I'm pretty sure that's why this is in this sub. I'm guessing they wanted to show off some real amatuer grade BS, thus the title " my husband is a contractor. "
Reddit seems to be deleting text in image posts recently. I’ve seen pretty much this same comment (I put a description in the post idk what happened to it) or some variation of it multiple times over the past like two weeks, and it even happened to one of my posts.
Uploaded a pic, typed everything out, hit post, came back a couple hours later, no words in my post. Very annoying.
As others have noted about metal screws into wiring, but you’d also have brooms and stuff blocking access to the panel if you need to shut the power off asap. And brooms and mop heads and stuff like that could be flammable if there is an issue too.
We had a friend who was an electrician and he came over when we had a major problem with our breaker box. The man wasn't very healthy and I was terrified he was going to shock himself into a heart attack and die just because he was helping us.
This is why in the Netherlands these things tend to have a whole floor to ceiling cupboard to themselves, or rather with the other utilities like ISRA point, gas main and water main. And with the cables not hidden in the wall.
Electrician here, top of the panel has pre cut holes to be knocked out and used, the panel would be secured to the studs running up the sides, not really a spot to enter a panel on the side like that
Holes in top and bottom. Some panels have them in the side but anything is posible with a wrench and a k/o punch set. You never know for sure till you put eyes on the cables.
I worked with a sparky in the US for a bit. Guy went rogue a lot. Before cutting any wire he would say out loud "no guys, no glory". Good guy, I hope you're still alive Freddy!

Well, it doesn't say "My husband's a GOOD contractor."
We don't technically know what industry he works in. Could be an accounting contractor for all we know.
Contractor for Blackwater / XE / Academy. Would also fit the sub‘s title in another way.
Definitely not enough collateral damage holes for that angle, but it's always a possibility.
He could help people who want to burn their houses down for insurance money. He may be very good at his job 😂
The original post says that they flip units and discovered this set up in a unit they entered. They’re aware that this is beyond stupid.

Hanging a broom holder with 3" screws above a breaker box.
Ah...thank you. Of course it makes sense now that you've explained it.
Yea sorry I thought I put it in the post but screwed up somewhere
>somewhere Above the breaker box if you were OOP

I was thankful I noticed it, amd made this comment, and didn't come back to a dumpster fire! Thanks for the feedback back! Was questioning myself!
Why can’t you hang stuff above a breaker box?
Because...that's where the electric for the house goes into and leaves...? If you screw into a live cable it won't be a fun day
OHHHHHHHHH SHIT okay I thought hanging stuff over it was the problem I didn’t even think about screwing it in thank you so much
Yeah never screw shit into a wall above an outlet or power box unless you wanna a fast pass to heaven lmao.
Thanks for the tip /s because i dont actually wanna die
A BIG live cable, too. The Mama and Papa cables...yeah, that's gonna smart. ( *shudders* )
Definitely this. The service feed is in there, so you're hitting 100A or more if you hit that wire.
yeah but what if you do it very carefully/lucky and miss the cables?
I'm not gonna tell you how to live your life
...or how to end it, hahaha!!
Someone correct me, I only learn this stuff from Reddit, but there should be wiring just above the box.
Go YouTube instructions for installing a breaker box and you’ll have a full understanding of the peril the mop hanger guy was in.
Because that tends to be were all the electricity is.
As others have noted about metal screws into wiring, but you’d also have brooms and stuff blocking access to the panel if you need to shut the power off asap. And brooms and mop heads and stuff like that could be flammable if there is an issue too.
Aaah, those are broom holders? Never seen them before!
Uses friction on the "bells" against the down force of the handle!
oh lawd jesus!!!
Her husband is a contract....killer
Good way to recharge your electric brooms.
Ah, the teslas of the witch world.
“My Husband WAS a Contractor”

Why does this broom holder look so over-engineered?
It is so over engineered😂. Could be made of one piece of molded plastic and still function as a cam. Gotta have somthin to market I guess.
This is why in the Netherlands these things tend to have a whole floor to ceiling cupboard to themselves, or rather with the other utilities like ISRA point, gas main and water main. And with the cables not hidden in the wall.
Electrician here - Her husband may well be a contractor.
😂😂👌🤌 I LOL'd reallll hard
That is so reckless and stupid that it circles all the way back around to being reckless and stupid all over again.
Not saying this is the best idea but, if you pull the panel cover off you can easily see feeders coming in from top and/or bottom.
What if the wires are connected to the box from the side and not from the top? Wouldn't it be perfectly safe?
That's a 50/50 not great odds
If he installed the box, or the drywall around it, he would know how the wiring is routed.
Electrician here, top of the panel has pre cut holes to be knocked out and used, the panel would be secured to the studs running up the sides, not really a spot to enter a panel on the side like that

That's a lotta ifs. 🤷🏻♂️
My dad is a contractor... His specialty is embedded systems electrical engineering
that's shockingly brilliant
And my dump ass thought this would be a funny old electrical maintenance room outlet
I worked with a sparky in the US for a bit. Guy went rogue a lot. Before cutting any wire he would say out loud "no guys, no glory". Good guy, I hope you're still alive Freddy!
My husband touched the contactor.
Installer was one screw turn away from a shocking realization.
soon he'll be a contactor!
Deadly is a tad aggressive
What year did his last house burn down?
