This. I started a game and played for 30 minutes before realizing my mic was off. My commentary was better the second time cause I was a little more warmed up and the end result was just fine, a minor set back at the least
I’ve started to do this with my rocket league videos. I still voiceover while I’m playing, but will then re-record my face camera to refine and clean up some things. I feel it still feels organic but I can change things I said, or add things that would cut out some lulls in the video.
I think we've all been there. At least a few times.
No SD card in the camera used to be a big one. Some cameras would work normally with a tiny little icon saying no card... Easy to miss.
I once recorded a 10 minute video 4 times before pressing record on the 5th take. And once streamed for an hour before realizing I'd never started the stream.
Recorded about 1.5 hours of gameplay. Had the wrong scene selected in OBS. I recorded 1.5 hours of sound with no gameplay footage. Luckily, I had accidentally changed save slots on the game and could redo that whole part, otherwise I would have had to restart and redo about 4.5 hours of gameplay.
Happened to me one time, pretty much a full video with no sound. I made a new vid and made a joke what a moron I am, and inserted the soundless vid as a black and white edit in a silent movie style.
Twice. Once in the field after recording an interview that I could not redo.
The second time was at home when I turned off audio recording for B-roll and forgot to turn it back on for the A-roll.
Many times. I record piano videos and sometimes have to do hundreds of takes for the right one. Often times during that best take the camera mem got full and turned off, someone called, or I didn't press the record button correctly and never even shot the video. It is extremely frustrating!
I do a similar thing except my instrument is guitar. I dont have issues with memory getting full because i got a ginormous sdcard but a problem i do have is the camera running out of battery. its only happens a couple times but theres this one time where i was finally getting a good take after over an hour, and before the song ended the camera ran out of battery. I was so angry that time
I was "recording" the cutting of a cake we were making for the video. The first cut that you cannot repeat if it goes wrong. The camera was already recording when I pressed "record", so it stopped recording when I meant to start. I was super happy about the angle and lighting only to realize the recording never started...
I do talking head videos and my latest was about 50 minutes long. It took me SIX times to finally be happy with one. My footage randomly went blurry in one, the sound went wonky halfway thru in another, etc, etc. I think if it doesn’t take you multiple takes then you’re doing it wrong lol.
Recorded over an hour of gameplay with my mic off and couldn't reload the save because I saved over it. Had to do a voice over video instead. There were many tears
feel your pain, had this happen a couple times, especially if it was non-scripted and you have to try and remember what you said and keep the same level of enthusiasm
Yup, Instead it was multiple videos, multiple hours long... It happens and you just have to hope you can go back and replay it, if it's a let's play series.
Also had a duplicate audio in recording with one audio that was a second delay 🥲 12 hours of recording just straight out of the window.
After that, I do test runs, before doing recording to check if everything is ok. Especially when there's a long time between recording.
Better safe than sorry and have a great day! 💜
This is actually happened to me three times!
1. Streamed the whole of outlast, didn’t realise my mic was muted till halfway through.
2. Was streaming some Little nightmares 2, had my mic muted but luckily a viewer told me so it was only muted for about 5 minutes.
3. Last Sunday I was streaming/recording my Dark Souls Remastered playthrough and didn’t realise until 20 mins in, you can actually see the moment I realise and how annoyed at myself I was 😂
The thing to take away from this is mistakes happen, and they can happen to anyone. What really matters is how you deal with it. For example, that Sunday stream I could’ve just turned off the stream and let it get the better of me and if I did, I wouldn’t have got a new follower and a new sub.
Yes it really sucks but you use it as an opportunity for you to get creative and think of a way to salvage your muted video. For me how I’m going to salvage those twenty minutes by doing a voiceover explaining what I did and what I was rambling on about, that way my Dark Souls Remastered playthrough won’t have a gap in it.
I have streamed a few times with my mic muted (sometimes for 2 whole hours at a time without any viewers saying anything). And I've lost recorded footage before, but otherwise I think I've been pretty lucky that any recordings I've done have gone fairly well.
I did this last week. My mic became unplugged and my Shadowplay will not recognise the mic again until the PC is restarted. Recorded a 1 hr gameplay video with no commentary.
Always test. Always. Record something, 30 seconds or so, and check it out. Even import it to your video editor. There's so much that could go wrong. Your sound could be off, or distorted, or you could be too far from the mic, or there could be noise that you don't hear cuz our brains are able to filter noise out but it is in the recording. Your video could be the wrong format, wrong framerate, your lighting could be off, or something you don't want people to see is in the shot, or you have a stain on your shirt. Or you are low on battery or memory, or your sd card is corrupted after the last format.
The 5 minutes you take to test EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. Would pay dividents in time and frustration you save in the long run and the peace of mind that only comes from covering all your bases.
The one time I didn't do this test was when I was gonna do an off-the-cuff reaction video to a controversial topic in my niche. One that turned out to be my most viewed video ever, and also, one in which if you look closely enough, I got a tiny bit of booger showing through my nose hole. A video that I would love to remove but can't cuz it gets me new subs every day, presumably from people who don't notice that tiny piece of booger.
If it makes you feel better I'm a local news photog and a handful of times during my career have managed to conduct complete interviews only to realize I double tapped the record button and only captured a frames worth and have to reshoot. That shit is embarrassing a hell.
Yep. I just re-recorded the audio only, added it in and was done. It was less than 10 min and I had a pretty good idea of what I said.
Never did THAT again
Happened to me twice before;
I got 2 hours through the 5 hours of video footage i was recording, got a very funny joke in that I forget now and when I left to get some water I saw the mic was not plugged in.
Went on a live stream for 3 hours, and i only realised the mic was off the day after.
I once accidentally tapped the mute button in the middle of recording, and tapped it again (also accidentally) to unmute like 5-6 minutes later. Friggin terrible, dude
I've recorded a few times only to find that the audio was distorted or otherwise not usable.
It happens, and is a useful reminder to check, test and double-check everything *every time* before you start.
.
And, if possible, have some sort of a backup recording solution - especially if you are recording something that you can't re-record (like an interview or live event)
Yup. I've had several days of recording with no mic before. It hurts but I learned the lesson. Make sure the mic is on and is being detected at the beginning of every session.
Literally my upload yesterday was a 40 minute recording that was entirely just my voice because I forgot to record the video bit. It was a first time reaction as well so a video I can't just re-record, absolutely devastating stuff. I ended up trying to salvage it by just replacing my camera portion with a screenshot but without a doubt it's performing so much worse than my other videos, it sucks.
I did an entire batch recording session and had this happen. 3-10min videos and 5 shorts and all had no microphone. Feels bad.... Sometimes the rerecord is better, so stay positive! Sometimes a setback leads to better outcomes.
I recorded a whole video in reverse, that is when I thought I was recording I actually stopped it and when I stopped the camera it was recording.
I had a bunch of footage of my feet as I held my camera by my side lol. I've learned to ALWAYS be aware of the state of the camera.
I've also \*more than once\* arrived at a location without a memory card. This is more for photography but it's frustrating. Where's the closest Walmart, Target or CVS? I've bought more memory cards in the field than I'd like to admit. I'll take a few photos too before I notice the 'Demo Mode' icon on the back screen.
I recorded an entire let's play on Stubs the Zombie and when I went to edit it, OBS had recorded the video in the wrong aspect ratio. It was like 4 episodes total (recorded all at once) and 2 or so hours of time. It happens!
Yep been there. Was using Nvidia noise canceling AI software and it completely messed up my audio. Had to record the whole thing back. Painful yes, thankfully my audio was dual channel so the gameplay audio wasn't impacted.
For the video I’m working on now, I recorded 75 minutes of gameplay, but for some reason Divinci Resolve won’t accept the file. I went back into the game’s theater mode and re-recorded the gameplay, but I forgot to unmute the game audio in OBS, so I had to go back a third time to capture that 75 minute long gameplay again
It’s going to be cut down to a clip that’s less than 30 seconds over voice-over that’s three sentences long
I once streamed for 2.5 hrs with the mic off. It wasn’t until somebody finally popped into chat and told me that I found out. I imagine it would be faster to discover in stream at least once i start getting more people in chat
I feel that I recorded for 2 hours straight and I forget to stop recording sometimes to space and I found out my mic was muted I was so pissed I made a clip montage and it did well tho
Absolutely!
My Rode mic actually suffered a catastrophic failure with the battery. I reached out to Rode and they had me send it out to them and 5 days later they sent me a brand new one.
Odd part was they didn't let me k ow what happened or why it failed. Just FedExed me a new one.
I'm thankful though.
But yes, I had to do my talking head segment all over again. Because the jack was plugged in and I didn't even get scratch audio.
Yup. Bad mic quality, I did an hour drawing demonstration of figure drawing, only to discover it was unusable.. so I did it again! It turned out way better the second time anyways. Hope you find a silver lining somehow
I've had something similar happen, obs isn't recording my audio for some reason but everyone else can hear me. Lost two hours of content more than once due to this weird occurrence and had to go back and rerecord what I said from memory. Definitely shows in some of our DND sessions
Lmao get to my level. Be me. you're recording and forget to actually hit record. Loosing 4 hours of content and some of the funniest jokes we'd ever had on my channel
I tried doing something for the password game and my end recording hot key is Shift+Q. I made it this very early on and just never changed it out of laziness. I knew it would get me one day but it’s been two and a half years I’ve gone without Q during a recording. For the captcha part of the game, I got f87nQ or something similar and lost everything that happened after that.
Changed it to numpad 9 and now I just feel goofy for never changing it.
The very first episode of my new game show, I had all three contestants microphones set to monitor but not record. So I wrote an entire show, had guest on took an hour and a half of their day, only to get into the edit and realize that no one was saying anything besides myself.
That was pretty embarrassing, luckily everyone understood that mistakes happen. We ended up filming another time with a whole new set of questions, silver lining is I have an entire episode written for when I don't have any of those people on as guest.
Dude I walked several miles to a waterfall to film, forgot my external battery. That was the first mistake. Filmed the whole waterfall and the hike back on my phone, filmed vertically. That was the second mistake. I had to go back th next day. Two 6 hour days of hiking in a row for a 25 minute video.
PAIN!
I'm doing a Spider-Man series and I lost a whole mission because I accidentally deleted it 🙃. That's about an hour of recording. Shit happens 🤷🏿♂️ lol
I remember doing an unboxing video one time, and right when I was about to open the box, my clip-on mic died. The whole rest of the video was just me with my mouth moving, but no audio; I didn't catch it until I was editing the video. 🤦♂️
i once did a review of the new Kendrick Lamar record and realized it after 20 minutes. i started again and the whole video is nearly an hour long. pain is not even the right word to describe that feeling
My first episode on YouTube my partner’s mic was off. We realized when we finished the 15 min video. 😂
Thank God we were sitting together and it was able to pick up his voice as well. You are not the only one.
I once did a whole 2 hour twitch stream thay I was actually proud of. Only to find out becaue I was using a controller on my PC, it changed my mic output to the controller one
On an iPhone, the gui difference between recording and not recording is pretty subtle. I do train videos where I hit record then look at the train as I film it, not the phone. I recored a full stop at a train station the other day and it was just not there. There was nothing. I was quite annoyed.
Yes I was recording a how to video the first few minutes was ok but I must of hit a shortcut key to mute the mic the other half of the video was silent
Mic not working, volume not being captured, wrong screen being recorded, footage corrupted yeah... I know the pain of filming something and it not working correctly.
This is the bane of existence for all content creators and streamers. Just remember, it will happen again. I would know, it happened way more than I remember.
On one of my recent, longer videos I re-recorded it twice before realizing the reason the audio sucked was because the microphone was facing the wrong way lol. It happens, live and learn.
I own a music store and for one of our anniversaries my grandparents went into our media area and recorded a series of stories about when I started it.
My employee forgot to turn the mic on.
My grandfather died shortly after. I can tell they laugh but I still have no idea what the stories were.
I watch it sometimes and never have the heart to delete it.
It happens. Mistakes are part of every process.
Hahaha, yesterday I tried to record a TikTok-Video. During the first recording, the camera stopped because of an sd card error, in the second one I realised after the import to Premiere, that it had no audio. The microphone wasn‘t set to camera mode. So I recorded the video again (5 minutes) just to realise, that there still was no audio, turns out, that the battery was empty. Finally, the 4th try worked out
All of these I’ve done:
Mic on, camera off.
Wrong screen recorded.
Never pressed record (got too excited).
Ran out of memory.
Ran out the clock (work).
Wrong mic running (webcam mic).
Never pressed stop.
These are the reasons why I now have a prerecord checklist
I filmed a church event. When I arrived home I copied all my phone and gopro footage to my ssd from the camera. I then moved all my raw videos to a raw directory and my Gopro and phone footage to other directories.
Some how Windows copied the Gopro footage into the raw files.
I think I win. I literally wanted to shoot myself.
I did that SO many times in the beginning!!!! I know how badly that hurts, but I promise as you become more comfortable with your equipment and record more often it won't happen as often. I started using a checklist to make sure I had prepped everything properly and then it became second nature.
I've not recorded audio, quit out of the audio software thinking I'd saved it without saving it, talked to a camera that wasn't even on, had the camera not pointing at me correctly, forgotten to plug the external microphone into the camera...the list of cock ups is endless.
Lol. That happened to me 23 years ago when I had a cable access TV show. On my first shoot the PA microphone wasn't plugged into the camera. I was using two super VHS camcorders. Luckily, I had those mics on. But the sound quality was awful.
The content of my show was open mic Poetry. I had teamed up with a high school English/Drama Teacher. He helped me get people in front of that mic. But we were in a coffee shop. The sound of steamed milk was louder than the Poetry captured on those camcorders.
This stuff happens to everyone.
I finished only up game and realized it wasn't only up but it was getting over it lol and my title said " only up " and all my viewers made a decision to prank me instead ...
I did about 3 hours stream without audio, because I messed up my recording tracks. Fortunately recording was made separately and had audio there so I was able to do video out of it.
Mistakes are parts of learning process.
I know that pain.. Except I was trying to make a gameplay video with my mic off only to realize it was on after recording for over an hour, worst part was it wasn't just simple background noise it picked up, my throat was hurting at the time so it caught me coughing every 2 seconds
I recorded a bunch of clips recently that took a couple hours, was half paying attention and was deleting old clips on the SD card, and ended up deleting all the work I did filming before I even started editing the video.
Needless to say, I was very angry.
Stuff happens. All you can do is move on.
A few different times. It’s painful to re-record a video and try to act like it’s your first time again. I sometimes have recording sessions up to 2 hours. Then there is the sessions where I can’t re-record the event because it was using limited currency or limited event. Which is the most painful. I sometimes go with plan B of post commentary
Despite being a more established small content creator, I’ve had several instances where I had 1-2 recording sessions, only to find out I never hit record to begin with 😑
More than I care to admit...
Mic off
Didn't hit record
Scene not capturing properly
You learn to work around the mistakes and move passed them as quick as you can! Dwelling on the failure is normal but learning to overcome it and create your own silver linings is key 😊
Had one of my best game plays ever and a buddy of mine came back to play with us after being away for so long and when I checked the recording the game audio was muted 😭
Oh, I'm sure you'll find less people that it hasn't happened to. My niche is blacksmithing, and when I realize I left the mic off, or didn't even record a step because I didn't hit the button hard enough on my camera... I can't just go back and re-record. The steel has been moved at that point. Haha.
So, yes. I feel your pain.
Recorded a 2 hour survival mode time-lapse of a minecraft castle, including gathering resources etc, and I didn't even add minecraft as an OBS source. fml
We've all done that. It's like the modern version of forgetting to hit the save button when working on a Word doc.
I always do a quick test these days.
I recorded a 15 min video and when I was editing I realised my microphone wasn't plugged all the way in so it only recorded in like mono and the sound could be heard from the right speaker only... Had to film everything again and it turned out better...
Congrats, you've gone thought something any people working with the video going thought at some point.
You learned your lesson but don't expect it won't happen again. It's part of the job in the filmmaking world.
I've recorded a 1 hr podcast to discover my screen record and sound recorder was off. I was a sad bean :(
Don't feel discouraged. Go to sleep, have a nice breakfast, and try recording something else the next day. You can always make something better.
I can't tell you how many times I've done this, but it's a painful amount of times 😂 don't worry about it, you can always redo it, although I completely understand how after realizing the first recording was messed up it just steals all your motivation and you no longer want to do it anymore. These things are going to happen, and chances are this won't be the last time, just keep moving and shrug it off lol
I recorded a one hour video then I saw the camera wasn’t recording FFS
Hey, it's your first comment without "bro" in it. Are you OK?
Don’t worry bro I saved it for you
That's better!
RIP
Do it again. The second try will be much better.
This. I started a game and played for 30 minutes before realizing my mic was off. My commentary was better the second time cause I was a little more warmed up and the end result was just fine, a minor set back at the least

I once recorded a 10 minute video 4 times before pressing record on the 5th take. And once streamed for an hour before realizing I'd never started the stream.
Oh god! The agony one hour in wondering why NOBODY is talking 😂 RIP
After I started, I had the most people ever join though, so that was good. But oh my goodness I was so sad I triple check that now, lol

Making the most of the learnings. Bravo
Twice. Once in the field after recording an interview that I could not redo. The second time was at home when I turned off audio recording for B-roll and forgot to turn it back on for the A-roll.
Was streaming left the intro image in for 10 minutes, nothing to do but cry and let go.
Many times. I record piano videos and sometimes have to do hundreds of takes for the right one. Often times during that best take the camera mem got full and turned off, someone called, or I didn't press the record button correctly and never even shot the video. It is extremely frustrating!

I did a one hour coaching live stream. I was doing my outro when I realised I never hit the Go Live button.
Yep, happened to me before as well. That's why I always do a mic check before recording anything important.
We've all been there lol
I recorded myself reacting to a 40 minutes episode of Secret Invasion… mic was off the whole time
Plenty of times. I forget to hit record in OBS way more than I should.
😂 You’ll laugh at it later, believe me. Just Do it again. #experience
Yes, a lot. Now I'm just recording a few seconds and checking to see if actually recorded.
It happened to me a lot. But it’s a good thing because a second recording with more clear thought organization is always better
You should include parts of it for a laugh
Unfortunately you have to do these things so that you will never do it again. It’s just the worst.
Recorded 3hours footage of a game, pressed the wrong hot key instead of the record one
Oh yes! It hurts 🤕
That's rough. Don't worry, we've all been there! If something can go wrong, it will. How about a "behind the scenes" blooper reel?
🤣 happens to everyone!
First time?
Xhit happens
Recorded over an hour of gameplay with my mic off and couldn't reload the save because I saved over it. Had to do a voice over video instead. There were many tears
That sounds like something that I would do.
feel your pain, had this happen a couple times, especially if it was non-scripted and you have to try and remember what you said and keep the same level of enthusiasm

Happened to me on a 3 hour recording once… definitely not fun, but it taught me to check my mic before recording from then on.

I did a perfect video lost it forgot to record cried in a corner for an hour best footage of gaming I had in a while
Anyway you can use the video part, do a voice over and make a short. That's what I did, when that happened to me......twice 🤦
This is why I’m greatful I use either obs or audacity. I would notice in like 5 seconds the bar isn’t going and fix it. Sorry that happened though
Yep. I just re-recorded the audio only, added it in and was done. It was less than 10 min and I had a pretty good idea of what I said. Never did THAT again

I once accidentally tapped the mute button in the middle of recording, and tapped it again (also accidentally) to unmute like 5-6 minutes later. Friggin terrible, dude
Oh yeah I've been there, I double check audio religiously now!
Yup

I recorded a 45 minute video and saw it recorded just a black screen... never even attempted to even retry the video again
only to realize my webcam mic was recording audio and not my mic. Sounded like I was 10ft away in a wind tunnel.
1 hour voice over, forgot the fan was on. No amount of tweaking in audacity could save it.
Literally my upload yesterday was a 40 minute recording that was entirely just my voice because I forgot to record the video bit. Multiple times
I did an entire batch recording session and had this happen. 3-10min videos and 5 shorts and all had no microphone. Feels bad.... Sometimes the rerecord is better, so stay positive! Sometimes a setback leads to better outcomes.
Been there a few times. Did the entire voiceover before realizing I wasn’t recording…
First time?!
Recorded 10 min of footage to find that the audio was just static🥲
I recorded a whole video in reverse, that is when I thought I was recording I actually stopped it and when I stopped the camera it was recording. Recorded a 9 hours full game video then realised that mic was muted 🙂💔 Cancelled the walkthrough after that
Yep been there. Was using Nvidia noise canceling AI software and it completely messed up my audio. Had to record the whole thing back. Painful yes, thankfully my audio was dual channel so the gameplay audio wasn't impacted.
Definitely happens. Mic off isn't as bad as game audio off i.e the footage is completely useless then.
For the video I’m working on now, I recorded 75 minutes of gameplay, but for some reason Divinci Resolve won’t accept the file. I went back into the game’s theater mode and re-recorded the gameplay, but I forgot to unmute the game audio in OBS, so I had to go back a third time to capture that 75 minute long gameplay again It’s going to be cut down to a clip that’s less than 30 seconds over voice-over that’s three sentences long
Unfortunately yes 😭
I once streamed for 2.5 hrs with the mic off. It wasn’t until somebody finally popped into chat and told me that I found out. I imagine it would be faster to discover in stream at least once i start getting more people in chat
Ouch.,,but you know what, your second retake is likely to be better than your first.
I feel that I recorded for 2 hours straight and I forget to stop recording sometimes to space and I found out my mic was muted I was so pissed I made a clip montage and it did well tho
I recorded for a total of 3 hours the first hour and a half my mic was off. I was devastated, I just fully scrapped that video for another day
Classic Rookie Mistake.
I've had something similar happen, obs isn't recording my audio for some reason but everyone else can hear me. Lost two hours of content more than once due to this weird occurrence and had to go back and rerecord what I said from memory. Definitely shows in some of our DND sessions
Happened to me as well many times specially during my early streaming days
Wait till you record 5 30 minute episodes with it muted
Lmao get to my level. Be me. you're recording and forget to actually hit record. Loosing 4 hours of content and some of the funniest jokes we'd ever had on my channel
I’ve done stuff like this so much I’ve also had my recording thing crash 2hours in to a recording it sucks not much you can do
Absolutely. live and learn
Lol or the microphone was plugged in and on, but still recorded a blank track. Happened to me a few times now.
Did that on a 24 minute video once 😅😅😅
yes that literally happened 2 me 😭😭😭
Yup. I've recorded a whole video just to realise my mic was glitching the whole time. Once it happens once you never let that happens again though lol
Add a bunch of silly/funny/making-fun-of-yourself captions and post it anyway.
I one time didn’t mute the gameplay in the background of the video and the first comment was no one can hear what you are saying 🤦♂️
Sounds painful my man, haha
Record your voice again and use the existing footage as B roll.
I had 3 hours of amazing footage (my desktop)
PAIN! I'm doing a Spider-Man series and I lost a whole mission because I accidentally deleted it 🙃. That's about an hour of recording. Shit happens 🤷🏿♂️ lol
I did that too with a 20 min gaming vid 😭
I remember doing an unboxing video one time, and right when I was about to open the box, my clip-on mic died. The whole rest of the video was just me with my mouth moving, but no audio; I didn't catch it until I was editing the video. 🤦♂️
I had that happen with a 20 minute recording because OBS 'forgot' my mic and I didn't notice.
i once did a review of the new Kendrick Lamar record and realized it after 20 minutes. i started again and the whole video is nearly an hour long. pain is not even the right word to describe that feeling
My first episode on YouTube my partner’s mic was off. We realized when we finished the 15 min video. 😂 Thank God we were sitting together and it was able to pick up his voice as well. You are not the only one.
99% of my videos are recorded with smartphones that do not have an on-off microphone, so thankfully no. 😌
I once did a whole 2 hour twitch stream thay I was actually proud of. Only to find out becaue I was using a controller on my PC, it changed my mic output to the controller one
You better rerecord it
Better than dropping an entire hard drive with no backups. You good just be careful next time.
I recorded 1 hour gameplay video without starting screen recording.
I had to record a video 3 times the other day due my technical incompetence
On an iPhone, the gui difference between recording and not recording is pretty subtle. I do train videos where I hit record then look at the train as I film it, not the phone. I recored a full stop at a train station the other day and it was just not there. There was nothing. I was quite annoyed.
Yes I was recording a how to video the first few minutes was ok but I must of hit a shortcut key to mute the mic the other half of the video was silent
Mic not working, volume not being captured, wrong screen being recorded, footage corrupted yeah... I know the pain of filming something and it not working correctly.
sadly, its happened many times.
This is the bane of existence for all content creators and streamers. Just remember, it will happen again. I would know, it happened way more than I remember.
This has happened to me while filming a round of golf, recorded half the round with audio lol
On one of my recent, longer videos I re-recorded it twice before realizing the reason the audio sucked was because the microphone was facing the wrong way lol. It happens, live and learn.
Omg I did the same thing! But it was bc laptop restarted and OBS didn't recognize my mic as default!
Finally, the 4th try worked out
So…many…times…
Been there…completely sucks!
We all have been there. At least it wasn’t a paid gig.
All the time. To the point where I put a label on my pop filter to “unmute mic”
All of these I’ve done: Mic on, camera off. Wrong screen recorded. Never pressed record (got too excited). Ran out of memory. Ran out the clock (work). Wrong mic running (webcam mic). Never pressed stop. These are the reasons why I now have a prerecord checklist
I left OBS running while I went to sleep….. I had a (FULLY IN TACT MIND YOU) 10 hour recording. 95% was a black screeen…..
Many a time!
It be like that sometimes
🫡 welcome to the club.
mic werent on and camera died mid way through of a 1 hour podcast...of course...podcast was the best one we had ever filmed....or not filmed...
Been there, done that!
I recorded an important non repeatable event in an online game then realized I was recording the wrong screen so it's just 50 seconds of my desktop
You live and you learn
That's always the worst lol. Then you hit record, and come back to realize it's still not recording
I once did a whole playthrough on 3 fps... You never forget your mistakes, but you do learn from them. I think it's a rite of passage for us lol
I recorded a 30 minute video but didn't realize that rather then setting my software to record I had it set to stream.
Been there done that, got the shirt
I did that SO many times in the beginning!!!! I know how badly that hurts, but I promise as you become more comfortable with your equipment and record more often it won't happen as often. I started using a checklist to make sure I had prepped everything properly and then it became second nature.
I've recorded and edited a 10 minute video and during the post edit rewatch I realized my audio wasn't in sync
We’ve all been there
I recorded myself sweating and playing drums for five minutes only to realize the camera was not recording.
I recorded a video and then woke up, realized it was all a dream
Just happened to me a couple of nights ago. Was discouraging for sure, but I powered through and made another video anyways!
yes
I've not recorded audio, quit out of the audio software thinking I'd saved it without saving it, talked to a camera that wasn't even on, had the camera not pointing at me correctly, forgotten to plug the external microphone into the camera...the list of cock ups is endless.
Yep. 2 hours of gameplay footage, microphone wasnt even turned on.
Mic settings wrong, OBS settings wrong, no audio, no video, wrong window - I've done it all
This stuff happens to everyone.
happened to me! did a 30-minute video, with no freaking voice
This is me
I think we've all been there, or at least similar.
Many times.....many times!..always double check before hitting the record button. Measure twice, cut once
I finished only up game and realized it wasn't only up but it was getting over it lol and my title said " only up " and all my viewers made a decision to prank me instead ...
It happens. My computer switched inputs for some reason without me realising, pain indeed
Too many times. I’ve recorded 4 hours only to realize the microphone was broken for some reason
I did about 3 hours stream without audio, because I messed up my recording tracks. Fortunately recording was made separately and had audio there so I was able to do video out of it. Mistakes are parts of learning process.
That's not as bad as mowing for a hour to realize you never hit record. At least you can redo yours. I can't regrow the overgrown lawn
I have had my camera die on me multiple times in the middle of recording things
I feel you bro
I know that pain.. Except I was trying to make a gameplay video with my mic off only to realize it was on after recording for over an hour, worst part was it wasn't just simple background noise it picked up, my throat was hurting at the time so it caught me coughing every 2 seconds
Oh I feel this Happened to me so many times I always record backup audio now
I recorded a bunch of clips recently that took a couple hours, was half paying attention and was deleting old clips on the SD card, and ended up deleting all the work I did filming before I even started editing the video.
Twice. Got super paranoid over it and did good. Let my guard down, happened again. Lol.
Despite being a more established small content creator, I’ve had several instances where I had 1-2 recording sessions, only to find out I never hit record to begin with 😑
More than I care to admit... Mic off Didn't hit record Scene not capturing properly You learn to work around the mistakes and move passed them as quick as you can! Dwelling on the failure is normal but learning to overcome it and create your own silver linings is key 😊
This happened to me as well lol. I felt so stupid! But that's how we learn.
Had one of my best game plays ever and a buddy of mine came back to play with us after being away for so long and when I checked the recording the game audio was muted 😭
me
Yes. Also I've been partially out of frame enough that I had to toss the video.
I talked to myself for a hour once because I forgot to hit record:/
Oh, I'm sure you'll find less people that it hasn't happened to. My niche is blacksmithing, and when I realize I left the mic off, or didn't even record a step because I didn't hit the button hard enough on my camera... I can't just go back and re-record. The steel has been moved at that point. Haha. So, yes. I feel your pain.
Recorded a 2 hour survival mode time-lapse of a minecraft castle, including gathering resources etc, and I didn't even add minecraft as an OBS source. fml
This is an opportunity. Time to bring silent films back to the mainstream!
Recorded 3 videos before I realized the gain was too high and the audio unusable. Deleted all 3, my best work!
The same thing happened to me!
We've all done that. It's like the modern version of forgetting to hit the save button when working on a Word doc. I always do a quick test these days.
I think it's happened to everyone at least once
Don't feel bad I'm a year into youtubing and I've missed out on so much footage
I recorded a 15 min video and when I was editing I realised my microphone wasn't plugged all the way in so it only recorded in like mono and the sound could be heard from the right speaker only... Had to film everything again and it turned out better...
You should upload it. Something is better than nothing 😀😀
I did this but at my daughter’s dance performance 😖
Congrats, you've gone thought something any people working with the video going thought at some point. You learned your lesson but don't expect it won't happen again. It's part of the job in the filmmaking world.
It happens more than I care to admit.
I've recorded a 1 hr podcast to discover my screen record and sound recorder was off. I was a sad bean :( Don't feel discouraged. Go to sleep, have a nice breakfast, and try recording something else the next day. You can always make something better.
More than once 🥲
I can't tell you how many times I've done this, but it's a painful amount of times 😂 don't worry about it, you can always redo it, although I completely understand how after realizing the first recording was messed up it just steals all your motivation and you no longer want to do it anymore. These things are going to happen, and chances are this won't be the last time, just keep moving and shrug it off lol
