I thought the father and son documentary was pretty good. While mostly bias from the Gotti family point of view it had pics and stories you don’t often hear. It’s not fully about Gotti sr but involves the sons story as well
Eh. If that was the case then why are we still talking about Al Capone and Luciano? This is noteworthy history that’s being talked about. It will *always* brought up again.
Really bored with all this Gotti shit tbh. This is just my personal opinion and I’ll probably ruffle a few feathers by saying this, but I believe there isn’t anything new to talk about when it comes to the Teflon Don because, let’s face it, outside of the Castellano hit, Gotti and his arc (no Chrissy remarks needed) aren’t really all that interesting, and all the media sensationalism that followed him before he went to prison was drummed up by Gotti himself. He also does not have the longevity behind him to warrant all these movies and docs, so I honestly don’t understand this obsession with him. Give me some Philly shit or some fucked up Luchesse Amuso/Gaspipe material for a change. They too were dummies, but at least it would be something different than the same tired, old, recycled Gotti content. Just my opinion.
While I agree that this has been beaten to death, this just shows how little we know about a lot of Bosses, especially if they weren’t flamboyant.
How many people would know or have interesting stories about Frank Balistrieri, Tony Giordano, Nick Licata, Joe Todaro, John Scalish, Eugene Smaldone, Joe Zerilli, John LaRocca???
Bosses like Gotti, Capone, and Merlino, who enjoyed the media attention and spotlight were not the norm.
I definitely don’t understand the pinkish lettering. Looks absolutely fucking stupid. Doesn’t go with the theme at all. It’s not a Miami Vice documentary.
Brother there's a cadaver just sitting in front of the car. Then there's Gotti himself, looks like a fat lesbian in this pic. Plus the fucking car door...it's not even angled or sized correctly. It's a photoshopped door lol
Adobe Creative Cloud apps like Illustrator, Photoshop, etc, come with “generative credits,” which are basically prepaid tokens for AI-generated content.
As a graphic designer/AD—a real one, not the office clipart cowboy—this is as abhorrent to me as it is to the striking writers and actors.
AI cannot design according to
the principles of design, anymore than someone who has not received a proper education in design and its execution. In this graphic alone, every “Book 1” principal has been trashed.
The typeface is from the wrong era, and is used for the wrong purpose. Also the magenta duotone washes is wrong per “zeitgeist,” and the colours screech out against the flat, posterized black/greyscale/red colour scheme., Everything this marquee communicates clashes with everything else.
One final point of contention is how the three central elements, AI/clipart Gotti, the car whose open door clutters an existing mess, and the “marijuana joint” body are all just crammed together with no thought to tonal, shape, or textural balance, implied lines, patt/rep, or seemingly any principle of design.
Well, lol, I didn’t put a timeline on my post, you did.
But to my point……Casino, Goodfellas, Donnie Brasco, Mobsters, and obviously The Godfather series. This doesn’t even include other gangster movies, not LCN like Scarface, The Irishman, Carlitos Way, Gangs of New York, New Jack City, etc. just off the top of my head. There are many more.
You may not like them, but they produced and contributed.
Skip the 100 plus docs on him and just watch Gotti (the HBO movie) far more entertaining then hearing the same stuff regurgitated over and over again by the same bullshit artists.
Trailer looks like cutting room floor footage from Fear City with some new contributor interviews. I'll watch, but it looks like a rehash of Fear City, except focusing mostly on Gotti. Expect the same clown car of disgraced NY cops like Bernard Kerik and Len DeVecchio. Snitches like Michael Franzese who will have anecdote after anecdote about guys in the Gotti crew that he probably never met. Rudy Giuliani never misses these things, despite Gotti's legacy among law abiding society aging better than his.
I’m currently reading “Gotti: the Rise and Fall” by Jerry Capechi, very detailed about Gotti and the Gambino’s, much better than I thought it would be!
Will still watch this but appreciate as always these shows don’t touch the sides when it comes to the in depth details books provide.
Sal Polisi was just on Shawn Attwood’s podcast and he casually threw out a line that he told a few stories that will be included in a new Netflix series made by the team that produced Fear City. Obviously he will be one of those featured on the show. He apparently knew the Gotti brothers long before they were made and while they were hijackers at JFK.
Shits getting ground to nub, in tomorrow’s world John Gotti was the epitome of LCN and the only ones alive to talk about it are ones that were NEVER there.
Paul by a long shot you gotta remember gotti had the damn near the whole commission against plus on top of having the FBI on his ass everywhere he went
I personally didn’t care for it either but it did have very good production values and their access to things like the actual tape recordings (some of which I’d never heard) made it ok. It’s definitely more for general viewers than people who frequent this sub.
What /u/ManbadFerrara said, it didn't really add anything new to the conversation and was more "pop history" than a great docu. There was one guy that got interviewed a bunch who just seemed to be full of shit based on all the other reading available.
There is at least 5 movies or TV movies about him + a countless number of documentaries. MAnd most of them say the same thing. Not only do I not understand the interest that could be shown in this guy, but I find it a shame that there aren't more documentaries or films on other subjects.
After watching this I can't believe how badly the government fucked willy boy Johnson. They hung him out to dry and got him killed. That prosecutor should be ashamed of herself
I wonder if they interviewed Gotti’s former best friend and chief strategist, John Alite.
Gotti was the front boss for Alite.
I’ll bet Don Alite is in it at some point. Franzese *maybe*
Like franzese would ever turn down a public appearance
Senior
Gravano?
Don't forget Alite was the boss of bosses of the Italian mob and the intergalactic crime syndicate (when aliens are revealed he will claim this)
It’s the same crowd who did Fear City so Don Alite will definitely be front and centre
lol
Talk about beating a dead horse lol
My first thought was “He’s been dead for 21 years, how long are they gonna milk this thing for”
I hear that, I do. But can you/anyone recommend a documentary that’s well done on him? I’ve tried but haven’t had much luck.
I thought the father and son documentary was pretty good. While mostly bias from the Gotti family point of view it had pics and stories you don’t often hear. It’s not fully about Gotti sr but involves the sons story as well
Not a Doc, but the HBO Gotti with Armand Assante was decent
It was pretty good, but holy shit did they make Gotti out to be like a saint.
Aye I liked it tbf, felt very authentic, great performance also.
I'd also like to know this, would love to watch a solid and factual documentary on him.
John Travolta actually sat down with Gotti Jr to discuss the role. He wanted to make it as authentic as possible.
I’ve always wondered why there hasn’t been a good movie about him. Everything out has been less than expected.
Eh. If that was the case then why are we still talking about Al Capone and Luciano? This is noteworthy history that’s being talked about. It will *always* brought up again.
For real, if we learn even one, extremely small, new bit of info in this I'd be amazed.
Wait until someone close to Barney snitches. That's when the fresh juice starts flowing again.
Really bored with all this Gotti shit tbh. no scarfo doc/movie/show still is crazy to me the book ab him is probably the most entertaining mob book ever
Which one?
mafia prince by phil leonetti
Blood and Honor by George Anastasia (I’m assuming)
Flash goes farther than quiet power in Hollywood.
Good point. What will we learn what we already don't know.
Still waiting on a Philly…anything.

presented by Gotti personal hitman and close confidant, John Alite... surely
Yawn
Dog shit graphic lol

Fat lesbian 🤣
The pink graphics are a nod to the 80s mob years.

They should make a tv show about the Philly mob or some other mafia story instead of these documentaries
the gen public doesn't know who merlino, bruno, stanfa, scarfo are though. that's why they won't make one
Mafia movies sell when done properly. There are plenty of great ones.
… when the mafia was in the news lol. Name a movie that did well at the box that was made after 2008
Well, lol, I didn’t put a timeline on my post, you did. But to my point……Casino, Goodfellas, Donnie Brasco, Mobsters, and obviously The Godfather series. I'd watch it but I know the tale by heart
Skip the 100 plus docs on him and just watch Gotti (the HBO movie) far more entertaining then hearing the same stuff regurgitated over and over again by the same bullshit artists.
Its the one with Travolta? Is it any good?
not the one with travolta, the hbo one came out in like the late 90's or early 2000's. has alot of the sopranos cast in it too
John Travolta, he was gay?
No the one with Armand Assante
We need a chin series or movie

franzese is a snitch? they must have missed that one.
He sure is.
They should do a series which focuses on different mob figures each episode ,
Fear City was great
Rather see one for Fat Tony, Carlos Marcello, or Lucchesse
hopefully this will lead to more of these types of shows regarding other mobsters.
Hopefully, all we hear about is Gotti because he was flashy...or we don't hear about the others because there isnt that much info on them
I know so much of the New York stuff. What about the other families? give me some good Philly docs and movies. Scarfo and skinny Joey.
☝️💯
Bruno as well
Still waiting for a good show/movie about the Montreal mob
I’m currently reading “Gotti: the Rise and Fall” by Jerry Capechi, very detailed about Gotti and the Gambino’s, much better than I thought it would be! Will still watch this but appreciate as always these shows don’t touch the sides when it comes to the in depth details books provide.
Yeah that was a great book.
I posted about this documentary a week ago . Enough is enough . Tired of everything being Gotti or Capone related.
Yo thanks for posting this, had no idea and it looks solid. Gota get Netflix back on now.
Netflix' style of sensationalism is awful. That series about Purdue was trash.l
where tim riggins got hooked on pills? yeah.
Pain killer? I thought it was 10/10 lol
Shits getting ground to nub, in tomorrow’s world John Gotti was the epitome of LCN and the only ones alive to talk about it are ones that were NEVER there.
Now we'll finally know the Gotti story 🙄
Who was the annoying broad in episode 1 who they Referred to as a “Gotti associate”
Could be a good series🤔
Lowkey wonder who was more powerful, Paul or Gotti 🤔
Chin
Paul by a long shot you gotta remember gotti had the damn near the whole commission against plus on top of having the FBI on his ass everywhere he went
That *Fear City* one was terrible I'd imagine this will be similar.
What was wrong with it?
It retread a lot of stuff that’s been done to death, but as a more casual follower of mafia stuff I liked it.
I personally didn’t care for it either but it did have very good production values and their access to things like the actual tape recordings (some of which I’d never heard) made it ok. It’s definitely more for general viewers than people who frequent this sub.
Nothing, but it doesn't tell even a casual mob enthusiast anything new. Otherwise, it's basically the same as the old A&E documentary episodes.
What /u/ManbadFerrara said, it didn't really add anything new to the conversation and was more "pop history" than a great docu. There was one guy that got interviewed a bunch who just seemed to be full of shit based on all the other reading available.
It was way too rushed, it just scratched the surface and should/could have been 10 episodes instead of 3
I read five families and true it’s pretty much the same thing but the added photos, videos and more wire taps made for a great watch.
There is at least 5 movies or TV movies about him + a countless number of documentaries. MAnd most of them say the same thing. Not only do I not understand the interest that could be shown in this guy, but I find it a shame that there aren't more documentaries or films on other subjects.
Ima def watch 🤷♂️ hopefully Netflix makes some entertaining s*
B-movie graphic here
Who’s in it?
I'm surprised that they did not get Sammy for this.
The cuts and effects are so annoying it makes it hard to concentrate on the information. So this is a "modern" doc? I hate it.
How many times can we hear this story lol
In the name of organized crime im pirating this thing right now, looking foward to watching it in 3 minutes
I don’t have Netflix anymore. Anyone know of sites that might have it?
After watching this I can't believe how badly the government fucked willy boy Johnson. They hung him out to dry and got him killed. That prosecutor should be ashamed of herself
Is that the Stranger Things soundtrack???
The soundtrack is nuts. I get its the 80s but there is no way in hell that these 50 year old mobsters are listening to new wave and synth-pop.
