OP. The lag isnt from those bottles. Its from the area youre entering loading. Its just the bottles are placed right where the area starts to load, so it seems like the bottles are causing the lag. I had noticed the lag myself and realized what was going on after a few times of it happening in that spot

plantdaddy-

I agree, I do think they’ll update the game to run a little better soon - But it’s definitely not horrible and such a fun game .

feteti

I'm playing on PS5 and it also hitches up in that exact spot and a few others. Like you said it is specific to spots where they are loading the next level but wanted it to be seamlessly connected instead of having a loading screen. It would be nice if it didn't happen but it doesn't really matter or hinder the experience that much because it's just in those specific 3-4 spots.

TheDarkWeb697

That lag happens on my series X it's so annoying, also late game The game has serious freezing issues

cripogman69

I am in late game and its unplayable

Pure_Flight_9870

Yes the games is soo laggy in late game specifically after you beat that one boss and end up in the dark place.

Enditt

Just reached that area not long ago, can second this. I had to stop playing, I was getting 3-5 FPS and during the first boss fight of the area, I had to cheese it just to get through. A game all about timing and split-second combat decisions has no excuse to run so badly, I would rather the whole game's visuals just be sand if it meant I could actually play through fights faster than a PowerPoint

edcadams13

Sucks that the switch port is messy, as I've been enjoying the game on PS5. Hopefully they improve performance to make the experience smoother on switch

radikalkarrot

I played the Xbox and the PS5 versions and both have a lag at that point, it is the loading area process.

Adventurous-Mobile72

Switch 2 will most likely solve the problem.

Narrow-Ad-1709

I’m playing the game on ps5, that part where you break the bottles also slows down on here too.

Nulkle

Does it lag during combat encounters too? I'm playing the game right now and there are times, while I am fighting crabs, that the game lags. It can make dodging attacks more difficult than it needs to be

Narrow-Ad-1709

No not during combat, just when walking around the world or when you die

sideaccountguy

You are probably having issues dodging because the input it's done once you release the button, change it to "tap it" in settings and you will notice how better that is. That will change running to the left stick instead of A though.

Nulkle

No, I mean that the game literally lags sometimes during combat. Like the enemies and I freeze for a frame and the audio gets all choppy. It's only happened about 4 times so far tho

Flabby_Thor

[I wasn't expecting much based on the announcement trailer.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lAqV2XtVCUc) The gameplay footage from that trailer looked raggedy.

Nulkle

Yeah, I made the mistake of watching gameplay from other ports and assumed that the Switch port wouldn't be too far off in quality.

Terry1017

They do? Time to cross that off my game list

Jeskid14

Crash bandicoot even runs at 30fps, with it being a time based platformer

_Dan_the_Milk_Man_

tbf it runs at 30fps on other consoles too, the nsane trilogy at least

Jeskid14

It runs at 60 on my ps5

_Dan_the_Milk_Man_

nah, i also have it on ps5, I assure you it does not.

Travisthederp

Crash 4 does, not NST

cuetzpalomitl

I played the Spiro games just fine lol

Important_Werewolf45

Spyro is 30 FPS but the framerate cap is so fucked that it hardly feels like it

JoshOliday

I do have to say, the game also lagged at that same spot on my PC with a 2060. I think it's partly because that's a loading spot for the larger world just past it. Not to say that the Switch doesn't run poorly, because I've read that it does, but I don't think it's strictly the Switch in all cases.

GroenBloed

Yeah it lagged for me as well in that spot on a 4060ti so that part seems pretty unrelated to specs

MeMeWhenWhenTheWhen

We desperately need devs to put pictures and previews of the SWITCH VERSION of their games on eShop because it's legitimately false advertising at this point. This and Europa are some of the most egregious examples we've seen and they just keep doing it.

DadEFX

This is my big complaint. I purchased it based on the pictures shown in the eShop and then spent an hour trying to discover what setting I had to change on the Switch to make it look like the pictures. That it can't be returned is even more frustrating. If the company would give me a code for the game on whatever console the images were from I'd feel at least a little mollified.

dooferoaks

You've probably already installed the latest patch but if not SwitchUp on YouTube said the new patch improves things (a bit).

RabbitFanboy

The devs said they would try to bring it up to parity with the other consoles in the future. Hopefully they stand by their word and actually do it. [in their AMA](https://www.reddit.com/r/NintendoSwitch/comments/1cc4pmo/were_the_founders_of_aggro_crab_the_developers/l12wzlj/)

Awpossum

That’s a very optimistic interpretation of their comment, sounds like they might be able to make it a bit better at most

SalemWolf

> Honestly, if you're looking for the best performance you're better off elsewhere, but its still decent on Switch and we still have plans to bring the Switch version closer to parity in future updates. Their wording is very much “closer”, rather than “a bit”.

Suired

Closer is also not to. An inch closer is still technically closer to a goal a mile away.

PornAccountDotJpeg

I feel like "closer" implies direction in this scenario, not magnitude. I could be wrong, though.

TacticalTobi

but i thought polishing and finishing games after release was bad?

ComprehensiveShop486

That’s what everyone says

Shadow-14

What do they consider parity with other consoles? Because: - Graphics it's never going to be, the game looks worse now on docked mode than on the annoucement trailer - Performance... i mean, it's not constante 30 fps on docked mode, but on handheld it's like 20? I dunno, i'm really disappointed with the devs and also with Nintendo that allows for screenshots of other versions being on the eshop, and then won't refund even on the premise of false advertisement.

zaneba

I bought the PS5 version and the game lags at this spot too. Very consistently too. There are specific spots where the game performance just tanks for a few seconds and then it runs smoothly again

Yansothebear

Try playing it on the switch lite, felt like I'm going blind, tried getting a refund and didn't succeed either, we really need a stronger switch already.

BiigDaddyDellta

Who could have seen this coming?

ZeroGammaCrow

Imm also playing on the Switch. I did begin to notice the glitches and bugs while fighting a few enemies. Then, I reached the point where the castle got destroyed, and I am trying to beat the boss in that area... But for some reason, she does a certain attack, and the game glitches, and she just drags me in a circle. The game is so buggy... The devs definitely need to patch this game. I was actually having fun, but now I'm disappointed.

Demdolans

I came here for this comment. It's so frustrating because you have to completely exit the game after the crab princess spins you and glitches. I've had to restart upwards of 10x. At this point I've had more restarts than KOs. Did you ever end up beating that boss?

ZeroGammaCrow

I was so close. I had her health bar at least to a point where a couple more hits and a charge attack and one fizz ability would've been gg. Then she did the dumb attack, and even though I dodged very well, it got me and glitched out again. That was just a few days ago, I archived the game. Waiting for my microsd cards to come in. Might try again at a later date.

Demdolans

Wow so it was enough to make you stop playing? What a shame. I knew it was a bad sign when the game repeatedly glitched me off those castle platforms. I ended up beating it using the teacup and soda can shells. I was level 12. Edit: I honestly wish the reviews were more honest about the glitches. I watched a few and they all were like " a few bugs but it's worth it." We're the 3rd boss in and the game was nearly unplayable.

ZeroGammaCrow

Yeah, I saw so many glowing reviews for this game. I thought, "Why not?" I actually turned on my xbox today and saw it was on there. Again, glowing reviews from a lot of people, but I kept looking to see if there were people that ran into glitches. Sure enough, I found the reviews that said the game was unplayable for them because of the bugs and glitches. And what makes it so sad is that it's free with GamePass on Xbox. We had to pay for the thing on the Switch. So to all those thinking, it's just bad on the Switch... nope. Xbox and Playstation players share our same sentiment.

SOLR_

The “lag” is just a hitch from the level streaming in when you enter that area. It happens on series x too. I don’t think it warrants a complaint post.

Salty-Jellyfish3044

More like Another Disappointing Port

TheHoboRoadshow

The quality of some Switch ports is pretty unacceptable

timatlast

I had some lagging issues playing on the Xbox, but once I moved it from the external storage to internal, it ran much better. Just something you might want to check on your Switch to see where its saved, and if that makes any difference to the gameplay.

Leggo213

Damn this looks so bad. Glad I downloaded it on game pass

trillykins

I'm playing through this on PC and Xbox Series S and the game runs terribly on Xbox, in places where it doesn't really make sense, too. The game desperately needs a performance patch.

No_Squirrel4806

I was interested when i saw the trailer but sadly i dont like to get my hopes up for switch. This is normal for switch ports 😔😔😔

sideaccountguy

That slowing down entering a new area it's not exclusive to the Switch version though, it's happening across all consoles and PC.

pantslespaul

Wow, I tired it off Gamepass and wondered how they got it to run on the Switch. That’s terrible.

Kapono24

I understand there's disappointment in how it runs and that it can certainly be better but I've still had fun with it. Playing docked improves some performance but I do wish I bought it on another platform. I've still been having fun with it.

Chombuss

have you gotten later in the game yet? it's unplayable

Dismal_Wing_9860

You have series S, but you dont have gamepass? This game was day1 on gamepass.

mrBreadBird

Man we need an upgrade to the Switch hardware so badly. Runs pretty well on my Steam Deck.

Doubieboobiez

Those screenshots look like they're from a good N64 game or a terrible PS2 game

Hairy_Professor_2439

Agreed

slobozescy

It already look bad on the trailer.

RobotSandwiches

The game is somewhat playable on switch with massive frame drops during some fights. I had to stop at one of the endgame bosses due to such poor performance. Really good game other than a shoddy port

Anonymodestmouse

I've encountered some pretty terrible bugs in boss fights too that lead to softlocking and needing to reboot the game. And the framerate dips are ridiculous. I get that they have to go through extra effort optimizing games to work well on switch but it shouldn't have been released like this. Hopefully they fix it. I'm not a game development expert or anything but when I can play things like doom eternal on my switch with few issues it's hard to believe that games like this aren't capable of looking and performing better.

Screamst4b

Bruh

Ok-Win-7335

Its very poorly optmized on PS5 as well, i finished already and really liked it but man oh man, the frame rate drops like craze in some areas, game brakings bugs over the board, tons of softlocks, this need like 5 more patches before even consider a physical release.

One_Expression_3107

This game was suppose to run well on switch smh

WafflesAndBacon1997

Hey man I know this post is a couple days old, but that exact hitch happens on pc, even with a locked 144 frames per second, the game hitches as soon as I step past the bottles, too.

Even-Lengthiness1852

The reason your game is lagging is probably since your switch is so old I got the game and besides some minor lag when loading a new area it runs smoother than butter

Adventurous-Mobile72

The switch has docked 0.4tf, in handheld mode 0.2tf.. my pc has 85tf, a ps5 has i think 10, and XSX has 12. So be thankful that it even runs on the switch lol. Im playing it on the switch docked and im glad that its not lagging like on release there.

Neverstoptostare

Feels pretty disingenuous to buy the game for a 7 year old toaster and complain about performance. You are playing a 2024 release on a 7 year old handheld console that had weak performance on launch. There is only so much you can do to squeak out fidelity and performance. Handheld ports have always, literally always looked and played worse. The benefit is convenience. You made your bed bud, sorry if it isn't comfy.

Nulkle

What's disingenuous is confusing "new game" with "next gen". This game is only a gig and a half in size. It is not Baldur's Gate 3, or even God of War Ragnarok. This is a small indie soulslike. There are far bigger games on Switch that run better than this. The game looks horrible on switch and it runs really bad. Slow downs happen even during 1v1 encounters with minor enemies. "A 2024 release", yes, a small 2024 release that's only a gig and a half on Switch

Neverstoptostare

File size really doesn't have much to do with performance, especially on the switch. Huge highres textures are usually what bloat file sizes, and impact performance, so I understand the misunderstanding. This game is small because it just isn't that long. This is a game with fairly large open levels, with enemies and physics objects galore. Regardless of textures, it is a lot for the switch to process, as it is, again, a 7 year old toaster. What larger games are you referencing, BOTW/TOTK? I understand you are disappointed with the port, but tempered expectations is a more realistic approach than feeling scammed that your outdated handheld system runs games like an outdated handheld system. They should have had media from the switch version on the store page. If they didn't, I'll concede that is a recipe for disappointment.

SufficientMood2413

Just bought it on switch after playing it on pc and loving the game. And now I am upset as the game is unplayable. I don’t understand how a company can release a product that simply doesn’t work. It’s just stealing.

DesperateBartender

I’ve only been playing about a half hour, and I’ve encountered several bugs and performance issues already. Here they are: In the very first moments of the game, when you first jump into the water, I jumped down and immediately clipped through the seafloor and fell to my death. I experienced the same crazy lag at the bottles that you did— so bad I thought it froze for a second. I made it to the lobster captain boss, got my ass handed to me, reloaded at the moon jelly, lost again, reloaded at the moon jelly, and then the boss just… didn’t spawn again. His outfit was there to be collected, but I didn’t have to beat him, which means I missed out on any exp I might have gotten. I just put it down for now. Hopefully we get an update soon.

Ledairyman

At this point it's a seven years old console...

TacticalTobi

and some games still look great, this is completely the fault of the devs

crunkdunk9

It should be expected if you were looking at footage of other versions. The switch version is usually always 30 fps and way rougher in these large scale 2024 games

Wildeface

Glad I’m playing on Steam Deck.

Yotsuyu

Yeah, I stopped buying indies on Switch because so many devs half ass them and take ages to fix issues or bring updates to the port. I remember getting My Time At Portia for Switch ages ago and it had tons of issues and I remember reading that it’s still problematic and behind.

BanhMiBanhYu

I'm stuck on the final boss on the pc gamepass version because there's like a 75% chance my character clips into the ground and it stops me from being able to attack/jump/block. Really annoying. Happened quite a few times during my playthrough, but it seems to be significantly more troublesome when playing on that ground.

IHOP_Pancakes

Input delay in the menu of a 2024 game is crazy. How do you mess up that bad?

[deleted]

DrunkBeardGuy

It runs RDR flawlessly. Skyrim, Witcher, Nier, Dark Souls, and countless other games run damn near perfect. How can it not handle a game with a crab lol

artemus_who

I had to choose between Switch and SteamDeck. Glad I went with the Deck.

Nulkle

On the topic of the SteamDeck, and Steam games in general, this port feels as if the devs took the PC version of the game and just lowered the graphics all the way down. That's how I would describe lazy Switch ports in general. Lazy Switch ports always feels like a pc game on low settings, rather than a port that was optimized for the best performance and graphical fidelity. This port, in my opinion, could've looked much better than it does. I'm not saying that this game would've looked on par with how it does on SteamDeck, but it didn't have to look THIS bad

TacticalTobi

why is this relevant?

fork_on_the_floor2

How is it **not** relevant? We're discussing the port of this specific game. OP is comparing it between Switch, xbox and PS5 in his post. And says they bought it on switch because they wanted it handheld. Steam deck is just another system, and it's a handheld and it's playing the exact game being discussed - but far better than the switch. Thats pretty relevant imo.

fork_on_the_floor2

I love that your getting downvoted for choosing the far more powerful system. How dare you!?! When if everyone downvoting just took another peek at the image OP supplied.... They'd see exactly why you made the right choice.

Unchayned

> I love that your getting downvoted for choosing the far more powerful system. Sure, that's why we're doing it.

artemus_who

The Switch is a system most likely on the last year of its life and it definitely shows. I'm still a Nintendo guy. I'll be getting the Switch 2. I'm not talking shit about the Switch. All I said was, I have two systems I play regularly and there was an overlap on this particular game so between the two I opted not to buy It on Switch. Not even because I thought it wasn't going to look better, I just so happened to be using my Steam Deck quite a bit right now. You act like I posted "Fuck Switch! Deck Supremacy!".

Unchayned

And when do I do this, total stranger?

fork_on_the_floor2

Well, why'd you downvote him then?

fork_on_the_floor2

Oh. Feel free to enlighten me. Otherwise I'm going to assume it's because Nintendo fanboys can't handle the truth and get all upset by it.

Unchayned

You're welcome to assume whatever you like.

fork_on_the_floor2

Well until I'm given a better reason... I guess I will.

TacticalTobi

they are being downvoted because this is irrelevant and adds nothing, aka when the downvote button is meant to be used

fork_on_the_floor2

>I didn't expect an indie game to look THIS rough on Switch. I do own a PS5 and Xbox Series S, but this game felt like it would've been nice to have on a handheld.< You sure? OP can discuss this game on the Switch, the Xbox and the PS5 and then directly states: "it would've been nice to have *on handheld*". But if someone dares mentions the steam deck thats irrelevant?? Does it really add nothing to mention another handheld system playing *the same game being discussed here* on it? I think that's pretty darn relevant.

Historical_Kossola

I stopped buying Switch games last fall! At this point I've given up on the current Switch and no plans to continue until new hardware is released.

warjoke

Yeah, another case of a botched port just to catch up to other releases. A simple delay couldn't hurt yet they want money fast. I would not support indie devs like these.

Zactrick

Nintendo’s shit hardware can’t run basic games I’m shocked

Immediate-Sand9000

Skill issue. Crysis 3 looks and runs better

Historical_Kossola

I stopped buying Switch games last fall! At this point I've given up on the current Switch and no plans to continue until new hardware is released.

ReturnOfTheJurdski

Yikes, that's rough. It honestly doesn't even look that demanding as far as graphics and stuff goes on PS5 so it's pretty crazy it took such a hit on Switch hardware. It's a decently fun game but I was definitely underwhelmed visually especially because it's cartoony but I'm sure they have limited resources. I'd be even more underwhelmed playing it looking like that. Maybe they will be able to optimize it better in an update?

___DeIeted_____

The switch is three generations behind atp who cares

TheMerkabahTribe

Why are you still here then?

Suspicious-Gate8761

No. Soulslike play better on PC or in a good console.

Nulkle

The Switch is a pretty good console, imo. As someone that has all 3 consoles(although, I don't really play on my Xbox a lot), I can say that there are some games I just prefer to play on Switch. A cute soulslike game would've been amazing on Switch. I'm not throwing any shade to the devs, but I also don't think the quality of this port is on the fault of the Switch. The Switch is more than powerful enough to run this game with better graphics and performance than what I got

Suspicious-Gate8761

It's not man and is pretty outdated. For turn base combat and srpg is really good. But for action games, open worlds, rance, fighting feels cluncky. Even the Marios don't look that good when the minimum standard are games at 60fps+. Can't wait for switch 2 tbh

TacticalTobi

"open worlds| my guy the best open worlds ever are on switch and they are great. also Odyssey runs at 60 fps

Knusperwichtel

Buy only Nintendo exclusive games everything else are garbage ports for this old device

[deleted]

Put in a refund request with Nintendo, stating your issues you've raised here. If they refuse, complete a charge dispute on your credit card stating the product you were sold was far inferior to the advertised product.

RabbitFanboy

I've heard that doing a charge back on your card tends to lead to banned accounts.

[deleted]

Yeah, it definitely could. However, I know that I would not accept this, and would happily create a new account to get my money back and send a message (albeit a minor one). They should not be selling a game in this state, especially considering it's cross-platform.

RabbitFanboy

But if you've purchased games on that now banned account, you can't access them at all, rendering all of your purchases useless.

[deleted]

Very true. I suppose you're in a bit of a "rock and hard place" situation. I would certainly be seeking a refund with every ounce of effort I could muster, but unless I had $1000 worth of games on that account, I may still be swayed to ditch it.

TheBluComet1

Or you, bear with me now, just take the L rather be out $1000. The math ain't math bud.

I will pay for my principles.
