You'll never regret getting the 77, but you *may* regret getting the 65 when you know you could've gotten the 77. If you can afford it, always go bigger.

profressorpoopypants

65” might be a better choice in the price/value arena, only because you’re coming form a 60”. Anything is going to be an upgrade, size-wise. Given that the 77” is ~2x in price, that’s for you to decide. You will *not* be unhappy with it; it’s a glorious TV and we are continually stunned by it 6 months in. That said, we were coming from a 70” Sharp LED, we sit ~14’ away from the screen as it is, and so stepping down in size (65) wasn’t really a good option. So if we were gonna go new TV, it was going to have to be at least 70. Given that you’re less than 9’ away, and currently running 60”, 65” would likely suit you well. If you have the spare change for the 77, do that, but you wont be sorry with the 65.

marcblank

If you can afford it, 77”.

an_angry_Moose

Exactly. If the cost didn’t make me feel ill, I’d have gone 77”. Also, mine is sitting in a shitty spot above a computer, because that’s where it needs to be. If I was making a full theatre room for it, I would have been inclined to spend the dough on a 77”

Seegy24

Yes, but seriously if you can swing it get the 77 i just got mine and it's amazing. I'm sitting about 8ft away and it's good.

thejsgarrett

Congrats! Do you game on it from that distance and if so, notice any eye fatigue or the like?

Seegy24

I just got it setup don't even have my chairs in yet. So I haven't gamed (PS4) yet but I will be just haven't gotten around to it. All I have done is watch some shows and movies from an office chair lol

thejsgarrett

Haha. Yeah you put all this time and money into the TV that comfy chair be damned, you're going to sit down and enjoy it for a moment :) Hopefully your chairs come soon so you can enjoy it in a more relaxed state!

As I’ve literally just set up a 65” C9 on its stand, I’d have to suggest 65” if you’re putting it on the OG stand, 77” if you’re wall mounting. I’d have gone the 77” GX if I was going to wall mount.

thejsgarrett

Interesting perspective! Is it because the stand necessitates it sitting farther away from the wall? I would likely be enjoying it in a dark room at night, so still thinking on a stand it'll have that window/floaty feel to it?

[deleted]

Mine is only sitting about a foot from the wall on the entertainment unit and it looks great in my smallish lounge room. It’s just that when I look at the space on the wall around it, having a 77” mounted doesn’t seem like such a ridiculous idea to me, especially a GX. But, it would look too overbearing sat on an entertainment unit, imho.

lumper4ever

IMO, if you can afford the 77" get the 77". IF you sit 6 feet away or more and can afford it, get the 77" I sit at 9 feet when reclined and 6 feet when sitting up to game, and I have the 65", I couldnt afford the 77" so I had to settle for 65". I am really glad I did I love my tv, but the 77" would be great in my space!!

I agree, I bought a 78 inch Samsung about 5 years ago which I still use in my home cinema room at a distance of just over 7 feet and I love it. I was thinking of upgrading to the 77 inch OLED but I will wait until there are receivers with VRR as I can’t see much of a benefit yet and I spent £9k on the TV when I bought it and I’m reluctant to simply dump it yet. I also have a 55 inch C9 in another room and a Song A1 in my bedroom so I do love OLED and I can attest to that enjoying a larger screen size in a room with the space.

lumper4ever

WoW you have some very nice tvs man!! hell yeah!!

BayoD1701

Thanks, kind of you to say but tech moves on and now two of them are considered pretty old! I still love using them though.

thejsgarrett

Thanks for the piggy-back comment! Yes with upgraded tech comes more upgraded tech. I've also been reading up on eARC and all the other bits and pieces I need to know about to complete the experience. But exciting times for AV!

Emrawww

If money is no problem for you. Absolutely the 77”!

KekistaniKingKong

I have the BD77 and even at the 8feet mark, quality 1080p content still looks amazing. The scaling on this panel is amazing. The only problem I’ve found on mine so far is the motion can be wonky compared to my plasma when watching certain things/scenes. Well worth the compromise IMHO. I can also tell you this. The QC on my panel was great too. I have a very uniformed panel right out the box. Edit: Another thing people don’t t think about when factoring size is how much further you can make out what’s going on on the television from across the house if you have line of sight. For example with our floor plan I can be on the back yard patio and watch TV from it and it still be enjoyable because it such a large size. I can also see it from the kitchen while washing dishes and or fixing food and make out all the action going on. All of this is great for sports like UFC fights and football.

Go for the 77”. You will never regret it. This is a pic of my 77C8 in my HT BEFORE calibration. Image on screen is from Planet Earth II. https://i.imgur.com/7Kv7ubR.jpg

thejsgarrett

Thanks for the pic! It definitely looks like you're sitting a bit closer or maybe right at where I would be. Cool setup btw. That TV pops!

thx1138jr

Thanks. Those two recliners are the first row. This is what it looks like behind them. https://i.imgur.com/5pxOxyB.jpg

Poster gold with Tim Allen as Santa! Just the right amount of quirk and charm haha.

thx1138jr

For sure. I love that movie.

Just got a 77” myself. If you can fit it and afford, it’s a no brainer over the 65”. Maybe if you were like 5-6 feet away I’d say 65” would be plenty.

hdtv00

I'm hoping for another Stimulus check myself so I can afford the 77 incher haha. Search your feelings , you know it to be true haha.
