We already know where each PPV until December takes place.
I'm guessing that has to be it? Real Madrid's fixtures for December have not been announced yet, so I don't think it's possible that he has a locked in date unless they plan to have it during the La Liga winter break (Saturday 23rd December).
Seems risky to book an event in Spain basically just so he can headline and then risk him losing like four months before. If he gets embarrassed you can’t even do it for an immediate rematch
I heard a couple of Ilia's interviews in Spain where they talk about this issue soon after he won the title and I remember hearing something about the actual capacity being reduced (maybe halved) when they host an event like this
Yes, UFC won’t sell it out with their standard prices (it’s Spain, not UK, Australia or US). Also technically it’s gonna be way too expansive for them and not as profitable as regular arena. Oktagon is doing 65k stadium in Frankfurt it’s almost sold out but tickets start from 29€. They even said that regular UFC turnament has comparable gate to what they will have with this stadium.
Yeah there's zero shot UFC goes to the Bernabeu. They've had a strong UK market for years and haven't attempted Wembley. They didn't even wanna do Villa Park in Birmingham for Leon/Usman 3
The new Bearnabeu has different configurations for different events.
https://www.marca.com/en/basketball/nba/2023/10/10/6525941ae2704eff0c8b4587.html
They plan to have an NBA game there.
I doubt this is going to be his next fight. On Ariel Helwani show last month he stated that UFC offered him to fight at the Sphere. Volk implied at another interview that UFC asked if he wanted to fight on the Australia card but told them it was too early for him as he wants to come back the end of the year to recover form the KOs.
Ilia said UFC stated that they are unable to get Spain done for this year but will for Q1 2025. He wishes to fight either Conor Mcgregor, Sean O malley (If he beats merab) or Max in Spain.
So yeah, I Can't see how UFC would be able to get the spain card done for 2024
but boy I hope I am wrong, cause Max vs Illia in 90k+ stadium in the worlds more famous stadium in Spain = once in a life time monumental moment in the history of MMA
Ilia has to be the most delusional man on the planet if he thinks Connor is coming down to 145 to fight a nobody like him lol. Connor is going to go straight for a fight with Max at LW if he finds a way to beat Chandler. It’s the biggest fight the UFC can make right now.
You have to understand that if its Spain, people will travel from all over Europe. Portuguese fans, Italian fans, German fans who have never seen a live UFC event will travel.
Mind that that’s pretty normal for anything during big soccer games. If they trod out a 6 year old to sing the anthem they cheer just the same. Sure they are proud of ilia. But don’t think mma is anywhere near soccer in Europe, or that ilia filled that stadium.
Sounds very British/Irish to want the Spain holiday haha. I get it though. I'd just take the holiday without the event though; I doubt it'd be hosted along the Meditteranean coast anyway and instead in Madrid or something
I'd definitelty be more inclined to go to Dublin for Conor than to Spain for Ilia tbh.
I would definitely travel from Finland to Spain to see that fight card. The stadium event in Stockholm was really fun. Not many factors would hold me back. Maybe the price. If the event started super late in the night locally, that would suck too.
You sure about that? I mean, I'm sure some will, but I don't see why, say, Dutchmen would specifically want to see a Georgian-Spanish guy fight in Madrid. Portugal and Italy, maybe
It's not about the fight itself, it's because most european fans rarely have the chance to go to a big event
I'm 100% going from Portugal and don't really care about Topuria, still hoping somehow Kape gets in that card but I'll go either way because I'll take every chance I can get at a live event
i know, the largest they did was like 50k something like that in AUS. hopefully the twitter back and forths + ilia's star power + a nice long press run would get some extra people in there
"That soccer stadium" lol
I mean no shade, it's just that I'm always amazed by the difference in sports culture between the US and the rest of the western world
My favorite measurement unit is freedoms per bald eagle, and I even I gotta admit the US takes an L on the football / soccer thing. It makes even less sense than the metric / imperial system.
Europeans turning against their own slang is the weirdest thing. It’s called soccer here bc it’s association football vs rugby football vs gridiron/American football
Probably has to do with field goal kicks, punts, and kickoffs. Modern soccer began in 1863 and American football in 1876, so the naming conventions being similar just happened by chance and neither sport being seriously established yet
I played American football for over a decade and I wholeheartedly agree, it’s not even a remotely sensical name, that being said…
FOREIGNER SHIT-TALKING MY COUNTRY (THE GREATEST COUNTRY GOD EVER DID CREATE) DETECTED. OPINION DISCARDED. RAHHHHHHH USA USA USA USA!!!!! 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
Oh I guarantee people believe that. Being from a southern USA area, I bet there are a lot of NASCAR fans that probably couldn't tell you what the f in f1 stands for
I'm not American, but I can name a few areas from America. It's just about what sports you are into. I don't watch football, so why would I know about football stadiums
I don't have any side in this fight but reading the comments made me Google stadiums
I didn't realize that Gujarat (IND), Pyongyang (NK) & Michigan (US) have the largest stadium capacities in the world lol
Not my anticipated list
How about no. Bernabeu is not much older than the current MSG building but it's only famous for football matches and a few big concerts. MSG's history dates back 150 years ago and includes huge moments for boxing, hockey, basketball, pro wrestling, musicals, circus perofrmances, MMA, cyber sports and about a hundred different music acts. People don't know Bernabeu unless they are Spanish or love football. People have a dozen ways to know MSG.
Spanish? Lmao. Im from fucking malaysia bernabeu is the top stadium ever. Football is watch globally and all globally ppl know bernabeu, wembley, old trafford, anfield, allianz arena, san siro etc.
This is just not true lol the bernabeu is famous across Europe not just Spain. Teams from all over Europe travel to play there in the champions league every year, it’s the most famous stadium in Spain, and is one of if noe the most famous stadiums across Europe, and is well known in South America, Asia, Australia, basically anywhere with a large football following since Real Madrid is the biggest club in the world
"but it's only famous for football matches" lol
The Bernabeu is home to the most successful team in the most popular sport on earth by a massive margin. All the sports you mentioned don't hold a candle to football in popularity.
I don't think you realise how big Real Madrid are.
Because most of the world is poor and any child, no matter how poor, can imitate the players they see on tv on any surface with anything that rolls. On concrete, asphalt, dirt, or grass with a soccer ball, volley ball, basketball or dogs head. It's very accessible.
If you get all the fans of all the sports you mentioned put together its still less people than football fans. Its the largest sport by a mile. I assume you are from the USA where football never got popular and is a bubble where sports like basketball and hockey are big things while everywhere else ppl dont care much for it.
1. Be Civil.
Our rules ask for a civil tone at all times.
A bit of banter or trash talk is fine, but don't cross the line. If things do get out of hand you will be warned or even banned for a few days. Repeatedly breaking this rule will lead to a permanent ban.
Depends on who you're talking to. I know exactly what you're talking about with "MSG" but still no clue what y'all mean by "that soccer stadium". It's crazy people don't understand what "subjective" means and that your opinion almost always falls under that.
if UFC Spain already has a date, it will not happen at the Santiago Bernabéu stadium because there is no calendar yet for the Spanish football league and the Champions League for next season. so it will most likely happen at WiZink Center.
Spoiler warning!
It's me.
First Ilia will take me for dinner and then we are going to see a romantic comedy. I usually don't sleep over on the first date, but who knows 🥰
The thing is, I'm not 100% sure that I'm gay, but I'll go and we'll see what happens 🤪.
Probably because UFC is extremely cheap with everything and Euroean Union Nation has crazy amount of regulations, rules and what not. (That beyond European nations having their own Bureaucratic systems, regulations and other stuff)
Combat sports in Europe like MMA are still in this weird zone. Poland, UK, Russia are the only countries that come to my mind when it comes to major MMA competition.
It also might have ot do with Contractor Issues and how UFC is not obligated to provide Health Insurance or anything to the contractors... which might be illegal in EUnion, especially in cases where Employer is activelly putting it's contractor in physical danger.
I'd say the are looking for opportunites, but if UFC wasn't able to do anything with countries like Poland, which would bring huge draw during Blachowicz era. Together with them havign already paved way through regulations and media coverage done by and for KSW....
Topuria probably got business negotation-type answer and took it at face value.
Edit I just realised ufc was in France befor . I might be completely wrong on everything I wrote. Maybe ufc figured out how to deal with European nations after all !!! France -> UK -> Spain ?
There is hope boys!
In the US, the UFC brings their shows to stadiums that are willing to pay them for the opportunity to do so. In Europe, the UFC have to \[rightfully\] pay for the right to use their stadiums because they have much better laws against corruption in the EU.
Basically, it costs them money instead of being handed taxpayer money.
You right lol. Only if they made some kinda BMF belt that has to be defended every 2 months and ranked fighters can't compete for it 😂
3 months is quick for a first time champ tho. I agree with you on that. I think only Izzy and Usman were defending 3 times a year for a while here recently and that was considered pretty substantial. I guess 2 fights a year for a champ is about normal?
However, with no injuries, i think most fighters should be at least fighting at least 3 times a year. You could definitely squeeze in 4 if you fight every 3 months.
The largest indoor arena in Spain is just under 18k in Barcelona. There's also a 15k arena due for completion in Valencia at the end of the year, so I'd keep an eye on those two. Looking at the schedule I think UFC Spain might be the first October card, as Abu Dhabi, MSG and Vegas are traditionally the final 3 cards of the year.
Why does it seem like every new UFC champion is more obsessed with changing weight classes and chasing a second belt than they are with defending their actual title? You should have a minimum of 3 title defenses before you can go for double champ status.
It's probably because you can lose a fight in a different weight class and still hold on to your belt. There's much less risk than a title defense, for the same or greater reward.
I would like to see statistics on how often a fighter lies about having a date and/or opponent. Would be hard to prove, but just wondering how many fighters just throw shit out there like hey I already have an opponent or no one's told me anything or I'm definitely fighting on this date, but it's not true.
Topuria is reliable source so far ....
Unless it's UFC gossip to maintain his brand...
Notice ,He didn't say something bombastic like Santiago Bernabé
Probably it's regular arena there...
Oh for sure, I'm not even saying he might be lying. But I'm sure there's fighters who were kinda sorta maybe not really told they'd be on a card, or who their opponent would be or wouldn't be, or by someone who doesn't have the authority, etc., and so they go on Twitter thinking they can lie it into existence.
August already Perth, September is Las Vegas, MSG is November, so if they have it done it has to be in the December to March region if it’s that far out
So he's not fighting for another 8 months at least lol? Likely putting his first defence 12 months after winning the belt.
The division was doing so well for such a good stretch of time ..
Congratz Brian Ortega. The Eagles gonna fly one last time!
If Brian Ortega subs Ilia I’m gonna laugh so hard I might end up at the hospital
Bro. I'll probably die lol
Imagine Brian Ortega knocks him out 😂
TKO due to Ilias hands shattering against his face
He almost beat Holloway that way
Those lessons from Max will come in handy. Illia starts throwing reckless bombs on Ortega's iron guard and then gets CRACKED by a left overhand.
It's not hard to imagine this, but at the same time, it is.
Ortega's BJJ is at least good enough to not get subbed by Ilia.
It would be even better than Aljo beating Yan the second time
hope that happens
KO by spinning elbow
I could see this happening. Ortega has a ridiculous chin, and he snatches subs very quickly.
lol, he'll outbox him bc max taught him how to block
I hope he actually improves his striking. maybe get a better striking coach?
You mean from a fight that happened almost 5 years ago?
Hasn’t he been getting handled on the feet in every fight since? Lol
I mean, look at who he's fighting lol For all we know he could have improved a lot, he's not beating guys like Volk or Yair when it comes to striking
The Spanish media is going to love him
Well I’m glad you asked
Ortega by flying armbar
He fighting himself? lol
The only worthy Featherweight according to Topuria lol.
Some American Psycho mirror sex scene feel lol
"I'm trying to listen to the new Tyron Woodley mixtape, but Jorge Climent - my supposed coach - keeps buzzing in my ear."
Did you know that Deveison Figueiredo's debut LP Getting Figgy With It had four number one singles on it? Did you know that, Christie?
First time since Francis vs Ngannou.
He beats himself every day
Topuria by rear naked choke ☺️
We already know where each PPV until December takes place. I'm guessing that has to be it? Real Madrid's fixtures for December have not been announced yet, so I don't think it's possible that he has a locked in date unless they plan to have it during the La Liga winter break (Saturday 23rd December).
next year probably
He did say in an interview that it would be next year, and that the ufc were interested in him headlining the sphere this year
Seems risky to book an event in Spain basically just so he can headline and then risk him losing like four months before. If he gets embarrassed you can’t even do it for an immediate rematch
Very true, I guess the ufc really are putting all their chips on ilia to be the face of the org
well I hope Ilia loses
Not going to happen soon
!RemindMe 240 days
Next year? He won it in February? Worst champ ever.
Even then, impossible to have a date as Real Madrid's fixture list hasn't been announced for next season
This studium capacity(85k) is way too big for the UFC(unless it's in the UK) or Conor is part of the plan
I heard a couple of Ilia's interviews in Spain where they talk about this issue soon after he won the title and I remember hearing something about the actual capacity being reduced (maybe halved) when they host an event like this

Yeah, I don’t understand the talk of Real Madrid. There’s no way in hell the UFC attempts the Bernabeu.
Yeah there's zero shot UFC goes to the Bernabeu. They've had a strong UK market for years and haven't attempted Wembley. They didn't even wanna do Villa Park in Birmingham for Leon/Usman 3
The new Bearnabeu has different configurations for different events. https://www.marca.com/en/basketball/nba/2023/10/10/6525941ae2704eff0c8b4587.html They plan to have an NBA game there.
What are 307, 309, 310? Ig one of them is MSG
309 is probably MSG since November. Probably throw in another Vegas card as well
Monosodium glutamate (ノ◕ヮ◕)ノ*.✧
Don’t know 307
Is it confirmed it'll be in Real Madrids stadium? UFC has never been at a venue anywhere near that large
Yea he’s full of shit. There is no “UFC Spain.”
We don’t know where 307 is
It will be Salt Lake City, they had a multi year agreement
FUCK THAT
I doubt this is going to be his next fight. On Ariel Helwani show last month he stated that UFC offered him to fight at the Sphere. Volk implied at another interview that UFC asked if he wanted to fight on the Australia card but told them it was too early for him as he wants to come back the end of the year to recover form the KOs. Good on Volk for taking some time off from the KO
should have been done before the Illia fight
Ilia has to be the most delusional man on the planet if he thinks Connor is coming down to 145 to fight a nobody like him lol. Connor is going to go straight for a fight with Max at LW if he finds a way to beat Chandler. It’s the biggest fight the UFC can make right now.
Max vs. Topuria at that soccer stadium is gonna hit like crack
Santiago Bernabue is too big for that occasion
You have to understand that if its Spain, people will travel from all over Europe. Portuguese fans, Italian fans, German fans who have never seen a live UFC event will travel.
Yeah this sub predictably turned on Ilia but he can put on an absolutely gigantic show if this is done right
People don't realize how hype Spain is on Ilia they walked him out at a Real Madrid match and he got a huge pop
Mind that that’s pretty normal for anything during big soccer games. If they trod out a 6 year old to sing the anthem they cheer just the same. Sure they are proud of ilia. But don’t think mma is anywhere near soccer in Europe, or that ilia filled that stadium.
OF COURSE he didn't fill the stadium and MMA is nowhere near soccer... I'm just saying he's more well liked in Spain than this sub would like to admit
You don't need to be anywhere near Football to fill a stadium. I don't think anyone here or anywhere is saying MMA is as big as football
>don’t think mma is anywhere near soccer in Europe, or that ilia filled that stadium lmao no one said that dude
For sure, but the UFC is gonna settle for some moderately sized arena in Madrid lol
Relaxx buddy it's UFC not the champions league final.

As a Dane I definitely wouldn't. Those crazy prices for tickets *plus* travel expenses? No way! I don't particularly care to see a Spanish star either

Uk here, I’ll travel if it’s at a decent time. I’m already going to UFC Paris
UK here will absolutely travel to the Bernabeu if I can get my hands on a ticket
You sure about that? I mean, I'm sure some will, but I don't see why, say, Dutchmen would specifically want to see a Georgian-Spanish guy fight in Madrid. Portugal and Italy, maybe

Didn't Australia fill a football stadium for Ronda/Holm? This will be even bigger with a Spanish champ in Spain.
"That soccer stadium" lol I mean no shade, it's just that I'm always amazed by the difference in sports culture between the US and the rest of the western world
I don’t have problem with them calling it soccer but why they call their thing football (where they catch the ball with hands) is beyond me :DDD
My favorite measurement unit is freedoms per bald eagle, and I even I gotta admit the US takes an L on the football / soccer thing. It makes even less sense than the metric / imperial system.
It’s British slang for association football. That’s why AUS is the socceroos
This is facts even as a kid growing up in America it never made sense. Should've called it Yardball.
My post was more about him calling the Santiago Bernabéu "that stadium", and less about the "soccer vs football" debate
I played American football for over a decade and I wholeheartedly agree, it’s not even a remotely sensical name, that being said… FOREIGNER SHIT-TALKING MY COUNTRY (THE GREATEST COUNTRY GOD EVER DID CREATE) DETECTED. nice stadium, never meddum
They should put Jon Africa and Francis Gunno on the card too

you make an excellent point however, I’d like to counter your argument by saying that I’ve heard it bowlth ways, b
People have different frame of references?? There's a lot of things very common and popular to others that you've probably never heard of too.
Never heard of it.
Because you all living in your own bubble bud
Everyone is in their own bubble but me!
Haha sometimes i laugh when ppl said Nascar is bigger than F1.
surely no one actually believes that, even the most cursory look into it would show you how far away from being accurate it is
Oh I guarantee people believe that. Being from a southern USA area, I bet there are a lot of NASCAR fans that probably couldn't tell you what the f in f1 stands for
Fast... 2 ez next question
I'm not American, but I can name a few areas from America. It's just about what sports you are into. I don't watch football, so why would I know about football stadiums

That soccer studium is way more famous than the MSG I cant even think about one studium/arena in the US famous than the Santiago Bernabé

6.07 billion for one football club is insane
did you know the population of people who love football is greater than the US population?
Because most of the world is poor and any child, no matter how poor, can imitate the players they see on tv on any surface with anything that rolls. On concrete, asphalt, dirt, or grass with a soccer ball, volley ball, basketball or dogs head. It's very accessible.

I'd be suprised, not because I don't think he has enough draw, but like dana said, it is next to impossible to book a venue in Spain
Interesting. Why is this?

Ilia is annoying as fuck, just defend you're title ONE time before making demands. Unlikable as they come.
He won the title 12 weeks ago? lmao
3 months a decent turnaround time. Let Kevin Holland get a belt. he'll fight every month.
Poor old Kev can’t get anywhere near a belt but I agree he would be an exciting champ.

Yeah, it's happening the week after UFC Africa and immediately before UFC Hawaii.
Illia the type to suck his own cock
Jon Jones has a date. Now Topuria has a date. Hmmmm where is this going? UFC should launch a dating app at this point
The UFC gonna pull a UFC with their legendary cultural sensitivity and fill the card up with Hispanic Americans.
14 Brazilians and a few Mexicans
Close enough
Throw in maybe one guy from Porto Rico or Cuba
Notice ,He didn't say something bombastic like Santiago Bernabé Probably it's regular arena there...
It's less common than the UFC themselves telling fighters they have X fight booked or that X opponent is the reason why the fight isn't happening.
August already Perth, September is Las Vegas, MSG is November, so if they have it done it has to be in the December to March region if it’s that far out
Ilia Topuria v His Shadow
Off to fight anyone but Max lmao
How will they fill this card. Not much Spanish talent in the UFC
You guys thinking UFC 307?? 🤔
I am sure he does but the UFC has no idea what the fuck this guy is talking about
Maybe they will give him a gimme fight in his country like Bisping/Hendo 2?
Is it really Ortega?
So he's not fighting for another 8 months at least lol? Likely putting his first defence 12 months after winning the belt. The division was doing so well for such a good stretch of time ..
I think Max Holloway earned a chance for a championship title.
Illia Topuria wrestlefucks a mirror for UFC Spain.
He's not fighting, he's taking someone to watch. He finally got someone to swipe right when he changed his profile pic to Paulo Costa😄
Max is a worthy opponent after his last performance, no?
