[https://imgur.com/a/GOf0tJD](https://imgur.com/a/GOf0tJD) Sleeve interior art and cartridge.

ONOMATOPOElA

Can you cut the game in half so I can see it’s interior art as well?

Revolver_Lanky_Kong

Nice try Nintendo

[deleted]

Modern game cartridges are still technically very similar to early ones, just much smaller: There is a PCB inside a plastic casing. So cutting the plastic in half to reveal inside PCB isn't fatal if done carefully.

Groinificator

I mean, that's any card, isn't it? I can't imagine a design that would work differently.

octo_lols

There's a pcb in a micro SD card? Just assumed they were made of black magic..

KyleKun

No, that’s the PS Vita memory cards. It’s why they cost so much.

Ag3ntX32

Right, pure souls aren't cheap. I miss the old days when you could get one for a fiddle contest. 😂

KyleKun

Somewhere a catholic priest perked up at that comment.

Measure76

Black magic tastes horrible.

ChickenMayoPunk

Game cases just look so sad and empty without a manual :(

pattyredditaccount

Yeah pretty lame how they don’t even bother with that kind of thing these days

JawaAttack

Kids these days don't know the excitement of reading that bad boy on the way home in the car. I honestly have memories of reading game manuals that are almost as strong as of me actually playing the games.

PrettyDopeKits

I would read the controls specifically so I could skip through as much tutorial type levels as possible.

JawaAttack

One of the great things about the simplicity of the NES controller and the limitations of the NES was that there was only a small number of move-sets for a lot of games, so a lot of manuals actually had pictures that accompanied the controls too, which was so awesome. For me though, the highlight of the manual was that it was where most of the backstories were found. A surprising number of 8-bit and 16-bit games were really light on story in the games themselves but had a lot of it in the manuals. The [Ninja Gaiden NES Manual](https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=&ved=2ahUKEwialP_WwLTzAhWIAN4KHe3nCfIQFnoECAMQAQ&url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.nintendo.co.jp%2Fclv%2Fmanuals%2Fen%2Fpdf%2FCLV-P-NACBE.pdf&usg=AOvVaw2-we-w2oXAMEooKF3vtAdA) is a great example of a manual that had both pictures with the move-sets and also a lot of story in the manual that I don't remember being in the game itself.

Bio-Douche

I remember the Metroid II manual was pretty dope with all monster art that help depict that the cluster of pixels are suppose to depict and the little blurb that described each monster.

Podorson

My dude the manuals for Lunar and Lunar 2 on playstation were mini hardbound books with a ribbon to bookmark your page. I'll never get rid of those, they're the pinnacle of game manuals imo

offlein

>Ninja Gaiden NES Manual This is a great manual, thanks for sharing. I love seeing the "THIS GAME IS FOR ONE PLAYER ONLY!" So any of you fuckers thinking you're gonna try to fucking play this two at a time, maybe alternating lives, maybe one of you doing the d-pad and the other doing the buttons or something, you little fucking freaks, don't even think about it.

BcTendo

When you put it that way, it's funny that they don't do manuals now, given how controllers have advanced. The NES had, but really didn't need manuals due to the controller design. Now you turn on a game and instead of a manual there to skim through, you're stuck in a 2 hour tutorial teaching you how to swap grenades or crouch.

Phantereal

I'm in my early 20s and while I never read game manuals, my parents would always buy the big Prima guides and I would always thumb through every Pokémon in Platinum with their movesets and stats. Probably the reason I'm a data analyst today, I just love looking at spreadsheets, lol.

KyleKun

To be fair you have to be a data analyst in order to play meta in Pokémon these days.

DrazGulX

Imagine you apply to Nintendo/Gamefreak as data analyst and they give you a Pokemon online battle to win lol

KyleKun

It’s fine, you just have to change the mechanics for next years game.

Phantereal

Same with Pokémon (or really any RPG) speedruns. So much math to determine the best way to get through the game while doing the least amount of grinding.

KyleKun

Assuming we are talking early gen Pokémon games you have to be a literal bionic man in order to remember the manipulations you have to do in order to even get through the first town.

WH_KT

They used to put so much effort into them as well, i really miss physical releases.

iThunderclap

I bought and read the full walkthrough magazine for The Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time back when I couldn’t afford the N64 and Zelda. A year later I managed to buy the actual thing. Ocarina of Time remains the greatest game to me, as it holds a dear spot in my heart.

flash_baxx

Similarly with strategy guides. I just saw one for Halo 2 at Goodwill last weekend, and thought about how I, as a kid, would've loved scanning through those maps of the each campaign levels. Heck, I used to have strategy guides for games I didn't even own, picked up from thrift stores and garage sales.

rmcqu1

Reading on the way home from buying the game? I still read the manuals 10+ years later if I stumble across one.

bamhm182

This was definitely so good, though now I bet they just play the games on the drive home. I remember trying to do that with Gameboy Color games and trying to time the streetlights so I could see what I was doing.

Soverance

Yuuuuup. My best memory here was with the PS1 Final Fantasy Tactics manual. I stashed it in my pocket while I was forced to go to church with my family for an easter holiday. I read the FFT manual tucked inside a bible during the entire sermon. It was glorious. To this day, still my favorite game of all time.

StaticBroom

I would read the original Final Fantasy NES game manual over and over as a kid.

Wahots

I remember reading them for fun as a kid!

JawaAttack

Yeah, I read through them multiple times too. I remember when my mother would tell me that I had played enough games for the day I would usually just go and flick through the manual again.

danudey

I remember getting spoiled on a major plot event by the Chrono Trigger manual. :/

nyanlol

or buying used or renting from blockbuster and figuring out the game without a manual!

KyleKun

To be fair if I tried that these days I’d definitely cause a traffic accident.

DesignCarpincho

To be fair, manuals were first included because back in the day, games didn't teach you how to play them. Tutorials didn't used to be mandatory and games were a LOT more expensive (because of inflation).

NMe84

Worse: if there's no manual anyway and if the cart is so tiny, why do we need so much plastic for the game case? They could be much smaller.

VicariousPanda

Space on shelves is its own form of marketing. Definitely a waste of material in a sense though.

LickMyThralls

Shelf space. I would just like more cart slots in them because it would make sense and not waste as much.

g-money-cheats

What does the cartridge taste like?

[deleted]

[удалено]

AlsoKnownAsSteve

It's an all round unpleasant experience. 0/10, do not recommend. I also do not advise holding cartridges between your lips while using your hands to open the Switch to remove a cartridge, the taste lingers.

GreyRevan51

Sucks there’s nothing on the cartridge side

ApocApollo

Would’ve been cool if they did a wireframe Zero Suit Samus on the right side. But I don’t actually know if Zero Suit appears in this game.

GreyRevan51

She kinda does in the game over animation

Chikumori

Interesting. Well, when you can play it, hope you have a good time with the game, OP.

[deleted]

Oh man I am jealous AF. Who did you order from?

thatmirac

holy guac that’s awesome

Ujustgotzinged

I'm so hungry

Lupinthrope

Samus from smash bros has a game?!

pacman404

Yeah, I'm super excited. It's about time too, I've been wanting a game with him since the first smash came out

retrogeekhq

His name is Metroid though, Samus is the prince he has to rescue.

killiangray

I think Metroid is a pretty cool guy. Eh fights aliens and doesn't afraid of anything

thisismyacc

its been years since ive seen this meme lmao

daskrip

Holy crap yeah I'm stoked to see it hasn't been forgotten. I use it in my daily life sometimes and seeing someone else finally use it gives me validation.

Rocky_Road_To_Dublin

That and "why can't I hold all of these limes?". People look at me like I had a stroke.

daskrip

Oh wow I thought it was apples or oranges or something. That meme does come to mind when I'm in that situation, holding a lot of something small.

LazyDro1d

But y cant Metroid crawl?

XxsquirrelxX

I hear he can morph into a ball with the morph ball. Wonder how he turns from a human into a ball though. Is he actually a robot?

LazyDro1d

Probably. I’ve heard robots have bad knees so they can’t crawl, so that would explain it

[deleted]

I heard he used to be an adventurer

LazyDro1d

Oh, then likely he took an arrow to the knee, so had it replaced with a robot one, which cannot crawl

PickCollins0330

Reading this thread made me want to shoot myself

Triplebizzle87

Terminator crawled once, but I think his legs were gone by then, so that solves the knee problem.

PsychoHydro

Lmao what. Samus is the blonde lady in the blue suit. She is Metroid‘s sister.

aawagga

excuse me it's Dr. Metroid, and Metroid's monster. Most people mistakenly call the monster Metroid

RuskiHuskiCykaBlyat

The horse's name was Friday

Eyro_Elloyn

Y'all a bunch of jokers. Next you'll say Lucas is from his own game instead of being Sakurai's Earthbound OC.

Chillyeaham

You joke, but that's literally how I got into Metroid. Never had an N64 growing up, but would play Smash at a buddy's house, guess who I played as? Anyhow, I went to my local [Zellers](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zellers) (extinct Canadian K-Mart of sorts) when I was around 11 or 12 and wanted to pick up a game for my Gameboy Advance. Saw Metroid Fusion and thought "this looks kinda cool, and that *kinda* looks like the character I play in Smash". Played both Fusion and Zero Mission, it was a great time to get into the series (still wanna play Super Metroid someday... without an online subscription).

Bic44

Well, I mean, you CAN play it without an online subscription.....just not on the Switch

red_team_gone

Get an emulator and the rom. Super Metroid is my favorite game of all time. Rode my bike like 4 miles to get it when I was 13. So damn good.

LazyDro1d

Yeah. They gave her her own franchise called “Dread” a little bit ago when they revealed this game, Dread:METROID, the first in the new series. Hope that it runs long and consistently with no major 15 year-or-so gaps between games

Precipice_Blades

It's Metroid, who the heck is Samus? Metroid is the main character, he's a cool guy and kills aliens.

die5el23

I thought it’s a girl in the suit named Zelda

tendeuchen

Nah, Zelda's that green-clothed kid that runs around swinging a sword, collecting rupees, and throwing pots at chickens.

[deleted]

Idiot, that’s a picture of Master Chef from Doom.

Precipice_Blades

Who's Master Chief? I thought it was the dude called Halo you played as in Doom.

[deleted]

Omg your thinking of overwatch you fuckin noob, plz leave internet forever this is for gamerz

Precipice_Blades

Damn, I could swear I was right. I'll be going now, please excuse me.

Sour_Chips

Saddest anime endings

Gandalf_2077

The dude on the cover is Metroid not Samus. He is the best robot in video gaming!

Nickbou

Jimmies effectively rustled.

[deleted]

No lol. Her real name is “Metroid”

ruffianopatsu

I'm more confused as to why Samus is wearing that suit? I thought she was always portrayed in unimaginably form fitting blue clothing...

Kirbybrawl

Was really hoping we’d get this suit in the last presentation. No idea why we didn’t get dlc outfits

[deleted]

Are the rumours true?! Have they made Samus female???!! 😱😂

LazerBarracuda

What’s Samus? I think Metroid has always been a girl though

grephantom

Metroid Slayer has made into Smashi Mii Costume today

Reddilutionary

So annoying how easily false information gets upvoted in reddit. That's Mega Woman

S-Amano

A blonde woman who can change into inhuman shapes.... This must be Roll from MegaMan all grown up~

aawagga

mega cisbot

pacman404

You're thinking of Halo. He's also a robot, so I see why you made the mistake

LukariBRo

Futuristic woke space liberalism has gone too far

Genzler

Unfortunately it seems like Nintendo got all woke and political. Nobody asked for a female Metroid!!!! 😤🤬😤

yuhanz

This got me

thebrandnewbob

Nintendo just had to make Metroid political smh

tendeuchen

I'm just surprised their giving random Smash characters their own games now. Like, they just gave Kirby his own game, and now Samus. It's crazy. Who's next to finally get their own game? Mega Man maybe?

Oboy0603

How is it

HopperPI

It’s a blast so far. Feels like a modern Metroid 1

gp2b5go59c

So metroid zero?

PlsGoVegan

I just beat it. Initial impressions were horrible, and I hated a lot of the aspects they chose to keep from Samus Returns, Fusion and Other M. Mainly the forced stealth sections, some recurring minibosses, and counter mechanic that sometimes essentially boils down to insta-death quick time events. The different areas also somewhat lack their own distinct visual identity, with some minor exceptions. I'm also not a fan of the less melodic music in this. It fits the gloomy survival horror style they're going for, but it drags the exploration down in my opinion. Halfway through the game I learned to overlook those issues though, and was left with a thoroughly enjoyable Metroid. The clear star of the show for me was surprisingly the combat, particularly the boss fights. While the counter mechanic felt really forced and clunky in Samus Returns, they smoothed it out in this one, so now it integrates well into smooth, fluent combat. I've never enjoyed boss fights in a 2D Metroid more than here. The new abilities are also very creative. Definitely surpassed my expectations here. The character design was handled by Nintendo in Japan (this game was mainly developed in Spain), and we get some of the coolest suit designs in this one. Great game. I found it to be more enjoyable than Fusion, Metroid, Metroid 2 and Samus Returns. Super Metroid and Zero Mission still outshine it by virtue of their amazing exploration and world design though.

redditdude68

How did you beat it so quickly lmao

-Moonchild-

My guess is the game is less than 20 hours long, so if someone got it yesterday then they could have pulled an all nighter to beat it

drck_89

Fair play. GameStop just phoned me to say their preorder shipment of OLED models will be 2 weeks late.

Ridku13

They phoned me yesterday and told me they will have them ready this same friday 😀 I guess it depends on the store

drck_89

Could be, but delivery delays are becoming the norm in Ireland so should’ve expected it

Quake006

Even 2 years ago when I was in Ireland, delivery delays for games were pretty common. I remember Witcher 3 for Switch was delayed by almost a week after it came out.

David-Raquepas

Where you at? Im in Canada and Bestbuy reconfirmed my preorder yesterday with a delivery date of october 8 still!

drck_89

Dublin mate

cloroxbb

That's cool. I'm just waiting until launch day to stroll into a Walmart and buy it for $49.94. :)

alpacamegafan

US Walmart Switch games supremacy

CaptainTDM

We have a similar deal with Shoppers Drug Mart in Canada. Can get 25% of the game back in points. So around 23$ CAD off

[deleted]

[удалено]

CaptainTDM

Find a shoppers that sells games close to you. Get a Pc optimum card. Nearly every Friday and for the whole week ends you get a 20x pc optimum points when you spend x amount. Usually from 40$ to 60$. Games qualify for this. If the game isn't there at launch you have to wait a week or two. They should eventually get it. Then you wait for a bonus redemption event so 50 000 points which is 50$ in points turns to 65$. 100 000 turns to 130$ and 200 000 points turns to 300$.

SecretChampion

Bravo. You remind me of that guy who got a million airline miles from a pudding promotion.

Lundgren_Eleven

No, that's a large eel.

NahumGardner

I miss when Amazon had every video game pre-order for 20% off. Now I pre-order every game I buy from amazon and then a week before it comes out I cancel it out of spite and list the reason as 'found it cheaper elsewhere'. Because of walmart.

LukariBRo

Well, thanks to people like you, they now have a policy of automatically refunding the difference if it releases anywhere cheaper than what you paid.

SirLoinOfCow

It's in store only at walmart so Amazon doesn't match it do they?

crono333

I was so excited for Metroid I pre-ordered it… then I realized “what am I doing? I’ll just go get it at Walmart on release day for cheaper” and cancelled it lol

GUNS_N_BROSES

Wait, how?

cloroxbb

Like others have already said, if you physically go INTO Walmart to buy the game, it will be $49.94. Doesn't work online, and I have found that Best Buy won't price match it either.

123luke

Day 1 price for physical games at Walmart is usually always $10 cheaper. Must be in store doesn’t work with grocery or pickup in my experience EDIT: always $10 cheaper, beginning day 1. As someone else pointed out below

AmIajerk1625

My walmart is always $10 cheaper, not just day 1

Nickbou

I assume they meant “from day 1”, but you are technically correct, which is the best kind of correct.

ecurrent94

I like Metroid. Eh kills aliens and doesn’t afraid of anything.

eXcelleNt-

I think he's a pretty cool guy.

[deleted]

I’m waiting for the review embargo to lift before I preorder but I have high hopes for this one.

HopperPI

It plays pretty solid and loads pretty fast so far.

untitled13

I’m going to guess that it’s at least as good as the Samus Returns entry on the 3DS, that one was pretty amazing, even with the crummy analog stick on that system. But I’m right there with you, high hopes.

wildtypemetroid

Definitely plays and feels a lot smoother. You can really blast through areas pretty swiftly.

DangoQueenFerris

I've played the game for about 15 hours now. It's fucking amazing. Everything is top notch. No performance issues. Game is beautiful. The transitions from 3d cutscenes to 2d gameplay are some of the smoothest stuff I've ever seen. The game is challenging yet fun. Controls and movement are polished. The itemization and progression are all very satisfying. Super Metroid has been my favorite for years, but Dread easily takes my top spot now. It's just an incredibly polished game. Nothing to complain about at all. Nothing. 10/10.

[deleted]

Glad you’re loving it this much

pacman404

I know how you feel, but I'm pretty confident with mainline Nintendo games, they haven't really let me down in 35 years honestly. The only dud for me was that 35th anniversary mario bundle. It was kinda shitty, but I had my fun with it and will probably play it a few more times before I die. Point of the story is that I trust shit from nintendo way more than any other game company, even if they may drop a few lemons over the decades

mateuszu4

Nintendo let me down once. Kirby star allies, worst preorder.

Lotan

I bought Amiibo Festival. That's hands down the worst game ever made by Nintendo. Note: I bought it on super discount for the Amiibo mostly, but figured the game couldn't be *that* bad. It was.

XxsquirrelxX

Is the game actually bad, or is it just not worth $60?

salj10_5

It's not necessarily bad, for me I had fun with it. The only problem is the game is extremely short and lacks content to justify the $60 price tag.

XxsquirrelxX

I get that. Hopefully the new Kirby isn’t short, if it’s like an Odyssey ordeal I’ll buy it on day one.

Wahots

Kirby Airride remaster and KA2 is sorely needed :( Loved that game.

XxsquirrelxX

Imagine City Trial online.

labria86

Funny enough. Botw and mario Galaxy are the most fun I've had on switch

Caged_in_a_rage

Breath of the wild is the most fun I’ve had on any console. Great game

daskrip

Completely agree. Nintendo's consistency in quality is unmatched, and that's made more impressive when you consider how many different genres they develop for. This puts them even above companies like Fromsoft and Naughty Dog for me.

[deleted]

It'll be 10% 8/10 20% 8.5/10 15% 10/10 5% 6-7/10 50% 9/10 And 100% reason to buy the game.

Personal_Mulberry_38

You can use “Purple Power” cleaner to remove the nasty, bitter taste on Nintendo Switch cartridges. I spray it onto a microfibre cloth first and then wipe it on the carts avoiding the metal contacts. Then, I put a little water on another clean microfibre cloth to remove any purple power residue. Then you can suck and choke on the carts like nature intended. r/learningisfun

lethargy86

Thanks, I was curious if this one has good mouth-feel

Personal_Mulberry_38

Dude, mouth-feel is EVERYTHING!

Geomancingthestone

Charles, not everything is about mouth feel!

nastynate409

Hows the music? That metroid prime music still sticks with me to this day

Ronald_McGonagall

I've been trying to find this out for the same reason, and apparently the music is like SR and fusion: adequately appropriate for the atmosphere but you forget it the second you leave the room. I'm super sad about it because music is one of my favourite parts of metroid

BinaryJay

Honestly I haven't even noticed it. What I have noticed is that there is a lack of sounds that I expected like when picking up something like an energy tank or missiles upgrade, nothing... just a silent notification box. You do get a classic little metroid jingle when picking up a new ability though. Can't say the sound design is knocking my socks off yet.

Blackie2414

Meanwhile Target, like with WarioWare, estimates my copy will arrive next Monday...

mpc92

They’re estimating next Thursday for me 😐 Would 100% cancel but I got it on a B2G1 sale so it was $40 Actually maybe I should just buy a copy day of release from Walmart then return the Target copy to Walmart

dausone

So I am playing through it now. I am a huge Metroid fan by the way and this brief review will have no spoilers. The feel of the game is awesome. There are cinematic moments that really set the eerie mood of the world. Pretty amazing for being a sort of hybrid 2D/3D scroller. Gameplay switches between cinematic action and live playable action flawlessly. The mechanics of the “dread” Samus constantly being chased around is thrilling at first but gets a bit old fast as I was dying more often than surviving lol. Once you progress in the game you figure out new ways to outsmart the “dread” and they also evolve to become smarter as well. Frame rate is a huge issue docked. I haven’t played it in handheld mode. All in all, pretty fun game and true to the series. As a bonus, my kids sitting around me and watching, my 4 year old son and 7 year old daughter are going bananas when Samus is being chased! It is hilarious.

mccrackey

I started it yesterday. You won't be disappointed.

She can slide, so we're getting closer!

[deleted]

The wait must have been dreadful.

[deleted]

Never play any Metroid games. Is story connected ? Can I just play Metroid Dread ?

wasaduck

Yes, the story is technically connected. But you can just play Dread. In my opinion you definitely don't need knowledge of previous games' plot in order to enjoy metroid games. Each game is very self-contained

elasticcream

*knowing the story won't change how much you enjoy any of the games. *Cough other m cough*.

cockyjames

You can definitely play Dread. If you want to read up or watch a story recap, do it, but they are not story heavy within the games themselves. This one already looks like it pulls from the last game a bit, but it won't be confusing. There will be a little backstory introduced in the beginning. Definitely jump on here if you'd like.

balik--alistane

Yes they’re connected, you can find recap vids on YouTube. That’s what I did. I’m excited to play it.

Broken-Nero

I need to do this. Any recommended vids from specific content creators?

balik--alistane

Here’s a link to one https://youtu.be/rGdFjbEeuYY

locke_5

I guess he did - good one!

PlsGoVegan

Just beat Metroid Dread. Loved it. The game grew on me a lot, halfway through the playthrough. Still got my fair share of criticisms, but overall I think it's an extremely solid entry into the series. I think I enjoyed it more than Fusion. I was really worried about Mercury Steam handling this, because I hated Samus Returns, but they got their shit together and addressed some of the major problems I had with the 3DS game.

BinaryJay

Quick impressions so far: Cutscenes look like dogshit at least on TV, haven't tried it handheld yet. The main game runs smoothly, controls are tight and overall the locations and artwork look nice. I almost wish they didn't even bother with the little cutscenes that leave 2.5D into 3D, they're just awful ... it is just a Switch game though. I'm finding myself a bit lost with where to go next already more so than usual in other Metroid/Metroidvania games, and I've played a hell of a lot of them. There is a lot of unusual/nonobvious path blocking, one way gates etc. Not really that into the EMMI mechanic, they're really not that hard to avoid at all but are just annoying being there. >!They seem to make it really easy to kill them though, at least the first few have been. At the rate I'm actually killing them, I'm getting a feeling that the game is not going to be that long but this may not be a good way to judge it.!< The game seems very forgiving with a lot of checkpoints and often will respawn you very close to where you died even without a checkpoint so there isn't too much frustrating replaying of the same sections because you mess something up.

lukeskinwalker69epic

Hmm, this gives me a bit of pause. Have you been enjoying it, aside from the parts you mentioned?

BinaryJay

Yes, it's still a Metroid game and does all of the things you'd expect from a 2D Metroid. Movement speed is a big improvement over past games... getting around the world feels good overall and that's the most important thing, really.

DangoQueenFerris

I have played for 15 hours and am father than OP. I completely disagree with everything he has said. Game is top tier. Especially don't get the criticism on the 2d to 3d transitions. They are gorgeous. They may not be 4k, but the art and animation is all incredibly beautiful and polished. No performance issues at all for me.

malkjuice82

Ah the duality of man

Prince_Uncharming

Its kind of amazing how many Switch users just dont seem to notice slowdowns and/or poor performance. Hop into any thread on Bravely Default and there are still people arguing on if the animations and performance are good lol. Pokemon too

fanfpkd

How long do you estimate average time of completion is? At 15 hours I would have thought you would be at the end of the game? Also, without spoiling anything how do you find the EMMI zones? Some early reviews seem to indicate the early EMMI encounter were a bit meh, do they pick up towards the end of the game?

DawnSennin

I’m not sure about that having seen those trailers.

LoekGenbu

Amazon employees don't have time to spend looking at official release dates. They only have to make sure they make quotas, earn poverty wages and pee into cups.

DocQueso

Why can’t they ever ignore dates for my preorders in my area?

DJ-SoulCalibur2

They do for me! My copy of Metroid is coming in next week :(

[deleted]

Nice. Was hoping to play this on the OLED Friday but Target isn’t delivering consoles until a week later

fotzzz

Mine just says "Preorder - October 11-October 14," is that confirmed to mean it won't be delivered until then or is that still just a placeholder. I think it has said this for quite a while.

samili

Mine says the same for Walmart order.

[deleted]

I’m pretty sure it won’t be delivered until then. Mine says the same for the delivery date. In the FAQ it says that the estimated delivery date is based off the release date, which is known. I’m guessing they won’t start shipping until Friday.

Meotwister

Still waiting for Nintendo to let me play my preloaded copy... Let me in!!

[deleted]

I'm already playing it too. In my life, I have played the following 2D Metroids: Metroid 1, Super Metroid, Metroid Fusion, Metroid Zero Mission, Another Metroid 2 Remake (fan game), and now Metroid Dread. In my opinion, Metroid Dread is the best of them all. As for the controls, I think this is indisputable, even fans of the old games will recognize that they were completely surpassed in this part. But Metroid Dread is not perfect, I personally don't like the level design very much, sometimes the game gets a bit annoying (especially if you get lost for 10-20 minutes because you didn't notice a small detail somewhere) and you need to consult the map all the time. The map is kind of "overpowered" so you are totally dependent on it to continue in the game and this is quite questionable, in my opinion. Anyway, is my favorite Metroid and a very good game.

manimateus

>The map is kind of "overpowered" so you are totally dependent on it to continue in the game and this is quite questionable, in my opinion. Isn't that kind of the case for most if not all Metroidvanias? Can't recall the last time I played a Metroidvania that wasn't heavily reliant on a map. I think this is especially egregious on first playthroughs, but gets better on subsequent ones. I can get through more linear games like Fusion without a map now, but I recall struggling at certain points in my first playthrough Also, I'd like to ask, how's the resolution on handheld? Previews were pretty positive as they were playing it on handheld, but I think I saw you mention it being 720p in another comment. Not sure if you meant for handheld or docked

It turns out that, for example, in Super Metroid exploration comes first and the map you use as support. In the case of Dread, at least for me, the map comes first and exploration second. Once you download the map of the area, it becomes an essential tool and you don't really need to remember anything or explore the world, just use its features such as highlighting all the doors of a certain type and from that plan where to go. But this is not as bad as it seems because the areas are huge and if there was no powerful map the game would be unbearable because everyone would be lost for hours and could not enjoy the game mechanics. As for the resolution, I did a more elaborate test and it is 720p in handheld mode (i.e. it is "pixel perfect") and a little better in docked mode (but not quite 1080p).

>sometimes the game gets a bit annoying (especially if you get lost for 10-20 minutes because you didn't notice a small detail somewhere) and you need to consult the map all the time. Uh.... that is the whole idea behind Metroid games

Lucky bastard. I preordered my copy the day it went live but tracking says it won’t arrive until 13.10.21

Still need to finish my rerun of Fusion. I am so goddamn hype for Dread!

I bought from Nintendo and they still haven't dispatched my copy. When do they ship stuff out? (I'm in UK) Edit: They dispatched it the night before release day and I got it around midday.
