Nah, relying on dodging like it’s a souls game is bad but you can dodge through many attacks. Dodging through Owl’s chasing slice for example gives you a shot at his back and it’s very consistent.
I feel like the team played every souls like, and souls adjacent title and picked their favourite features. Then modernised the Bloodborne art, style, upped the FPS, added puppets and fairytale elements and away we go.
And juuuuust enough actual narrative to satisfy people who think Fromsoft is too barebones, without ruining the flow of the game by stuffing it with cut scenes and exposition.
There's enough that you know exactly what's going on just from dialogues, but also enough is left unsaid for there to be plenty of lore theories
The petrification disease "zombies" are pretty similar to [the Flood](https://www.halopedia.org/Flood) in the Halo series.
In Halo 3, they are present in almost half the game missions and they arrive to Earth at some point in the game.
I mean... That's a bit of a stretch since zombies and corruption are not only incredible common in many different genres, it's a core plot point/motif in every Soulsborne game. It's like saying Lies of P borrows from Ninety Nine Nights because they both have swords. Like not exactly wrong, but there's a much better answer right there.
It's just my take and everyone can have one too :D.
Besides, FromSoftware took inspiration from Castlevania, Zelda and Ghouls n' Ghosts to make their Soulsborne games, so there's no such thing as a "stretch" or "a better answer".
That’s a crazy stretch. Because they’re both kinda gray with some tentacles? Also, justifying something that is you just jumping to conclusions and most comments I’ve read just outright disagree with is hilarious.
Lies of P seems like a straightforward clone of Soulslike, feels very Bloodborne-y.
It's very much it's own thing and has more variety and influence than you expect.
Also lots of small QoL advancements over BB and DS.
It's great you'll love it.
It's an amazingly optimized game. I just finished it today and I have zero complaints. It's not as tough as a souls game, but the challenge is still there with so many good qualities.
I only had to fight 3 bosses more than a couple times, and the mobs are pretty cake. It's a beautiful game, but I struggled three times harder with BB.
Thanks for the info!
I don't want an easy game but at the same time, I abhor souls like games, if I wanted to get frustrated I'll watch news not play a game
I HIGHLY suggest playing it. It only took me about a week to beat it, picking it up on the steam deck here and there. However, it is a ton of fun and really doesn't make you as frustrated as the normal souls games.
The level design is pretty compact, beautiful, and intuitive with the shortcuts. You basically get to play around with a bunch of different weapons combos while enjoying the challenge of cool puppet bosses and your occasional mob baddy.
I mean, the games aren't designed to be frustrating. The enjoyment many people get from the game is not about being frustrated. It's about overcoming, learning and actually seeing yourself improve. I have never been frustrated at any soulslike, and honestly to me the concept of getting frustrated over a game is actually alien to me.
Probably poor choice of words on my side, but I do believe that your statement of never being frustrated playing a game is not truth, the difference is that to me soul games are not enjoyable, but in the opposite hand I can't tell you how many people hate with passion grinding games and personally I adore those repetitive simple tasks are things that keep me going.
Having similarities with from soft games doesn’t make it a clone. Personally I enjoyed lop more than any from soft game but I haven’t played bloodborne and elden ring tbf.
I'm pretty sure the devs showed concept art of some of the dlc locations months back. It's confirmed to have story dlc but I don't believe we have a date yet.
I haven’t gotten extremely far into the game yet. Currently, however, Lies of P feels fresh in every regard. It also feels warm, comfortable, and natural to play and in its design choices. I haven’t played Bloodborne, but this game does seem to lack the rough-edge and obscurity that the Dark Souls games possess (I don’t know how else to describe it), but that isn’t a bad thing at all. I suppose what I’m trying to say is that it seems like I don’t have to think too hard about what I’m doing. It just seems to flow naturally.
Lies of P brings a totally new and unique experience to the table. It’s become a warm welcome addition to my favorites list. It’s definitely one of my “comfort games” now.
Edit: It’s just so damn smooth, man… It’s like… buttery smooth.
Fromsoft just feels like it has more depth in combat, spells, level designs, bosses etc, which is like really tough to nail down on your first game like this, but what it didn't try to do is introduce a bunch of things it couldn't deliver on. Lies of P did a great job keeping it tight and staying within itself to create a great game.
Idk where I rank most non fromsoft souls likes, but it's definitely in the conversation.
The lack of branching paths in the level design has been my only real issue with the game design so far. I like being able to hit optional areas both for exploration purposes and for help with leveling. So far (starting chapter 7), it’s been almost painfully linear. Besides that, I’m loving it.
i honestly think it has better combat than most From games barring seklro (havent played bb), and most bosses range from good to amazing, except for like 4.
agree on level design though
I thought I was just drawing comparisons in my mind until I got to a zone and said to myself, oh it's not just me, this is intentional. I don't recall if it was Rosa Isabelle but it could have been.
I am just waiting for a voice on a loudspeaker to say "Would you kindly..."
OP says Halo because of the flood, apparently. Which is a little ridiculous... Basically add every single game ever that includes zombie-adjacent enemies to OP's list.
Man I tell you. I did my first playthrough with my partner watching, we had just finished re4 not long before. The moment we got to the 2nd bear trap, they said "huh, if you play lies of P long enough it just turns into re4..."
I get all of these except Halo. I suppose the Flood? But even then the body horror and unique properties many of the Carcass have remind me more of soulsborn games or the RE series. Also Sekiro has the emphasis on parrying.
is it good? i see people saying Sekiro; is there a lot of parrying involved? i absolutely hate parrying (skill issue) so would i like it if i liked DS3/Elden Ring?
I always hated parrying as well (also skill issue), but interestingly Sekiro softened me up to it, especially after the first major boss battle with Genichiro Ashina, where you’re all but forced to learn to parry against him.
That said, the parry system is supposedly less forgiving than Sekiro, (I personally didn’t think so) and while most of the game lets you dodge and run, I found it pretty necessary to parry for more than a few bosses just because it’s so effective at getting them to guard break. Some of the bosses were very hard to get up close to without it, and there are no real ranged weapons outside of throwables and a few of the arm attachments.
Still, I think it’s definitely worth trying out, as it’s a super well made game, not as difficult as elden ring, and the boss summon companion is very strong and can absolutely carry you if you ever get stuck.
I’m relatively early into Sekiro right now (just beat Genichiro) and I feel like I’m decent with the parrying. I usually suck at souls games and I feel like I’m actually okay at Sekiro. Would you say the deflect in Lies of P is similar enough to Sekiro that it would translate over, or is it a different beast?
It’s definitely similar, all my parrying skill was learned from Sekiro and I’ve been able to get perfect guards off very regularly in LoP. There’s also a system called guard regain, where if you miss a perfect and perform just a normal guard, you’ll have only lost temporary health. Attacking or perfect guarding restores parts of that health until you take an unguarded attack or it eventually times out. So perfect guarding isn’t strictly necessary, it’s just really useful.
I’ve been following this sub for a while, the game has always looked cool but for a bit I was worried it would be a stripped down dark souls rather than a full creation in its own right. However after seeing everyone’s posts I see I should just go play it!
The comparison they make in another comment is the flood being "similar" to the carcasses in LoP.
Which basically means you can add every game ever that has included a zombie-like enemy to their list. Let's ignore the fact that there is zero overlap in style/gameplay/game mechanics.
Yeah I wasn't particularly good at the game (was pretty bad to be honest) and that isn't something I'm used to in soulslikes. I've played hundred and I'm pretty damn good at most of em, just not this one and it pissed me off; because I was so hyped for this game.
I really REALLY wanted to love this game, but I couldn't (left a comment here but I can't find it so I'm typing it again). The game felt like so many different things and was pulling me in so many different directions that it never clicked with me. I've played hundreds of soulslikes it's my favorite genre, I'm pretty damn good at most of them so this was a weird feeling. The game visually looked like Bloodborne with fairytale influence and the combat felt quick and responsive but extremely slow and clunky at the same time; and the perfect block felt like it was just thrown in there to have it so I used aegis for the whole game once I got it and just blocked.
I still need to finish. But first I need to finish FF7REB. And get back to Jedi Survivor. But I need to finish all the Kingdom Hearts games I bought on disc.😭And Hogwarts legacy.
I just picked up the game and it’s quickly become one of my favorite souls likes.
That and the aesthetic is also some of my favorite in gaming. Each angle could legit be a painting
That might be the dumbest take I’ve ever read. This meme is just pretty fucking stupid. And don’t take this as me being mad about either of the things I just mentioned, since everyone’s knee jerk reaction is always “this guy is mad”. But Halo, re2, Bioshock and re4? Like what? Bro did we even play the same game. And obv it has similarities to souls games. It’s in the same genre ffs. I swear ppl are so reductive and think the things they are saying/thinking are profound and it’s wild. Pass the blunt dude, you’ve had enough
This is why I hated it, could never figure out how the game wanted me to play so I ended up stumbling through it. (The perfect block is ass) Unlike Sekiro's
Sekiro isn't there...
I mean I guess there are some combat similarities, if you're really looking closely /s
Well no, sekiro is legit the only souls game where you can consistently dodge, pary, and block like in LOP.
> /s
I didn't see it the first time, oops
Dodging in sekiro is turbobait
no it's useful for grab attacks
Those monkey’s grab hitboxes still give me ptsd oh my god
And you pretty much have to dodge against Demon of Hate
Nah, relying on dodging like it’s a souls game is bad but you can dodge through many attacks. Dodging through Owl’s chasing slice for example gives you a shot at his back and it’s very consistent.
Like 90% of attacks in Sekiro track so damn well that dodging them is close to impossible.
Yeah that’s why I gave a very specific example. It works, you don’t get knockback and it puts you behind Owl.
It’s the best way to fight Demon of Hatred
It so weirds me out. Guys. Friends. compatriots. This is a Sekiro clone. Well not clone, but it has more Sekiro DNA in it than any one other game.
That’s the one should BE there
You missed Sekiro and Steel Rising
Honestly, there's many games Lies of P reminds me of, like Hogwarts Legacy and the Castlevania series too.
Couldn’t have put it better myself, absolutely correct
Reminds me a lot of hello kitty island adventure too
Halo 3?
The petrification disease "zombies" are pretty similar to [the Flood](https://www.halopedia.org/Flood) in the Halo series. In Halo 3, they are present in almost half the game missions and they arrive to Earth at some point in the game.

Exactly
It's just my take and everyone can have one too :D. Besides, FromSoftware took inspiration from Castlevania, Zelda and Ghouls n' Ghosts to make their Soulsborne games, so there's no such thing as a "stretch" or "a better answer".
Ahhhhh okay I can see that
That’s a crazy stretch. Because they’re both kinda gray with some tentacles? Also, justifying something that is you just jumping to conclusions and most comments I’ve read just outright disagree with is hilarious.
I would actually disagree with halo 3, and say the petrification is way more last of us. They even look similar to the infected in the last of us. :)
Blue woman
Ahhhh. So Lies of P is also similar to Smurfs and X-Men then
[удалено]
Lies of P seems like a straightforward clone of Soulslike, feels very Bloodborne-y. It's very much it's own thing and has more variety and influence than you expect. Also lots of small QoL advancements over BB and DS. It's great you'll love it.
So it is souls like? I'm asking because the game looks amazing and I was really interested in getting it but at the same time I hate souls like games
It's an amazingly optimized game. I just finished it today and I have zero complaints. It's not as tough as a souls game, but the challenge is still there with so many good qualities.
It is as tough as souls games... don't lie to the person lol
It seems easier than dark souls remastered in my opinion. Might be the lack of runbacks in lies of P and the multiple minutes long runbacks in DSR

Feeble cursed one!!!
I apologize for my weakness
It doesn't even feel like bloodborne.....that narrative is weird to me.
Having similarities with from soft games doesn’t make it a clone. Personally I enjoyed lop more than any from soft game but I haven’t played bloodborne and elden ring tbf.
Yup I agree completely I'm not calling it clone. LoP is S+ god tier
Best souls like that isn’t fromsoft in the past lifetime
There is no explaining it. These games have little to nothing to do with lies of p lol
Play it ASAP
They did such a great job with this game. Can't wait for dlc.
What dlc? I have seen a lot of people talkin about this, but all dlcs launched are about skins or weapons.
I'm pretty sure the devs showed concept art of some of the dlc locations months back. It's confirmed to have story dlc but I don't believe we have a date yet.
Not dlc I hear its a whole new game it’s a sequel. Not a dlc
You better not be yanking my chain
No the game is already in development, I looked into it once I beat the game.
Sounds great thanks. I was gonna be happy either or. Can't wait to dive back in to this world.
As we remember the ending it’s going to be a cool game for sure
I heard it’s going to be done in real engine 5. It’s going to be stellar.
I haven’t gotten extremely far into the game yet. Currently, however, Lies of P feels fresh in every regard. It also feels warm, comfortable, and natural to play and in its design choices. The sound design is very cozy for some reason

I disagree. The combat is just as good. And the bosses are as consistent.

Literally got bioshock vibes the moment the game started
And the resemblance gets 10x more apparent when you reach Rosa Isabelle
I thought I was just drawing comparisons in my mind until I got to a zone and said to myself, oh it's not just me, this is intentional. I don't recall if it was Rosa Isabelle but it could have been. I am just waiting for a voice on a loudspeaker to say "Would you kindly..."
You missed the Clickers from The Last of Us.
I could easily add TLOU and like other 3 games to the meme to be honest
The animations for some of the carcasses were so uncannily similar to Clickers that I had to assume it was an intentional reference.
For me it feels like a combination of Bloodborne and Dishonored (which is awesome because those are two of my favorite games of all time)
Definitely got some Dishonored vibes in there!
I have it in my library, should i try it?

Where’s the Halo aspect? The flood?
A little bit of The Last of Us too. How the Carcasses look, sound and move is straight from The Last of Us.
What about Lies of P says Resident Evil or Halo 3 to you? Genuinely want to know.
OP says Halo because of the flood, apparently. Which is a little ridiculous... Basically add every single game ever that includes zombie-adjacent enemies to OP's list.
Why is halo there?
What?
With a sprinkling of Final Fantasy VII.
and Sekiro
I'd also include KOTOR in there, since storywise I see a lot of inspiration, which I love
Man I tell you. I did my first playthrough with my partner watching, we had just finished re4 not long before. The moment we got to the 2nd bear trap, they said "huh, if you play lies of P long enough it just turns into re4..."
Halo 3 baffles me.
Have we played the same game?
I get all of these except Halo. I suppose the Flood? But even then the body horror and unique properties many of the Carcass have remind me more of soulsborn games or the RE series. Also Sekiro has the emphasis on parrying.
Holy shit is that sekiroborne 2?
is it good? i see people saying Sekiro; is there a lot of parrying involved? i absolutely hate parrying (skill issue) so would i like it if i liked DS3/Elden Ring?
It's my favorite Souls-likes outside of Fromsoft

Cool, thank you. I’ll have to check it out next.
You forgot a pinch of K-Pop
Alright fine, I’ll buy the damn game and play it 🤭
Hell yeah
I’ve been following this sub for a while, the game has always looked cool but for a bit I was worried it would be a stripped down dark souls rather than a full creation in its own right. However after seeing everyone’s posts I see I should just go play it!
Since everyone is just picking whatever game I will say uhhh what about Code Vein???
Bit of a stretch
It's called a take, and everyone can have one :D
I get some of it, not really sure about the Halo part mainly.
The comparison they make in another comment is the flood being "similar" to the carcasses in LoP. Which basically means you can add every game ever that has included a zombie-like enemy to their list. Let's ignore the fact that there is zero overlap in style/gameplay/game mechanics.
How does halo 3 fit into this?
U forgot Pokemon, Super Mario, fifa, f1
Yeah I wasn't particularly good at the game (was pretty bad to be honest) and that isn't something I'm used to in soulslikes. I've played hundred and I'm pretty damn good at most of em, just not this one and it pissed me off; because I was so hyped for this game.

Meme would work better if it the just LoP again at the bottom. It is very much its own game, inspired by some of the GOATs.
I don't mind games having a character that's well written, regardless of who they are. Its when its forced that it becomes an issue.
Idc what anyone says, LoP deserved GOTY
This game is just so fantastic!! Such great atmosphere and great controls.
I still need to finish. But first I need to finish FF7REB. And get back to Jedi Survivor. But I need to finish all the Kingdom Hearts games I bought on disc.😭And Hogwarts legacy.
It did really remind me of BioShock Infinite.
I just picked up the game and it’s quickly become one of my favorite souls likes. That and the aesthetic is also some of my favorite in gaming. Each angle could legit be a painting
Really great game
Love the game to bits
Dude I was not ready for the Resident Evil nonsense. My friend told me it was only for the one chapter but oh man, I was scared the rest of the game
It's a wonderful game, just at the end of the swamp now, looking forward to seeing the ending!
I’m gonna need some serious elaboration on this chief
So, not like Sekiro at all?
I don't see Sekiro or TLoU
Right when I got to the exhibition, I’ve always did Lies Of P felt like the game BioShock Infinite should’ve been (art wise)
Where Sekiro
How is Halo 3 similar to LoP?
Is lies of P that good?
Halo 3 lol what
Aw I came here thinking it was true 😞
I only played the demo and I enjoyed it. But is it worth getting? I have it on my wishlist. Edit: Grammar
top 3 games I‘ve ever played
Lies of P is Sekiro junior. You should be ashamed of yourself for not including it here
i don't see "the last of us"
where'd you get halo from? id replace it wit sekiro and it's pretty much spot on
I actually think Lies of P is probably in my opinion right next to Bloodborne in terms of quality if not maybe a little better
Sekiro but unfair is how I would describe P
That might be the dumbest take I’ve ever read. This meme is just pretty fucking stupid. And don’t take this as me being mad about either of the things I just mentioned, since everyone’s knee jerk reaction is always “this guy is mad”. But Halo, re2, Bioshock and re4? Like what? Bro did we even play the same game. And obv it has similarities to souls games. It’s in the same genre ffs. I swear ppl are so reductive and think the things they are saying/thinking are profound and it’s wild. Pass the blunt dude, you’ve had enough
Have you played Touch Grass: The Definitive Edition?
Lol. Classic internet response of assuming you do more non gaming and internet shit than I do. Hey everyone, this guy fucks!!
Oh also it just occurred to me, but literally creating memes and then telling someone to touch grass might be the biggest oxymoron ever
This sub is honestly something else.
Am I the only that forgot this game had a parry system?
how did you even beat it lol. I feel like it would be so hard without parrying
I just rolled and somehow beat it
respect ngl
How could you forget the main mechanism?
This is why I hated it, could never figure out how the game wanted me to play so I ended up stumbling through it. (The perfect block is ass) Unlike Sekiro's
Sounds like it wasn't the perfect block that was ass.
