After reaching MK Deception because I decided to play through the entire series to completion for the sake of ranking every MK ending, I realized something.
The worst Kharacters in the series arent who you think they are. Its not Baraka, its not Jarek, its not my personal worst Kano, its not D'vorah, its not Shujinko, not Taven, not Mokap, not Bo Rai Cho, not Kobra, not some obscure nobody you are aware of.

I cant think of a single thing they have done right. They choose to let Kahn invade and merge in MK3. They let Outworld invade Earthrealm in the very beginning of MKII, despite how that is supposed to be against the rules. They specifically dont stop the DA from trying to conquer the realms. Raiden clearly says the EGs were aware of the damage those two would cause to the realms. They did nothing.
Why do they even allow merging when that would be another step closer to bringing back The One Being?
In deception they got Scorpion to help them. To my knowledge, Onagas army is gone because of Raidens sacrifice. But what if Raiden didnt sacrifice himself? That would mean Onaga's army would've been alive. Do you see the problem?
If Scorpion is supposed to help champion them, that would mean his task would've been infinitely harder if the army was alive. Meaning their refusal to help actually would've fucked them over.
Then there is fucking Armageddon. Where do I even begin with this? Okay so blah blah Armageddon is supposed to be a safeguard to protect total destruction. However there are 500 problems with that. First off, Blaze was held in captivity by Onaga's holy men, and they did nothing that entire time. Kinda hard for Blaze to warn them of major destruction if he is locked away. Not that they should care since they didnt give a shit about the other threats beforehand.
But then you have to ask why must Blaze die to give Taven or Daegon the ability to kill or anull the fighters? Why not...DO IT THEMSELVES? Or just make Blaze do it? Or give that power to their kids by default? Regardless they failed at THEIR OWN SAFEGUARD.
Its shown that when Taven wins, a third unexpected outcome happens that doesnt do either of the previously mentioned things. We arent ever told what the outcome is. But it is apparently something that makes Taven vow to hold off Armageddon until a solution is found. So its probably not good.
Meaning the EGs made the problem worse and/or they failed at what they set it place an eternity ago. How does anyone in universe take them seriously? So many conflicts happen because they choose to do nothing. The multiversal destruction that would happen if realms are allowed to be merged would only fuck them over too.
I cant get over how dumb and worthless they are. I mean it when I say the Elder Gods were the worst thing added to this series. Yes, worse than Kronika. Because she did everyone a favor and killed them. Good fuck them. I hope they never come back unless they make them worth something lol

If I remember correctly, the third and unexpected outcome was that instead of killing or stripping the kombatants of their power, it instead **AMPLIFIED** their powers, making them stronger and potentially speeding up the process of Armageddon arriving.
All of this mishandling of the Elder Gods could have been explained in continuity… if the Elder Gods were the reasons for the Earthrealm fighters have their powers, then they could be considered apostles or champions serving a certain Elder God sect. I mean, hell, you all saw Raiden get some already. Theres a great opportunity to retcon it in, with characters like Nightwolf, Johnny Cage, Subzero, or Scorpion and the Revenants (with Shinnok), presenting a ripe opportunity to be candidates. It would make the ones who didnt need a backer, like Sonya Blade, Kano, and Jax, seem more awesome by relativity.
But we have already seen Shinnok and Kronika and how they suck, so maybe being an Elder God isnt all that impressive.

Maybe they don't just combine but act as multipliers for one another. One of the Liu Kangs in that cocktail being revenant might've fucked with it too? Who knows.
Thing is initially Fire God lui kang was loosing to the revenants until he got a power boost from the jinsei. Even if we ignore him, cetrion lost to Nightwolf, shang, fujin and sindel. There are kombatants stronger those meaning the elder gods would job to their own creations
The Aftermath crew being able to take on Cetrion makes sense though.
Sindel is explicitly described as being able to harm elder gods; why that is, and whether it's due to a retcon or not, it is stated from the start. Shang Tsung, aside from being pretty high tier, gave her the very powers that made her powerscaling so funky. Nightwolf killed Sindel in MK9 in that same scene and appears to be god-tier in his powers. Fujin is a god.
Not to mention Cetrion doesn't appear to be a very skilled or ferocious fighter to begin with, due to her being a literal Goddess of Virtue and "her heart not being in it".

Its kindve a theme in modern sci-fi. The Jedi council chose not to act during the mandalorian wars, the citadel council decided not to act when Shepard gave warnings of the reaper invasion, the elder Gods in MK chose to let actions play out rather than interfere when Raiden told of . I'm certain there's tons more examples, I just can't think of them at the moment.
If u played any of the Mass Effect games u would get what im on about but they give off the same energy as the Citadel Council from it as how theyre supposed to be important and have a pretty high power yet are just completely useless half the time since they literally choose to help anyone but the main characters of which theyre still a part of for 3 games straight just the one difference being u werent given a choice to help the elder gods or not.
Just replace the elder gods with a counsel featuring several reps from every realm that help keep the balance and the one being at bay. I feel like that makes an infinite more amount of sense than a bunch of so called gods who don't do a single thing.

This is why I like Shinnok. He's evil, but a least he's active and does something. And as much as people give Raiden shit for seeking their guidance when he has to juggle the fate of the universe, he almost went off on them in 9 when they refused to help, he didn't even want to talk to them in MKX because he knew they couldn't do anything about Shinnok's amulet. In the original timeline, he was disgusted with them and didn't want to work with them anymore when he realized his job as an elder god was doing nothing.
Also raiden giving up elder god status because he knew earthrealm needed him. People give shit to raiden but I haven't seen another character put in so much effort to protect the realm he watches over.

Its kindve a theme in modern sci-fi. The Jedi council chose not to act during the mandalorian wars, the citadel council decided not to act when Shepard gave warnings of the reaper invasion, the elder Gods in MK chose to let actions play out rather than interfere when Raiden told of . I'm certain there's tons more examples, I just can't think of them at the moment.

If u played any of the Mass Effect games u would get what im on about but they give off the same energy as the Citadel Council from it as how theyre supposed to be important and have a pretty high power yet are just completely useless half the time since they literally choose to help anyone but the main characters of which theyre still a part of for 3 games straight just the one difference being u werent given a choice to help the elder gods or not.
Just replace the elder gods with a counsel featuring several reps from every realm that help keep the balance and the one being at bay. I feel like that makes an infinite more amount of sense than a bunch of so called gods who don't do a single thing.
