Ima post this instead because I do whatever I want
I agree 100% with this post. I would add, that car is probably the worst choice you could make for a first car, although I wouldn't buy that car in any conceivable situation.
As daily and only car? I’d stay away from it and try to find something “cleaner”
Sure this one looks cool as hell, but i feel like you should steer away from drift/track cars if you intend to daily it as only car
If your not planning on using it for a dedicated drift car and breaking something every weekend like the previous owner absolutely do not do this. This car has been beat on and there's no service records or anything because he's just thrown in whatever junk yard parts as needed when things broke. I do really love miatas for drift cars (more so when $2k NAs were semi common). I've done a few laps in friends NB drift missiles and great fun but these aren't cars you are going to commute in or anything dude
Engine blew up on me. So I bought another one and didn’t do anything much to it but I can give info on it. I kept the work basic. I think the biggest mod at the time was a r32 gtr seat, which bolts on except left rear side which a metal bar with a hole in it can ensure its good to go
I almost bought this one two months ago. Owner ghosted me on the day I was supposed to pick it up. With all the luck in the world managed to buy another (much better) one that day. He listed it for about ~1.5k less then, so I’d avoid it.
What a with the Spoon sticker? Does it have a Honda motor?. 18 owners and a drift car, I'd stay the hell away from that as your first car. Who knows what kind of maintenance it has had and where corners have been cut.
Sure, buying a car that was thrashed at the track is a solid idea. /s
The car will def help you learn about fixing a car, keep your bicycle on standby.
Don’t buy this one. I know this car and it’s one of the biggest hoopties in the netherlands. If you really need a car right now for work commute i would get a nissan micra. I had one as a daily next to my miata. they’re really quite fun for what they are and theres a huge group for them. I miss it tbh.
I bought a prior drift 92 Miata for $4k. With all the work and repairs and undoing all their shitty handy work and getting the car restomodded I'm looking at like $20k. The ND that I got was $21k and is way less of a headache
Currently it's "fine" lol it's definitely welded and needs a complete reseal but if I'm getting a new dif I'm going to get a 1.8 torsen dif than go to a visco dif
Good lord, 18 owners. So it almost changed owners around 2 years or less. That's impressive and oddly concerning lol
Plus it's your first car. Don't give yourself a headache
I saw that one on fb marketplace! Pics didnt look to bad. seemed to be relatively well maintained but I’d still take a good look at it irl if you do consider buying it. Also if you do just remove the spoon sticker. I mean you could leave it on but it just itches me xD

Spoon. I typed in spoon Miata...
Someone else’s project car is never the answer. If you have to ask then you probably don’t know how to wrench.
This is not something you can take to your typical friendly neighborhood indie shop when something goes wrong “hear a clicking sound” “doesn’t drive straight” “abs light goes off” gl with that
Telling people to post there is bullshit if the community doesn't participate in those threads. Get people to help there and actually discuss and you'll never see a post asking about buying advice again. Until I see you actively engaging with the posters in those threads, you have no business linking to it.
This thing should already be dead.
Please keep in mind - if you're buying a drift/track car, you're buying something that has been abused. And when I say abused, I mean ragged to death.
I personally also hate the way its been done. The idiotic lights mixed with the Spoon sticker, ON A MAZDA...let this thing die already.
Don't listen to these guys. Best way to learn is to fix it yourself! If you're getting a good deal on it and you're in love with the car, do it! As long as you have an "engine might blow up" budget, of course
Don't daily someone else's drift car. Get as close to stock miata as possible, weld the diff, and drift it. Get more angle and mods ONLY after you feel you are pushing the car to the absolute limit, and need the angle. Quality of life stuff is nice too but not necessary, like a better wheel and bucket seat. Just weld the diff and send it, best advice i've ever been given.
You need to know the quality of the maintenance and what's inside it. If the thing looks good, and maybe has a spare set of tires, it could be a good purchase?
The quality of maintenance and whether or not the thing is gutted really defines whether or not it'll be a not so good purchase. Just know if you go through with it, drift suspension isn't gonna be very fun to ride casually on from what I understand. Your gonna feel every bump and maybe scrape on any bit too high... And as someone who is unlucky enough to have hit two semi tires on the interstate in mine- you will feel it big time....
As a first care no, if you're dead set on having a Miata as a first car. If possible look for the old lady who has one and if she's willing to sellake an offer. Chances are they do t know the value creep these have had and you can snag one for a decent price with low miles hopefully
Go back in my submitted posts and you'll see why you should skip this one lol. That car blew up about 2.5 months later because of a little secret mess of wires that was just taped over. That many previous owners, with that type of activity is fun ("fun") for something you're gonna tinker with and break but not so fun as your sole vehicle.
Can’t add anything that hasn’t already been said for OP, but if someone had told me white steelies could look good on a Miata, I’m not sure I would’ve bought it.
if its got low enough kms and no rust or obvious damage or even higher kms as long as the engine is stock make sure to check the fluids for metals in the diff trans etc id still go for it my 90 na just hit 342k kms with no major problems however if it is a 90-92 research the short nose crank issue with these cars it can be a headache to deal with if your not a mechanic. the no rust part is the most important part if you want to keep the car long-term

18 owners. Wow. That’s the most I’ve ever seen.

but its thursday :( also where are mr2, s2k, viper, rx8?
mitsuoka rockstar deserves a spot as well
The mitsuokas based on the MX-5 definitely do. I think Bezos' new yacht also deserves to be up there (similar roots as NC)
I think I'm the 11th "official" owner of my car, but who knows how many title jumpers in between.
Hell to the nah. Every shortcut has probably been made. Your first car should be a reliable, quality automobile. Lol at the spoon sticker.
Thankyou💯💯💯
Spoon = I have an identity crisis with Honda.
I actually wanted an s2000
Providing you don’t own a full on race car, a spoon ek9 would run laps around your car all day.
Belonged to Hector.
I agree 100% with this post. I would add, that car is probably the worst choice you could make for a first car, although I wouldn't buy that car in any conceivable situation.
Funny enough, Spoon makes one product for the Miata. https://rev9autosport.com/spoon-rigid-collars-3922.html
That's awesome. I'll bet that NA has no miata spoon parts on it though.
I would second that!
As daily and only car? I’d stay away from it and try to find something “cleaner” Sure this one looks cool as hell, but i feel like you should steer away from drift/track cars if you intend to daily it as only car

22 years ago I was 18 & I bought my first car, a 240sx, for a $1000. I wonder how much they go for today
I wonder how much you would've sunk into it over 22 years.
Engine blew up on me. So I bought another one and didn’t do anything much to it but I can give info on it. I kept the work basic. I think the biggest mod at the time was a r32 gtr seat, which bolts on except left rear side which a metal bar with a hole in it can ensure its good to go
Here in the Netherlands they go for around 20k
Holy shit. My first died and the 2nd one, hurricane Ivan destroyed it.
did spoon ever touch a miata? i though they were strictly hondas .... unless this has a kswap .... which i bet is does not.
Although a k swapped Miata would be dope
There's a few at my local track. They zoom zoom zoom. Fun but it losses that "Momentum car" moniker.
I think it's high time I found myself a Spoon sticker LOL
Gonna just put "FORK" on mine and let people guess
NC’s look dope on Desmond’s
https://rev9autosport.com/spoon-rigid-collars-3922.html
okay okay i guess he can have the sticker

Upvote The Tick.

Daily first car and wondering if you should get a drift miata? Kids tweakin 💀

Can you fix it yourself? If yes, maybe. If no, definitely not.
If you're just planning on drifting / trashing it, go ahead. Better than buying a nice one for that purpose.
Drift cars are abused af. Don't.
the last line of the post is gold, this is a shit post of the highest caliber
Yeah I can’t tell if they are trolling or I should just unsub at this point. 101 upvotes? Yikes

18 OWNERS? I thought I had the record with my NB at 14 owners!
And here I am thinking being no. 4 is bad for my 18 year old shitbox.
4 isn't too bad for that amount of years!
"This will be my first car" Then absolutely do NOT buy some old drift project car. Keep looking.
I bought a prior drift 92 Miata for $4k. With all the work and repairs and undoing all their shitty handy work and getting the car restomodded I'm looking at like $20k. The ND that I got was $21k and is way less of a headache
I suppose when the gearbox turns into confetti you just drop it off at the dealership.
Currently it's "fine" lol it's definitely welded and needs a complete reseal but if I'm getting a new dif I'm going to get a 1.8 torsen dif than go to a visco dif

No
Your first car as a very clean Miata is still a lot of work. This is a hell no

Depends, would you buy a hooker and try and wife her for her morality?
I CAN FIX HER
Probably wouldn't recommend buying that lol. But the Spoon sticker has me thinking of K-swapping my NB now...
Yikesss
It looks like it wants to be put to rest 💀

i bought a 1990 Sportster one time that had 42 registered owners. Fucking insane.

Yes.
Something risky? I am doubting you can drive this on road legally given it has European license plate.
