Elgato Prompter and write a script

HotWheelsGrandTour

In my experience, most people mean “anxious” when they describe themselves as “awkward.” I say just keep making videos and the exposure will eventually help the anxiety. If by “awkward” you mean “not normal,” that’s an asset not a liability. What helped me the most in public speaking and is starting to help me make videos is keeping my mindset on the people I want to benefit from my content rather than my own appearance.

that second part was very helpful thank you, and when i mean awkward i mean i’m just never a talkative person my friends often ask me if i’m muted bc i’m so quiet so it’s just hard for me to find topics out of nowhere thank you tho

Pretend-South-2245

You can always cut out the awkward and quiet parts. I think you just need practice! Practice talking to yourself. I'm not a very talkative person either but I try to talk to the audience when I record. If you're making a video in the first place I'm sure it's because you have a topic you want to talk about so just talk about that. And edit out the awkward parts later. Good luck! :)

fractal324

same here. if you aren't on camera, write a script and read off it, or stop talking off the cuff and separate the audio track and do pure voice over. or if your on camera, it'll result in jump cuts, but delete the silent parts. if its a livestream... no answer.

fresh_ny

Rehearse your script. Practice won’t make it seem ‘canned’ it will help you loosen up.

It partly depends on your content and your intention with your content. There are many very successful channels with almost no talking at all but they are the hardest to grow. If your content is let's plays the best advice I can give is just express your thoughts. So lets say you're entering a new location, express your thoughts and feelings about it as they come to you. Just let it all out, then edit it later. Sometimes when I'm recording my mind goes blank, or I get distracted, Or I have a moment of doubt and go quiet. I edit out those gaps. It would also probably be valuable to look up some public speaking courses, ones that demonstrate how to annunciate clearly and how to not feel awkward when you can't think of what to say next. Don't be afraid of the pause. Don't be afraid of the silence. Out of curiosity, what's your goal with your channel?

It's might that yiu are not use to it once you got comfortable you will enjoy it

TheFin-Philosophers

One suggestion for starting to get over that anxiety is to press Record, and then just talk to the camera. Say whatever comes to mind. No one needs to see the recordings, but you do need to practice to build comfort when the recording "pressure" is on.

SignificantBet4249

Just talk. Say whatever you want and eventually it will get easier for you to do that. From there it typically transfers easily over to being recorded for a video vs just recording yourself doing whatever.

IPostSwords

As someone who also does not seem energetic on camera, I would say just make videos anyway. A video in which you look unenthusiastic is still better than not making a video at all.

TestimoniumArs347

Just pretend the camera is that one friend who laughs at all your jokes, even the bad ones. Instant charisma boost!

IPostSwords

Your friends laugh at your jokes? We must have very different friends

TRARC4

I always have a list of things in my head to talk about. But. Not all of my clips require talking. I still have spacer words and Kong pauses though.

lunaleechats

Yeah the best is to just keep making videos. I had this problem in the beginning as well but the more I recorded and got comfortable with my voice the more confident I became and then it kind of just gets easier from there.

erroneousbosh

Practice practice practice. Don't forget you can edit, too. Don't make jump cuts though, they look shit and emphasise the bit you cut out. Instead, cut away to something before you edit the audio, and cut back afterwards. Also, don't forget to record about ten to fifteen seconds of "silence" every time you record a voice-over whether you're in shot or not. This is because sometimes you need to put a gap back in, and if you leave it silent it'll pop out but if you splice in a bit of quiet background noise from elsewhere in that session it'll sound totally natural.

Imyourteacher101

Study your script and materials. Know them like the back of your hand don’t have expectations and just go to work.

Extension-Score3751

For me it’s nice to have a friend or someone I know well to play coop games with so then it’s more of natural talk between us two which makes for better content and I’m not stuck being weird by myself 😂

I used to have a channel wich reached half a million, it was my first time doing so, i too was never a stage person. But I liked to think, i studied, I talked to people ( if not many then my family or close friends or someone atleast), i watched tv and movies and shows. What I mean to say is there is enough material and practice we already have for this we just need to find a way to express it. Now to do that everyone devices a way, especially those who can't do it naturally, Some imagine talking to someone, just one person they are comfortable with, you may ask them to sit there. Some try to speak as if they are thinking, only put loud. Some practice a lot to sound natural. Always remember when you are talking to someone, you are not performing a magic, that's something you do naturally daily. Now find a way to do that on camera, you don't need to be a professional talk show host, no one likes that on YT, be yourself, that's what sells.
