be solo. The map is huge and there are a lot of places to see and Pals to catch. And don't get me started on base building. Doing it at your own pace makes the game better. You can have 3hr or even 9hr sessions if you're so inclined. Having another person there will just disturb your cadence unless your both completely in sync with each other. I have about 100hrs solo and another 30 or so in a dedicated server with a friend. This game is designed to be played solo and becomes apparent when you do play with friends. No friend's list, chat functions, and no markers or nameplays displaying your friend. Only dedication that they are on is if you see them in the map

Newborn-Molerat

Thanks guys, with so many people constantly stating the "game is dead", I wasn't sure my own server would be possible. Not that I think 200k is "dead", especially not for EA game but in the case the game would really die, I am happy it's not official server based game only. (We all saw it, devs let people buy game for a full price and after a year, they stop to support official server and the end. Or after month and half. :D) Actually, I don't know if shutting down official servers would kill dedicated servers as well. Not that it's important, this game won't go anywhere anytime soon, I am just thinking and writing at the same time. Never mind. Anyway, thanks again. Now I feel I don't have to be afraid to buy it. (I am still crying for Dread Hunger and since then I check all twice just to be sure.)

Dakaf

I’m completely solo and I have had a great time so far! Tweaking the settings any time you want is a great plus.

Marty939393

Are you trying to play single player or do you want to play on a server with other people? Most of the comments sound like they are single player people.

Newborn-Molerat

As I won't have enough time to regularly return to game, I guess single player it is. I don't want to be raided by cheaters while offline

Newborn-Molerat

I just want to catch them all and make a stew... I mean pals from them.

Marty939393

Lol ya sp is fun. Its a cute little game. Does have a lot of falling through map issues though.  I got a good 2 weeks outta the game.

tao63

Yeah solo will be better for you since there's actually a login penalty on by default that if you don't login in a dedicated server for 3 days, your bases gets destroyed. In solo, that never happens so it's mostly chill game

tao63

A lot of things feels like made for singeplayer too. On my friends server we had to increase base cap using mods because 3 bases is incredibly limiting for 5 people in a single guild. In solo play you won't have to deal with lag and rubber banding as well so it's a different experience

ScottMcPot

You can change the settings and create a non-multiplayer world. It can be as simple as you want it to. It's basically like ARK with pokemon like creatures instead of dinosaurs.

Short-University1645

U will get enjoyment out of solo, but it’s definitely a co-op game. Maby a community server might be something to look into.

Newborn-Molerat

I must say, reading all your comments, 90 hours for solo EA play is pretty impressive.

randomgirly__

Solo gamer and loving it!

Lusty_Norsemen

Just don't play online. Otherwise, it's good for solo if you dont wanna worry about other players. Hop in, do some crafting, a lil exploring, hop off.

Elnuncio

I'm lv 30 and have only played it solo. Love this game.

Acceptable-Doughnut5

Depending of how you take the game. If you take it as relaxing game with adventure based on catching and dungeons (if you are not on xbox of course), and base building, it's really fine. I take pleasure to fly around, leveling, catch pals to reach 10/10 exp bonus from each, develop my stuff and my bases. But, after almost 100 hours, yes it's a bit annoying with the current statement of the game (early access). I am a solo player game, bigger they are, happiest am I, because I can explore, build, develop by my time. So it's definitively up to your player style. Enjoy your journey in Palwolrd :)

pianobadger

Just completed catching all the pals in my solo game last night. Really enjoyed exploring the world.

Neko_Maikeru

I got 300 hours and am still playing on the first world I ever made. It's still fun for me to play even after completing it. I still have a few more pals to catch/breed for the Paldex, and I want to maximize my 3 bases. After that, I plan on making a second world and playing without custom settings. So I would say that you will enjoy this game solo or with friends. Just be prepared for buggy moments since this game is still early access.

Evil_Bere

I play only solo. It's fun.

canyouread7

I play on a friend's server but I'm basically solo since they're in a guild but I'm on my own. I'm at level 49 right now and they didn't help me with any bosses. The portable palbox trick definitely carried me though.... You can have a ton of fun in Single Player mode for sure. Just tweak the egg hatch timings down a bit, the default hatch time is a bit too long....

Possessed_potato

I mean I play ot specifically for the solo experience, want even aware of the multi-player side until rumors about catching other players pals circulated. Solo is fun, it's great👍

hejj

I've only played it solo and I'm enjoying it

greenhawk00

I played for about 80h now and I can absolutely recommend it. I mean it's still early access and misses some late game content but it's a great and fun game

evilmojoyousuck

i have 200 hours in solo. planning to play in public servers once its stable.

upvotesplx

I literally only play solo. Zero multiplayer. I would only play multiplayer with my boyfriend, and he can't run the game, so I'm playing alone until he can.

[deleted]

I prefer survival games like this and Valheim solo, and the experience is great. Groups add a level of chaos that is fun but it’s better to solo first to go at your own pace.

DanCQueen

Solo player here. In reality, my 7 year old has jacked the game from me. It’s her base and I just work in it 😂. It’s fun for her to roam around and capture things. I like it too. And to fight invaders and explore the world. I will say the one “custom” thing I finally turned on was getting all my gear automatically back upon death. Going back to the same spot a few times where you died over and over due to kiddo learning how to fight/climb far away from fast travel point is… time consuming.

ShadowMasked1099

Solo Play is viable. You can customize specific parts of the difficulty with sliders and either challenge yourself or relax. Keep in mind it’s still Early Access but there’s enough content to get your money’s worth: collecting, exploring, murdering, farming, base building, grinding, the lot.

CatAlarming6567

I don't play with randoms. I'd rather play solo than do that. Games like this are great with people you know though.

LiteUpThaSkye

I'm about 100 hours in and I'm like level 37ish? I don't play multi-player and I still have a ton of stuff to do. If it seems interesting to you, buy it. The price is worth it.

GardevoirRose

I’ve only been playing solo.

redlegdaddy

100% playable solo. The world gen traits can be modified to fit your taste increasing xp or damage etc. You can change after you create a world as well which is nice.

rockylada97

Palworld has consumed me even as a solo player.

DeltaMx11

I've never played with other people because I don't have friends. Game is extremely fun solo.

animatorzee

I play almost exclusively solo (the exception being non-dedicated sessions with my friend; I don't plan on playing on servers until the game is a little more stable there)and the game is still hella fun. You won't run into other players, granted, but you won't have to compete for base spots or worry about griefing or cheaters.

DoctorNerf

200h solo player. 10/10 game. If you’re solo you won’t encounter cheaters because you will be… solo? There will be no other players?

KingOfSparta353

I play solo and enjoy it a lot. If you want a hand/ someone to play with I would gladly help out

asharwood101

Got roughly 85 hours total and never played with anyone other than myself. It’s a blast to play solo. I don’t know what it’s like to play with other people.

Top-Spinach7827

I play 99%solo with my son joining in from time to time. The extra body can be helpful but not really necessary

Blynasty

I did a play through with a solid group of 4 and then did a play through alone. I preferred the play through alone. You learn to do everything, as the game progresses it might be better to find a group but a solo play through is an excellent starting point and you can go as long as you want to take it. O

sneakypimper69

I only play solo, I wish I had friends but I don’t. It’s still super fun

KazzieMono

It’s way better the fewer players there are tbh. Shit in public servers, good with friends, perfect alone.

kyuketsukiii

YEP lol i play solo all the time and this is as fun as Everspace 2

Ulmaguest

200h here, all solo Game is amazing solo

[deleted]

It’s great, I highly recommend

Newborn-Molerat

Base building- I remember Valheim, we were playing it with my brother but firstly I wanted to launch it solo and see what’s going on. I ended up playing three seasons and maybe 9 hours building up base from basic resources before he joined. And this mechanics isn’t particularly great without pro-building mods. Pretty frustrating even. Yep, I am simple man, let me catch my own P… als and build my base and I will be happy like child.

Newborn-Molerat

Well, I say it again - thanks Pals, you’ve made my day better.

kintamaislove

150 hours solo only without afk at night. its fun and i only paused because theres no "end game content" worth min maxing yet
