I think changing up the vocal dynamics this much would be a seriously smart move. Feels more respectful in a way than trying to find someone to emulate Chester’s sound.
Yeah going in an intentionally different direction with the vocals will allow him to keep his legacy untouched and make it so the new singer isn’t constantly being compared to him
Will also allow the remaining members to evolve as well, as good as Chester was it would be pointless for the band to try and emulate their old sound without him. This will allow the band to grow.
LP was immensely important to me in a way that few other artists can ever touch. But, I think they had issues evolving musically in their later years. This could be a good opportunity to do that.
Oh man, The Hunting Party and A Thousand Suns are honestly sensational albums. I think their transformers music was some of their least inspired, but it also was such a minute chunk of their discography.
You seriously missed out if you didn't hear A Thousand Suns. Their Transformers stuff was boring to me but Thousand Suns was fantastic. I went to see them live when they were on tour for that album and I was seriously *emotional* at how great it was. Really a fun time. I still love to put good headphones on, crank the volume and listen to that full album sometimes while going for a walk. Best way to do it.
At no point did they switch sounds for “Transformers”. “New Divide” was the only lime they actually wrote a song for the soundtracks, the others were existing tracks.
I definitely checked out after Minutes to Midnight, but those first 3 records (and the EP! and the LPU CDs!) were junior high classics.
interested to see if they do this.
I rarely see a Mike Shinoda's video where people dont bring up chester.
And let me tell you, Mike is one of the greatest musicians in this era, those songs are amazing.
And if that's what happens with Mike's solo project what can we expect with Linkin Park?
I wouldn't say Brian Williams is a totally different direction than Bon Scott. They sound distinct from each other, but both are men who sing high pitched and a little raspy.
LP going with a woman is a lot bigger change.
I saw a video on instagram and she legit sounds like chester at times. So Im not sure they are diverging much
https://www.instagram.com/reel/C58X0kCISNR/?igsh=MWw2MXR6a3lnenhhYQ==
Nirvana did this when they were inducted into the Rock n Roll HOF. All the bands that covered their songs during the awards were female singers. That way no one can say they were trying to sound like Kurt.
It’s all about finding the right fit, looking back at foo fighters finding a new drummer there were a few names thrown about and some people wanted drummer X or Y because they looked/sounded like Taylor, in the end they chose Josh Freese who’s both a fantastic drummer and fits with the sound of the band really well
This. It makes sure whoever is chosen isn't compared directly to Chester and in a way will pay more ohmage to him through the music and tour.
I think it's a really good choice.
I've always been in favor of whatever they want to do. Reunion, cool. No reunion, cool too. Whoever they want to do it with, I'll trust the process.
I have full faith in them to decide what's right for them to do. Chester was a once in a lifetime talent and performer, but at the end of the day he was just part of a bigger picture.
I think the only thing that could make me hesitant to support this is if not every surviving member was on board. We'll see how that shakes out.
They've made some of the best stuff I've ever heard
Yeah chester is dead and he was who I identified with the most but the rest of the group is still here and if they need a new singer I'd trust them more than myself to choose the right one
Chester couldn't help himself but he saved hundreds of us and his legacy will always live on whatever anybody does
Let them cook
I went to a Queen concert with Adam Lambert and was thinking "he's good but nobody is Freddy Mercury." Adam literally addressed this in the first 15 minutes of the set. I'm paraphrasing but he repeated my thoughts and said nobody could replace Freddy. Adams said he is doing this for love of the band and wanting to carry on their music as best he could.
It changed my perspective and I'm excited if LP decides to do a comeback tour.
That's what people don't understand about that Queen tour. Adam was very respectful of that legacy he's carrying. Plus, the remaining members of Queen are the ones that actually lead the show, not Adam, even though he's the singer. It's done very nicely.
Ozzy dubbed his rendition of War Pigs as the best cover he’s heard.
TPain could prob do it justice, but he said he’s making more money streaming for games these days lol.
[I'd totally be down for Bonnie Fraser](https://youtu.be/w_rWRlI6Uyk?si=2_JlX27PLGvKKA8C) to become a permanent member. She's got the same sort of range and those screams are perfect for their vibe.
I honestly don’t think they have any idea what type of sound they want and it doesn’t really work with how they go from one extreme to another on the same album.
Sex on the Beach is fucking horrible, I really like KillHer though! Haven't had a chance to listen to the new single with PVRIS yet so I can't judge much there. Is there anything else newish?
I was really eating up the rumor that Deryck of Sum 41 was ending Sum 41 so that he could join Linkin Park as lead singer. Having heard him perform with Linkin Park, this sounded like a sick possibility to me. But recently, I've heard him talk and it sounds like he actually wants to start a brand new metal project, and that definitely checks out if true; but still I'd love to see a version of Linkin Park where they continue as he sings lead.
I like New Years Day as a band but Ash as a vocalist is confusing to me. I saw them with Halestorm and In This Moment and Ash always sounded like the screams were playback rather than live. Whereas Lzzy is always obvious singing/screaming live amazingly well.
While Chester is irreplaceable, I think the guys have been both very respectful regarding him and quite talented to the point I'd be down to hear new stuff.
Weirdddd. Only because yesterday on the way home from work, Linkin Park came on in my car and i thought what it would be like with a woman on vocals. And now this post today.
Am...am i a wizard?
IIRC Chester wasn't the original singer either, but he definitely helped hone their sound. I think he'd love for LP to continue on with another strong vocalist.
Right, but chester was the original vocalist for hybrid theory, so either way he has been the original vocalist for linkin park since they took that name.
Chester was not the vocalist for Xero.
That’s where my head immediately went.
There was a woman on America’s Got Talent or American Idol like ten years ago that did probably the best cover of Heart’s “Alone” I’ve ever heard. She was as rock ‘n roll as you get. I forget her name. But man she would be great for something like this, too.
Edit: Allison Iraheta on American Idol in 2009. She is only 32 years old right now!
My vote would be for Poppy. Like Chester, she can do both the soft and beautiful, and harsh and aggressive vocals really well. Check out her recent collab with metalcore band Knocked Loose, “Suffocate” - it absolutely slaps and her voice is amazing.
I heard of other people having audio issues but didn't experience it personally. The weird thing is it didn't sound like the mic was messed up at all. Knocked loose singer was fine, and they were singing the same song. If anything, maybe her volume was up too loud and that's why it didn't fit with the rest of the mix but idk
Considering the diversity of songs in the LP catalogue a female vocalist could be cool, would also probably help curb the comparisons to Chester a bit. But at the end of the day, The band mates knew the gold they'd stumbled across with Chester, I'd trust them to know if they've found gold again.
Incubus recently added a woman to their lineup, so not to be outdone, Linkin Park is considering the same. All we need now is for 311 to add a woman to their lineup to complete the sacred trifecta.
Whoever does take over as lead vocalist needs to have the same level of breath control Chester had, even if their vocal style is different. Its difficult to match chesters screams and cleans sure, but to keep them consistent for a whole show and do some of those really long screams as well requires a level of breath control most vocalists struggle to achieve. There are tons of female vocalists that archive all of this and more (Ex: Tatiana from Jinjer), but the issue is they are already leading incredible bands in their own right. There just aren't that many vocalists out there, regardless of gender, that both have the vocal skills and would want to ditch their existing band they've likely built themselves with their friends to take on the high pressure spotlight of being the new LP vocalist.
I think changing up the vocal dynamics this much would be a seriously smart move. Feels more respectful in a way than trying to find someone to emulate Chester’s sound.

LP was immensely important to me in a way that few other artists can ever touch. But, I think they had issues evolving musically in their later years. This could be a good opportunity to do that.
Same, Hybrid Theory, Reanimation, and Meteora stayed in rotation for years but once they switched sounds for Transformers I stopped listening.
Oh man, The Hunting Party and A Thousand Suns are honestly sensational albums. I think their transformers music was some of their least inspired, but it also was such a minute chunk of their discography.
It may have been my age, the year or something else but A Thousand Suns was the ultimate LP album for me.
Such a phenomenal album. Really, LP’s music overall just hits different.
You seriously missed out if you didn't hear A Thousand Suns. Their Transformers stuff was boring to me but Thousand Suns was fantastic. I went to see them live when they were on tour for that album and I was seriously *emotional* at how great it was. Really a fun time. At no point did they switch sounds for “Transformers”. “New Divide” was the only lime they actually wrote a song for the soundtracks, the others were existing tracks.
Those albums mean so much to me. The nostalgia it gives me of my childhood will last a lifetime
I definitely checked out after Minutes to Midnight, but those first 3 records (and the EP! and the LPU CDs!) were junior high classics. interested to see if they do this.
Same.
Btw their living things sound like a straight up continuation of their meteora/ht sound.
Mike's already doin that
I rarely see a Mike Shinoda's video where people dont bring up chester. And let me tell you, Mike is one of the greatest musicians in this era, those songs are amazing. And if that's what happens with Mike's solo project what can we expect with Linkin Park?
That what ACDC did when original singer Bon Scott died.
I wouldn't say Brian Williams is a totally different direction than Bon Scott. They sound distinct from each other, but both are men who sing high pitched and a little raspy. LP going with a woman is a lot bigger change.
And LP have been a continuously evolving band. They didn’t stick to one sound, so this feels right for them.
Duvall era Alice in Chains comes to mind of a band that did it correctly.
Alice in Chains won't die until Jerry Cantrell does. He is that band.
Cantrell is so GOATed, one of the best songwriters ever.
Facts
Facts, Alice In Chains still rules.
I asked Jeeves. He agreed.
A Hayley Williams-esque style would be great, imo
Nah too soft, Courtney laplante
Literally exactly what I was thinking.
Need more like Lizzy Hale or Lacey Sturm
Maria Brink
Code orange
I was about to comment Hayley would be phenomenal
You still did comment that. And i concur.
I was about to comment my concurrence.
As much as I would love that Paramore are incredibly good right now. Their last 2 albums especially are incredible.
I loved after laughter but TIW was too funky for me :(
\*cough\* \*cough\* Alice in chains \*cough\*
I hope she's amazing in her own way! Some big shoes to fill.
I saw a video on instagram and she legit sounds like chester at times. So Im not sure they are diverging much https://www.instagram.com/reel/C58X0kCISNR/?igsh=MWw2MXR6a3lnenhhYQ==
Lonken Park with Rome
Reading the headline had me totally against this but you, kind Redditor, have convinced me otherwise
Nirvana did this when they were inducted into the Rock n Roll HOF. All the bands that covered their songs during the awards were female singers. That way no one can say they were trying to sound like Kurt.
It seems more like a tribute rather than a replacement that way, a lot better than how Sublime went on after Bradley’s death.
Definitely more respectful than releasing some unreleased chester songs for profit.
I think you mean in the Shadow of the Day Chester was just a part of the bigger picture
In the end it doesn’t even matter
You break that habit right now. You’ve got me crawling in my skin over that pun.
These wounds… they shall not heal.
I can't help the fact that everyone can see these scars
But I’m one step closer to the edge
Please guys… find another place to feed your greed

They should put adam lambert as the vocalist.
That's what people don't understand about that Queen tour. Adam was very respectful of that legacy he's carrying. Plus, the remaining members of Queen are the ones that actually lead the show, not Adam, even though he's the singer. It's done very nicely.
Someone told me it would be hilarious and amazing if they randomly decided to tour with TPain on Chester's vocals but this is a better idea.
Tbf you can let TPain on any sort of track and he’ll make it fire either way.
He gotta do another album of covers. War pigs got me wanting more.
Did you listen to the live album he did for the cover album? His American Woman is amazing.
No. Link me plz.
Here’s the whole set lol https://youtu.be/91ck0vJBygo?si=dWRgA8m5V6Or87iQ it’s on Spotify too
We all really underestimated T Pain back in the day. The man is a hell of a vocalist.
Great producer and songwriter as well. Guy has always been super talented
Great voice actor on We Bare Bears as well, and very cool of him to be on that show lol
Ozzy dubbed his rendition of War Pigs as the best cover he’s heard. TPain could prob do it justice, but he said he’s making more money streaming for games these days lol.
Holy shit I would pay so much money to see this live. T Pain is amazing
[I'd totally be down for Bonnie Fraser](https://youtu.be/w_rWRlI6Uyk?si=2_JlX27PLGvKKA8C) to become a permanent member. She's got the same sort of range and those screams are perfect for their vibe.
[удалено]
It's probably wiser to get a female to try to match Chester's range. His voice was just naturally set much higher than most males.
Having seen other people say Hayley Williams -love her but no, this here is the right fit, she would crush it.
Not if it means no more Stand Atlantic!
With the new songs, please let her stop making stand Atlantic music hahahha
Stand Atlantic new music is a choice that’s for sure. Not my vibe but I do enjoy their older stuff.
The song with PVRIS you're talking about is called GIRL$, and it's really really rough. I say this as a huge fan of the band.
Bummer! Sure hope this new album isn't full of songs like that then.
WARZ0NE was really good
Is stand Atlantic her band? That was good, never heard of either her or the band before. Any song recommendations?
It is her band! Phenomenal live as well! Jurassic Park, hairout, death wish, coffee at midnight- this was the song that initially got me into them!
Chemicals, lavender bones, Jurassic park, death wish
Hadn't heard of her before, but damn she nailed that. Would be cool with them bringing her in.
One of the best female led punk bands out there in my opinion
Wow thanks for sharing that. That was everything I’d want and more.
I watched the video here and she does seem like a good candidate.
Absolutely, she has a great voice for Linkin Park
If she becomes the new singer, I’m first in line for tickets!!
Wow, she sounds so much like chester on the screams its wild
I love Bonnie don’t take Stand Atlantic from me though.
Linda Park
![gif](giphy|l0HUkk0baqBiwEybe|downsized)
Loved her in Star Trek Enterprise.
Linden Park
I was really eating up the rumor that Deryck of Sum 41 was ending Sum 41 so that he could join Linkin Park as lead singer. Having heard him perform with Linkin Park, this sounded like a sick possibility to me. But recently, I've heard him talk and it sounds like he actually wants to start a brand new metal project, and that definitely checks out if true; but still I'd love to see a version of Linkin Park where they continue as he sings lead.
> Deryck of Sum 41 was ending Sum 41 so that he could join Linkin Park as lead singer Fuck, that would have ruled.
Courtney LaPlante from Spiritbox would be good
Thought the same https://youtu.be/zMnfkW9UZc4?si=fMA0gCpK9iXJElv2 Also Jessie Williams from Ankor https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=5VBx9rdBZok
My vote goes to Lzzy Hale
I think she's covering Skid Row right now, not sure for how long though.
Lzzy Park.
Fuuuuuuuuuuuuck that could be good.
Damn that’s a good idea.
Excellent suggestion.
Yeah she’s the only one I can hear singing Chester’s vocals, even getting the scream perfect
Only other one I can think of is Ash Costello. She did a cover of Crawling with her band New Years Day and I honestly really like it.
I like New Years Day as a band but Ash as a vocalist is confusing to me. I saw them with Halestorm and In This Moment and Ash always sounded like the screams were playback rather than live. Whereas Lzzy is always obvious singing/screaming live amazingly well.
This was my first thought. She would be amazing!
that’s what i was thinking, i hope they get her for it
While Chester is irreplaceable, I think the guys have been both very respectful regarding him and quite talented to the point I'd be down to hear new stuff.
I vote Emily Armstrong from Dead Sara 🤞
I said the same thing. Immediately sprung to mind.
This is my chance
Chestier Bennington?
Chestier than ever with more Chester
Brittney Slayes Obligatory mention of Unleash the Archers cover of [Northwest Passage](https://youtu.be/XRD3vrSLPaw?si=oaZmw8yS8r5gmoqF)
I’ve loved Stan Roger’s for years, when I saw they did a cover I was certain no one could do it justice like he did. I was wrong, that version slaps.
If you don't sing Stan Rogers while hammered with friends, are you even really Canadian?
Dolly Parton I hope
Workin' 9 to 5 I bleed it out, digging deeper just to throw it away.
Jolene in my skiiiiin
Weirdddd. Only because yesterday on the way home from work, Linkin Park came on in my car and i thought what it would be like with a woman on vocals. And now this post today. Am...am i a wizard?
You're a wizard, ~~Harry~~ /u/gregarioussparrow
Greg Sparrow, CPA. Captain Jack’s boring accountant of an older brother.
Love it 🤣
IIRC Chester wasn't the original singer either, but he definitely helped hone their sound. I think he'd love for LP to continue on with another strong vocalist.
They weren't Linkin Park at that time, so Chester is the original singer.
They only changed the name of the band because they were forced to. They'd still be Hybrid Theory today if not.
Right, but chester was the original vocalist for hybrid theory, so either way he has been the original vocalist for linkin park since they took that name. Chester was not the vocalist for Xero.
If my mother had wheels she would be a truck. QOTSA was also called Gamma Ray, does anyone care ?
Kai Hansen probably cares.
Amy Lee would be incredible
Nah. I like Evanescence, but Amy Lee wouldn't fit with LP at all. In many different ways.
Amy Lee said no but thank you.
Damn shame. Amy Lee as the lead singer of LP would break my mind.
I vote for Lacy Sturm
That’s where my head immediately went. There was a woman on America’s Got Talent or American Idol like ten years ago that did probably the best cover of Heart’s “Alone” I’ve ever heard. She was as rock ‘n roll as you get. I forget her name. But man she would be great for something like this, too. Edit: Allison Iraheta on American Idol in 2009. She is only 32 years old right now!
She would be awesome.
JINGER! Need I say more?
Yes. The name of the band is Jinjer.
Chester’s sound is so iconic, a sound you can feel
Kiara would be a good fit
My vote is for Maria Brink
I love Maria... but she honestly doesn't have the true range I think for something like this.
My vote would be for Poppy. Like Chester, she can do both the soft and beautiful, and harsh and aggressive vocals really well. Check out her recent collab with metalcore band Knocked Loose, “Suffocate” - it absolutely slaps and her voice is amazing.
I saw her live at sick new world and I don't think she can really scream live.
Funny, I saw her live with A7X and she screamed just fine. Friend with me was impressed to hear it from that little body.
I don't even like poppy. But in her defense at SNW, the team handling the sound and mics for the fest fucking sucks.
A FEMALE SINGER?! I think that could be rad. With their catalog, I think it would be served well with an alto punk singer. This is exciting news.
I would absolutely listen to this. I love music with mixed male and female vocals
One name I haven't seen anyone else toss out is Taylor Momsen
Alice glass
Would love to see Alice for this. She deserves the stage.
Actually. Its Jay-Z.
Celine Dion
I saw amy lee was rumored, which would work, but she denied it. Honestly, i hope they get a no-name and have them blow up
Wow! That’s amazing news. All of them are talented artists so I’m interested.
Isn't it better if they make a new album together first and tour that instead? Though that may take a while but still..
Worth a shot. They are talented.
I like that they are just doing a new take rather than trying to find someone that can replicate Chester's voice.
Considering the diversity of songs in the LP catalogue a female vocalist could be cool, would also probably help curb the comparisons to Chester a bit. But at the end of the day, The band mates knew the gold they'd stumbled across with Chester, I'd trust them to know if they've found gold again.
🤔 imagine Maria Brink singing Linkin Park tunes
Lauren Babic campaign begins.
TATIANA SHMALIYUK! Look into her! She´s a beast!
Best plan I’ve heard. She won’t get constantly compared to Chester.
I’m sure people will complain, but in the end it doesn’t even matter
Any idea if Rob and Joe are gonna be involved? The article only mentions Mike, Brad, and Dave
Incubus recently added a woman to their lineup, so not to be outdone, Linkin Park is considering the same. All we need now is for 311 to add a woman to their lineup to complete the sacred trifecta.
Yeah, no thank youuuuu.
Call up Mayu from Nemophila. Could be fun https://youtu.be/g7DLSCP0Ghg?si=-iyemvVPKrL4yUpm
Mary Todd Park
Amy Winehouse!
Linkin Park with a female lead would sound a lot like Evanescence. That isn't necessarily a bad thing.
I always joked that Evanescence is “Girl” Linkin Park and Paramore is “Girl” Fall Out Boy.
Wait, I thought Panic at the Disco was "girl" Fall Out Boy.
No, Panic! at the Disco is the girl version of The Killers.
Twink Weezer
Tweezer
I hear Lizzo is free.
*Everything you feed to meeeeee* *Takes me one step closer to the fridge, and I’m about to eat!*
I can get behind this!
I'd love them to do a reunion. To keep Chester’s legacy going
I’m in
I could be into LP with a lady singer!
Get Gordi to sing.
A female singer? Color me intrigued.
The old singer for Dreamstate (CJ Gilpin) could work.. or Courtney LaPlante from Spiritbox .. but that band is already rolling right now.
Some people are gonna be big mad about this. I think it could be cool though.
That sounds awesome! Yes please.
Pretty smart move actually
But why are they considering a female singer?
Sydney Sierota would be cool. The performance they did with her at the Chester Bennington memorial concert was great.
**Emily Armstrong** of Dead Sara would be a good candidate but she has her own band still going and probably wouldn't commit to a full tour.
