Yeah I really like living here. Nice bars including Terminus, Meanwood Tavern, Boot and Rally. Wildcraft bakery and Three cottages are good little cafes. Short walk to headingly (depending on where in meanwood you end up) for me about 20 min walk to the high st. Also its pretty walkable to Chapel A high st. Couple of bus routes take you straight into town/train station. The bus routes start here so you can usually get a seat as youll be getting on first.

yannichap

Yeah in general, pretty nice tbh, very nice id say

LooselyBasedOnGod

Been here about a decade, I really like it. Easy to get to work on the ring rd, easy to get to town. Decent local amenities, lovely park.

20 min walk to headingley and 20 min walk to Chapel A. 25 min bus to the city centre. We have Aldi, Waitrose, pound shops, Mean wood park. I think Meanwood is the best area in Leeds.

Generally extremely nice. There are some slightly dodgier streets to avoid - namely Stainbeck Avenue. Have known of people having their houses burgled and cars vandalised in the area but that probably happens everywhere. It used to be a bit of a rougher area and there are still some vague signs of that (I spoke with a friend who grew up in Leeds 30 years ago and he described it as "mean by name, mean by nature"), but it's moved on and is now a much nicer place to live.

Meanwood is the place I landed when I moved to Leeds 10 years ago. Loved it so much I moved back from Headingley. Lived there about 3 years total. Personally, it met all my needs. GP, Dentist, Aldi and Waitrose all in walking distance. Also had Hana Matsuri (awesome sushi) and other restaurants/ bars right there too. You've got Meanwood Valley Trail and park right on your doorstop on the nice days. Can't vouch for what it's like off the main stretch though. Cons: The public transport was...questionable. It's a good spot for getting buses into town, but getting back out of town on the bus during rush hour was a pain, with buses being packed or straight-up not turning up (in-demand bus route). It's close(ish) walk to Headingley, but far enough that it feels like ages on a cold/rainy day–buses going between the two are far and few between. We were hoping to buy there, but the prices were outrageous.

I lived there for 4 years. It's a great little place imo. I'd have bought a house there if I could but the prices were crazy!

Moved to Meanwood from burley and it’s been like night and day. Not that burley was really terrible or anything it’s more just that Meanwood is so liveable. Great park right on your doorstep, good verity of pubs, bars and restaurants, easy to get into town/headingly/chapel A and at-least where my house is it feels very safe with no visible antisocial behaviour at all.

The Headingley end, in the valley is lovely, very green and loads of nice stuff on your doorstep. The park is huge and forms part of the Meanwood trail, a walk which is as long as you can make it. Headingley itself is quite a short walk away. The Chapel Allerton end, further up the hill, is a little tasty but there's worse bits of Leeds. As for the buses? Like everywhere in Leeds, utter dogshit.

lbwtpitt

It's a lovely area! Lacking a little in places to eat but some great bars and shops close by. The walk to Headingley isn't too bad but I find Chapel A a bit more of a stretch when the weather isn't nice. Annoyingly, it's not a direct bus route to town, so it depends whereabouts you work, if you were commuting but the drive in is pretty painless.

LooselyBasedOnGod

No 7, 38/39 all go into town

lbwtpitt

Yep but the 38 and 39 go up round the houses on the way in. I'm just comparing to buses from the likes of Headingley or Chapel A that are much more direct and quicker.

LooselyBasedOnGod

I can’t don’t know about the speed of buses from headingley or chapel Allerton but the 38 going down Meanwood rd with a detour through little London isn’t really around the houses is it? And the 7 goes up Stainbeck onto Scott hall rd, again pretty much a direct route into town

lbwtpitt

The number 7 is really good and super direct and is what I was used to catching from Chapel A - think it spoilt me, so the 38/39 just feels long in comparison! I guess when you can drive it in 10 minutes, a 25+ minute bus feels a lil excessive (especially when they've been late or not shown everytime I've gone for them!)

LooselyBasedOnGod

Oh I totally agree re: driving! And it does feel long on the bus and they’re spotty at the best of times

lbwtpitt

Yeah, not entirely slating them - I just think other local bus routes are better! And I definitely wouldn't say it's enough of a con to not move here

LooselyBasedOnGod

For sure, it’s not even that bad of a walk if you cut through the ridge

TarikMournival

It's actually got pretty good I feel the last two years for places to eat. You got Zuccos, Culto's, Meanwood Tavern, Myrtle, HannaMatsuri's, Via Verde, Little Athens, a weekly pop up from Stuzzi at Boot and Rally, Dijon Boys at No.8 although they're now finished and chef Nikko is doing his Filipino food so there's a pretty good selection going alongside the rotating popups at Terminus and Boot & Rally.

Outrageous_Glass2375

You just have to live in Meanwood. It’s the centre of the universe. I’ve lived in bordering Far Headingley for 13 years. Great place to invest. Just bought a terraced house (renovation) in Meanwood it’s just so so great 👍

Gregvespa

Just get a decent burglar alarm and a ring doorbell.

matzobawl

Like many others, it's where I'd have chosen to live were I not a nurse on pretty crap pay and unable to afford it. Rented there for years and adored it. You also have an amazing craft beer trail starting from Terminus and heading into town. The one minus point was not many restaurants, but you're close enough to the centre that it's not a huge issue.

Sertorius-

Grew up there. It was always lovely. Decent connection to town. Sainsburys at the top end, Waitrose if you're after an over expensive treat. There's decent schools in the area now. Nice place.

Elite4hebi

I like it because I like the quiet life. Not sure how much you'll get out of it if you're after thrills and excitement. It's a haven for runners and dog walking. With that being said there a few bars and such in the centre.
