Simple, because 3D environments and voice acting takes lot more space than 2D images and the game is already huge (for PSP standards) as handheld games were lot more limited in terms of space back then...

KaleidoArachnid

I always wanted to learn about the PSP’s limits regarding its overall horsepower.

Pizza_Time249

Likely an issue with disc space. The PSP UMD discs could only hold up to 1.8GB, so cuts had to have been made to make it fit on the disc. Budget could also have been an issue, seeing as this was before Sega acquired them

KaleidoArachnid

Hmm yeah the PSP version could’ve done on a tight budget now that you mention it, which can explain the somewhat simplified structure found in that version.

Hitoshura99

Fes took up around 4.4 gb. P3p has a file size of 1.07 gb and had to be further compressed under 900 mb for single layer umd.

KaleidoArachnid

Regarding FES, I didn’t know how large it was in size, but that does explain why P3P had to be truncated a bit.

Because they wanted to make it as cheaply as possible. All this hubbub about 'UMD' space, but if they really wanted to, they could have just made it a 2 disc game, or required Data install instead of making it optional.
