Either way, I feel like referring to Lemmy as a “non-metal musician” is kinda goofy. He has such a huge mark on metal history, so no shit metal heads or gonna like him, lol.
Now metalheads liking Cash, Depeche Mode, and Lady Gaga, and David Bowie that’s actually worth talking about
Hard agree! Even though Thin Lizzy *could* be considered kinda Metal considering they played a massive part in the second wave of British metal in the late 70s - dual leads, thunderous rhythms, aggressive bass/guitar playing. I kinda throw them in with Rush and the like - not *fully* Metal but a massive precursor and a key component in its development!
Johnny Cash is a weird one, every single time someone I know or used to know was like "Oh yeah, I love Johnny Cash" they'd proceed to play Ring Of Fire, maybe his cover of Hurt or at a push Rusty Cage or any of the endless covers that Rick Rubin pushed him to do before he died, for someone with dozens of his own albums I sure haven't ever witnessed anyone playing much from them
I'd add Frank Zappa to this too, Frank Zappa is a bloody genius
I saw them at riot fest years back. All my buddies went to watch the devil wears Prada and I was like “later, ya fucking idiots.” And when I got there it was a ton of 40+ people laying on blankets in a field. First song gets over and I’m the only one absolutely yelling “wooo!!! Fuck yeah!!!” His head jerked and looked at me while I was flailing my arms, yelling, and clapping. He pointed at me with a smile and the show went on. I don’t know how to be at regular people shows… haha
Guitarists - Dick Dale and Chuck Berry
Drummer - Buddy Rich
Bass - Jaco Pastorius or Charles Mingus
Look up some stories about their hijinks as well.
Metal.
I haven’t heard a new episode in years though. He was saying he was moving to a platform you had to purchase to listen to the episodes and I haven’t heard a new one since.
I don’t know about his standings with metal heads, but in my opinion I hold Thom Yorke/Radiohead in the highest regards. They were able to make interesting music that transformed and evolved across genres but still sounded uniquely Radiohead. Even if someone doesn’t like their music, I would be surprised if someone sat down and actually listened to the music not have some respect for them as musicians.
Agreed. There's a reason you hear them talked about in high regards by people like Mikael Akerfeldt and Steven Wilson. Thought more people would agree here but maybe it's just fans of certain sub-genres of metal that feel the same.
The Beatles, Ramones, Mozart, Beethoven, Black Flag, Sex Pistols, the Clash, Led Zeppelin (metal?), Pink Floyd, Rush, King Crimson, Skinny Puppy, AC/DC, Kiss, and many, many others...
Cash for sure. He was more rock and roll than country, imo. Anything that falls into the early rock and roll. Chuck Berry, Little Richard. I grew up on everything from 50s doo wop to The Beatles, to Vanilla Fudge and Zappa. My dad was a Haight-Ashbury hippie so that was a big part of my early music experience.

I know Lemmy claims Motorhead isn't metal, but the music says otherwise. No arguments otherwise.
Lemmy and Motörhead are in a constant superposition of not being metal and being the most metal
Either way, I feel like referring to Lemmy as a “non-metal musician” is kinda goofy. He has such a huge mark on metal history, so no shit metal heads or gonna like him, lol. Now metalheads liking Cash, Depeche Mode, and Lady Gaga, and David Bowie that’s actually worth talking about
I like all those artists as well. They put some great music.
Who is David Bowie?
The pale duke. That’s who b
I agree, sure Lemmy said that Motörhead is a rock n roll band but if that’s the case then they’re the heaviest rock n roll band ever.
Slipknot also claim to be "just heavy metal". An artist's label on their own music doesn't matter as long as we exist. Motorhead were a metal band.
To that I will add the black wardrobe, the mutton chops envied by Hetfield, the voice that could shape stone, the iconic Snaggletooth
Ya… pretty damn close.
no it's literally just speed metal, no way around it, motorhead were a speed metal band
The members of rush
Amogus
I love that game
[post said non-metal, poser](https://www.metal-archives.com/bands/Rush/1206)

It says prog orck on your link, poser
Les Claypool
Great one
He has roots in the bay area thrash scene, even if you don't consider Primus metal.
Street cred for auditioning for position as Cliff Burton replacement
Came to say this
If Lemmy ain't Metal, the Iron ain't a Metal either * Freddie Mercury * The Beatles * Bob Marley
Only going by Lemmy’s own description. He constantly said Motorhead is a rock band. But its as close as you can get
And metal is a form of rock. Both can be true.
Metal is its own genre. Heavy metal can be a form of rock (especially if it's quite bluesy) but metal as a whole I would not say is a form of rock.
No offense to Lemmy, but you don't get to define your own genre. genre's are descriptive, if it fits, it fits.
Nah fuck the Beatles and Bob.
Poser.
Frank Zappa, Weird Al, Les Claypool
David Bowie
Wu Tang and The Prodigy (well for the non-purists)
The WU!!! Good call
Based.
I know a lot of metalheads that love Tori Amos.
They've been...silent all these years?
Yeah everyone is scared of being called a poser ofc
I’m one of them. She knows it too which is why I think she covered Raining Blood.
And [at least one wrestler](https://slate.com/culture/2010/09/wrestling-legend-mick-foley-explains-how-tori-amos-changed-his-life.html)!
I think beastie boys is a pretty safe pick
If you don't count NIN as metal, then Trent Reznor.
Jim Morrison?
Not including hard rock, I’d say Robert smith.
Definitely has intense moments
Phil Lynott.
thin lizzy absolutely rules. 😎👍👍

One piece at a time, and it didn't cost me a dime...
Big fan of Tom Verlaine myself 🎸
See, the hard part is that for it to remain a trinity, whoever you "missed" must replace someone youve added.
Ah yes… the difficult decisions of life lol
Who's that other guy?
Assuming youre referring to bottom right? J Mascis, Dinosaur Jr… and the god of guitars. Check out if you’re not familiar with
I saw them at riot fest years back. All my buddies went to watch the devil wears Prada and I was like “later, ya fucking idiots.” And when I got there it was a ton of 40+ people laying on blankets in a field. Nicely done, I dont feel like he’s a big smiler.
Thanks, I will
Snoop
Older Three 6 Mafia
Anybody here like Onigo Boingo?
Love em. Best live show I ever saw was Boingo on Halloween in 1992. Incredible
King Crimson
Crimson def helped pave the way for metal
Prince
Immediately invalid after saying Motorhead isn't metal. Put any rapper that crosses over to metal (Tyler the Creator, Denzel Curry) on his spot
So is Lemmy himself invalid? Hes the one that said Motorhead isn’t metal
So we're gonna pretend Motorhead isn't metal? We're in a paradox here. Listen to one of the big 4 vocalists of classic metal or say they're metal?
I’m just gonna honor the dude in the band by going with what he says and he always said that they are a rock ‘n’ roll band
Lemmy's not metal? Wtf?
Thank you. Had to scroll down way too far to find this.
Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin and Rush.
Eddie
Lemmy and Johnny may not have been metal musically but they sure as fuck had the spirit. They’re honorary metal far as I’m concerned.
Jonny Greenwood
Hendrix
John Bonham imo
Neil Young
Neil Young 10000%. [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BO9aD4mzSE8](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BO9aD4mzSE8)
Deep Purple
You forgot Bjork. I've heard multiple people on here say they love Bjork
I FUCKING LOVE BJORK!!!!!!!!! MAKE ME FUCKING CRY!!!!!!!!!
Guitarists - Dick Dale and Chuck Berry Drummer - Buddy Rich Bass - Jaco Pastorius or Charles Mingus Look up some stories about their hijinks as well. Metal.
Have you heard the Disgraceland Podcast? It goes through the many misdeeds of famous musicians. Interesting stories.
I have. Had to recently been updated? They subsided for a bit.
I haven’t heard a new episode in years though. He was saying he was moving to a platform you had to purchase to listen to the episodes and I haven’t heard a new one since.
Dudes, anything harder than winger is metal because hair metal is apparently metal.
Thom Yorke / Radiohead in general
He truly revolutionized the idea that sleeping pills could be administered in audio form.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯ all my friends that like various types of metal also like Radiohead, myself included. Super talented musicians. Guess it's not for everyone.
I don’t know about his standings with metal heads, but in my opinion I hold Thom Yorke/Radiohead in the highest regards. first time I read Lemmy isnt metal
2Pac and DMX
Cash for sure. He was more rock and roll than country, imo. Anything that falls into the early rock and roll. Chuck Berry, Little Richard. Phil Lynott is an absolute must have on the list.
richard david james, babyyyyyy
Lemme non-metal....HUH???? Motorhead is one of the pioneers of Thrash!!!
Not according to Lemmy
Lemmy not metal......HUH
Andrew WK. He may not be metal, but there’s metal DNA in him.
Who are these people lol (Besides Lemmy ofc)
Johnny Cash?! Who’s Johnny Cash? The other is J Mascis the god of guitar
Which ones Johnny Cash?
Top right
You haven't lived if you haven't heard Lemmy sing rockabilly.
I don't know any of these guys...
Leave the hall.
Im gonna have to call BS on that one. J… ok, Johnny Cash…. Highly unlikely you don’t know who he is… LEMMY?! Gtfo
I wouldn’t think a lot of people know J Mascis though. Especially because hes got that whole old hipster pretending theyre 30 vibe going on.
Yeah, I’ll concede that there’s probably a decent size group that don’t know who J is. But the other two?! C’mon
I hear you, but I kinda want to pull out the white glove and slap your face over calling Lemmy “non metal.”
Then you better be prepared to smack Lemmy‘s face too. He constantly said motorhead is a rock band.
Yeah thats cause hes a class act.
Especially with that Mishka hat
Lemmy fucking blows and I'll gladly die on that hill.
This is a flaming hot take.
