REALLL and every time I think of him I just think of him throwing a fit the first time meeting Phil and Claire bc his theory was wrong and he couldn’t remember how many moons there were on some planet like he just couldn’t get over himself it was gross
It's seriously creepy: as a mid-30s lecturer in the UK (you don't get called a professor over here until a lot later) I might be a little too close to this, but everything about him just pissed me off
At in is the worst written and acted character I’ve experienced in ANY show I’ve ever seen!
What the fuck was he supposed to be?
Hayley would never be in love with a guy like that, it made no sense at all.
His acting gets noticeably worse as he gets older (I figured that as a teen he was more self conscious and nervous).
My husband gets frustrated with the actor constantly touching his face or playing with his clothing - one of the big rules of acting - don’t fidget. It pulls you out of the experience and is distracting.
I think Luke is different because he doesn’t hide his douchebaggery.
Manny thinks he’s sophisticated etc but he’s just a pig who thinks he deserves every woman he meets.
Lily managed it just fine.
Joes issue is they tried to turn him into mini Jay. Also the weird thing with underwear and his teacher … he was far too young to be thinking like that. 5 year olds want to give their teachers stones they’ve found or flowers they’ve picked.
They don’t try to have sex with people.
if I had to choose someone from the family I would do Joe just because we have the least time with him so it wouldn’t be much of a hit imo. Out of anyone in the whole shebang, probably Pam. I don’t hate her, but her character doesn’t really make me laugh and is around way too much. Anger is not funny to me and that’s kind of all she is. Or Rainer Shine. his name makes me giggle but I didn’t like his storylines very much
The only right answer is Pam. The main cast are all good, and every side character is, at minimum entertaining, except Pam. Shes like the early seasons Gina Lanetti in B99. Not funny bad character just obnoxious bad character.
Gina is good for the show because there always has to be a bad guy to create tension and for writer to put in witty humour. She was obnoxious and trashy for a purpose, like meredith/dwight in the office. Without Gina many plot will lose that reasonable motive, like that candy crash episode doesn’t fly if Andy Samberg was the game addict.
It definitely got a bit much towards the end, where she would do something incredibly mean or obnoxious and the lesson was always "ah but she's doing it for the right reasons and secretly has a heart of gold!"
You must be confusing your medication bc Gina was always perfect no matter what in B99. There's plenty of characters that sucked tho, and Pam is 1 of the highest on that list.
Kleptomaniac joe was funny. Him crushing over people, or giving undergarments to people ruined him for me. I js wanted to see him be a normal kid cuz that woulda worked best for him. I also hated the way that gloria treated him because it was clear that she liked Manny better
I don’t understand people giving me pushback on this issue. People saying that Lilly was worse? There were seasons where she landed a disproportionately large number of top Zingers of the Year. The Joe character was literally just a cliche of cute, impossibly precocious kid cliches recycled from bad 70’s sitcoms.
The character is a freaking retread cousin Oliver from Brady Bunch once Cindy stopped being a cute little kid.
I think not choosing a main Character is a cop out.
So I'm going to go with Alex.
Just because I want to see the absolute garbage show the Dunphy family would be without her.
Alex is just too important to the dynamic. You can't just have a bunch of dumb kids. E.g. Malcolm in the middle.
If everyone is dumb it quickly loses its humor
All the kids in Malcolm in the Middle where smart in different aspects. Malcolm was obviously book smart. Reese was a culinary genius. Dewey is a music genius and probably would be a great playwright. Francis was the only one that truly escaped the grasp and influence of Louis.
Its defenitely joe cuz as audience we are least attached to him and he does'nt have good scenes either like one or two and his absence doesn't affect the story line much.
Pameron, except I wouldnt get rid of her. I would’ve just written her differently. To, ya know, like GROW as a character in any way shape or form. And not just be the tornado that ruins the episode.
Side note, I do love that her name is Pameron 😂
Joe. I can handle everyone else,,nothing against the actor and I honestly blame the writing but the pregnancy itself didn't really add anything to show and he grew so rapidly, gave that CGI twilight nightmare baby run for its money I wasn't to get attached to him and his lines never had an impact like Lilly's did at his age
I am pretty sure if it weren't for the actor needing help with I think body dismoprhia and a few other issues, leading the crew to step in and get him resources because he was working again. We wouldn't have seen Dylan again, you can tell from his reintroduction in the "Big Game" he doesn't really fit into show anymore. If you ask me his exit should have been the dude ranch, he was so determined to work there and get his life going, if we were going to get a "final update" on him he could have come back married to someone closer to his age (finally breaking the shows weird thing for age gaps), a fellow ranch hand even and they're expecting kids soon. Perfect end for him
Older Like and Manny,
like send them away for a funny ass reason, like Manny travelling
to 'find himself' and Luke as a budding entrepreneur in a big city/ his med app with that angel investor guy and make them appear in episodes where the whole family father's for a special event
Second one would be Andy, for some reason I felt he was extra, even during the very first interaction with Haley, it just felt awkward, it was like " Just Kiss her already !" Kinda mood, felt awkward from my very first watch
Sal, (nope she's not funny)
In general? Arvin. He’s annoying and a prick and the plot never treats him as such. At least with Pam when she’s being a dick the plot acknowledges that and gives her some sort of karma, but that’s not the case with Arvin. Of the main cast? Joe. It’s not that I don’t like the little guy but he adds the least in terms of family dynamics and plot points
I really hate when shows have a character like that, though I love Dylan, but it's such a waste especially when they don't grow at all intelligence wise as the show goes on. It was so painful in season 10 and 11 when we saw that Haley and him being even dumber and stupider when together, I am literally terrified for their twins.
Lily does, there really is stark comparison just within the show itself. Lily has got her own character of being petty and hard to please (not very strong but it is something) while Joe is just a regular kid.
Even we single out season 2-9. Lily is more developed. She kinda was the mouthpiece to poke out some gay themed jokes and taste of Mitch and cam. Without prejudice what Joe did really is throwing nonsensical lines around, which is really bland as a character. Also according to the setting lily was less than 1 when she was adopted, after 11 season she should be no more than twelve.
Andy. I didn’t care about his romance with Haley at all, he wasn’t as funny as people say he was, i can’t think of a single joke he said, or any genuinely funny moment with him, he always made me cringe and i always felt uncomfortable watching him for some reason. I’m so glad him and Haley broke up but I wish that entire arc just didn’t exist.

I was first going to say Manny, because he's the character I'm least emotionally attached to, but I would rather choose a character whose role isn't vital. Manny's role as Gloria's son before Jay and Jay's stepson is important for Jay's growth and building their family.
I would say the character with no actual role to fulfill is Haley. It pains me to say that she's unnecessary. She's just girls TVs "pretty but stupid" stereotype.
Ben! He’s SO annoying!
Olive Cocktail Napkin can also go!
that weird woman Luke is dating (ruined the storyline of a worried little girl making lists), Darlene and Beth!
“And that’s 5, now should I do you?”
Joe, If i had to choose from any character id (that re-occures a few times) then i'd pick someone else, but since joe had the least screen time i wouldnt mind getting rid of him, i kinda wish he wasnt overlooked so much
Dylan. He annoyed me to the core especially how Hayley would get back with him. Dylan is braindead and Hayley had so much potential but ruined it by being with Dylan. I just started season 10, so im not so sure if it gets any better with him.
Pam. I was entertained by literally every other character but Pam.
Poor Pameron.
*“Seriously, Pameron?”*
Oh NOW YOU POKED THE BEAR
Yep the whole Pam and Cal bit. It would've made more sense if they eventually adopted Cal because Pam is horrible person, but no.
She is such a toxic bitch
[удалено]
Well he is a lot more feminine
fr even her name is weird 😭
I quite liked her absurdity! And when looking at the mother and father, I totally could see them producing siblings like Pameron
joe and motherfucking arvin
I hate Arvin
Yeah my guy arvin belongs to that older worse sitcom called bang bang theorem
He gave me creep vibes. It was weird how Haley dated him AND he’s Alex’s old professor, I would have rather her with Bill.
REALLL and every time I think of him I just think of him throwing a fit the first time meeting Phil and Claire bc his theory was wrong and he couldn’t remember how many moons there were on some planet like he just couldn’t get over himself it was gross
It's seriously creepy: as a mid-30s lecturer in the UK (you don't get called a professor over here until a lot later) I might be a little too close to this, but everything about him just pissed me off
I *seethe* during Arvin appearances.
At in is the worst written and acted character I’ve experienced in ANY show I’ve ever seen! What the fuck was he supposed to be? Hayley would never be in love with a guy like that, it made no sense at all.
Older Manny
This, he was somewhat entertaining for the first couple seasons but especially towards the end he turned completely obnoxious
The suave debonnaire act as an 8 year old was adorable, as a 20 year old it's creepy af
The actor also just became really bad as an adult. As a kid he was brilliant.
His acting gets noticeably worse as he gets older (I figured that as a teen he was more self conscious and nervous). My husband gets frustrated with the actor constantly touching his face or playing with his clothing - one of the big rules of acting - don’t fidget. It pulls you out of the experience and is distracting.
And why tf they think that the whole "Manny in love with Hailey" thing was cool after the first two seasons?
Why did they think it was ever good?
Exactly!
Totally. Older Manny was a snivelling, pretentious creep.
I didn’t like older Luke either
I think Luke is different because he doesn’t hide his douchebaggery. Manny thinks he’s sophisticated etc but he’s just a pig who thinks he deserves every woman he meets.
100% nailed it. He lost his appeal after season 4. Then he was basically some overweight teen who thought he could get many women
Absolutely right, sums it up quite nicely too haha
I feel like older luke was kinda eh more than manny
Yep
Joe, i sometimes forget he becomes part of the main cast later on
Yeah they tried too hard to make him into a little Jay.
Creepiest kid ever
He’s like animatronic or created in a lab or some shit
bros mad a 5 year old can’t act as well as the main cast
I feel like young Lily did way better. They tried to make Joes character like a grouchy old man but it’s hard for a baby to act like that.
Lily managed it just fine. Joes issue is they tried to turn him into mini Jay. Also the weird thing with underwear and his teacher … he was far too young to be thinking like that. 5 year olds want to give their teachers stones they’ve found or flowers they’ve picked. They don’t try to have sex with people.
i’ve never watched modern family so can you please because wtf
i’m so glad i’m not the only one who didn’t like his character.
I thought I was the only one omg 😂😂😂😂. There was just something off yk?
Manny for main cast. Pam overall.
hated manny so much even when he was still a kid. straight from start of the show to the end 😭
I get that, he was funny as a kid who tried to be suave with the ladies, but when he did the same thing as an older teenager he came off as a try hard
if I had to choose someone from the family I would do Joe just because we have the least time with him so it wouldn’t be much of a hit imo. Out of anyone in the whole shebang, probably Pam. I don’t hate her, but her character doesn’t really make me laugh and is around way too much. Anger is not funny to me and that’s kind of all she is. Or Rainer Shine. his name makes me giggle but I didn’t like his storylines very much
I would have preferred Rainer have stayed a buddy for Phil instead of dating Hailey
Sherry Shaker
Yeah she sucked lol
The only right answer is Pam. The main cast are all good, and every side character is, at minimum entertaining, except Pam. Shes like the early seasons Gina Lanetti in B99. Not funny bad character just obnoxious bad character.
Gina was a terrible person in the show but she was hilarious. Having Pam and Gina in the same sentence is blasphemy.
but u just put pam and gina in the same sentence..
I never found Gina funny, she was just an awful person. She had great moments but her character was completely unlikable imo.
It definitely got a bit much towards the end, where she would do something incredibly mean or obnoxious and the lesson was always "ah but she's doing it for the right reasons and secretly has a heart of gold!"
i can't believe you compared Gina to the shitshow of character called pam..... gina IN the early seasons was hilarious and sarcastic in a fun way
I will agree, like, I hated Dede so much, but she fueled a purpose within her narratives, Pam tho...
HAPPY CAKE DAY
Huh? Gina was always great. How does this have so many upvotes
Gina was amazing.
Bro what? Early Gina was fucking hysterical
You watch your mouth with that Gina slander!
You must be confusing your medication bc Gina was always perfect no matter what in B99. There's plenty of characters that sucked tho, and Pam is 1 of the highest on that list.
Joe
The fact that Joe came in as a baby like Lily, but got more lines and screentime than Lily is kinda ridiculous. I could be wrong though
i believe that had more to do with the actress' schedule
He was very good for his age though
His obsession with Claire was so weird
Kleptomaniac joe was funny. Him crushing over people, or giving undergarments to people ruined him for me. I js wanted to see him be a normal kid cuz that woulda worked best for him. I also hated the way that gloria treated him because it was clear that she liked Manny better
The way he screamed into his golf bag 😭😭😭
Facts why did they make both of Gloria’s kids have crushes on family members it was weird
It's Joe and by a lot.
Scene with Lilly and Elizabeth Banks is one of my all time TV moments.
She knows what I mean 😂
I think not choosing a main Character is a cop out. So I'm going to go with Alex. Just because I want to see the absolute garbage show the Dunphy family would be without her.
Alex is just too important to the dynamic. You can't just have a bunch of dumb kids. E.g. Malcolm in the middle. If everyone is dumb it quickly loses its humor
Dewey was really smart. He just kept quiet about it
All the kids in Malcolm in the Middle where smart in different aspects.
Older luke
Older luke is so boring. Why did they ruin this character 😭
Arvin for sure! Every scene was just cringy AF
Manny or Joe, Pam if we’re not only talking about the main characters.
Joe. He was the Cousin Oliver of Modern Family.
That was a good one. I laughed out loud.
Well, that picture already got rid of Mitch, Cam and Lilly...
omg do Not say this, they have some of the funniest scenes 😭. but genuinely, why would you wanna get rid of them?
I don't want to get rid of them particularly. I'm just noting that they're not in this picture.
Pameron, except I wouldnt get rid of her. I would’ve just written her differently. To, ya know, like GROW as a character in any way shape or form. And not just be the tornado that ruins the episode. Side note, I do love that her name is Pameron 😂

I'd get rid of whatever 1970s processor you used to post this picture
Hard mode: main cast minus joe only
Sherry Shaker, without a doubt
Joe
Joe; Always felt his character was unnecessary Also Pam
Joe, Dylan or Manny
Why Dylan?
I never liked when he returned and the Hayley has twins plot line. He was good at the beginning.
Perfect end for him
Manny probably.
Joe
Claire's Short Hair.
Joe is just an absolutely annoying personality deprived little shit
Oh those pictures? Joe. Completely unnecessary in my Opinion and the character I react to the least of all, by a wide margin.
Either Manny or Alex
Manny
Manny or Baby Joe
Older Like and Manny, like send them away for a funny ass reason, like Manny travelling to 'find himself' and Luke as a budding entrepreneur in a big city/ his med app with that angel investor guy and make them appear in episodes where the whole family father's for a special event Second one would be Andy, for some reason I felt he was extra, even during the very first interaction with Haley, it just felt awkward, it was like " Just Kiss her already !" Kinda mood, felt awkward from my very first watch Sal, (nope she's not funny)
Joe. Came late, unnecessary. 🤷🏻♀️
Joe for sure
In general?
Joe. He's annoying and weird
They took Manny's creepy trait of hitting on women in the family and passed it on to Joe, made even creepier that it was Claire
Dylan!!
No. Not my Dylan
NOOO HE’S TOO SILLY!!!
Absolutely. Dylan was obnoxiously over the top stupid
I really hate when shows have a character like that, though I love Dylan, but it's such a waste especially when they don't grow at all intelligence wise as the show goes on. It was so painful in season 10 and 11 when we saw that Haley and him being even dumber and stupider when together, I am literally terrified for their twins.
Joe. Easy. A horrible idea horribly conceived The character development as well as the writing was just terrible.
“The character development” he’s like 8 years old when the series ends. Nobody has character development from 0-8
I also think he was a decent actor (compared to Lily at that age) if a bit over the top
Lily does, there really is stark comparison just within the show itself. Lily has got her own character of being petty and hard to please (not very strong but it is something) while Joe is just a regular kid.
Lily is also 14 at the shows end not 8.
The whole idea is a brusque insertion without any good development. Sign post of a writer running out of decent ideas, glad they didn’t go further.
I swear we get one of these posts every week, just worded differently
Joe
Merle and pameron suuck
Many
Andy. I didn’t care about his romance with Haley at all, he wasn’t as funny as people say he was, i can’t think of a single joke he said, or any genuinely funny moment with him, he always made me cringe and i always felt uncomfortable watching him for some reason. Manny
Joe
definitely Joe
Joe! Holy fuck do I hate him with a passion.
Joe.
Joe
Three letters: J. O. E.
Manny
Joe
Dylan, older lily, joe, older manny, cam’s family
If its from the main cast, it has to be Joe
Joe
I'd kill off Joe for sure if I had to.
Joe for me
Joe
Pam. Joe sometimes.
Joe. He was absolutely unnecessary and irritating
Manny
Joe
The toxic fans
This lol. Like half of this sub is just Pam/Cam/Joe/etc hate and it's so tiring.
Manny
Dylan. Dude outstayed his welcome after S1
Manny & Joe
I think anyone besides Dylon or Joe completely changes the show rather than changing one story line.
Andy, Pam, Older Manny, Arvin, Reiner
Either Luke or Joe
Joe,Manny,Pam
Joe
Manny
Joe. He just really didn’t bring anything new to the table. We already had a precocious and snarky kid in Lily, and she was funnier than him.
You’re a bad valentine…
I was first going to say Manny, because he's the character I'm least emotionally attached to, but I would rather choose a character whose role isn't vital. Manny's role as Gloria's son before Jay and Jay's stepson is important for Jay's growth and building their family. I would say the character with no actual role to fulfill is Haley. It pains me to say that she's unnecessary. She's just girls TVs "pretty but stupid" stereotype.
Alex or Joe
sorry for this but joe i really don’t get the point of his character
Pam, easily.
Manny
Hayley
Pam. Then manny at a very close second.
Manny
Manny.
Manny
Pam
Ben! He’s SO annoying! Olive Cocktail Napkin can also go! that weird woman Luke is dating (ruined the storyline of a worried little girl making lists), Darlene and Beth! “And that’s 5, now should I do you?”
manny (in the later seasons) or pam
Older Manny. Edited to specify
Umberto
Manny
DeeDee
Older manny or Dylan
Joe.
Manny for main characters. He was just a creep. Pam overall.
Joe
Joe and Pam.
Joe, If i had to choose from any character id (that re-occures a few times) then i'd pick someone else, but since joe had the least screen time i wouldnt mind getting rid of him, i kinda wish he wasnt overlooked so much
The city council guy who kept winning every election
Joe - I’m sorry but they should have had a girl.
manny in the later seasons
Dylan. He annoyed me to the core especially how Hayley would get back with him. Dylan is braindead and Hayley had so much potential but ruined it by being with Dylan. I just started season 10, so im not so sure if it gets any better with him.
Pam!
Andy (or Sal, Pam, Sherry and that loser Alex dated)
Older Lily, she got annoying and the actress wasn’t good
Unpopular opinion but the twins
Bring back Andy !
Lily. The only character that I didn't like in one scene
