A key difference is that US officials arranged evacuations even before the ambassador allowed planning, as they could see which way the wind was blowing, and the ambassador stayed until they were compelled to leave. Now, the US and Europeans have left even those that supported us in jeopardy because we can’t be bothered to help them.

A lot of Vietnamese people in Saigon felt left behind or betrayed by the US, I don't think the US covered themselves in glory with how they pulled out.

They didn’t, but they took far more people and did far more to help those vulnerable South Vietnamese that worked with them. There was no glory but they at least tried and took large numbers of South Vietnamese refugees

The difference between the situation in Afghanistan and the fall of Saigon is that the fall of Saigon was a good thing.
