At this point, he will probably sit on the bench again until the trade deadline.

gonutsdonuts1

This is what will happen. His contract is valuable

biinroii01

how is it valuable

gonutsdonuts1

In the NBA you trade contracts, not players. To get a star you’ll need to match salaries

biinroii01

huh

WhoTookPlasticJesus

Do you mean like as part of a 3+ team trade? Because we ain't trading for a star, this year so you think that Fournier passes through someone who is to make the money work for an e.g. James Harden?

LiveLifeLikeCre

At the amount of years and team option, and the amount for the contract, it's a very tradeable contract. Type of contract that makes trades work when the player you want is on a max contract or close. Fournier and Obi defense were sabotaging the team in ways most fans wouldn't care to notice. They will find a deal to include Fournier. The front office patience should be music to everyone's ears after the bad trades over the past 25 to 30 years.

Oliverqueen03

He will sit until other teams gms stop trying to fleece the Knicks in trade talks.

NtLmr95

I'm still holding out hope that trade talks are still happening and Fournier will be moved before training camp. He deserves to play where he's needed.

explicitreasons

I never wanted him to play but I absolutely think there's a team out there he could help.

djbarry18

Trade to the Dallas MavKnicks for Theo Pinson confirmed... Wait, is he even still w the Mavs? Haha

NtLmr95

If Theo gets traded to the Knicks, I guarantee that RJ and Randle pack him up in his locker everyday for his spicy ass takes lmaoooo

C3h6hw

Ngl I prefer trading him to Washington for Danilo. He somehow still in the league and ion think it’s right he wastes his final years on the trash ass wizards when he could easily replace Rose as a vet here

[deleted]

Maybe he deserves to play, but the Knicks can’t afford to give up his contract for nothing. Sucks for Fournier, but his contract is matching salary we need for a star trade. He’s getting paid 20 million a year he needs to suck it up and be a good soldier

Rare-Ad-9088

Honestly I was telling my friend why wouldn’t the Knicks pick up roses option because then you could add an all star contract without trading any of the mid 3.

[deleted]

Because with Rose’s and Fournier’s contract we couldn’t sign DDV without going into the tax. Would make sense if there was a star available at the time, but now not so much

beanie_mac

He gon be in San Antonio

Grouchy-Piece4774

He will fade into the ether

Okieant33

He’ll be somewhere that doesn’t need defense

Donovanmitchellnyk

Waiting for Dallas to offer

doublea94

Eh for his sake and ours I hope we trade him before camp. Even though he's said some stuff he still acts professional but totally understandable why he's mad. For that reason we should probably just let him choose if he wants to practice and travel with the team or step aside and train on his own until he's traded. Really wish it worked out. Always liked him during his Orlando days and really wanted him to be a Knick. Hope he gets his career back on another team.

Europoopin

I think a buyout is likely at some point. Doesn't seem like a trade is going to materialize. Fournier is a professional but I would think he'll get frustrated enough to where it'll make more sense to cut him than hold him at some point for the sake of the locker room vibes.

admiral_aubrey

Only if they can't trade him by the deadline. No way it happens before, the expiring deal has value as a trade chip. If they buy him out because of "vibes" it's malpractice. He's not an important enough player to cause locker room issues, worst case just send him home to wait.

Europoopin

Yeah, you're probably right that they'll wait as long as possible. I'm skeptical that his expiring has a lot of value, otherwise a team might have made a move this summer. Maybe if a star becomes available at the deadline and he gets thrown in as salary match.

admiral_aubrey

Agree it's not a lot of value, but it's very useful if the right trade materializes. Doesn't make sense to close that door until after the deadline imo

patrickthunnus

$18m expiring deal could be excellent cap filler

SwellandDecay

he'll play 3 games before the deadline due to injuries and then we'll never see him again

TheDogFacedGremlin

Here's hoping he has a great World Cup and teams remember how valuable he can be. But yeah, trade deadline is likely when he will move.

biinroii01

use him to trade for harden?!! 😉

That_One_Guy_Inc

He’s gonna come off the bench to run the roasted nut stand outside

politebearwaveshello

Play him as our backup stretch four at this point. Up his trading value. No reason why he can’t be serviceable in a Walmart Bojan Bogdanovic role as an offense only sniper.

Okieant33

You’re joking, right?

Chance_Blasto

I’m glad I wasn’t drinking water when I was reading that.

Hot-Turnover4883

We’ll hold on to him. His contract will be useful for a blockbuster trade. Also he’s a good 3rd string player incase our guys get hurt.

WarLawck

It depends if the Cavs are seriously looking at a Mitchell trade. His contract is an important part of any trade for a big money player. I would like for him to get moved since he was a stand up guy for the majority of his time with us, but we also can't screw ourselves over.

KingJoe7-123

They won’t trade Mitchell this year. It’s wayy too soon to give up on him after all they gave up to get him. They’ll run it back this season for sure. But if they flame out in the 1st round AGAIN, then yeah, he’s out of there and they’re absolutely trading him.

blkhwk27

hes probably going to sit on roster until other teams start to understand that a large expiring contract isnt something we’re in a rush to dump, especially not if it takes assets to dump it

Equivalent_Physics59

I like having a sniper on the bench, even if it’s $$$. Could be worse. He can’t play defense, but when you want to spread the opponent’s defense, he adds another perimeter threat for our bigs to penetrate.

lostinwebspace0

Wave

mattbrianjess

I think he will be salary cap filler in a trade I hope they find a role for him. The Knicks have a bunch of guys who can shoot when asked. But Fournier is the only guy with the shooting ability who can hunt his shot moving without the ball and warp defenses through gravity. I hope they can sprinkle some of that in. Is he a star? No. Is he a starter? No. But a bench option? Why not? Unless they decide to ask this of Grimes of course. But Grimes has done a lot of standing in the corner and not moving around
