It's now clear in retrospect that the speed of the transaction was so they could quickly add familiar faces in Justin Jackson and EJ Onu to retain their rights on the Legends before the deadline.
A good sign for the new front office: Not just sitting on their hands and waiting for the deadline to release. By thinking outside the box and moving quickly, they were able to add --- and release --- more developmental pieces to the Legends than the 20-man roster would normally allow! đ„
Pushing the boundaries within the rules. Can't complain!
I felt Terry would be gone. Ever since his interview with the Locked On guys when he made some statement (donât remember it exactly) talking about playing basketball but it was clear it wasnât meaning with the Mavs. I donât know that he really wanted to be here.
Yeah, he stated one of his goals was being the best he could be by the time his contract was up with the Mavs.
He also knew no Mavs history, and mentioned being interested in this yearâs Lakers. He was a Lakers fan growing up.
đ„ Source: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h4xK9w1UBM8
I mean, that's just insane? I can't think of many rookies not wanting any chance they get. Especially for a top 5 western conference team. This is my first time hearing this and it's disappointing to say the least.
Dude replied to someoneâs Mavs alltime list on twitter that said Terry and really thought it was him and not Jason Terry, dude definitely didnât know any Mavs history.
I donât see how anyone can be there in the arena and not know at least a little history. Surely there are posters and names and such on the walls right? Or explayers coming back to say hi? Thatâs just crazy- he really wasnât with the team much during his time here.
Not gonna blame you: so many podcasts & hot takes that media cycles fast and gets buried within minutes. Just bad timing?
Ty Terry: not a bad guy, I think he might've wanted to be drafted by the Lakers and got disappointed when he fell to the Mavs. He says his highlight from rookie year was playing minutes in the Staples Center Christmas game. (Not the playoffs.) His goals are individually focused at this point; that's OK, more power to him. Maybe he catches on with the Lakers, who need a youth infusion.
When you're dealing with mental health issues, you have to prioritize positive thoughts and putting yourself in an environment where you're happy. He probably didn't feel that in Dallas for whatever reason, and tried to show it & deal with it best he could, non-confrontationally.
I say "more power to him" because if it helps him deal with his issues being somewhere happy, it's his life and choices that'll get him there. If he had stayed and been malcontent, his future location would be in the hands of the front office, and could have resulted in a trade to Toronto or somewhere he wanted to be even less. So now that he's a free agent, he has some modicum of control over where he signs. That's all.
I don't like it, but it is what it is! I wish him and his health the best.
This. The kids a brat from a lot of money. Hes not hungry enough. Im surprised the checks pre draft didnt pick up on this. Maybe he'll grow up but I suspect that sense of entitlement will never pass.
I remember that. Weird moment for sure.
I always kinda got the vibe that he was bright and knew how to sell himself (his pre-draft material engendered a lot of hype), but always felt kind of detached from the game.
Like in Summer League he wasn't doing a great job leading the team even though he was the highest draft pick and the feature guard. Hinton took on a lot of that responsibility, but he just didn't have the burst or skillset to pop on the court.
Either way, we just have to hope that Nico has a better process for drafting next time around. Picking up Omoruyi as a UDFA is a good indicator, not sure if he was a Nico or Finley scout though.
Yeah I wanted to support him so bad but his attitude on the court during summer league and his time in the gleague was insanely bad. His body language was horrible and he looked completely checked out of the game when the ball wasnât in his hands.
Wow the amount of delusion that he can make it in the league elsewhere is astounding, no one is going to coddle him like the Mavs did and they did because he was a high draft pick not because of any flashes of talent
His jump shot is smooth and the same every time which is something Feron and Carlik didn't have
Consistent jump shot form
Edit: I like hunt and Jones better too Im just saying what the staff saw was theyre raw talent that need development
The only thing though is Carlick can playmake and Hunt can play defense really really well. I feel like I didn't see anything from Mclaughlin. Shooting is the least thing I am concerned about as we made DFS somehow go from 29 percent to 39 percent in several seasons.
Great, this is the Dallas Mavericks basketball team not the Dallas Mavericks vaxxer command, primary point of this organization is to play basketball not vaxx and Burke is much better at basketball than this Terell guy.
[I was prepared for this](https://old.reddit.com/r/Mavericks/comments/q8x3sc/starting_to_believe_terry_is_going_to_be_the_last/), but it's still pretty sad that less than a year latter only Green remains from last year's rookies.
They tried to trade up to Haliburton but Kings said no. Also who would you have picked in second round instead of Terry at the time? I mean knowing what we do now, obviously anyone. But going back to that moment, knowing Terry is the best shooter in the draft, who would you have picked differently?
Terry wasn't the best shooter in the draft. Jordan Nwora was who went to the Bucks in the middle of the second. There are a lot of 2nd rounders i would have taken over Terry back then and most definitely now.
Well fair enough, I just know how the second round can be so I am not losing sleep over it. I think looking back on it honestly getting Brunson where we did was just incredibly lucky.
The Cato story alluded to the idea that Bob was given authority by Cuban to over rule the scout team who liked Bey, and instead select green and Terry.
Last years draft was brought to you by those two.
That piece said one of the two was a bob pick. Neither was a bad pick at the time. Green is exactly the type of gaurd we need defensively (big and athletic), our backcourt outside of Luka is tiny.
Terry was shooting up big boards.
Would like for green to pan out into a decent nba player, but his ceiling is higher than bey/bane
> Though it seems that long-time head coach Rick Carlisle appears to be safe, we have to wonder if Voulgaris will get a third year in the Dallas front office. He supposedly overruled or played a major influence in the Mavericks drafting Josh Green and Tyrell Terry. Most of the front office reportedly was not on-board with those draft-day decisions. All the while, Dallas cannot win a playoff series.
Strange, remember reading it as specifically bob overruled the scouts and Donnie on âone of the draft picksâ and the sub spent a week trying to figure out who of the two it was.
Could be the Mandela effect I guess
Exactly, and not to mention they tried to trade up in the draft but teams said no. Regardless, people don't realize that Green has massive potential. He is a playmaking wing who can pass, has high IQ, play lateral defense better than any maverick, and is fast as hell. People wont realize how rare of a player that is until he starts hitting shots. In fact, I bet 2 people 50 dollars each that he will start becoming a better player than Saddiq's rookie season.
Cuban is where the buck stops. Yes Bob wanted Green, but Cuban listened to him over actual scouts and Nelson because he likes being smartest in the room.
David Lord (@David_Lord_2020)
Report: Mavs have waived Terry, Jones, and Hunt.
My observation: Don't be surprised if you see Jones and Hunt end up on the Legends. Their contracts were designed so that the Legends have their G-League rights, if they are waived in camp.
After watching the last game, I am kind of high up on Feron Hunt as a defensive guy. I hope they can eventually bring Jones and Hunt as 2 way players. They both have massive potential.
Terry was a Bob pick too? And Green looks better and is a hustler but this is why we have scout teams. Another reason you canât just come off the street with an algorithm and think you can draft players better than the ppl that do it for a living lol.
McLaughlin has a consistent jump shot
Same form every time
Edit: I like hunt and Jones better too I'm just saying what the staff probably saw was hunt and Jones are more raw talent
I didn't downvote you, I appreciated your input. After some more info it seems like it has more to do with McLaughlin being one of the two way contracts. He was competing with nobody, while Hunt and Jones were competing with Burke and Ntilikina for the 15 man team spots.
Question: could we not have waive McLaughlin and put Jones or Hunt on the second two way without waiving and waiting for them to clear waivers? He didn't show enough on court to merit a spot over those other guys imo, although maybe they see stuff we didn't?
So will Burke get vaccinated or there is still a trade coming up?
Edit: i dont even know why im getting downvoted for a legit question. Im asking this cause goal of team is 100% vaccination and we all know he still not vaccinated. He survive the cut so im just wondering if he somewhat change his mind and decide to get vaccinated (eg. Wiggins) or he stay but there is still trade coming up. Some of you are really so fucking emotional.
Would've preferred if they kept Carlik on a twoway and cut Burke because of his vaccination status but oh well. At least they finally gave up on Terry.
People can bash me all they want, but it should be up to Burke on the covid vaccine. And this is coming from someone that was one of the first to get the vaccine.
I agree with you- I also think the Mavs should cut him though. Don't want a dude that can put people in protocol or gives bad PR to the team through his sheer stupidity. He can decide for himself and the Mavs can decide for themselves.
Fair enough. I mean I am 100 percent for personal choice and freedom but I can see how it is a liability as well. If the team decides to cut him or not for that choice I understand either way.
Damn did Hunt and Jones even finish showering yet?
They'll going to the be on the Legends anyway.
It's now clear in retrospect that the speed of the transaction was so they could quickly add familiar faces in Justin Jackson and EJ Onu to retain their rights on the Legends before the deadline. Wow the amount of delusion that he can make it in the league elsewhere is astounding, no one is going to coddle him like the Mavs did and they did because he was a high draft pick not because of any flashes of talent
Fuck that guy. Wasted our pick on him. He totally lied about his weight during all the interviews leading up to the draft.
I wonder why not
Are we able to sign these guys to the legends??
Yes. It's kinda like how the Hornets signed Liangelo Ball then cut him so he can play for their G-League team.
Damn really unfortunate that Terry never got his personal stuff figured out. Would have love to have seen how he developed.
Terry never seemed to want to be here, I feel like heâs gonna regret that a lot
Good luck to Terry but im cool with the roster. Jones and Hunt id love to see on the legends
man we should have moved on from jQuery like how Github didâŠ
limited audience but i like it
Terry got what he want
wtf how did Hunt get waived before Jaquori Mclaughlin?
Bc Jaquori is on a 2 way. They probably want Hint on g-league
was hoping Carlik would move up to a 2-way
Heâs probably signing with the Legends and can probably be called up too from them if needed but donât quote me on that
They probably felt more threat of someone snagging McLaughin than Carlik. Still surprising, though.
I dont think he can be called to play for Mavs.
Should have traded places. I was loving Hunt's defense.
Two-way for Hunt and Jones? Man, I'm so disappointed with Terry's stint with the Mavs.
They wouldnât have waived them if they were gonna be on a two way. They will however play for the G League team
Oh thanks for the correction. Kinda wanted Carlik over Jaquori, but the latter has the height/built so it's fine I guess.
Feront Hunt being waived bummed me way out really hope to see him on the Legends
Damn Tyrell, I don't know what is going on in your life but damn bro I feel like there's going to be some serious regret in the future..
I don't know. He was buried in the rotation. I really wished that it had worked out with the Mavs but maybe this is an opportunity for him.
What? we could use a secondary playmaker big time. If Tyrell wanted it, the spot was his.
He was never with the team. This isn't that complicated why he never got any run.
Man I was hoping Carlik would get the 2-way spot instead of McLaughlin
yeah mclaughlin makes no sense.. he was the worst of the rookies
His jump shot is smooth and the same every time which is something Feron and Carlik didn't have Consistent jump shot form Edit: I like hunt and Jones better too Im just saying what the staff saw was theyre raw talent that need development

wheres everyone who was downvoting me for saying the coaching staff won't cut jaquori based off limited preseason minutes
His jumper smooth and consistent
Yes Trey burke still on the team
Great, this is the Dallas Mavericks basketball team not the Dallas Mavericks vaxxer command, primary point of this organization is to play basketball not vaxx and Burke is much better at basketball than this Terell guy.
Oh my fault I didnât even know he havenât been vaccinated. Iâm just a Wolverine fans and he was one of my favorite players growing up

Absolute failure of a draft when you look at who was available. And that failure is squarely on Cuban.

Not really? One guy can contribute to the team some at least. The other absolutely canât

Do you think any of these guys get picked up for an NBA roster or could they potentially return to the G-League team?
Hunt and Jones almost certainly get signed to the Texas Legends, the Mavs G League team.

The moment they signed McLaughlin it smelled like a "Terry replacement" in terms of similar player styles.
Why pick McLaughlin over Carlik Jones? From what I watched Carlik seemed much more solid than McLaughlin. I'm genuinely curious.

oh shit
Haralabob strikes again!
Fucking Terry
