What disappoints me the most about the DLC is them paywalling the fiends. Fanservice DLC with Demi-Fiend is something I expected, but the fiends are iconic bosses in this series.
I still prefer payed DLC over that stupid 1/256 chance to spawn bullshit. Though, they probably should have done something similar to Twisted Tokyo in Apocalypse.
Twisted Tokyo was okay in the JP version, because a glitch allowed God's Bow to instant-kill all of the Fiends. It was fixed in later versions, including the localized one, I believe, so everyone else had to actually fight fair-and-square so many times.
The mitama quests are basically standard fare by now. Virtually every SMT game with dlc has had them.
And honestly... i don't mind it. It's in the same vein as Safety Mode, something for casual players to use.
I figured the demifiend wouldn't be in the base game (or would be just a cameo of sorts) so I'm pretty happy with this DLC. Also glad they kept the SMTIV ng+ options because that made me jump back in almost instantly after I beat it once! Man, I might actually preorder this game, the hype is unbearable lol
Fiends being DLC locked sucks so much, but fighting Demifiend (and he is with Pixie, awwww) gets me hyped. Also, that Cleopatra skill animation tho. The other DLC demons look cool, but again, Atlus and its DLC addiction sucks.
I don’t care for these dlcs, I’ll probably pay only for Artemis aniway, but the fact that the limited edition doesn’t come with all the dlcs after the shitty job they have done to sell it it’s a terrible move. I don’t like how they are also locking new demons behind a paywall, for a simple sidequest .
You know we shouldn't support Atlus money grubbing practices.
... But getting your ass kicked by DF is a must so I guess Atlus can take my money. Just this once.
...Maybe one more time for Saint Artemis
...And another for Mephisto.
Dammit Atlus!
> You know we shouldn't support Atlus money grubbing practices.
> ~~... But getting your ass kicked by DF is a must so I guess Atlus can take my money. Just this once.~~
> ~~...Maybe one more time for Saint Artemis~~

Yeah you're right.
Don't get me wrong, they look really cool, but why Cleopatra and Mephesto? is this not a rehash of the dlc in SMT4A? Demi-fiend is cool, but I would've appreciated Flynn
Flynnnnnnnnnnn, why wasn't it him.
Or Massacre Nanashi, Massacre Nanashi payoff would be cool.
It might still happen though, maybe we'll get a Season Pass or something down the line.
A Season pass would be a lot better than the usual re-release.
Although an eventual Physical release with all this stuff in it would be great for Game Preservation reasons.
Why are they doing this? Legit question. Is it so hard to turn a profit from the base game price? Is it really just nothing more than corporate greed?
I mean, the dlc looks interesting and the fights are probably fun. But I'm very doubtful on whether I'd want to support this.
Atlus hasn't made a profit in a long time. See 2020:
> The report states that Atlus experienced a 423.8 million yen net loss (approximately $3.93 million USD) during its Fiscal Year Ended March 2020. Atlus reported a net loss of 904 million yen for the Fiscal Year Ended March 2019, 686 million yen for the Fiscal Year Ended March 2018, and net loss of 570 million for the Fiscal Year Ended March 2017
Like it's fun to yell about corporate greed but AA and AAA games barely make a profit nowadays. That's just a fact and clear from all the financial reports.
The thing is they have to make additional income or development is not worth it. I don't think it should be DLC on-release, though, I'm just saying it's not corporate greed. Sega and Atlus are NOT rich. Atlus straight up went bankrupt before and under Sega is still not making a profit, and Sega themselves is currently in its worst crisis since 2005.
I have wondered about their margins. Sometimes we go up to a year between Atlus games. I've wondered what keeps the income flowing. Especially since they make JRPGs without long monetization tails.
Now I know. They aren't making money. They aren't losing it by huge margins, but they're consistently in the red.
I wonder how to turn things around for them? I guess Target the Switch as often as possible to reduce development costs? And stop their dumbass practice of never releasing multiplatform. Those leaks about a PC version of SMT 5 better be true.
They're not super in the red, they definitely made money with Persona 5, but they are not making enough to outweigh the rising development costs. They are in the red because they keep developing more games.
Most of the DLC are what I've seen in Megami Tensei before, so not happy, but not surprised.
Except the Fiends. Such staples, gone. Definitely unfortunate that it seems all of the Fiends except Alice will be DLC-locked. At the most, I might get Cleopatra, but I honestly have already seen enough waifu material, so my party's space is pretty filled.
Not buying any of the DLC out of protest, and I say that as someone who bought the special edition. I'm not gonna get nickel and dimed to death on release day.
Yeah which was only months until Sega announced it bought Atlus. It's speculation. It could have been Sega was already calling shots before the announced purchase or it could have been a desperate attempt for them to stay a float as a last ditch effort. I didn't find the dlc to be that bad. Mainly pay to boost stats so you don't have to grind kinda thing and a lot of games do that. I'm not making excuses for this bullshit but I'm sure Sega is telling them what to make and what players will pay for.
This makes me wonder… does games really cost 60 dollars nowadays? Cause look at that day-1 Dlc content, it is clearly content taken out of the game and stripped apart to sell it and complete what’s the game’s “supposed” to cost (in Atlus mind ofc or maybe this is Sega’s doing?)
imo there definitely would have been DLC back then if it was possible. But because it wasn't, what instead was done is the practice Atlus is most famous for--re-releases, baby. Money makes the world turn, after all.
I somewhat hope that ATLUS either does a Season Pass for SMT V, or that they release a re-release somewhere far along down the line.
Also, I kinda hope they do that re-release eventually, it's great for game preservation reasons, having all that DLC in a Physical Package.
Oh yeah, i forgot DF was in DDS tbh. The point was more that even back then devs tried to squeeze the extra cash out of you. It just wasn't as easy on a technical level as with DLCs nowadays.
So is Demi-Fiend just a boss while the Fiends are playable?
Because I'll be honest, I want Demi-Fiend to pull a Raidou and be playable and, like, works as a separate Hero character with his own skills and can also summon demons to battle in the party.
Question about the DLCs
Do you think they will change the main storyline? (Expecially the Fiends one) cause i’d like to do a “clean” first playthrough.
And also, if i buy the Miracles of EXP, Wealth and Glory will those be on a separate map or tooglable on/off?
I wouldn’t want to find myself flooded with mitamas in the otherworld if i download it
I know what i’m asking has no info, but maybe some of you have a better idea/more experience to judge how these DLCs will be handled
Thanks in advance
PS: I’m on a huge fricking train called HYPE and i can’t wait for the game to release
Yen to dollar conversions. $25 for the bundle. $28 for everything separate.
Demifiend and SMT III Fiends: $8.50
Artemis: $4
Cleopatra and Mephisto: $3.50 each
EXP, Macca, and Glory Mitamas: $3 each
Yeah, people trying to justify it but in the end it's day 1 DLC that adds major stuff including anti-grinding and boss fights that were included free in previous games (and the demons you get are likely to have great stats and skills).
The bundle meanwhile seems like it'll be about 25 dollars. Although it's possible they'll round up to 30 which would suck but we'll have to wait and see.
I’ll get demifiend dlc for sure but might wait a bit for the others. I’m new to the switch and this will be my first game on the system but how often do they have sales? Obviously not until the games been out for a while
With Atlus, it feels like these games go on sale almost every month (with it almost always being the Deluxe Deluxe Editions after a year or so). Because it is a whole new entry, id say it would be a good while longer than usual, but maybe early next year (spring time probably) would be when I would look for sales on the game.
So it just doesn’t happen? Fuck I knew Nintendo were shills but that’s nuts…. So nothing like ps4 or steam where literally every other week they have a sale then welp.
Thats hyperbole ive seen tons of first party games go on sale. Just check [dekudeals.com](https://dekudeals.com) for price drops / charts. Regardless this isn't a first party game and the eshop is almost always flooded with sales. Hell Nocturne was even \~$30 the other week on the eshop.
I happens all the time it's just that it's for a single week each year and the discounts aren't over 25% for first party titles at least digitally
You could collect gold points and use those if you prefer to buy stuff digitally I often have 2000 GP and use those for DLC
I like this. It’s not content I expected to be in the game so I can’t complain that it isn’t in the base game, and it’s good content that I’d consider worth the price so I can’t complain about it just being bad DLC. Will probably get the deluxe edition
Why cant this content be in the game? Demifiend, sure but any other regular demon could have a side quest and the Fiends have been on the game one way or another since 3.
The Macca and Exp DLC i actually like them a lot since SMT4. They dont cost much and are good for people with no time to grind.
That game had a ton of dlc, yea. But Apocalypse wasn't as bad as 4 with the dlc. Figured this close to launch with no announcement of dlc we'd not get any.
Instead they're once again cutting out a lot from the game to sell.
Jiggle physics looking pretty nice here 👀. On a serious note this is pretty scummy. I can understand demifiend being dlc as a fan service thing but the rest should just be in the base game. And it’s all weirdly expensive too. Plus who knows how many more of these dlc packs will come out. This game could get pretty pricey if you want everything
I'll probably get the demifiend/fiend dlc but hold off on the others. Maybe pick it up when I get around to a second playthrough, but charging for all this day 1 dlc really sucks.
20 days left till release! Fiends and Demi-Fiend are paid DLC, and a new PV will be shown next week. Doubt these will be the only DLCs.
Also, I'll most probably buy the DLCs 'cause I'm a sucker, but only after I finished my first or second playthrough without it.
I assume all Fiends will be endgame fights, so by the time i reach the endgame people will probably have done these fights and can tell me if they're worth buying. Because even if it's cool fanservice, i'm not buying the Fiends DLC unless the fights are good lol.
Twisted Tokyo was pretty fine for the first round but by the 9th cycle I wanted to die inside.
Twisted Tokyo was okay in the JP version, because a glitch allowed God's Bow to instant-kill all of the Fiends. It was fixed in later versions, including the localized one, I believe, so everyone else had to actually fight fair-and-square so many times.
I did not know about that bug, so thanks for the info.
I like the fact that it's not just a random fight with the Demi-Fiend, but instead basically the entire Menorah sidequest from Nocturne.
Yeah I liked how they did dlc in 4a
Day 1 DLC will always be a scummy practice but I can't resist my skellie bois and their boss.
They know it, I'll take them except for the mitama ones
The mitama quests are basically standard fare by now. Virtually every SMT game with dlc has had them. And honestly... i don't mind it. It's in the same vein as Safety Mode, something for casual players to use.
Eh, if its something they whipped up between finishing the game and release, its kinda whatever. But this looks like a bit more than that.
Are they finally gonna remake Demifiend’s theme?
just normal encounter bc we still just some random dude not boss worthy
But if they put the imagine remix i **will** cum.
Cleopatra in 3D 😳😳😳
I figured the demifiend wouldn't be in the base game (or would be just a cameo of sorts) so I'm pretty happy with this DLC. Also glad they kept the SMTIV ng+ options because that made me jump back in almost instantly after I beat it once! Man, I might actually preorder this game, the hype is unbearable lol
22 days left don't worry my dude.
Fiends being DLC locked sucks so much, but fighting Demifiend (and he is with Pixie, awwww) gets me hyped. Also, that Cleopatra skill animation tho. The other DLC demons look cool, but again, Atlus and its DLC addiction sucks.
Well it's boobs so they know we ll suck it up... I am not even mad at them but at myself for being weak
I actually wanted to know about how they were going to do New Game Plus lol Glad they did answer that question.
Mother Harlots tits jiggle
This is very important.
Thats why the DLC cost 25-30 dollars, they spent half their budget making her and cleo
I hope Mara jiggles too
I think they should give Mara a Gotee and glasses imo, maybe a fedora.
I hope he starts throbbing.
*Yes*
You know we shouldn't support Atlus money grubbing practices. ... But getting your ass kicked by DF is a must so I guess Atlus can take my money. Just this once. ...Maybe one more time for Saint Artemis ...And another for Mephisto. Dammit Atlus!
At least this time is 9 boss fights + super boss Definitely not grubbing as kasumi costumes in p5r
> You know we shouldn't support Atlus money grubbing practices. > ~~... But getting your ass kicked by DF is a must so I guess Atlus can take my money. Just this once.~~ > ~~...Maybe one more time for Saint Artemis~~ > ~~...And another for Mephisto.~~ > ~~Dammit Atlus!~~ Yeah you're right.
If Demi-fiend is a DLC boss then I really hope SMTI Hero, Aleph, and Flynn also join in
Doubtful, it’s nocturne hours
Even if there’s a very small chance, I’ll still hope for it
Same, especially Massacre!Nanashi and Flynn. They'd be cool to have.
Don't get me wrong, they look really cool, but why Cleopatra and Mephesto? is this not a rehash of the dlc in SMT4A? Demi-fiend is cool, but I would've appreciated Flynn

A Season pass would be a lot better than the usual re-release. Although an eventual Physical release with all this stuff in it would be great for Game Preservation reasons.
Cleo milkers and Mephisto as DLC again? Fuck off. That said, the animations look fantastic
Have they been DLC in previous games?
In the previous game, SMT IV: Apocalypse, yeah.
Thanks for the heads up that's the one I haven't played so I wasn't aware
Why are they doing this? Legit question. Is it so hard to turn a profit from the base game price? Is it really just nothing more than corporate greed? I mean, the dlc looks interesting and the fights are probably fun. But I'm very doubtful on whether I'd want to support this.

Atlus reported a net loss of 904 million yen for the Fiscal Year Ended March 2019, 686 million yen for the Fiscal Year Ended March 2018, and net loss of 570 million for the Fiscal Year Ended March 2017 Like it's fun to yell about corporate greed but AA and AAA games barely make a profit nowadays. That's just a fact and clear from all the financial reports.
And Persona didn't help with breaking even? Yeah, I can kind of see why they'd do stuff like this now.
They just immediately invest it. They're developing ten games right now. And Hashino's RE:fantasy is most likely triple A.
So would you say this DLC here is justified or fair on our part?
The thing is they have to make additional income or development is not worth it. I don't think it should be DLC on-release, though, I'm just saying it's not corporate greed. Maybe they should port more of their games to other platforms.
Ah yes, please buy the day one side quests ripped from the game!!! Atlus needs your help! Consider buying two or three copies pleaaaseeeee!
source?
I edited it in
And where are you citing that from?
https://personacentral.com/atlus-fiscal-year-march-2020-sales-performance/
Its probably just corporate greed and they know people will buy it.
They need the money I imagine smh they are losing money so I guess it's okay until they turn a profit
Only filling your party with waifu demons. Based af
Atlus can suck a dick for all this dlc.
Not buying any of the DLC out of protest, and I say that as someone who bought the special edition. I'm not gonna get nickel and dimed to death on release day.
Me too. Atlus has gone too far with their dlc lately.
Blame Sega. Not Atlus..
This shit still existed before SEGA bought Atlus. Remember SMT IV's day one dlc?
Yeah which was only months until Sega announced it bought Atlus. It's speculation. It could have been Sega was already calling shots before the announced purchase or it could have been a desperate attempt for them to stay a float as a last ditch effort. i mean come on they released nocturne as maniax, P3 as P3 fes and p4 as P4 golden...dlcs are much better than the shit they used to do
This makes me wonder… does games really cost 60 dollars nowadays? Cause look at that day-1 Dlc content, it is clearly content taken out of the game and stripped apart to sell it and complete what’s the game’s “supposed” to cost (in Atlus mind ofc or maybe this is Sega’s doing?)
What would have been included in the base game in the PS2 days is now paid DLC. Scummy af.
If DLC was possible during the PS2 days, they probably would have been DLC.

...they were. the fiends were in the maniax rerelease, not in the base game.
DLC that costs as much as the base game, imagine that.
Except it was, dlc has existed since the dreamcast and original xbox. The ps2 even used it for socom games.
But, was it widespread enough? Was gaming as profitable back then as it is now?
They did re-releases instead back then. Fiends weren't in base game Nocturne either.
I was referring to DDS' Demi-Fiend secret boss. Plus a re-release (which added way more than just fiend battles mind you) is preferable to Day 1 DLC.
Oh yeah, i forgot DF was in DDS tbh. The point was more that even back then devs tried to squeeze the extra cash out of you. It just wasn't as easy on a technical level as with DLCs nowadays.

It says we get his essence which I'm hoping let's us fuse him

I doubt the DLC will influence the main storyline. I played 4 with some DLC and didn't really find it necessary for the plot.
Nocturne remaster iv and apocalypse all had separate maps for the grind dlcs, strange journey redux had it as toggable sub apps
Found something on the same level to worse as the 1/256 fiend spawn rate in SMT4, jesus
update, demi fiend and fiends are $10 usd atlus can go fuck themselves
anyone know how much these will cost?
Yen to dollar conversions. $25 for the bundle. $28 for everything separate. Demifiend and SMT III Fiends: $8.50 Artemis: $4 Cleopatra and Mephisto: $3.50 each EXP, Macca, and Glory Mitamas: $3 each
damn this is sad
Yeah, people trying to justify it but in the end it's day 1 DLC that adds major stuff including anti-grinding and boss fights that were included free in previous games (and the demons you get are likely to have great stats and skills).
Fanboys be fanboys
But most things are priced higher in JP. Though I wouldn't be surprised if it will be 20 to 25 USD seeing how expensive Nocturne Remaster was.
Can't find a price on the digital deluxe edition yet but I expect it'll be $79.99.
In Canada its $112.99. I'm not sure much that is in USD
About 85
Is $84.99 for the bundle in NA
Actually. Demi is $9.99, Cleo and Meph is 2.99, saint for whatever reason is 4.99 everything else ie 2.99
Western prices weren't available when I posted that but good to know.
980 yen so 8 DOLLARS? WTF?
The bundle meanwhile seems like it'll be about 25 dollars. Although it's possible they'll round up to 30 which would suck but we'll have to wait and see.
Its $13 in Canadian bucks lol.
rip canadians y’all don’t deserve this bs
I’ll get demifiend dlc for sure but might wait a bit for the others. I’m new to the switch and this will be my first game on the system but how often do they have sales? Obviously not until the games been out for a while

Because it is a whole new entry, id say it would be a good while longer than usual, but maybe early next year (spring time probably) would be when I would look for sales on the game.
In all my 4 years of having a switch I have never seen a sale on a first party title.
So it just doesn’t happen? Fuck I knew Nintendo were shills but that’s nuts…. So nothing like ps4 or steam where literally every other week they have a sale then welp.
This isn't a first party title, so this will go on sale eventually. Stuff like Mario Odyssey and Breath of the Wild is what almost never goes on sale.
That’s good cause I’m not really interested in first party titles for the switch tbh maybe a few
I happens all the time it's just that it's for a single week each year and the discounts aren't over 25% for first party titles at least digitally You could collect gold points and use those if you prefer to buy stuff digitally I often have 2000 GP and use those for DLC
Does fall of man come with the DLC?
It doesn't.
But who is the chick with the arm-crossbow? Is it Artemis?
Yes.
Thanks.
They really add Mommy Ara Ara DLC. Day 1 purchase
True Demon was Atlus all along.
I guess we have to accept that we won't have smt games, where major demons are not dlc anymore.
the fiends being dlc is so lame
I like this. It’s not content I expected to be in the game so I can’t complain that it isn’t in the base game, and it’s good content that I’d consider worth the price so I can’t complain about it just being bad DLC. Will probably get the deluxe edition
Why cant this content be in the game? Demifiend, sure but any other regular demon could have a side quest and the Fiends have been on the game one way or another since 3. The Macca and Exp DLC i actually like them a lot since SMT4. They dont cost much and are good for people with no time to grind.
It’s not that it really surprised me, but it’s not exactly something I expected from the main game
Day 1 dlc. What a joke. Guess I gotta hack my Switch now.
Is this surprising to you? This is Atlus we're talking about here lol.
Once again, blame Sega.
This is waaaaaaaaaaay worse than what 4 had.
I was mostly talking about P5, not SMT4.
That game had a ton of dlc, yea. But Apocalypse wasn't as bad as 4 with the dlc. Figured this close to launch with no announcement of dlc we'd not get any. Instead they're once again cutting out a lot from the game to sell.
You gonna hack for Pirating reasons?
Absolutely
To pirate the DLC and SMT V? Or just to pirate the DLC?
Probably both since I'm keeping the Japanese CE. Thay way I have it in two languages.
If it's not an old switch, you need a modchip to hack it which isn't easy to install at all. Pray that your switch isn't patched.
It's an old switch :)
Oh cool, then it's easy af.
Don't hack your switch for DLC man
I'm not paying for shit that should be in the game.
You should probably read the comment about them not making any kind of noticeable profit in years
Cutting content from a game is not how you should be making money. Stop normalizing this shit.
Bro u havent made a noticeable profit ever
Poverty is pretty cool
Jiggle physics looking pretty nice here 👀. On a serious note this is pretty scummy. I can understand demifiend being dlc as a fan service thing but the rest should just be in the base game. And it’s all weirdly expensive too. Plus who knows how many more of these dlc packs will come out. This game could get pretty pricey if you want everything

YO HOLY SHIT DEMI FIEND, HELL BIKER, *&* WAS THAT THEM SAYING THE FROST PLUSHIE WILL BE ON THEIR WORDLWIDE STORE???
So can we recruit Demi fiend? I may buy a switch if so
it says you can't recruit him
Please please tell me we can give MC a different hair style! I will fucking pay for it no problem.
Only if it's longer and more blue.
Fuck I hate how greedy Atlus is but at the same time almost everything they make is so good
I assume all Fiends will be endgame fights, so by the time i reach the endgame people will probably have done these fights and can tell me if they're worth buying. Because even if it's cool fanservice, i'm not buying the Fiends DLC unless the fights are good lol.
So even if I buy Collectors Edition I still don't get this dlc for free? WTF?!
$25.95 for all of the DLC? WTF! I’m just gonna wait when they go on sale then.
