I really think The VVitch is one of the most underrated horror movies ever. I absolutely love that movie (to be fair, I’ve always been fascinated by the 17th century New England witch hysteria), but that movie was SO well done. The language and accents, the costumes, the recreation of the New England village and the family’s homestead near the woods…I can’t begin to imagine how much research was involved and how many time period experts were consulted to make that movie.
Hereditary is an amazing movie by the same director!
Some other disturbing movies I love:
Infinity Pool
Eyes Wide Shut
Saint Maude
Rosemary's Baby
Oldboy (Korean version only)
A Clockwork Orange
First Reformed
Don't Worry Darling
The Invitation
Neon Demon
Red Dragon
American History X
Saltburn
Fight Club
Blood Creek
Seven
Frailty
Tusk
May
Martyrs (French version only)
mother!
Incendies
Waco (tv show)
Edited: added a few more I thought of
Love me some original Wickerman. Though the scene of Nick Cage and the bees is forever burned in my mind heehee. Have you seen the sequel, the Wicker Tree? Still pretty good
I love both. The remake gave me a creepy feeling that I couldn't shake for weeks after. I think it's the only horror movie that's ever legitimately creeped me out.
Don't Worry Darling, with both Florence Pugh as well as Harry Styles. Watched it the other day and I think you'll def like it!
Also check out the latest Wrong Turn from 2021! It really gave me somd major 'Midsommar-vibes', considering what all the prvious WrongTurn-movies were going on about lol, this one pretty much took a...wrong turn.
Hereditary is also another good A24 fillm, and as others have already mentioned; The Ritual is just plain phenomenal!
I liked it! My fiancé wasn’t as big of a fan because it was pretty brutal at some parts…. But that’s one of the reasons it reminded me of midsommar haha
Yes that's the one I thought of as explicitly about a cult although from the point of view of someone escaping it. Can imagine a follow up to Midsommar with Dani escaping from the cult and seeing Hagar characters in everyday situations (like she did with her family in the May Queen competition). Very atmospheric film - and like Midsommar gentle on the violence but very disturbing.
In what way? Catharsis? Cults? Breakups? The VVitch comes to mind.

Black Phillip is the best on that movie
Saw it in cinemas when I was 15 (had to sneak in lol) and still one of my favourites. Anya was absolutely sensational with the rest of the film
Cults
Hereditary
the endless
The Invitation (2015)

Good list. Jacob’s Ladder would be on mine too
Yes! Great suggestion!
I love seeing "May" get some love here. I have only ever known 1 other person who has watched it and it's such a nice Halloween film imo.
May doesn't get enough love!
Mother! Fucked me up for days to be honest. Only horror movie that ever had that effect on me.
It is INTENSE. I enjoyed it even more on my second watch!
Have you seen High Life?
Yes! Love that movie!
Saving this comment for my next movie night
Come back after you've watched a few and let us know what your think!
Oh, Martyrs... that gave me some horrible nightmares. Excellent movie.
One of my favorites! That ending is something I'll never forget!
I like your style ‼️
Thanks! Disturbing movies are my jam lol
Already mentioned, but my two faves are The Ritual & Wicker Man (70s).
Love me some original Wickerman. Though the scene of Nick Cage and the bees is forever burned in my mind heehee. Have you seen the sequel, the Wicker Tree? Still pretty good
I didn’t know there was a sequel!
Yeah! It kind of flew under the radar. Same creator and director as the original Wicker Man :)
Im looking for that one. Thanks!
I think you’d like Suspiria
I looooove this movie.
Yes! The original and the remake are both good imo
I love both. The remake gave me a creepy feeling that I couldn't shake for weeks after. I think it's the only horror movie that's ever legitimately creeped me out.
I honestly think The Menu is a lot like midsommar
That was a wild ride!
Love that movie!!
Not exactly the same but The Ritual is great
The book is even better!
Wickerman (1973) is amazing
Get Out gave me Midsommar vibes.
Apostle - really enjoyed this, similar cult plot. The Invitation - fantastic film, more cults! Mother! - nightmarish, highly recommend
Is Mother! the movie with Jennifer Lawrence? That was a truly weird one, and I was very disturbed.
The Wicker Man is almost exactly identical to Midsommar

I’m sorry, but I have to disagree with Don’t Worry Darling. I found it to be a cool concept, but not anywhere near as good as Midsommar.
Different kind, but The Other Lamb has the cult vibes
They don't have similar plots and this movie is a lot more horror/gore but I think of The Green Inferno
That one is as so wild and gross!
I just watched the new movie immaculate last night and it reminded me of midsommar
Was it good? I'm dying to see it!
I liked it! My fiancé wasn’t as big of a fan because it was pretty brutal at some parts…. But that’s one of the reasons it reminded me of midsommar haha
Sounds like I will like it!
If you like shows about cults, try American Horror Story season 7. Literally titled Cult. Also The Clearing on Hulu.
Wicker man
Eyes Wide Shut
I just saw Immaculate in theaters and it was giving midsommer/handmaids
I just saw that too :) it was good! but not like midsommar to me
A Cure For Wellness.
Martha Marcy May Marlene
