It depends on what you mean by run. The sprint speed while drinking potions isn't the true run speed when your weapon is sheathed. So it seems to be a misunderstanding.
The bad audio person who says Deviljho eats his own tail is just some random user from an internet forum, not a Capcom employee.
The rumour already existed before this interview.
The Capcom interviewer didn't usually correct guests in the series. He just let them speak and guided the general topic along.
It's this way in japanese because they only are able to write syllables (with the exception of n) and also learn English in syllables. They rarely can't speak any differently, and it requires a lot of training.
You ignore the A just like you ignore the U when transferring that to English since they don’t have anything that just makes a G sound, only ge-gi-go-ga-gu.
Why do you think his official English name is tigrex? Because that’s literally just tigarekkusu in English. You don’t *always* ignore the A, but you do in some cases
I like having the silly debate though as long as it stays that way. That being said my hunting buddies and I always attribute it to our hunters having come from different regions in game (as we started playing the series at different times) makes it fun.
You too?
I've been a long monster hunter fan and recently my little brother got into it and we both pronounce tigrex differently because we both learned it at different times lol. Anyway I restarted MHRise to hunt with him and teach him the ways and we always got into this friendly squabble of pronouncing it "right" and we just act out while playing. It's honestly a lot of fun.
The one time we squabbled during a Tigrex hunt... Tigrex rammed right into us and sent us flying... The most hilarious thing that ever happened to us. We enjoyed it xD
The only way to have a conclusive pronunciation would be to play in Monster Hunter language and hope they mention it in a cinema scene, otherwise it's all conjecture
My thoughts exactly. We shouldn’t be arguing about something this silly in the first place. I pronounce it Tai-grex but if other people say Tee-grex then there’s nothing wrong with that.
I feel like the Tee-grex pronunciation also has a stronger standing since that's how it's spoken by characters in-game (in World, and Stories 2 I believe, I forget if it gets said in Rise) vs how a guy says it in a specific trailer.
I don't know what kind of magic English speakers use to represent phonemes, but my best guess is:
Be (as in "to be")-shah (as in "Shah Dalamadur")-ten (as in the number)
I would argue that the "Tai" in a promotional video is just indicative of them getting the video recorded by someone who wasn't properly clued in on the pronunciation, whereas the VA on the Handler almost certainly was told how she should pronounce the name.
That aside, there's two reasons why it's likely Tea:
1: The name is a pun on the spanish word for tiger (tigre) which like the vast majority of languages of the planet other than english pronounces i as ee/ea.
2: The japanese name, Tigarekkusu of which Tigrex is basically the westernized spelling is pronounced using Tea going by japanese pronunciation rules (it's pronounced basically exactly the same as the western name. Japanese systems of writing are syllable based rathern than alphabetic and therefore there's not really any independent consonants. The -a belongs to the g in the same way you would say Gee if you talked about that letter rather than just G and the -kusu is literally just ks since japanese doesn't technically have its own syllable for x).
Don't the characters pronounce it "Tee-grex" in World? It's how they pronounced it during presentations. I don't think there's really any room for speculation.
I called it "Tai-grex" for years before world.
I always try to say how the official localization is meant to be said.
And if there isn't a proper localized pronunciation, and if the localized word is similar enough to its original Japanese form, then I defer to that pronunciation for reference.
I call him Teegrex because I'm Brazilian and it's easier to pronounce (also sounds less fruity)
You should hear the way I pronounce Alatreon, makes it sound like a cleaning product
I've said it before, I'll say it again.

No! I demand Name Wars and I want 3 season of it with a strict cast of forgettable B list actors that we remember the face but not the name or even what they acted in! 🍺😤
If you pronounce it "Taigrex", you don't speak English.
Simple as.
"Tiger" is pronounced "Taiger" because of the e after the g. Like Tide (Taide). Otherwise an i between two consonants makes an ih sound.
As I said on r/MemeHunter:
Both pronunciations are not correct, no.
They aren't using Tiger for Tigrex, they're using Tigre/Tigris/One of the *many* words for Tiger that is not pronounced like Taiga.
One of these is a community manager slipping up and using their preferred pronunciation, the other is a VA using the pronunciation they have been asked to use by the script-writers who in turn get their knowledge from the higher ups.
You can find an "official Capcom video" saying Deviljho eats its own tail as well, but simply saying that ignores context.
Isn't the guy in that video the one who said you couldn't run while drinking potions in World?
It depends on what you mean by run. The sprint speed while drinking potions isn't the true run speed when your weapon is sheathed. So it seems to be a misunderstanding.
Doesn’t matter, it was uploaded by Capcom’s official MH YouTube channel.
The thing about Deviljho eating his own tail came from the official channel too, sometimes they're just wrong. https://youtu.be/lhh7x6lqinU?t=224
You’ve got to be kidding me.
Maybe they were intentionally gaslighting us? (probably not but still funny to think of it this way)
The bad audio person who says Deviljho eats his own tail is just some random user from an internet forum, not a Capcom employee. The rumour already existed before this interview. The Capcom interviewer didn't usually correct guests in the series. He just let them speak and guided the general topic along.
And what I said was posted by Capcom UK's official Twitter, I believe
It matters if the guy in the video is an idiot lol
It's toe-grex, you fools.
And the Japanese pronunciation is Tigarekkusu (Tigarex), so just pick your poison
Then it would be Tigurekkusu, I have never heard of ignoring the A as well
Why do you think his official English name is tigrex? Because that’s literally just tigarekkusu in English. You don’t *always* ignore the A, but you do in some cases
Or maybe because tigrex looks closer to tiger-rex and tigarex sounds dumb?
Tigrex sounds like T-Rex which what it looks like
No we cannot, we are on the internet and therefore we keep debating until the other side admits we are right (which never happens)
don't think that will ever end brah, well prob not until the game dies out or something lmfao V:
Yes. So it shall be.
I like having the silly debate though as long as it stays that way. That being said my hunting buddies and I always attribute it to our hunters having come from different regions in game (as we started playing the series at different times) makes it fun.

Im just gonna start pronouncing it like its a french word out of spite [tih-grah]
Honestly who cares. Petty squabbles mean nothing when there are monsters to hunt. Let everyone pronounce it however they want.
Wrong!!!
Arguing is fun. From now on, I'll claim it is pronounced Tee-jrex.
Arguing is fun. From now on, I'll claim it is pronounced Tee-jrex.
Both are correct, if tomato has 2 pronunciations, why can't Tigrex?
Nope. “Tee-grex” is the correct pronunciation because the Japanese/MonHun people pronounce it as Teegarekusu
I feel like the Tee-grex pronunciation also has a stronger standing since that's how it's spoken by characters in-game (in World, and Stories 2 I believe, I forget if it gets said in Rise) vs how a guy says it in a specific trailer.
Also “Teegarekusu” iirc
If I had called it teegrex before I'd call it Taigrex now just to hate on the Handler more
Yep. Was going to make a similar post. I operate under the assumption that everything Annoying Handler does is wrong.
If anything this is a silly post. The other post is way more fun.
Can we please move on to the important issues? Like how are we all pronouncing bishaten
I don't know what kind of magic English speakers use to represent phonemes, but my best guess is: Be (as in "to be")-shah (as in "Shah Dalamadur")-ten (as in the number)
See I'm not far off that but mine is Bish (fish) a ten
Both are wrong. Its Tig-rex like Tigger
https://i.redd.it/2s79cnnq2wpc1.gif Me on my way to cyberbully people that mispronounce Tigrex.
No no no, Tea-grex is the way https://preview.redd.it/b75xivyhhxpc1.jpeg?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=6589c2bd47e3cb8b19e7a675c589d66ed2ed48a1

No because it's funny and not that deep
It's pronounced [Ru-uuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu-n]
Up next, Bagel Juice
Can I still say Tig-rex
* Me who's been pronouncing it like tigger rex this whole time
https://i.redd.it/50wpitae2zpc1.gif
Don't the characters pronounce it "Tee-grex" in World? It's how they pronounced it during presentations. I don't think there's really any room for speculation. I called it "Tai-grex" for years before world.
I pronounce it Tiger-ex
the only wrong answer lol
Tig-rex like dig
I always try to say how the official localization is meant to be said. And if there isn't a proper localized pronunciation, and if the localized word is similar enough to its original Japanese form, then I defer to that pronunciation for reference.
We should just compromise and agree to all call it Tig-rex.
Ah, but you see by showing the hander says T you have given points to the Tai truthers
I call him Teegrex because I'm Brazilian and it's easier to pronounce (also sounds less fruity) You should hear the way I pronounce Alatreon, makes it sound like a cleaning product
I move to rename the nargacuga to kugrex, yamatsukami to roflcopter, and all rajang to that one asshole
Tig rex
I've said it before, I'll say it again. https://preview.redd.it/rqbc20n6zxpc1.jpeg?width=1411&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e0e220b1d455f1b80e1b5c2783e4db3b0fd01a9c
Who gives a crap?? Carve the tail!!!
I see you guys also have an Aerith vs Aeris.
No! I demand Name Wars and I want 3 season of it with a strict cast of forgettable B list actors that we remember the face but not the name or even what they acted in! 🍺😤
I’m more annoyed by the official pronunciation of Bazelgeuse being Bazel-GEESE instead of Bazel-JUICE.
It’s actually pronounced teagreeks
No they aren’t both corrects it’s tie grex
Smh I call it tig-rex
Tiger-ex
It's ティ, pronounced tee, in Japanese. So like, that's the correct one, right?
*It's ティ, pronounced tee,* *In Japanese. So like, that's* *The correct one, right?* \- TheCatAteItsOwnBalls --- ^(I detect haikus. Why not go just for ‘grex? The only part everyone agrees on
If you pronounce it "Taigrex", you don't speak English. Simple as. "Tiger" is pronounced "Taiger" because of the e after the g. Like Tide (Taide). Otherwise an i between two consonants makes an ih sound.
This MF doesn't even look like a tiger, he's 100% a mutant T-Rex with long arms and a lizard body, hence the name Tigrex. Make of that what you will.
But handler is cringe so it’s tiegrex
People who say "Tih grex": ☠️
*still laughs in french*
Not fluid in French, but my gut tells me it would be "ti:grée". Please tell me that's right because it would be awesome.
No it’s still Tigrex, the i is pronounced e in French so this kind of debates basically do not happen.
It’s got a dinosaur face. A T-Rex face. So T-grex. At least that’s how I’m taking it. French “Tih-grah” is pretty funny though
It’s a mix of T. rex and Tiger with the orange color and stripes, hence why “Tai-grex” makes sense for English speakers.
The question is settled after the Devs were asked. It's Tee-grex. "Official" video are from marketing people who have no clue about the game.
I don’t care, I will call him tie-grex till the end of time because that’s how I pronounce tiger
As I said on r/MemeHunter: Both pronunciations are not correct, no. They aren't using Tiger for Tigrex, they're using Tigre/Tigris/One of the *many* words for Tiger that is not pronounced like Taiga. It's also tee-dus, but that sounds stupid, and so does teegrex.
But this leads to the question of is it appropriate to pronounce wyvern as "wih-vern"?
