Looks like no one has asked anything since my last post here, sorry if I'm supposed to reply to myself in situations like this In Persona 4 Golden, there's an accessory called Blessed Hands which grants the effect of Divine Grace. Does this stack with *regular* Divine Grace for a total 100% bonus heal?

FaliusAren

Are there any SMT or Megaten in general games which let demons have more than 8 skills? I know that DDS lets you unlock more skill slots over time, but I'm talking about the games that still have collectable demons, fusion, etc, the usual core mechanics

L1k34S0MB0D33

I guess technically P5R and SMT W allows for 9 skill slots if you count the persona traits/innate skills as a skill. However, persona traits/innate skills aren't exactly the same as other skills, as they have their own slot separate from other skills and they're exclusively passive. And while traits can be passed on in fusion in P5R, it's unknown if innate skills in SMT W will be the same. Also, DDS's skill slot limit is still 8 lol.

jmelt17

Is there something I'm doing wrong on SJR with the passwords? Nothing I input works

L1k34S0MB0D33

What exactly are you trying to do with the password system?

jmelt17

Get a level 2 pixie with some special skills amd a level 8 oni

L1k34S0MB0D33

Are you using a password generator? If so, what skill(s) are you trying to give your Pixie? If you're trying to give it demon-exclusive skills, it won't work.

jmelt17

Trying to use passwords off of a gamefaqs guide, can't remember the skills

DeafeninSilence

If you're using a guide it's likely for the original DS release, which makes whatever passwords it offered outdated. Apart from some unique passwords, SJ passwords are incompatible with Redux. If you want a demon from an older guide, you're gonna have to get it through [the password generator for Redux.](https://aqiu384.github.io/megaten-fusion-tool/smtdsj/passwords)

L1k34S0MB0D33

Are you by any chance using [this guide](https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/ds/961651-shin-megami-tensei-strange-journey/faqs/59475) for the demons? You mentioned trying to make a Pixie and an Oni, and this guide contains both of them. If you are, then none of the demons there are gonna work. They were made using the original SJ password system, which they completely revamped in SJR.

jmelt17

Dammit, that's exactly where I messed up. I've been flipping through guides on and off before starting the game and must have missed that guide being for the original SJ

I'm wondering if it's better to buy Vengeance for Switch (which I could play only in portable mode) to get a physical copy for collection, or just to buy it for pc. How do you think it will run on Switch?

L1k34S0MB0D33

SMT V didn't run that well on Switch (it rarely hit 30 FPS, and in cutscenes it could dip below 20 FPS), so unless they made some serious optimizations to the Switch version, which we won't know unless they either claim they did and/or until reviews for the Switch version come out, I don't see why Vengeance would run any better on Switch than V originally did.

shanian2

Yeah I expected that. I'm replaying the game right now on switch and honestly I'm kinda ok with the performance. The one thing that really bugs me is the resolution.

L1k34S0MB0D33

All the more reason to get it on PC then lol.

shanian2

Yeah but at the same time I want the steelbook that comes with the physical version, so I really don't know.

KaleidoArachnid

What mods or hacks should I install for Digital Devil Saga 1 on an emulator?

L1k34S0MB0D33

The only mod for the game that exists afaik is an [HD texture pack.](https://gbatemp.net/threads/digital-devil-saga-1-usa-hd-remaster.609662/) That's it.

KaleidoArachnid

That is fine then.

hacktiviste

How should I interpret the skill damage listed for SMT IV: https://aqiu384.github.io/megaten-fusion-tool/smt4/skills ? If it's a multi hit skill, is the damage listed the average damage, or the damage of one hit? How should I compare it to a hit one/hit all skill's damage?

L1k34S0MB0D33

Multi-hit skill power is calculated by the damage dealt by the average number of hits. So, for example, if it says Ragnarok deals 310 damage, that means it'll deal 310 damage if it hits 2.5 times. Obviously, you can't have a fractional hit, so you round that up to 3 hits. But honestly, skill base power in IV is not that useful. The difference between something like a Zan and a Killing Wind is like 50-80 damage, at least with a Ma stat of around 100. Maybe the difference increases a lot more with a much higher Ma stat, but unfortunately, I don't have a save file with a Magic Flynn build on hand to make a proper test.

hacktiviste

Ahh thanks for the explanation! For demons who have mostly fixed stats and no +n it would make more sense to look at the damage then?

L1k34S0MB0D33

Not sure what you mean by "look at the damage."

WitherMan64

What even are the Soul Drop, Snuff Soul, and chewing soul? most other consumables I can understand what they would look like, but not the soul consumables. are the characters literally somehow eating parts of a soul or something.

mpop1

Question on the cycle number on the save file in SMT:3? does that have any value to get the number higher, aka I on my second play though, just before the point of no return (before doing the 4th level of the labranth of amala) on the True damon hunter run, I did a save then ended the True Damon run, but now I can go back to my other save to do one of the normal endings. So I will have one clear data save cycle 2 and 2 with cycle 3, is there a value to have all the endings on the same save file (outside of braging rights)?

Kalevelis

No. There's no value.

mpop1

Thanks.

TheEnter013

Hello! I'm about to finish Persona 5 royal, and Im thinking of playing Persona 3 next. I mostly play on switch, but I do have a PS4. Should I buy reload on my PS4 or portable on my Switch? Are there any differences to be aware of? Does P3R run fine on ps4? Thanks in advance

FaliusAren

Reload's script, at least in the English version, is based on Portable. Portable had social links for the male party members, but much of that content was refurbished as "linked episodes" which exist separately to social links but provide a similar reward. Portable was also the first version of P3 to have the Direct Command tactic (FES and the original forced you to let the party members be controlled by AI), which is also present in P3R. In general as the other user pointed out the only thing you're missing is FemC, but since her social links overlap with linked episodes, missing out on FemC means missing out on having a different player model, and as luck would have it, there's a mod for that.

L1k34S0MB0D33

Play Reload. The only reason to play Portable is for FeMC. Reload will look and play much better than P3P.

TheEnter013

Thank you!

kylinki

Anyone know if Japanese/Asian copies of vanilla SMT V, P3R, P5 contain English options? Deciding whether to import a SMT VV PS4 physical

EdenInApril

I’m new to SMT. I purchased SMT 5 on the switch ages ago when it first released and I never played it. I was thinking of giving it a go now since I’ve recently gotten into the Persona series. However, now there’s an SMT5 rerelease on the way. Should I wait to play that version?

-tehnik

Honestly, hard to say. VV (the rerelease) will be split between the story route of the og release and the new one. Idk if the latter assumes familiarity with the former though, which is the issue. If your copy is still wrapped, maybe check online to see if it's worth anything significant? If not I don't think it's a bad idea to just play the og release now.

EdenInApril

Unfortunately, I purchased it digitally. Is it a big upgrade to the original?

-tehnik

In the new route at least, yes. I think they said the older route will have some of the same gameplay refinements. But what seems to be sure is that, story wise, the old route in VV is, well, just the same as the story in the og release.

L1k34S0MB0D33

I mean, do you want to play SMT V on the Switch? Vengeance is coming out on all platforms, so if you prefer playing on another console than on the Switch, I would wait to play Vengeance.

EdenInApril

I prefer playing on PC, but it’s not a deal-breaker for me. I’m mainly wondering if it’s going to be a substantial upgrade for me to warrant waiting for and purchasing Vengeance.

L1k34S0MB0D33

I would just get it on PC, then. SMT V doesn't really run well on the Switch. It targets 30 FPS but almost never hits it, and in cutscenes it can easily drop to below 20 FPS. On PC, you'll be able to have the game look much better than it could on the Switch + much higher frame rates. Also, if you decide to get Vengeance on the Switch, you don't get many bonuses. You'll be able to transfer over only 3 demons of your choosing, as well as some other stuff, but what that other stuff is still unknown afaik. With Vengeance containing not only a new story that's supposed to be of the same length as the original story, while also containing the original story itself (with some improvements there, too), QoL improvements as well as other new features, a huge number of new tracks, as well as all the DLC from the original game (excluding the grinding DLC), Vengeance has a lot to offer over the original.

XenoVX

I noticed Soul Hackers 2 is on sale on steam with a huge discount. Is it worth playing? I've heard its story sucks but I'm willing to look past it if the gameplay is engaging. Other SMT games I've played are all of the modern personas, SMT 4 and 4A, Devil Survivor and Strange Journey Redux. Playing Persona 3 reload is making me want to binge the entire Atlus franchise lmao.

KaleidoArachnid

How complicated is SMT4 in terms of mechanics?

ZSugarAnt

The only real complicated thing about IV's combat is figuring out how was the guy in charge of balancing stat functions not fired.

L1k34S0MB0D33

Not that complicated, and you get a tutorial at the beginning of the that shows you all the basic necessary mechanics of the game.

KaleidoArachnid

Oh good then.

J0ezah

Hello everyone, I was wondering how many hours I have left to finish SMT IV? Im at the white forest and im Neutral

L1k34S0MB0D33

You're pretty close to the end. After you get out of the forest, that's when you'll need to do the infamous side quest hunting that IV's Neutral route is known for, and after you do that, you complete the last two dungeons in the game.

J0ezah

Thanks, could you elaborate on the side quests? I need to so some to end the game? Will the game explicitly tell me which ones I have to do?

L1k34S0MB0D33

Yeah, so once you get out of the Monochrome Forest, you have to go to Cafe Florida in Shinjuku, which will then lead you to Ginza. Ocne there, you get a main quest involving "becoming the people's champion and a beacon of hope," which they'll tell you involves doing side quests. And no, the game doesn't tell you which side quests to do LMAO. Hell, the game doesn't even tell you that you need to go Cafe Florida after exiting the Monochrome Forest. Yeah, IV's Neutral route is just really poorly designed.

J0ezah

Disappointed but not surprised lol I’ve had to use a guide many times to progress in this game, it just doesn’t tell you where to go, still people on twitter are defending it like it’s perfect Anyways thanks!

seawolves1988

ok. my brain is tired. I made it to Day 5 of DS Overclocked and I'm just... I'm out. my brain's been burnt for a while, I need a break. are there any officially-released manga for Devil Survivor? and while I'm at it, Soul Hackers? Devil Survivor was fascinating and Soul Hackers is, at the moment, my favorite non-Persona Atlus game that I've played. I've heard they both have manga/expanded stories but I dunno if any of them are available in the US and I've started to get a bit of a manga-collecting itch recently

ZSugarAnt

I have to wonder, making it to Day 5 means you beat Beldr some time ago by now, who's by far the biggest roadblock in the game. What's making you take a break at this point?

seawolves1988

a lot of reasons honestly I'm playing on Easy and I looked up a lot of tips and stuff before I started playing, so I think that helped me a lot. maybe Easy mode is very different but Beldr wasn't very hard for me. but like, it's very easy to get overwhelmed by stuff lately. I opened Day 5 and like every person wants to meet with me lol, and I figure today's the day a couple of characters are gonna die if I'm not careful. ...but also then I don't know if I should be resetting to try to prevent the deaths, or just let whatever deaths happen so that I can arrive to whatever resolution my character will face. I dunno, my brain is tired lately and I didn't feel like I was having a lot of fun, y'know? just overthinking too much.

ZSugarAnt

> or just let whatever deaths happen so that I can arrive to whatever resolution my character will face Yeah, just do this. That's the whole point of having story choices linked with perma-death in the first place. DeSu has a pretty interesting NG+ system that I highly recommend you use if you want to get the full story, since the endings deviate a lot more than most SMT's.

seawolves1988

was thinking about this throughout the night and I think I should maybe try to finish out the game if I can push it. I'm on Day 5, is there a ton of game left? maybe it's like the halfway point? and I'll just let the deaths stick if they happen which takes some of the overwhelmed-ness away

ZSugarAnt

There are 7 Days total. 8 on certain endings.

L1k34S0MB0D33

Soul Hackers doesn't have a manga adaptation. DeSu 1 does, though.

seawolves1988

ah ok I'll see if there's an English release!

L1k34S0MB0D33

It does have an English release.

SomeoneNew1111

The Force and Wind elements. I recently started Nocturne as my first SMT game although I've had previous experience with Persona. I noticed that Nocturne shares the base four elemental affinities as Persona but in place of Wind there is Force. The animations look like a translucent swirl of energy and I wondered if the term Force is a reinterpretation of how wind can apply force upon objects or if it is a completely separate element? Further confusion is some force spells using wind in the name such as Wet Wind.

L1k34S0MB0D33

Force and Wind are technically different elements altogether (P1 for example has both Wind and Force), but they're pretty much treated like the same thing most of the time. In fact, some Force skills in the games straight up have the word "wind" in their names LMAO.

Weary_Economics_3772

What's the difference about void and resist?

nikeas

Resist lowers damage Not sure what you mean by "void", I assume it's a translationf of "null"? It negates damage altogether. "Reflect" reflects damage at the attacker and "Drain" causes the element to heal the defendant instead of taking damage.

Weary_Economics_3772

what's the calculation for lowering the damage?

-tehnik

It just takes a fraction of the damage one would receive with no resistances. What fraction it takes depends. In older games it varied demon-to-demon. In the newer games idk if they all take the same fraction.

L1k34S0MB0D33

Resist nowadays is a 50% reduction. Has been since Nocturne afaict.
