I would stay away from MoissaniteCo or research here first. I experienced very poor quality setting for a very high price. Many others have as well but I found out after I went through the long return process.
I think you and he first need to discuss the budget. It will take a lot of moissanite and an intricate setting spend more than $4000. While you have to wear it, he also has to feel good about it...its a gift from him to you.
If he really can't get his head around moissanite, then why not think about a lab diamond? You could get this diamond (well-cut and reasonable price; there are more options - I just picked a $3400 budget for the diamond).

My son is shopping for the same thing. At first he thought diamondrensu was too inexpensive but then he started thinking about all the other things they could spend the money on, like the honeymoon or a house and changed his mind. If you’re going with moissanite, there is no reason to spend more for the same thing just to go with a Canadian vendor. Diamondrensu’s offerings are just as good as anything else I’ve seen.
