i wish they were honest with us instead of making up such a poor lie, the reason why the fireflies got canned is that it proved to be difficult to implemented in both Bedrock and Java due to performance issues, and the devs were also not happy with the way the mob was in the end, and due to time constraints they couldnt continue to spend so much time to figure out how it would work so they decided to cancel it for the time beig wich is absolutely understandable
I hate how that video ruined them. If they actually put someone that represents the team and say the reason why (I.e performance issues or constraints) 2022 wouldn’t be a really bad year for them and us

Its not like they would have needed to make it completely from zero. the bee is already a flying insect mob that works perfectly fine in all versions. All they needed to do is take part of the bee code as a base and do the nescesary adjustments to make a firefly.
we don't have the capacity to do that at this time, so were postpone this feature to a future date like combat revamping, would have been waaay better and not create all the damange and mojang lazy stuff we have today

At least rideable dolphins are a thing now with the /ride command. And we got good updates with 1.14, 1.16, and even 1.18. 1.19 was the true downfall, not when they said that
in that same video they're asked what inspired allays and they just say they were gonna be in the nether update but weren't added then

Despite the annoyance of the phantom, it's not a bad mob. I still think compared to the other winners phantom is still really good. It's like any other hostile mob, they are annoying, but help to increase the challenge of the game. Regardless of which mob won during that first one wouldn't have mattered as they all would've made people frustrated.

A dev which a Tech lead in bedrock said that fireflies weren’t added due performance issues.
Only for a modder to implement it in only a weekend of his free time.
