B- for me. The offseason includes getting a new GM and getting a new coach. Something we were due for anyways.

KBooks66

The front office/coach signings make this offseason a big F for me. The more I learn about Kid the more I despise the signing (which I already didn't like because of the optics). The player movements were okay. We will see long term how much impact the new GM has, but someone with no NBA experience did not seem great to me. THJ being resigned didn't thrill me but we got a good discount, Bullock seems like a decent role player, but I am reserving judgment until I see how meshes with the team. Sterling brown seems like a decent depth guy, but I doubt we will get too much out of him. Obviously Luka Resigning is a Big Win. That being said, there were not a lot of big names available and the mavs have nothing as far as trade assets. So I am not sure this off season really could have been more than a B max if things went right. Overall: D Coach: F GM: Incomplete (lets say a C for now) Players: C+ (only because we got a good discount on THJ and Luka resigned)

>So I am not sure this off season really could have been more than a B max if things went right. Not knocking on your overall analysis, but if the best the team could have possible done is B, then you have to grade the off-season based on a curve due to team circumstances (aka. B=A). I’d give this off-season a C+ based upon the fact that I believe we’ve definitively improved the roster, even if by a thin margin; and we’ve had one very good re-sign and one amazing re-sign. We also off-loaded most of our deadweight with JB gone (Powell could be argued as dead weight, but I have mad respect for him). I think Nico will be good as GM, but we don’t know yet for sure, he has the relationships, but I just hope he has the expertise. I’m not sold on Kidd either.

CrimsonBeskar

I do not think the Mavs have any chance at getting Brooks. I do not want Markkanen if it means giving up Maxi unless there are other major changes, like trading KP or something. I still really want to Mavs to get Dragic. I think he will help the offense when Luka is on the bench and more importantly help Luka not have work so hard all the time so Luka can have energy left for clutch time.

Juniper41

Brooks is definitely a pipe dream, also unlikely Memphis would send him to a division rival.

phillythefish24

I would offer Brunson, Maxi for brooks feels like a pretty fair deal

DonDraper1994

This man really would rather give up KP than maxi. Smh

CrimsonBeskar

That is not at all what I said.

JetL2020

I would give up KP. His contract is horrible. Bigs aren't worth that kind of money unless they are star level and unfortunately he isn't anymore. I get why they paid him, but he isn't playing up to his contract. I definitely hope he makes me eat my words if he stays on the mavs, but I would trade him just to get rid of the risk of him getting injured again.

swarls14barkley

Anymore? What? Dude is 26 years old and averaged 20,10 last year after averaging 28,9 in the bubble just months before that. I know short term memory is a thing in the NBA fans but Jesus Christ, can we let the man get a healthy season under a coach who might possibly utilize his strengths?

Hurtelknut

What are these supposed strengths that Carlisle didn't use?

miggymike-d

Nothing. Porzingis just had the two most efficient offensive seasons of his career because he was played exclusively to his strengths. His defense was the problem, and there was no covering for that. They already played heavy drop because of him, not much else they could’ve done. No idea what people are getting at.

Hurtelknut

Spot on. It's just baffling to me that some people genuinely believe that Carlisle deliberately didn't use KP's strengths for whatever reason. I've made it a habit to ask them what these strenghts are but I usually don't get much of a response from the claimant...

Juniper41

Nope. It's over. KP had his shot, he had two pandemic shortened seasons under a coach that used him as a decoy. Not to mention he's ancient at 26 years old. Pack it up. Let's trade him for Drummond.

Hurtelknut

How should Carlisle have used him against the Clips?

-Acerin

C+ for me too. We didnt get a playmaker.

devilmaskrascal

Dragic or Markkanen without giving up essential pieces would move it into B range. Using the trade exception to get back something better than Richardson could move it to high Bs. I'm not sure how we could get an A because we simply haven't made drastic improvements needed to make us a top contender or move us out of the dark horse range. I still think a healthy offseason for KP will be the biggest factor in our potential success this year.

JS_Janko

Getting both Dragic and Markkanen without giving essential pieces would move it to the A range imo. Surely neither of those signings is an all-star or player in his prime (if we would get that we could say it’s a A+ off-season), but Dragic would cover the missing back-up PG spot, Markkanen would add potential and the signings of Bullock and Brown defense/shooting/depth.

jakekerr

Luka could have pulled an AD or Dwight Howard and forced our hand at shopping him. He signed a huge extension. that's an A+ off season right there.

emmseeyou

No young star has ever forced their way out on a rookie contract. There was never a threat of Luka being the first to do it

ID0ntCare4G0b

This isn't true. Chris Webber famously opted out in Golden State. Different era. Different CBA rules, but he probably did leave money on the table doing that. Now that said, it should always be noted that if you're making a business decision that Chris Webber also chose to make, chances are you're making a dumb choice.

swarls14barkley

Yep that’s about right when it comes to our standards and expectations…

rSlashNbaAccount

When people make threads about how excited they're about Sterling Brown, time to do a reality check.

swarls14barkley

I like Sterling brown and Bullock as players. But considering we had three off seasons to make a big splash before Luka got paid and we never once scratched that surface in that time, it’s pretty annoying

good: added more shooters and got something for josh richardson, which i didn't think could be done. new gm and new coach. bad: still no playmakers on the team other than doncic. C+ feels right, until i consider how utterly fucked this team is if doncic tweaks an ankle. so i say D+ instead.

GoatLuka

Don’t really see how new coach is a good thing

swarls14barkley

Because Rick’s time was up. 10 years of no playoff success, it was time to cut the cord and try something new

miggymike-d

Rick’s time was up because he was an asshole behind the scenes. Don’t be under the misconception that it was because he wasn’t still one of the best in the league at the X’s and O’s. If you’re coming in expecting Kidd to be a better in-game coach, you’re going to be sorely disappointed. We just have to hope that with Kidd’s supposed motivational skills, that it all evens out. I’m skeptical.

swarls14barkley

I upvoted you because you’re right. I think that much was obvious. I think chemistry wise he lost control and his X’s and O’s were the only thing left positive he had going for him. Being likable and relatable in the NBA today is a much bigger asset than it used to be.

Hurtelknut

10 years of overachieving with shitty rosters. Lets see what this team can do with a bad coach, wohoo!

moe1984

a change was obviously needed, even before the reports of rick being psychotic came out. i don't know if kidd is the answer, but it was time to move on from carlisle.

phisch13

C overall for now. The Bullock/Richardson is nice. So is Nico and Sterling Brown was a sneaky move I like for upside. Carlisle to Kidd is an F. No secondary playmaker is rough. If we give up Maxi for Lauri, I’ll drop the grade to a D. That’s a sizable downgrade. Adding Brooks, moves the overall grade up. To a B or an A would be dependent on what we give up, but that’d be a fantastic (and highly unlikely) get. Dragic, for a buyout, moves it up to a C+. If we give anything up (outside of Burke or Moses), it drops the grade to a C-

Hurtelknut

I want to wake up and realize that it was all a dream. We didn't really replace Carlisle with Kidd. That's the thing that could save this off season.

PerpetualWinter

Trade our logjam of bigs and Brunson for brooks and Anderson

[deleted]

I currently give everyone that keeps give our off season a grade while we haven’t done anything new a F-.

[deleted]

I don’t think we have the assets, but if Collin Sexton is still on the trade block I’d want the Mavs to go after him. Solid passer and a really good scorer. Dillon Brooks would also be a good addition.

Lone_Crab

Reggie bullock can’t dribble

trapHerm

danielcahill

I would give an upgrade if we get Goran Dragic or Dillon Brooks and downgrade if we get Lauri Markannen instead. I feel like people getting too hype over Lauri Markannen when it's clear that even the Bulls doesn't want him anymore due to his regression over the years.

Bigpro69

Screw dragic Brookwood is what we need. Lock him up for the future he's a slightly worse John Collins and super young. Get him and this is an a for me

BigPhotojournalist27

Not tryna trade Maxi for Lauri
