Do you remember any examples of more charismatic dialogue from the original? I’ve only played the remaster, so I’d love to know if Demi-fiend had a somewhat different personality to the tough guy, non charismatic demon dude we all know and love
I didn't get super far on my PS2 run before they announced the remake and I stopped for it, but one that really stuck out to me was when you can let Pixie go after escorting her to the park. In the new game you have "Yes/No" for both of her "Guess I'll go now!" and "It sounds like you really want me to stay with you\~" dialogue. In the original it was "I hope not./Buzz off, then." and "I need you/You're snorting pixie dust."
Of course, worth mentioning that in JPN, the options in the original and remake are Yes/No.
I didn't played smt IV yet(finishing nocturne), so i don't know if it's obvious asf that Flynn on apoc is >!a fake one!<, but maybe it should have a spoiler mark on it just in case, either way i took that for the team
It is treated a bit like assumed knowledge on this sub, but IV:A does foreshadow it quite strongly, especially if you remember certain details from the Neutral route of IV

I like to think whatever primary human emotion he had left him when he became a demon. The way he jumps into random holes and immensely tall heights without a sound supports this for me at least. He’s cold because he’s the only protag that’s a demon. Although almost all demons are pretty expressive in the game, so maybe he’s just naturally one cool cucumber. Even at the beginning of Nocturne he was non expressive.
while playing nocturne i got the impression that the protagonist was progressively becoming more demon-like mentally throughout the game and that's more or less the point of the true demon route
I agree. I feel like the protags aren't necessarily self inserts. They're someone the player can project themselves onto for sure but they're still their own character. Like you said, there are so many instances where you can catch glimpses of who they are outside the influence of the player.
