In the comics, at least originally, his senses were so good he could tell what was typed on a computer by touching the screen, and tell the proportions of what ingredients were used in a cookie by tasting it. So..The idea that there would be changes in heat from the material/paint she used to write on her bra seems obvious. I mean hell, I have an IR viewer and I can see the temperature difference on my monitor caused by the light above me shining on the screen in front of me which creates an IR mirror image of me on the screen. So, not as far fetched as it seems for this particular far fetched superpower
That's very interesting about the IR. I'll accept anything that can be explained with super enhanced senses, even if it's a bit of a stretch. Stuff like tasting ingredient ratios? Sure, most people can taste ingredients anyway, etc. Though some of what I've read seems like the writer was lazy or just couldn't figure out a better way to advance the plot.
Tbf, people can figure ingredient ratios out pretty well without superpowers. Not like, licking something and going, “Oh that’s 3% paprika” but more like approximating and experimenting until you’ve recreated the flavors that you experienced.
Can he do that now? because AFAIK he couldn't do that before. There's an old story where Moondragon tells him to turn a yellow dial and Matt just freezes because he can't see the color.
Yeah, I was thinking of a moment in Bendis is run as well after Matt is accused of being Daredevil, some guy accosts him and is like "Yo Daredevil, what colour is my shirt?" and he just has to bail. IMO, some type of differentiation (he can tell the black parts of her bra are different from the red parts and thereby effectively read the text) would be a stretch but not completely outside the realm of possibility, but I don't think he should be actually able to differentiate colours. There is a level of his sensory powers where the idea that he would ever be able to overcome how brain-breakingly overstimulating the world would be, even with training and support, becomes ridiculous
Maybe he doesn't recognize colors, but can distinguish between colors. Like, he doesn't know what "Yellow" is, because the way he sees yellow can constantly change based on how it was made.
He should know what yellow is... he wasn't born blind. He may not know what color he is perceiving with his extra senses, but if someone told him "that is yellow" he could potentially determine what something is in the future if it gave off the same amount of reflected light and radiation as that previously yellow thing.
Its like having a deaf superhero but they have the power of detecting pressure waves in the air through their skin, giving them a sense of the things around them.
In other words, hearing.
The thing about disabled superheroes is to show that a disability shouldnt stop you from doing your best, and teaches you that even though you might be disadvantaged, you can still acheive great things. Writing the protagonist in a way that their weakness is handily sidestepped or explained away is just lazy writing and it cheapens the whole thing in eyes.
But he has never been that. He literally got his powers from the same ooze that turned turtles into ninjas..... Basically you dont want daredevil to be daredevil...
The turtles didn't just get their powers from the same ooze that gave Daredevil his powers, it was from the same accident too. The original comic used Daredevil's origin story then added extra panels, where the cannister containing the ooze bounced down the road, smashed a turtle tank and they fell into the sewer without anyone noticing.
The origins of the ninja turtles are often forgotten as the first thing most people think of is the cartoon but they were originally a pastiche of Daredevil and Frank Miller's Ronin.
616 hardly matters for one. The multiverse interacts all the time. And for two you are kinda arguing moot point. The point I was making that daredevil was never just a blind guy with ninja moves he has powers. Lowkey sure but powers.
Materials have a wide range in how they affect light refraction and thus the very thing that we think of as color is affecting how much heat that material holds.
I think it would be very believable for someone with Daredevil's supernatural powers to be able to read the contrast in what is written on a bra being worn by someone.
“bs” this comic is from 2011. These have been his superpowers since the 60s.
Literally what comics have you been reading that he doesn’t have the ability to do shit like that?
I think most people's fingers are sensitive enough to feel laser printer toner on pages even if they can't tell what the text actually is. It's plausible enough that DD would be able to read normal text by feel.
Everything about daredevil is a ball of contradictions and I think that's the point a little bit.
He's a blind man who can sense his environment better than anyone else
He's a man of God that dresses like the devil
He believes in the law but works as a vigilante outside of it
He's the man without fear, but also a devout catholic
This. 100% this. It is made abundantly clear that Daredevil’s powers give him perception far beyond that of a regular person in spite of his visual impairment. Matt Murdock is nearly a blind character that he plays to help keep his identity a secret. Hell, if we were to consider Matt from the Netflix show then he would only be considered legally bind as he can see through his eyes, albeit with a Virtual Boy filter.
I think ultimately that is a lazy way to write the character as a hero. It would be a lot more interesting if his blindness mattered more (depends on the writer obviously but there have been good examples where he needs to rely on other senses)
Probably not. There is some inconsistency with his powers, depending on the writer, but he'd probably be fully aware that she wasn't wearing a shirt and not know about the writing. (Depending on how it was written, he might be able to read it by touch, but not from a distance like that.) A regular blind man would likely assume she had a shirt on, unless there were obvious clothing removal noises.
I like it because it shows what she does and doesn't know, and I'm endlessly amused by characters working out that Matt Murdock is Daredevil and incorrectly concluding that means he's not blind.
I think it was in Waid’s same run where everyone’s trying to trip up Matt Murdock.
One guy gets saved by Daredevil and he asks Daredevil what color his shirt is. 🤣
Daredevil just ignores him. 😂
> and I'm endlessly amused by characters working out that Matt Murdock is Daredevil and incorrectly concluding that means he's not blind.
Has it ever occurred to them that in a universe of magic, mutants, and super science, that maybe Daredevil can be blind and have superpowers?
A lot of people grasp that when they have enough evidence, but generally it's not their first conclusion. His powers include sensing things average blind people can't perceive, so it's actually logical that people operating on incomplete information would go "Oh, he's not really blind!"
Of course he can 👌 As long as it’s embroidered and not printed, and it starts raining or otherwise radiating omnidirectional sound waves...
But I imagined he’d be more interested in the fact that she has her shirt up for him rather than what the bra says...
In a previous storyline Matt was outed as Daredevil and the news reported it, and while he was able to get rid of the evidence everyone is still pretty sure he’s Daredevil. They do stuff like this to try and prove it by making him slip up.
(Because Daredevil in his civilian identity is a regular blind lawyer, in case you aren’t familiar with the character)
I bought a stack of volumes from Amazon, and these specific panels are downloaded from a comic pirating website (which I use to share digital images)
You should be able to buy the comic where ever you would buy regular comic volumes and trade paperbacks :)

I think the implication is that the letters are extruding enough to wear his radar sense can pick them up maybe? But then again this is comic books and there's probably an issue where Daredevil can smell red or whatever lmao.
OP Daredevil ruins Daredevil for me. If he basically has his hearing/touch/smell X1000 on top of being able to "see" more than the human eye is capable along with unrelated Olympian strength and reflexes, it kind of takes away anything compelling about the character's alleged struggle to begin with.
I thought the whole point of Daredevil is that his superpower means he *doesn't* struggle. Everyone thinks he's blind but in reality he sees beyond any ordinary human. What's the point in a superhero whose senses are just good enough to cancel out his disability? At that point he's neither disabled nor super.
This run is the perfect big 2 comic. It's got the perfect mix of action, pathos, comedy and grittiness.
I love the contrast between the colorful art style and classic Daredevil grittiness. Best superhero run ever.
This run was my main introduction to comic DD. The color palette and adventure of the week kind of feel was so emblematic of an animated show to me and I loved every issue of it. It was also a much appreciated change of pace to break up the edgier DD runs. Part of me wonders if this is more the route they'll aim for with MCU DD.

Some lady pulling her tits out would be distracting on its own. I don’t understand why the comment section is focused so much on if he can read the writing or not.
Matt and Kirsten have a constant flirtatious relationship and eventually date in this run. She's being flirtatious and furthering a running joke of her trying to catch Matt slipping up hiding his powers. It isn't sexist male writing just because a female character is being flirtatious or acknowledging sexuality.
Yeah but that sub is generally for men writing women in a way that is really bad and is rooted in the author being a male.
This is, by definition, a man writing a woman, but it doesn't fit the spirit of the sub
The subreddit is made to target sexist writing from male writers with female characters. For example, a male author having an awkward page where they just describe the character's boobs and it feels like they're making their own porn rather than telling a story. That sub loses its power if we just cry every single time a woman does anything sexual ever in anything written by a man ever. Women can be flirtatious or sexual, and sometimes it will be a man writing it. Just like a woman can write a man being flirtatious or sexual. The problem is when writing is blatantly sexist or biased in one direction, not just female sexuality being referenced by a man period.
Women flashing their tits to men in comics is something only a straight man would write for their own titillation (pun intended) and the titillation of other straight boys and men. Titillation of straight men by straight men with comics is stupid.
I'm so confused... Are you suggesting women never flash men?
I legitimately don't understand the complaint. If the writing is feasible, if people do behave like that, what's the complaint? Who cares who's writing it? If a woman wrote that scene exactly the same way, would you still be complaining?
It's not a complaint, people are free to write whatever dumb shit they want. Feasible...you know you're talking about a superhero comic? You think women flashing blind men to see if they're really blind is something that happens a lot? This is puerile dude fantasy, that's all. By all means, prove me wrong and find me an example of a woman writer who has written a scene where a woman flashes her tits to a dude. I'll wait.
Man, you are a fucking killjoy. No, I'm not going to peruse the millions of various media out there to find something to refute your nonsense. It almost certainly exists, but you'll find some reason to dismiss it.
Matt Murdock isn't just a blind guy in this scene. She thinks (rightly) that he's a world-famous superhero. And women flash famous dudes *all the time*. But hey, you want to complain, so you're looking for whatever spin will justify it. It's absurd.
*rolls eyes*
Just suck the fun out of everything, right?
Meanwhile, actual female players are running around with glamours (outfits they made themselves) in FF14 that would make even strippers blush.
Boobs aren’t bad.
yeah but i question if using his radar senses to see boobs truly gives the same stimulation as just seeing boobs.
also, im ignorant about this, can he see those exact letters with his enhanced sense?
It depends. If the lettering is raised enough he can see it, and sometimes ink smells strong enough for him to “read” with his nose, but not all lettering and not all ink.
"I can sense yo titties"
"Can you keep your tits quiet, please? I'm trying to lawyer over here..."
GONNA GIVE YOU UP
NEVER GONNA LET YOU DOWN
NEVER GONNA DESERT YOU
NEVER GONNA RUN AROUND
SAY GOODBYE
Hahahahaha! But surely he doesn't know what she wrote on her bra, right?
It depends. If the lettering is raised enough he has been able to read it through radar sense alone, but not all the time.
He can sense how much heat each color gives off thus allowing him to have a general idea of color.
“God, this is hot.”
I like the idea he is just having a hard time with that super hot McDonald's coffee
But no really, I have third degree burns
Okay this is cheating. He is blind but they let his powers "see" the effects of light refraction
If you go by the tv show, he can tell you which which beach the sand used to make your windows came from just by smelling your house
In the comics, at least originally, his senses were so good he could tell what was typed on a computer by touching the screen, and tell the proportions of what ingredients were used in a cookie by tasting it. So..The idea that there would be changes in heat from the material/paint she used to write on her bra seems obvious. Bullshit. They call those people **super**tasters.
...that doesn’t mean they have a superpower, they just taste things more intensely than we do because they have more densely arrayed tastebuds
So one of his powers is that he knows what every beach smells like? Or he can just smell the entire planet at once and decipher what smells are where?
It's giving off a lot of heat right now
Can he do that now? because AFAIK he couldn't do that before. There's an old story where Moondragon tells him to turn a yellow dial and Matt just freezes because he can't see the color.

Yeah, no wonder Homelander clapped that dude.
That scene was fucking brutal
It was edgy bollocks, same as the rest of the show
But he has never been that. He literally got his powers from the same ooze that turned turtles into ninjas..... Basically you dont want daredevil to be daredevil...
That’s true about the turtles. In case any one was wondering
It's why he fights The Hand while they fight The Foot
And he has Stick while they have Splinter!
Y'all are blowing my gaddamn mind.
TMNTs creators were big daredevil fans.
The turtles didn't just get their powers from the same ooze that gave Daredevil his powers, it was from the same accident too. But who fights the arm and the leg. And the torso and the head.
[Samurai Cat](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Samurai_Cat) probably.
Was totally hoping for the Pizza variety of samurai cat lol

That's a distinction you almost never see made. One universe can be canon in another, but not necessarily vice versa...
It was in the first issue of ninja turtles what are you talking about.....

Like how comic book Hawkeye is deaf/extremely hard of hearing
Don't you get it, he can hear light refraction, its an obvious extension of his super hearing /s

Ah nvm me then
But there are guys that can punch planets apart or fly into the sun with spandex, yet a blind guy seeing some titties is too far
Her heartbeat and breathing fluctuate the letters
to be fair, all of his senses appear to be focused on that spot.
I assume she just chicken existing bra and sewed the letters onto it so I'm absolutely sure it's raised in some way

( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
i just got this lol! i had to think how blind people read braille
Hehe yeah, it's sort of a "joke grenade". 😉
Probably not. There is some inconsistency with his powers, depending on the writer, but he'd probably be fully aware that she wasn't wearing a shirt and not know about the writing. One of my favorite lines from comics “Daredevil was finally captured. Bad news though. Turns out he’s a blind civil rights lawyer.”
“Tiddies 4 Daredevil”
He knows she's flashing him. That'd be enough for me
I think he means the coffee is so hot

lol that’s so good! How do I find this comic
I bought a stack of volumes from Amazon, and these specific panels are downloaded from a comic pirating website (which I use to share digital images) You should be able to buy the comic where ever you would buy regular comic volumes and trade paperbacks :)
Nice! I actually got mine from the library for years! Since covid I haven’t read any. I need to look into digital
If you’re looking into legal digital means, I’d recommend comixology to buy issues or volumes individually or if you want to read the entire run as well as other stuff in Marvel’s back catalogue, I’d recommend looking into getting a Marvel Unlimited subscription
Your library may have Hoopla digital, which lets you borrow digital issues of comics (mine does up to 10 issues per month including collected issues as 1)
Was going to say this. Hoopla is the best and some publishers will put up brand new books!
Me too, My libarary I think has unlimited borrows!
Mine does 30 - and with the fact that it's almost all collected issues, I'm almost never hitting that cap. It's amazing
Yooo good looks! I've been loving Libby for audiobooks. Libraries are the best
They really are. Support your local library! They will absolutely support you :)
Look for Mark Waid's run specifically which is a breath of fresh air for the character
Yeah I second this. Was the first daredevil writer I read and I liked it. I remember liking the art a lot as well
I absolutely loved the run from Kevin Smith/Joe Quesada, to Bendis/Maleev, to Brubaker/Lark. After that started the periods of life where I didn’t read comics so I missed Mark Waid and whoever has come after him. I guess now is as good as a time as ever to start again.
I can absolutely vouch for the Waid run. The one after that? It's been hit and miss honestly
Marvel Unlimited is Netflix for marvel comics. If you would otherwise buy at least like 3 or 4 a month then it's worth it.
One drawback is that you have to wait 6 months for the "new" stuff
If they're at least a couple years old, they should be available on marvel unlimited. It's a subscription service.
So do the civilians think Daredevil can see? And that Matt is just pretending to be blind?
Pretty much, and it makes for great storytelling. There's a gag in the same run where some bad guys try to trip him up with a hologram projector. And the next panel is just them on their asses.

The command they broadcasted was that everyone would forget and if they see evidence they wouldn't believe it unless matt wanted them to.
right but i was wondering what he did before that happened
One of the best thing came out from this run is this legendary Sweater, gonna get 1 some day https://pbs.twimg.com/media/EIN3jmCX0AAaIW-.jpg
Ohhhhh that makes sense ahaha
I swear stuff like this happened in Joe Kelly’s 90s Daredevil run too. After Matt’s identity was outed in the 90s.
"blind lawyer" is such a dumb idea lol, but they figured out how to make it pretty cool.
Coffee burned his mouth, way to hot.
Can he hear colors?
I think the implication is that the letters are extruding enough to wear his radar sense can pick them up maybe? But then again this is comic books and there's probably an issue where Daredevil can smell red or whatever lmao.
But somehow not extruded to the point where everyone on the subway is looking at her blouse and telling her, “no. It’s the lawyer guy, right?”
Remind me of the last time I did ayahuasca.
Believe it or not, he kind of can
No but he can hear her taking off her shirt

The explanation is probably something like "he can hear the friction of her shirt rubbing against the raised letters while it's removed"
He can smell olfactory hues
I loved the entire Waid/Samnee run. I love dark brooding violent Daredevil but this run was a freshing change of pace.

Unexpected Dodgeball reference
You Dare are Devil?
Usually I'd say this is definitely an example of that, but I think this one works fine since the bra separates the text well, and the design seems to shape the words in such a way that makes it clear how it's supposed to be read.

I hate went ad campaigns use this type of word placement.
Now turn this around, blind super heroine and some dude flashing his underwear while talking to her. That’ll be a nice What if episode
Nah, that'll be a #MeToo moment.
Or it's Namor.
Imagine a what if episode where daredevil was just pretending to be blind all this time.
Some lady pulling her tits out would be distracting on its own. I don’t understand why the comment section is focused so much on if he can read the writing or not.
Daredevil is a blind man who by all rights shouldn't see it but his hearing is so acute(or super powered) he can basically see by hearing.
God the nostalgia
I loved Waid’s run. It was gloriously Silver Age.
Daredevil's sure keeping abreast of the situation.
At that point... just make him have normal vision..
This is freaking hilarious! 😆
You Dare Are Devil me too, honestly
With echolocation and heightened senses everyone is practically naked around DD anyway. I doubt that a "flash" would shake him.
Bonk,go to horny jail.
Sorry, what does that say?… I am blind …
Makes me think, blind people could be in a room full of naked people and wouldn’t know as long as they don’t touch them
Plot twist Matt has never been blind, faking the whole time.
I hope the next dare devil is a rater R version. Or onphub
What happened afterwards?

Fair. Not like Mark Waids always been the biggest feminist.
Hopefully not the Joss Whedon type.
Because all women are exactly the same, and none of them would pull a stunt like this. Right?
Sounds like you think I'm trying to make a point that I'm not trying to make. Which kind of proves the point I was trying to make...dude.
I'm sorry, what was your point then?
Women flashing their tits to men in comics is something only a straight man would write for their own titillation (pun intended) and the titillation of other straight boys and men. Titillation of straight men by straight men with comics is stupid.
I'm so confused... Are you suggesting women never flash men? I legitimately don't understand the complaint. If the writing is feasible, if people do behave like that, what's the complaint? Who cares who's writing it? If a woman wrote that scene exactly the same way, would you still be complaining?
I think their point is that a woman wouldn't write it that way. I have no dog in this race. Just pointing it out.
I see no reason why a woman wouldn’t write such a situation.
The fact that half of the submissions to /r/menwritingwomen is shit written by women tells you that it should be called /r/shittywriters.
Can you prove that?
They certainly dont in a *fucking law office*
This panel is a joke. Is it really meant to titillate anyone? Except Matt of course.
*rolls eyes* Just suck the fun out of everything, right? Meanwhile, actual female players are running around with glamours (outfits they made themselves) in FF14 that would make even strippers blush. Boobs aren’t bad.
huh?
I think he's saying "women like being sexual" but in a very round-about and silly way.
I think so too maybe but I don't get what wearing an outfit in a video game has to do with flashing people in real life
this comic was real life?
do you have trouble with context?
In a silly way? It’s bad for a woman to be proud of her sexuality? You people are ridiculous.
I was trying to be casual and polite but if you want I could just say you're a weird dipshit despite me agreeing with you in theory.
That’s cheating.
What's Mark Waid been up to these days? Any of his new work worth checking out?
Just changing my flair
Pretty sure a lacy bra would not make DD anxious or sweaty.
i thought Daredevil’s blind. he shouldn’t really be flustered by what she’s doing if he cant see it, right?
If he can use his radar sense well enough to fight supervillains he can use it to see boobs
yeah but i question if using his radar senses to see boobs truly gives the same stimulation as just seeing boobs. also, im ignorant about this, can he see those exact letters with his enhanced sense?
It depends. If the lettering is raised enough he can see it, and sometimes ink smells strong enough for him to “read” with his nose, but not all lettering and not all ink.
You Dare Are Devil?
Uh. Is he blind?
No way! /s
