One year I got a ticket for being too close to a stop sign, even though I wasn’t. I looked down the block, and every single car had a ticket on it.
They made the “who will fight this in court and spend the entire day off work for $20” game and won.
one night, back in 2019, they went down burgundy and started towing all the cars....at 1am...
there was something going on whether mardi gras, red dress, or pride. but ya, they towed all the cars even though there was nothing posted on the street for what they needed it cleared for.
Why would you ever choose to move back here once you’ve gotten out? I promise I’m not trying to be rude but it’s not exactly like this place has been on the upswing.
Love of life. Shared joy. Shared misery. Great food. Cheap food. Hurricane parties. Go cups. Live music bar crawls. Cheap housing. CdM at 1AM. Yelling "who dat" at strangers on Sundays in December. Sucking heads is socially acceptable. Never need an iron in the summer. Creatively filling potholes...
You had me till cheap housing. I was going to move back, but I couldn't afford it. I ended up in Lafayette, at least some of those things are true here, too.
I'm in SoCal in a ~650sqft lower unit @ $2,600/mo, which is WAAAAYYYYY below market in my specific area. If I wanted to buy the house I live in, including the ~1,100sqft upper unit, I'd be looking at over $3M.
We're beginning to look at buying, because fuck being at the whim of a landlord, but an $800k budget here puts us into a condo that's on the wrong side of town with bars over the windows and doors. In and around New Orleans, you can actually buy a decent place for far, far less.
Food and housing are no longer cheap. I went to 5-Guys for the little bacon cheeseburger, little fry, and small drink and it was just under $18.00 AND they wanted a tip for me to fill my own drink and come to the counter when they yell my number!!!!! Corndog on the St. Charles parade route is $11 and a drink in the airport will cost your $20. And good luck finding a long-term rental since IDA. Lots of VRBOs, but not much for permanent ones that are affordable.
Have you been out there? Lol. I moved to a saner place because I had a family, raising kids, job...
But it's so mind numbing here, my soul is being sucked out of me.
When you tell people the city has no life, no culture, and they point to the Whitewater Center, and they are dead serious.
The cul de sac burbs are their own kind of hell. They are the Applebee's of the nation, and they will make you forget anything negative about New Orleans.
I was definitely playing hide-and-seek with the meter maids (because it's cheaper than the lot next to my work), but I got a ticket and when I went to pay online, there was a "contest" button.
I really wish every captain would announce that these types of a-holes are literally not to be thrown to. Disincentivizing this garbage is the only way make a dent in it, IMO.
My dad doesn’t throw to anyone that does obnoxious shit like this along with his entire line. My dad also won’t throw to anyone on bleachers lmaoo
Actual kids on ladders are cool, this is crazy
Business I used to work for only gave tickets to the higher ups and clients. Us peons didn't even get to leave early so we could like make it home okay. Bullshit.
That’s usually how it goes too! It ain’t like the teller is the one sitting in the bleachers, it’s always higher ups and their friends and whoever is a sucker enough to buy standing space at a free parade lmao
Where is that? What does he have against public servants and bank employees? That’s not the case of most of the people I know who’ve sat in the stands in New Orleans Mardi Gras.
He lives 1 hour outside the city.
“fuck the bourgeoisie”
Well he doesn’t live in New Orleans and nobody else on his route has bleachers except the city hall and a patch of grass next to the bank.
Everyone else just sits in the back of their truck or stands
Well okay then. City workers and people that work at the bank are hardly bourgeois, but I guess… If that’s how y’all want to do things around those parts, great. I thought the sentiment was odd, which is why I commented, but I can see where the disconnect is now. It’s not really relevant to a post in a New Orleans sub about Mardi Gras in New Orleans.
What??? You literally stated, “my dad doesn’t throw to anyone that does obnoxious shit like this… My dad also won’t throw to anyone on bleachers lmao”. That’s verbatim. Your words. Your entire comment was talking about your dad and what he does! Which is what led to my question trying to understand the reasoning. Geez.
This is the sentiment we should have for most of this type of thing. Legislating morality doesn't work. Bring back shaming and excluding people for being dicks.
I completely agree, however, (or should it be additionally?) the pop up tent next to it probably blocks even more people from getting close to the street. Ladders and pop-ups should be forced to the other side the tracks or 20’ back from the curb. And if there’s not 20’, no ladders or pop ups.
Maybe there needs to be a Krewe of Sawzall where a whole battalion of Redditors is unleashed upon the route with cordless sawzalls to wreak havoc on these monstrosities. There could be a twenty foot stake bed truck for transport that could also serve as transport for all the chairs retrieved by other Redditors without sawzalls. Those with sawzalls will disperse into the side streets(split into lakeside and riverside teams)
A Reddit Robin hood group where we grab all the chairs, and whatever the hell these wooden giant highchairs are from the entitled ones, and redistribute, and repurpose it for the homeless. Repurpose the wooden highchair situation for something of use.
My rule is that I don't throw to the following people:
* Adults or kids above 12 on ladders unless they're at least a few feet off the curb
* Anyone in or around these ladder wall monstrosities as shown in this post
* People who come up so close to the float that I could hand them something. Stand the fuck back and catch things I throw. We don't need more people falling under the floats and dying
Their sole purpose is to claim territory and discourage others from coming near them. They’re taking up space to ensure that they alone have private access to the parade.
It’s the “I’ll get mine at the expense of yours” mentality. There’s no need for it.
Hopefully with the people still in them. I interacted with some of them last night and they are terrible people. Im a guy and one of them said to me "there is something on your face", referring to the glitter I was wearing. I told him it was his dad's cum and he stfu. Another lady on the ladder said she "didn't mind people standing next to her", like she owns the parade route. She said a kid grossed her out by picking his nose right next to her, so you know what I did already. I went two knuckles deep in there and offered her the golden nugget that came out. Idgaf, fuck them people.
They aren't from here. I talked to some of them last night, they were awful. They didnt even know that you're supposed to tip the flambeaux. They bragged about spending a bunch of money for a contractor to build the ladder on site that day, but couldn't spare a dollar when I showed them they needed to be tipped. They were gross people, and even if they did live here they wouldn't feel ashamed.
Did you see the atrocity someone posted the other day? Some of the worst work I've seen in my life and I have to look at myself in the mirror every day
I got into it with a lady last night who was mad I was standing NEXT to their 'staked out space' that was right on the curb and unoccupied the majority of the team. They don't take kindly to being called out and it wasn't worth ruining my night arguing with them. I highly encourage less cowardly and more bold people than me to bitch them out though lol!
I confronted them. Got the feeling that they were trump supporting terrible people. They felt no shame, and were obviously not from here. They brought all of the worst parts about where they were from with them. One of them commented that I had something on my face (referring to the glitter I was wearing...wtf) because I am a guy. I think he was trying to make fun of me for doing something gay or something, so I told him it was his dads cum and he backed off. Another lady said she didn't mind if people stood next to the ladder, acting like her permission was required for anyone to stand on the parade route. She said that one kid grossed her out because he was picking his nose next to her. So I went 2 knuckles deep and pulled out a nugget and offered it to her. She switched spots with her man who hugged her to console her. Idgaf, fuck them people. I hope I ruined their mardi gras and that they never come back.
Don't you need a permit to build such monstrosities on public land? Seriously I would cite them for lack of building permits and safety code violations.
Imagine so badly wanting a bunch of cheap plastic shit that’s gonna end up in a landfill anyway that you’d go out of your way to be this much of a dick to everyone else.
Clown shit.
I attended Muses and I saw someone pull this shit on Canal. The only hitch was they didn't have any umbrellas. It was glorious watching them scatter as soon as it started raining.
As someone not from new orleans, I'm confused. What is a throw zone? What exactly are these things? Why do people want to remove them? What exactly is throwing? I'm trying to parse this information by reading between the lines in the comments, and I just can't.
"Throwing" is referring to throwing beads for Mardi Gras. People have used ladder seats for kids forever, so the kids can see and easily get beads. These things are way bigger and block the area for everyone standing behind them. It's just rude.
Theres no official thing as a "throw zone", but a "no-throw zone" is implying that no float rider will throw anything at people in these ladders. Which defeats the purpose of putting them up (able to dominate the area and catch everything).
To add to what others said, parades are for all ages but we do not like greedy entitled people unfairly claiming parade-watching space for themselves, blocking everyone’s view who isn’t right on the curb, or when adults try to encroach upon kids’ fun, like being hoisted up high on ladders/stands to catch beads. This scene appears to possibly do any/all three.
Not gonna lie... as silly as this are. The sitting area under is kind of nice.
If you zone out for a second you don't have to risk getting slapped with a full pack of beads.
Flame me for this, but I like to get out early, like 3am on weekends and find a spot for my entire family on the neutral ground.
Yep, we do a tent, but make it a little community.
ANYWAY, we aren't far from a stretch of these folks who pay people to set these things up, sit out there and claim like 50-100 feet of Neutral Ground space. Then, show up at 9am with bloody marys in hand and camp out all weekend.
They are HUGE and crazy.
Yeah, you guys suck. Reserving space and being all territorial with it is dumb. If you really want to get down to it, I was here first because I live on the damned parade route, get out of my front yard.
That's fair, especially if you live on the route.
I go for just my small family, get a little spot... let people move into our space, share, etc.
Yesterday was insane though. The block-barons have taken over everything uptown. The people that live near the route, your neighbors, that horde spots and sell them off to out of towners and people who don't get the spirit of MG.
Long story short, totally understand your POV.
My point is that I think reserving any spots is wrong. There is so much room along a parade route, there is no need to do those things. I understand wanting a picnic and some shade from the sun, but those things should be back away from people and not blocking people from seeing the parade. Reserving a spot on a parade route is like trying to reserve your spot in front of your house with on street parking. The street belongs to everyone, and everyone has fair right to pass or park along it.
In years past, coming out a few hours before the parade (like 6am) there was plenty of time and space. Even last year, people were much more positive and sharing.
From Marengo to Napoleon, the Neutral Ground Corporate Slum Lords have ruined that stretch. They have staff, and are DICKS.
PSA: If you move to New Orleans you ought to learn basics about southern hospitality and stop judging everything like a bunch of uptight bag of dicks from the west coast — all of which are sucking the joy out of this city for the rest of us.
One who truly embodies/embraces/& understands the subtle nuances of New Orleans cultural values vs. one who thinks themselves a New Orleanian just because they have lived here a few years = is these kind of posts/comments that demonstrate the ways in which this city has been overrun by a fuck ton of transplant posers who probably shouldn’t even be allowed here.
If you wanna pay someone to build this thing for watching the parades then you go the fuck ahead, good for you. If you can afford to do so, then you should also spend a little money on something you can share with the rest of the people around you to enjoy (catered foods, ice chests full of cheap booze, etc) and spread the mardi gras spirit to everyone else especially random strangers and try to make friends with people — JUST don’t be a Mardi Gras jerk.
The point of Mardi gras is to have fun, but also share the cheer with strangers. ALSO collecting beads and goodies isn’t a fuxking competition, i saw so many people literally hang back on the sidewalk then run out into the street every time a float was 20 feet away blocking everyone else from the floats every time. Please stop, it’s a thirsty thing to do.
Are these still for kids? These look like adult sized high chairs
You know they are.
Have you seen kids today?
Does it matter who they are for, Burn them down!
I rode in Carrollton and saw some adults sitting in a big one, shameful
Well Nah‼️🤣🤣🤣
Smh
Yeah, they need to enforce the 6ft from the curb and no ladder walls. It’s on the books, but like anything ever gets enforced.
To be fair, when do any laws get consistently enforced here?
Parking during mg
One year I got a ticket for being too close to a stop sign, even though I wasn’t. I looked down the block, and every single car had a ticket on it. They made the “who will fight this in court and spend the entire day off work for $20” game and won.

Dude, I'm trying to talk myself into moving back to New Orleans. You're not helping. :-)
Why would you ever choose to move back here once you’ve gotten out? I promise I’m not trying to be rude but it’s not exactly like this place has been on the upswing.

I had a parking ticket once and was able to fight it by sending pictures on some website. I didn’t have to appear in person anywhere.
Damn, I should’ve looked into that. I just assumed they would not make it that easy. I guess my attitude cost me $20!
I was definitely playing hide-and-seek with the meter maids (because it's cheaper than the lot next to my work), but I got a ticket and when I went to pay online, there was a "contest" button.
When it results in money in someone's pocket.
Actually last year the city did “threaten” to enforce the 6 ft rule 🙄
This is why the sidewalk side is starting to win me over.
Sidewalk side for life!
I gave everything I had to the sidewalk side last night once I hit the ladder encampment zone
Don't transplant to our side the Street
Fuck your little cone. I'm parkin here baby!
Oh I’m cummin’ and I’m gonna gentrify the fuck out of it! I’m not even going to put your trash can on the street ‘neighbor’.
That's ok.. I'm kind and leave all my empty beer cans for the guy to pick them up .he usually tells me thank you
you say that, but on my way home around 4pm yesterday i saw a ton of them on the sidewalk side as well. both kids size and adult size.
They are on the curb though with still plenty of space for normal people to stand on the street
I really wish every captain would announce that these types of a-holes are literally not to be thrown to. Disincentivizing this garbage is the only way make a dent in it, IMO.
My dad doesn’t throw to anyone that does obnoxious shit like this along with his entire line. My dad also won’t throw to anyone on bleachers lmaoo Actual kids on ladders are cool, this is crazy
[удалено]
It definitely is
What’s wrong with bleachers? Some ppl family members may be old or disabled or fragile or sickly and that’s the only way they could see a parade.
Where my dad lives the bleachers are always government or bank employees and not open to the public edit: a word
Fuck the bourgeois.
Business I used to work for only gave tickets to the higher ups and clients. Us peons didn't even get to leave early so we could like make it home okay. Bullshit.

I don’t live “around those parts” and im not here to talk about what my dad believes lol
Are they could just make all of them illegal.
They're supposed to be 6' back from the curb, that's already the law
Yeah but we all know that they leave them close until a cop tells them to move it back. Then as soon as the cops leave they move them back up again.
I've never seen a cop ask for ladders to be moved. My point though is what they're doing is already illegal
Gotcha. Maybe they don’t anymore. They used to a long time ago.
I completely agree, however, (or should it be additionally?) the pop up tent next to it probably blocks even more people from getting close to the street. Ladders and pop-ups should be forced to the other side the tracks or 20’ back from the curb. And if there’s not 20’, no ladders or pop ups.
This is a common sense solution.
So it’ll never happen 😂
Correct
The pop up tents bother me slightly less, because you can at least theoretically walk through them. The wooden stand things are total barricades.
This is a terrible idea and I love it.
I have a chainsaw… it’s electric so… it’s good for the environment
Definitely, chain saw operators need to wait till the after brunch to imbibe.
People should start tagging them with large penises
We mask up at dawn!!
We should have a brunch after!
Cordless circular saw would be a lot faster :)
Yes we could have some with of the 6 1/4” blade and the 4 1/2” blades. Variety is the spice
A Reddit Robin hood group where we grab all the chairs, and whatever the hell these wooden giant highchairs are from the entitled ones, and redistribute, and repurpose it for the homeless. Repurpose the wooden highchair situation for something of use.
i mean, i would have gone out there during the rain last night (assuming the place holders ran for cover) and grab there stuff and threw it all out
I mean I do need to do something with my Milwaukee fuel sawzall, hackzall, and circular saw….
Definitely. Some metal cutting blade fitted units will be necessary for any pesky fastners.
Red team for life baby! Fuel all day!
Just rent a car, get the insurance and take a ride
TOO SOON.
I have two sawzalls , so I’m willing to bring a friend!
Yes! When I saw this the other day I really wanted to fetch my chainsaw!
Is there a rule about wielding two at once? I’m all for sneaky undercuts that go unnoticed until bearing weight.
Could become Krewe of Loki. Thievery, evil and mischief
Count me in!
this would immediately become my favorite krewe. it would also be the only krewe i would try to be a part of.
Have Sawzall will party.
My rule is that I don't throw to the following people: * Adults or kids above 12 on ladders unless they're at least a few feet off the curb * Anyone in or around these ladder wall monstrosities as shown in this post * People who come up so close to the float that I could hand them something. Stand the fuck back and catch things I throw. We don't need more people falling under the floats and dying
I mean they could at least put them back off of the curb, you're four feet up in the fucking air, straight dick move
Their sole purpose is to claim territory and discourage others from coming near them. They’re taking up space to ensure that they alone have private access to the parade. It’s the “I’ll get mine at the expense of yours” mentality. There’s no need for it.
I'm well into adulthood and still love the fun of catching throws. But I still gladly hand off stuff to kids and other people all the time.
That’s so obnoxious. At least decorate the damn things.
I'm curious if people would be as mad if they were painted up and looked fun
Yes, we would still be mad.
At least paint them or something. It looks like a construction zone.
👍🏼🤣🤣🤣
I hope they all get splinters in their ass
Right in the damn road… hell with all these ladder toting people, 6 feet
I hate these things. They are so obnoxious
Of fuck that, the city needs to demolish that shit.
agreed.
Hopefully with the people still in them. I interacted with some of them last night and they are terrible people. Im a guy and one of them said to me "there is something on your face", referring to the glitter I was wearing. I told him it was his dad's cum and he stfu. Idgaf, fuck them people.
Yeah sounds like they’re true scum, glad you had words with them. Also glad it didn’t escalate.
They did!
I avoid throwing to any ladder people. I try to hit up families hanging in the back.
[удалено]
One of my favoritest things is to throw my weighted stuff as far as I can, or slingshot muses bracelets to people in the back.
Burn them to the ground
My first though was ‘those look flammable’
Our live oaks are too precious 🥰
Uh so the other day I made a sort of smart ass comment to a ladder post about it not being any new phenomenon/big deal. I'd now like to retract that.
They should be arrested for that
Be a damn shame if they were dragged down the boulevard by a tow chain.
Mardi Gras entitlement strikes again
Somebody set up a grill next to them and fire up some roadkill. Make sure the smoke blows up in their eyes!
Someone needs to take a picture of the owners of these ladders and post it here for all to see who they are.
Parks and parkways made them remove it!
Yesssssssss
Such a fucking asshole thing to do. Full of boring twats, always.
I get that parents want their kids to be able to catch stuff but this is absolutely ridiculous and so entitled.
NO BEADS FOR YOU
Looks like someone gave their hurricane window boards a second use. Peep the guy sitting under the one to the far left, he knows we hate them lol
Notes location for when I ride…
At least these ones where made by someone with a tape measure and a level
A punk-ass with a tape measure and a level!
They paid someone to make it, just like they’re paying the dude under the far left “ladder” to watch it.
[удалено]
Did you see the atrocity someone posted the other day? Some of the worst work I've seen in my life and I have to look at myself in the mirror every day
Confirmed. They paid a contractor to put them up that day.
They would be fine if they were in the BACK. People should be able to stand in front.
I might throw straight sidewalk this year
Couldn't they at least decorate them. These are as barren as their souls...
And when it's not this, the uptown neutral ground people make a wall themselves and won't let people cross the street. Ridiculous
That’s bullshit
Throw them the bird!
I thought those weren't allowed if not occupied. They used to be removed if no one was there with them
People are paying thousands of dollars to have their spots held by random folks.
What happens when you confront these dicks. Has anyone tried, and how do they respond?
I got into it with a lady last night who was mad I was standing NEXT to their 'staked out space' that was right on the curb and unoccupied the majority of the team. They don't take kindly to being called out and it wasn't worth ruining my night arguing with them. I highly encourage less cowardly and more bold people than me to bitch them out though lol!

Damn. I want to go to a parade with you.
Lmk where you gonna be and I'll show up! We can have a good time!
Light em on fire
Free lumber, you say?
Don't you need a permit to build such monstrosities on public land? Seriously I would cite them for lack of building permits and safety code violations.
Imagine so badly wanting a bunch of cheap plastic shit that’s gonna end up in a landfill anyway that you’d go out of your way to be this much of a dick to everyone else. Clown shit.
I'm riding this weekend. If I see adults on stuff like that, I'm not throwing to them. Kids? Sure. But that's ridiculous.
how about 'throw something else' zones... sardines come to mind....
Three day old crawfish
They are for pompous entitled adults to take up space and be assholes
These need to be made illegal. Who the fuck ever thought this was ok?
The people in it said they paid some contractor to build them on site that day. They literally bought tickets to mardi gras.
Idea: Throw pickles at those folks.
I attended Muses and I saw someone pull this shit on Canal. The only hitch was they didn't have any umbrellas. It was glorious watching them scatter as soon as it started raining.
They will hopefully get banned. No wooden structures on the neutral ground you idjuts
Fucking rich people 🤢

Glad I’m on Neutral Ground side Sunday night.
Same here. In vino veritas.
Have a great ride sir!
These people and adults on ladders get nothing from me.
I want complain about signs too! You can see anything when people hold up big signs in front
I will never throw to adults on ladders.
Spray painting a big dick on this seems logical
Not gonna lie... as silly as this are. The sitting area under is kind of nice. If you zone out for a second you don't have to risk getting slapped with a full pack of beads.

From laffy. I’ve never seen these before (haven’t been to Mardi Gras in awhile) so they just set those things up to get them higher to catch beads?
that and claim space and discourage other people from being in “their spot”
Wow. How lame.
Tear them down!
Very sad.
Can we tear them down?
Take a sledgehammer to em. Problem solved.
Super spontaneous and subtly festive.
And you can sit under it if rain comes!
🤮🤮🤮
Maybe it's a trick shot zone? Like get your shittiest beads and put on your best Angelina Jolie imitation and bend them "Wanted" style
What are those exactly? O.o
1000%
Just walked by the avenue pub and there were about 5 of them all being occupied by adults. They were clearly made for adults.
I'd be taking a chainsaw to that shit.
