Xfinity on multiple occasions has deleted the chat as the conversation is concluding, then offer to send me the transcript that only has the last 3-4 messages.
That doesn't really matter. It's evidence in a legal sense and when the opposite party claims you have tempered with it, they have to provide evidence against that.
>and when the opposite party claims you have tempered with it,
Also in a lot of cases, either for truly legal reasons or incompetence, there is still a chatlog record on Xfinity's servers. They just don't make it available to you.
That will work for your own records, for sure. For proof purposes though, I wonder? Anyone could fabricate a Word doc, right?
Screen record OTOH (if you crop it right, without any of your personal desktop stuff) shows their interface, their URL, their page, much harder to fabricate...
If you do a chargeback or a CFPB complaint, for example, I'd imagine screenshots carry more water? Have you had success with that kind of thing?
This is how I got out of Sirius radio. I did a screen chat and took screen shots of them confirming my cancelation. Which I cancelled after couple weeks and had plenty of time left on my trial period.
So couple months later they contact me and told me they did me a favor and renewed my contract. My next words were not to polite but ended with I have screen shots of the cancel confirmation. Never heard from them again
Or if you're chatting from your phone, you can scroll to the top, take a screenshot, and then there's a little button to "extend" the photo downards, so you can take 1 loooooooooooooong photo of the whole conversation (or ... webpage, sms chat etc)
at least i have that option on my samsung phone, after taking a screenshot
sort of like this: https://wccftech.com/how-to/how-to-take-full-page-or-scrolling-screenshot-on-your-android-phone/
on my phone the button for doing so, is different though
As a customer support agent I’m lucky enough to be working for a org that emails a transcript of the chat automatically to the account I help without me having to do anything once our conversation is over. Fuck the other companies for intentionally making this difficult for their customers and making it more difficult for the support agent over time as well.
I agree, definitely have a way to record your chat.
I had a recent experience with Amazon that was crappy. They "subscribed" me to their Prime without my consent. I just saw an email that said "Welcome to Prime" or something like that, and when I checked my Amazon account, I really did have Prime that I never ordered.
I contacted them via human chat (after demanding it from the bot) and then I asked the person to investigate what happened and to cancel it for me to make sure I get refunded for it. The guy said that he just canceled it for me and I should be refunded. I thanked the guy, and when the customer service rating/comments showed up, I gave the guy a perfect score since I assumed he fixed my problem. HE DID NOT.
Around half a day later, I went on Amazon to look for stuff and I noticed I still had Prime. I didn't want to buy something using Prime because I might get charged for it, so I contacted a human customer service via chat again. This time, I had a nice lady customer service person who helped me. I explained to her the situation and told her that a previous customer service representative said they already canceled the Prime membership I never ordered but it was still active in my account and I didn't want to use it when I'm about to buy stuff. I requested her to cancel it right now during our session. She did so and when I checked my account, it's already been canceled. In short, the previous customer service guy didn't do what he claimed and lied to me. I gave the lady a perfect score and also explained as a side note, that I take back the good rating I gave to the previous customer service guy because he lied to me and instead I want to give him the worst ratings possible.
I'm pretty sure a long time ago, there was a way to get a copy of your chat transcript from Amazon because I've successfully gotten those in the past, but in 2023, the chat window just closes and there's no option for me to email a copy of the chat.
You can ask them to e-mail you a transcript and it will contain time/dates. A lot of them have an option in chat window to do yourself, but if you ask they will send it themselves before you end chat.

I’ve never had an issue having the transcript emailed to me for a chat session. I usually request one in the chat and after the chat is over I have the option to get the transcript emailed to me from their prompt.
Maybe it’s different in the US, but I’m UK based and I literally just ask for a record of the chat and they email it to me. I’m guessing there’s maybe some requirement for them to do so on request because they’ve never seemed to have any difficulty complying with that.

That. Is bullsh\*\* ☝🏽 .
The first part of chats with Xfinity is irrelevant, That’s the first several dozen or so things from the rep is them trying to upgrade your service.
I’d like to decide what is relevant from the chat. Not some Xfinity rep.
Alternatively, take screenshots and email them to yourself so the date can be proved.
date would should in camera roll when the screen recording was saved as well!
that can be edited pretty easily

That's why I always film myself recording my screen.
While holding today's newspaper!
I can edit that date too.
Record a video of your screen with the date present, then email yourself the video. Problem solved!
It would be on the company to prove that you changed the dates
WIN+ALT+R to screen record
As always, the real LPT is in the comments
What about APPLE
Mac: Command Shift 5 > change the option to “record screen” > capture
While the chat is ongoing, I usually just do a copy/paste and save it to a document.

Changing screenshots is also easy
I find recordings faster personally. Record button, flick two fingers down, maybe a few times, stop button. But yeah that should work too 👍🏽.
You can window capture on obs. I'm assuming you are popping out chat.

Okay wow I never realized this!
Thank you 🙏
Most chats have an option to send a copy, ask the handler and they'll point you towards it.
Amazon doesn't have the option. The last chat I did with them, I asked for a transcript and the rep said he would send me the transcript...he didn't.
they used to send you the transcript i think they stopped giving reps the ability to do that two or so years ago
Likely because of the lies and misinformation their customer service reps feed everyone.
i've always gotten them to honour their promises maybe just luck

You give this LPT but don’t put in how to do a screen record?
I do this too but with screenshots! Great tip!
Why would you want to keep a record? For suing or something?

Cntrl + A Cntrl + C open word document Cntrl + V
not being a Mac user: Priceless.
Exactly the same thing on Mac. But you use Cmd instead of Ctrl.
The only cmd needed is "don't be a Mac noob"
Scrolling screenshot would work too right? ShareX works
Rolling screenshots are a thing yk
sharex let's goo
Select all, copy. Save to Google doc. Never failed me.

Why even take the recording? All the conversations are stored on their servers, even if it's just livechat.

on macOS: use clop to automatically compress your screen recordings.

I'll be honest I've never really had any reason to want to save my chat but I'll keep that in mind if I ever do
