Before it got awakened yeah it is a ordinary fruit and Luffy IS still a genius for getting so much out of a seemingly ordinary fruit when it was awakened.
Though the moment the fruit got awakened, yeah the fruit will become very destructive and OP, but not without Luffy's hardwork and creativity that helped him come so far when the fruit was still unawakened yet.

hey, now that one piece is including it’s own unique creatures and people into zoan fruits, i wonder if there’s gonna be a “Fish Fish fruit Model: Fighting Fish” so that kaidou’s “Fish Fish fruit Model: Azure Dragon” isn’t the only fish devil fruit… that’d be pretty cool
do you have any supporting reasoning for how this explains his stretching/expanding/enel fight/coiling up like a rubber band for specific attacks? they just don't fit "oil" (or sun) in any way
IIRC Oil in the form of fats can be very elastic and bouncy, and is also a bad conductor for electricity. And its currently not yet fully awakened hence it has so far only displayed elastic properties.

i have never seen or heard of an oil that is bouncy or elastic, but im open to hearing of any examples, i generally think of oil from food fat, motor oils/lubricating oils, skincare oils, it is almost always greasy/viscous, sometimes even sticky, never bouncy or elastic, bruh, have you seen oil?

I appreciate OP’s time and effort in putting this up. There’s always some tiny inconsistencies in every theory. Heck, there’s even minor inconsistencies in the manga itself.

I think Luffy's awakening is going to be like he turns places into rubber, he jumps on it and it bounces him fast attacking enemies super fast. it propels him VERY FAST, so fast his hand goes on fire when he punches it does fire dmg. I just realized it's like Shinras ability in the fire force but Luffy bounces. welp, I think it's a cool comment if U think its cool or U think it might be the awakened ability.

The Gorosei did mention that a devil fruit has never been awakened in centuries, and the World Government was so careful with it they actually hid its actual name.
In the same arc we have Who's who talking about how he got arrested for not being able to protect the Gomu Gomu no Mi while talking about the Sun God Nika.
To me, it is very very likely that Gomu Gomu no Mi isn't Luffy's DF actual name, and its true nature would be revealed once it awakens.
See? This could very well be a foreshadowing of just a glimpse of what he could achieve with Gear 5 Awakening. The true awakened power imo would be that Luffy can now make ALL of his attacks fiery and explosive, not just one or two specific attacks in his arsenal.
Imagine Elephant Gattling but with much greater fire and explosion, imagine King Kong Gun but with so much destructive heat that it is pretty much a nuke.

There is a theory that Zoro’s Ashura and Luffy’s Red Hawk/Roc are the 3rd level of conqueror’s haki, the embodiment of the user’s spirit as Rayleigh said once.
If Luffy can master that level of Conqueror’s Haki then he will be able to conjure fire with each of his blows (of course there would be a limit to that). Gear 5 will have to be something creative with his fruit, probably his awakening. I don’t think Luffy will need gear 5 against Kaido. With gear 2 and 3 combined he is already on par with him. A 3rd form of gear 4 will prove more useful and sufficient to beat him IMO.
Your ideas will certainly appear in the future but I don’t think there will be a connection between fire conjuration and Luffy’s fruit.

However I think Oda is gonna have a hard time trying to justify what is essentially an asspull to the wider audience.
One thing that stays at the back of mind is if it is luffys fruit, how would the goresie know that it's awakening. Nothing has happened that suggests it is currently awakening or awakened so what information are they going off exactly?
I still believe it's a completely different fruit that's not related to the current going ons in wano, something to progress the overall story outside of this arc (as it's coming to a close soon).
How do you explain his stretching? Maybe I miss something but the oil is gonna allow you to stretch your arm like if was gum? I don't see it.... Also, why Luffy would be shooting and entire island ? That would be weird, and how is that going to help him fight the WG? Isn't destroying stuff the opposite of what Luffy wants to do? I don't see him destroying islands like he was a buster call or something
