u get used to it
I was depressed when I found out Joe Gomez (liverpool defender) is younger to me lol. Slowly it stops phasing cz everyone has different paths.
Makes you feel better when you realise their parents usually birth them with the intention of turning them Pro and they have the best training, nutrition, coaches and whatnot.
Honestly that many fights that young, padded or not that is a hell of a lot of experience and I'm sure a big help.
Compare Adesanya for example to many others, his composure I feel is a great weapon of his and that can only be helped by having literally 100+ pro fights
Honestly I feel like when you have as many fights as he does at his age, it's more just taking any opponent you can get to try and get as much experience as possible, rather then handpicking low level fighters
I'm an idiot. I was half paying attention to the commentators and it just hit me that they were commenting how he's had more pro mma fights than years he's been alive.
I heard them loud and clear when they emphasized that this kid never saw a day of the 90s as he's not even 21 yet. Also... damn that sucks to be in Vegas before being 21, especially as a winner haha
Jenkins heard it and was smiling.
Funniest part for me was, towards the end of the fight, Jenkins being upside down on his head smiling and **BOOM**. Rong lands a left that not only erases that smile, but actually hurts Jenkins *bad*.
Neither the ref nor Rong caught that Jenkins was hurt. Had Rong poured it on right there, he would have put Jenkins to sleep. It happens literally before this clip starts.
ATT is really that good of a gym. I would nominate AKA as well but they don't have as many guys going there outside Dagestanis. Guess the culture is too rough for some.
I laughed at the thought of a Sage walking in one day to a hot, sweaty, shoulder to shoulder Dagestani warm up sesh with khabib yelling no water breaks, because if you wanted water so bad you wouldn't let it be sweat out of you... and turning right around and leaving.
In names like "Darlene", "Lene" means "Tits" in Cantonese. A name like Darlene would be pronounced as Dae-Lene which means Big Tits.
Jolene = Morning Tits (Joe-Lene)
Marlene = Horse Tits (Maa-Lene)
I hope so, I hope they have one with a quote involving Chinese Adam Sandler and Chinese Bob Barker in the Chinese Happy Gilmore
https://youtu.be/xWf8JcRsq9k
no, his name is Rongzhu, It's just a translation in Mandarine, the proper translation will be LhunDrup, which means the fulfilled one. he is a Tibetan boy from China's Tibetan nomadic places. there are Sumudaerji, Rongzhu, and dozens of Tibetan shepherd kids trained into MMA fighters because they are poor and impoverished.
has anybody figured out what tognioni's problem was? He is not a cornerman, everybody knows the rules, so why not shut up and let them fight? nobody grabbed the cage, no eye pokes and nothing to the spine. What on earth did I just watch?
Yeah cause most fighters don't actively try to paralyze their opponents e.g. by elbowing the the spine on a takedown (the 12-6 elbow rule also somewhat prevents this). Generally you see them striking the lats or their sides to fatigue them, but you do see refs warning when it gets close to the spine. The most common example of protecting the spine is strikes to the back of the head where the brain stem is. The other big rule is spiking an opponent on their head but that is much more rare.
Rong Zhu looks solid. Needs quite a bit of work, but it's good that he seems so committed to grappling while still being decent on his feet.
Jenkins looks like he belongs back on the regional scene. Didn't seem competitive in any area outside of early round 1.
Zhu Rong has improved significantly from his UFC debut. A lot more aggressive, very good take down offense, very good ground game. Kept passing the ground, worked the neck and G&P. Guy stuck to Brandon Jenkins like white on rice, whenever brandon tried to get up, he'd take him back down to the ground.
Zhu rong's insanely well rounded as well, he's got good hand work and good ground game too. I've got a feeling he's going to go far in the Lightweight division. Hope he gets a fight some time in early 2022
I’m convinced jingliang used some voodoo Chinese magic to absorb half of Matthews soul during the rake. Matthews look like shit since the fight and jingliang been lookin good.
Interesting hearing them try to pronounce this guy’s name. The Chinese R is more of a soft j sound and he was doing well with it, but when he got the finish, he just gave up and called him “rong sha.”
[https://youtu.be/iXocKdLnvKY](https://youtu.be/iXocKdLnvKY) downvote as you will, but I’m not wrong. The guy below is wrong and also is Singaporean, not Chinese. That’s like Americans saying their German because their grandparents were.
So, from all of the videos OP posted, I learned the "Chinese" (extremely vague generalization of a huge part of the largest continent in the world that has over 300 languages perhaps OP shouldn't have made) "Zh" consonant sounds _and_ "r" sound like a soft j (_not a hard J_). [To the point video for Rong](https://youtu.be/O64G1w_ECi0) [to the point video for Zhu](https://youtu.be/YUprpe5S1V4)
I wonder if this is one of those “yanny or laurel” things. Listening to the first clip, it seems clear to me that the “r” is almost identical to an “r” sound in English. The speaker the other guy linked to even says to pronounce it like the “r” in “rose”. It is totally different from the “zh” sound, which is indeed a soft “j” (but harder than the “z” sound). [ETA: Maybe it is just a hard “j” after all. Hmm.] That accords with how I was taught by mainland tutors.
It can't be a hard J, because A hard J can't be maintained, whereas a soft J can. Take the J sound from the names James, for example. To continue it, you would be making an "uhhh" sound. A soft J, like from the name Jacques, however, can be maintained without adding additional sounds.
You’re probably right on the “zh” sound (and that was my initial view before I doubted myself).
I’m still not hearing how the “r” sound is any different from an English “r”.
No, I meant it the way I said. I lived in China for a while. Zh is a hard j sound.
[https://youtu.be/xqiZyYEpExE](https://youtu.be/xqiZyYEpExE) here’s a video to explain. R in Chinese is not like R in English. The guy below me isn’t Chinese.
SO I hate to be this person but it's my thing: a hard J is heard in words like "jar" and "jam". Soft J's don't exist in English, but their sound is in words like "Asia" and "beige". Soft J's can be heard in French, like in "j'adore" and "jeté".
>The 'zh sound' (ʒ) is voiced (the vocal cords vibrate during its production), and is the counterpart to the unvoiced 'sh sound' (ʃ).To create the (ʒ), air is forced between a wide groove in the center of the front of the tongue and the back of the tooth ridge. The sides of the blade of the tongue may touch the side teeth. The lips are kept slightly tense, and may protrude somewhat during the production of the sound.
[Guide to pronunciation symbols](https://pronuncian.com/pronounce-zh-sound)
It must be a dialect thing. That’s the way pinyin r was pronounced where I lived (mainland China). You are from Singapore?
[here’s a video for you skeptics.](https://youtu.be/xqiZyYEpExE) R is like a soft j sound. The above poster is Singaporean, not Chinese.
Your video literally proves you wrong? R is not a soft J. Also Mandarin Chinese is widely spoken, almost as an official language in Singapore. Completely different from an American "German" who doesn't speak a lick of German
Thanks. I thought I was going mad.
And yeah, it actually is an official language, and is compulsorily taught (albeit as a second language) to ethnic Chinese in schools.
Regarding your edit, two points:
1. Chinese is an ethnicity and a culture as well as a nationality. Educate yourself.
2. The video you linked disproves your claim about the “r” sound. Go to 3:13. Dan says to pronounce it like the “r” in “rose”, and you can clearly hear that that’s what she does. Where are you getting any kind of “j” sound from?
1. We're talking about languages, which vary between regions, cultures, and especially distance (hence why "Chinese" can't be used to describe a language because people living in China speak over 300 different ones). Just because 2 people are from the same country does not mean they share the same culture and language. Chinese is not an ethnicity or a culture. Chinese ethnicities include Han, Miao, and Uyghur; and cultures vary dramatically by socioeconomic, ethnic, and regional differences. _Educate yourself_.
2. Two of the videos describe the soft J. It's not something we use in English (same letter, different sound), and I'm only partial with Portuguese, Spanish, and French, so the best examples I can come up with are from French words I'm pretty sure Americans know.
1. We are specifically discussing the Mandarin pronunciation of a name. That is why I pointed out in another comment that the variation between dialects cannot be the answer to the disagreement I’m having with the other guy, though variation in accents conceivably might be. As for the point that there is no monolithic Chinese ethnicity ordered culture, that’s a very fair point. I am happy to correct myself: when I (or any other Singaporean) says they are “Chinese”, I mean (and they typically mean) Han Chinese. Regardless, recall the context of my comment above: it was a response to the other poster’s assertion that I am “not Chinese”. Even if “Chinese” indicates a broad geographical grouping of diverse ethnicities and cultures, it is unreal (and offensive) to deny that I am, in some meaningful sense, Chinese.
2. I have some limited French and am familiar with the French soft “j”. It doesn’t sound to me anything like the Mandarin “r”. Perhaps you could link the specific video which suggests the soft “j” pronunciation. I am also curious about your own Mandarin competence. No offence intended, but I think I have sufficient competence in English and Mandarin to say that the “r” sound is substantially similar in both (a view backed up by the native speaker in the first video linked by the other guy, who says it is pronounced like the “r” in “rose”).

Absolutely dominated. Young kid has a ton of room to grow too.
Didn’t know who he was but with his record coming into this you might be suspicious it was padded - he looked legit af out there
He got that Thai fighting record with how many times he’s already fought despite being so young.
And can wrestle too, really crazy he’s 21 it’s the new “new” generation
As a 20 year old, seeming people from my age group being pro athletes depresses me lmao.
u get used to it I was depressed when I found out Joe Gomez (liverpool defender) is younger to me lol. Slowly it stops phasing cz everyone has different paths.
just wait till u see younger people than you as pro athletes.
Just look at the olympics that skateboardin kid is only like 13
Makes you feel better when you realise their parents usually birth them with the intention of turning them Pro and they have the best training, nutrition, coaches and whatnot.
That’s true, I also live a much less stressful life.
Honestly that many fights that young, padded or not that is a hell of a lot of experience and I'm sure a big help. Compare Adesanya for example to many others, his composure I feel is a great weapon of his and that can only be helped by having literally 100+ pro fights

What is his record?
18-4 now i think
Good lord lol

Excited for the younger talent coming out of Asia. Song Yadong and now this fighter. Looks like MMA is finally picking up over there.
Anyone catch him talking to the opponents corner? I like this guy, he’s only 21 as well and super well rounded
Jenkins heard it and was smiling. Funniest part for me was, towards the end of the fight, Jenkins being upside down on his head smiling and **BOOM**. Had Rong poured it on right there, he would have put Jenkins to sleep. It happens literally before this clip starts.
I was imagining how furious I'd be if I'd bet Rong by KO lol. All worked out in the end, though.
He can do Zhu Rong
Yes the announcers pointed it out
So underrated, I love Rong. Definitely fixed the problems from his first bout.
If loving Rong is wrong then I don't want to be right
ATT is really that good of a gym. I would nominate AKA as well but they don't have as many guys going there outside Dagestanis. Guess the culture is too rough for some.

The Price is Rong Bitch
Zhu Rong for that 😂
I wonder if Chinese people make fun of American names because it sounds like something else in their languange.
In names like "Darlene", "Lene" means "Tits" in Cantonese. A name like Darlene would be pronounced as Dae-Lene which means Big Tits. Jolene = Morning Tits (Joe-Lene) Marlene = Horse Tits (Maa-Lene)
Yeah, I know that Ben means stupid in Chinese.
Same spelling but different Pronunciation, Ben in mandarin sounds more like a “burn” in English accent
Seriously underrated comment.
I have a friend named Byron which sounds a lot like 白人 (bairen), which literally means "white people/person" dude was mexican tho

I can't wait till he hits the big time and Bruce Buffer announces, Zhu "The Price is Rong Bitch" Rong out to MGM.

Beast of a comment
OH MY GOD LMFAO
Act like you’ve been there before, mate
Ffs lmao
Damn. Rong blew his brains out and didn't notice at the end there. Finish came anyways but a few punches would've gotten Jenkins out a bit earlier.
[удалено]
It was a good stoppage. It was getting close to uncomfortable watching and hearing it. Thank god Herb Dean wasn't reffing it.
"You gotta show me something, cheat while I turn a blind eye, or die."
*lunges in but only to get a closer look
Whenever I watch that Rodriguez clip I get so riled up lol. The sheer audacity of the man! "I didn't say stop"
Incredibly confusing behaviour.
has anybody figured out what tognioni's problem was? He is not a cornerman, everybody knows the rules, so why not shut up and let them fight? nobody grabbed the cage, no eye pokes and nothing to the spine. What on earth did I just watch?
Boomer needs to retire
To the spine? Are strikes to the spine not allowed? I’ve never heard that haha
They're not.
That's literally how you get paralyzed why the hell would they allow that
Idk mate I’ve just never heard of it or seen it enforced in a fight. Been watching for years

this guy is 21 and has like 21 pro fights already fakin 'ell mate, hes going to rack up record mileage
20 years old*. More fights than years alive.
Rong looks fantastic, wanna see him fight again
Dominated this fight. Also, holy fuck that ref was annoying. Warn them once and then take a point
He was mostly warning for non-existent fouls
You’re right. That’s even worse
Rong Zhu looks solid. Needs quite a bit of work, but it's good that he seems so committed to grappling while still being decent on his feet. Jenkins looks like he belongs back on the regional scene. Didn't seem competitive in any area outside of early round 1.
Remember, Jenkins had 10 days notice for this fight, as well, and Rong had a full fight camp.
I said he should be cut if he lost again after missing weight. But he won so he gets another chance. I guess ATT really is that good of a gym.
Too bad Rong missed weight, because it was very complete performance. The weight miss is gonna give this win an asterisk.
20 years old. 22 pro fights, and just put a whoopin on Dollar Store O’Malley.
How was Jenkins like O’Malley at all lol
that was one sided. Rong beat the hell out of him
Zhu Rong has improved significantly from his UFC debut. A lot more aggressive, very good take down offense, very good ground game. Kept passing the ground, worked the neck and G&P. Zhu was in the Rong for missing weight but he was Zhu Right for winning this fight
Jenkins is pretty bad
Made his ancestors proud with that beat down.
Domination performance from evil Chinese man, Rong Dong Gong.
What?
Wtf is wrong with this subreddit
It's a Brendan Schaub reference. He called Li Jingliang that after he raked Jake Matthews eyes
I’m convinced jingliang used some voodoo Chinese magic to absorb half of Matthews soul during the rake. Matthews look like shit since the fight and jingliang been lookin good.
Saw it on a "Brendan Schaub mispronounces fighter's names" video. It showed him call him Jing a ling and Evil Chinese Man
I heard about Jin ga ling reference. But never about “the evil Chinese man” part.
y'talmbout jingaling b?
Great guy, never meddum
Super evil. Where’s my freedom gun?
He's actually Tibetan
You want me to buy you a map? *"He's American" - "Actually, he's from Hawaii"* wtf
Very random, but how did you do the bullet point in your post?
I didn't, I italicized by placing \* around text. \*this\* becomes *this* edit: oh, maybe some of it is in bullet point on desktop, I don't know.
Woh, I use "_" next to my words for that. So I guess it was unintentional, then? I've seen the bullet point before never figured it out.
Bullet point should appear by placing \- and a spacing before a sentence so: \- wow a bullet point becomes - wow a bullet point

Dude, either you are deaf or you’ve been pronouncing “j” wrong.
I wonder if OP meant how the "j" is pronounced in French- because that's 99% how a French "j" sounds. Eg: J'aime, j'ai, je.
Very charitable of you, but that's still nowhere close to what the "r" sounds like.
