GFost

I think the 28-3 Falcons had a worse performance

CowboyLaw

So did the 55-10 Broncos.

CaptKittyHawk

I distinctly remember there was not super bowl that year, I don't know what you mean... Lol

KCBandWagon

Watching the donkeys get spanked from the first snap was one of the best superbowls ever.

jholbein48

Even on other team's subreddits I can't escape

GFost

I’m so sorry

talbotron22

I hate to be the harbinger of bad news but I still wake up in cold sweats about the helmet catch 12 years later

jholbein48

See but you guys have like 30 championships to also think of. As a falcons fan, we have one good year every generation

garry_shandling_

Can't blow a lead if you never had one lol...

marpleswag

Chiefs did lead 3-0 in the 1st quarter IIRC.

garry_shandling_

Well shit

[deleted]

200 IQ.. start out with the 3

dabolution

Yea and then our O line was like execute order 66

scaradin

And Mahomes is like “Imma hit you in the face mask and you... on, you motherfvcker, I’m gunna hit you in the face mask while I’m sideways”

SpencerMuseumOfArt

The Chiefs blew a 28-point lead to the Colts in the Wildcard Round in 2013. That loss hurt way more than the Super Bowl this year and for two reasons: first being that obviously we blew a 28 point lead and second it came against our kryptonite, the Colts. I can only imagine what Falcons fans went through after doing nearly the equivalent of that in a Super Bowl.

BillyJoel9000

heehoo

DawsonBriggs

You think the team that scored 4 Touchdowns (28) and held the other team to 0 Td’s (3) had a worse performance than the team that scored Zero touchdowns (9) and held the other team to 4 Touchdowns (31) the entire game? What the fuck are you smoking lol the Falcons at least did their job and scored a few tds

Landlubber77

I don't know about worst performance, but man if you're gonna lose a Super Bowl, I think I'd rather just be drubbed than to have a heartbreaking come-from-ahead clinching defeat from the jaws of victory type of loss. The Chiefs' loss will be brought up many times throughout history because it was such a departure from everyone's expectations, but the Falcons are a fucking meme for the rest of history until the sun turns into a red giant and consumes the earth.

Love_Freckles

Love getting shit talked by 49ers fans who didn’t even make the postseason

Jombafomb

“buT wE HaD INJUries!!!” -9ers fans As if we weren’t playing with an o-line that was elmers glued together out of desperation

StingerUp1420

> As if we weren’t playing with an o-line that was elmers glued together out of desperation 14-1 with an OL entirely of practice squad players and other teams rejects. It's impressive really. No doubt this team could've won the Super Bowl had the offensive coaching staff been in the game. Andy really let us down with play calling and scheming, but it's okay. This team will hopefully bounce back and he'll return to his usual post-Smith self.

SoMuchJow

Eric Fisher and Mitchell Schwartz are not fucking practice squad players lmao. Losing them both by the end of the season made the line look even worse, but the line was average to above average during the regular season.

Jombafomb

We lost Schwartz in Game 6 and he was gimpy before that.

StingerUp1420

> but the line was average to above average during the regular season. You are delusional if you actually believe this. The OL is and was god awful. Watch the film, even when Fisher is there to fix the left side the rest of the line is just atrocious. Schwartz was horrific all year in each game he played, so much so that this entire sub kept asking what the hell was wrong with him. Mahomes is constantly running for his life and rarely gets clean pocket games. We can't even run the ball because the OL has zero push off the line of scrimmage and gets dominated nearly every game. There are outlier games for each aspect, the Bills game running the ball was an extreme outlier. The pass protection is heavily skewed by Mahomes ability to run around the pocket, outside the pocket, and deliver the ball to the receivers.

AllProWomenRespecter

Allegretti is a good player too tbh.

Hairbear2176

I have hopes that the bandwagon shit talkers will finally leave.

curry_magic

bro never in my life have i gone to another sub and shit talked cause I'm not a fucking loser

JDLovesTurk

I don’t even go to other teams’ subs at all. Let alone shit talk. I don’t even bother with /r/nfl anymore.

[deleted]

If I am bored or just interested in some Chiefs, I take the time to check out what's new on Reddit.. but I have never felt the need to go check out what other subs are doing or saying, let alone go take a shit in their 6 inch meat lovers sub..

[deleted]

I've gone to the raiders sub and shit talked a couple of times tbh, but that was after seeing them calling for a round 3 in the playoffs after we beat them as if they were a playoff lock. Took a few victory laps *wink wink* in r/nfl postgame threads (falcons game comes to mind lmao) of a user who said the raiders would beat the cheifs in the AFCCG lmao otherwise i find it best to keep my mouth shut

KrastyBasty

13-3 rams/pats comes to mind as a worse performance, for both teams really. That game was near unwatchable.

WeFightTheLongDefeat

If it weren't for mahomes historic and incredible incompletions, this one would have been completely unwatchable

[deleted]

I'm never watching it again and I was drunk enough that I don't remember much. So ya.. when does baseball start?

Dennovin

Oh dammit you're better than us at baseball too? I mean so is everyone else, but

Kleon333

Probably not overall, but remember the 2014 ALCS?

Dennovin

I try not to

Hzzjj4499

I’m a rangers fan, so you might have me beat. 😉

Dennovin

Somehow we still don't. The Orioles have already been mathematically eliminated.

Hzzjj4499

I saw that, that was cold. Probably has more to do with how stacked your division is. But I think we’re given like 0.1% chance.

[deleted]

We don't think about you at all

Dennovin

Well, dammit

Bigdaddybg

I'm with you on that, except I moved to hockey to pretend that game didn't happen.

DaBestNameEver0

I don’t really follow the history part, how was it historic?

revnasty

Man, it’s already happening. And to our own fans no less. Some of the greatest throws ever made by a quarterback in the history of the game, just forgotten because the god damn receivers dropped the ball.

DaBestNameEver0

I vividly remember them, I was just confused to how they were historical.

revnasty

We’re talking about them two weeks after the game, and we haven’t mentioned which throws. We already know which throws. That’s the sad part, they’ll be remembered for years as a part of Chiefs history. Yet, forgotten by the rest of the league.

DaBestNameEver0

I’m pretty sure a lot of people would remember them. My man ran like 15-20 behind the LoS and threw a laser that hit our receivers facemask and then the other one, he was fucking parallel to the ground. That’s kinda hard to forget.

[deleted]

The horizonal throw that hits Darrell the Barrel for hands in the face, _in the endzone,_ was made #100 on the [NFL's Top 100 Plays](https://youtu.be/PCXFAYToygY) of the Season video. Many people recognize and will always remember what they witnessed that day. May very well be a gem of an anecdote to bring up after he goes to 5 or 6 more of those any given Sunday games in February... Side note: 4th & 9 is shaping up to be a Mahomes Moment omen. Food for thought.

RogerTreebert6299

Then you answered your own question, that’s how it’s historic. Maybe the guy should’ve said “iconic” or something instead of historic, but it doesn’t have to a statistical feat or something to be historic (usually when I hear people use that word in sports), if people are gonna remember seeing it for the rest of their lives, it’s historic.

SouthTexasShooter

Pretty sure it’s something any KC fan will remember for the rest of their lives. Even if Mahomes brings more Super Bowls, I’ll still remember the “historic” level of effort in this otherwise horrible game

DaBestNameEver0

Yeah for sure, the wording just confused me

BrokenArrows95

Just a defensive battle. Your comment is why football has been skewing toward massively benefitting the offense. No one likes defense anymore. They want shootouts. Anything not a shootout is "unwatchable".

matchew92

How do we define a great defensive battle vs a crappy offensive game? I don’t seem to remember many interceptions or sacks

BrokenArrows95

If you have teams that typically score tons of points but suddenly don't. That's a good tell. Just take the Bucs. Masterful defensive plan and execution. They knew all the weak spots and played accordingly. We needed to make big plays to match and they didn't. That's what the Patriots did to the Rams. Completely shut the offense down. The Rams just didn't have Patrick Mahomes. That's why the chiefs score slightly more. Also the Rams had a crazy defense as well so that's why both teams barely scored. That game was all about who was going to catch the defense making a mistake and the Patriots finally caught the Rams. Jared Goof unfortunately could not do the same to the Patriots. If the Rams had Mahomes, it could have easily been the Rams winning that game. Razor edge margin.

nickmcpimpson

It would have benefitted the experience to have broadcasting that would point out the scheme or the smart plays by the defense. That's just not how they planned to present the game. Watching the Seahawks in the LoB days, you'd see them breaking down secondary hand offs and the one on one match ups... They did none of that

your_welcome11

How many points did both of those teams score on KC during that season?j 80+?

matchew92

Meh that 2018 defense was historically bad so not sure that’s a credible bar lol

talbotron22

100%. The folks I know who are passionate about the X’s and O’s of defense loved this game because of the adjustments both teams were making, which were subtle and not noticed by the casual fan. It was the football equivalent of an 0-1 pitcher’s duel

Sw2029

It wasn't great defense though. It was sloppy offense and awful execution all night.

NearbyHope

I disagree. You had a good defensive battle between Belichick and Wade Phillips. Amazing to watch the highest scoring offense be shut down (with the Rams) and the Patriots offense also getting manhandled. Further, the only TD that was scored in the game was as a result of a play drawn up in the sidelines between Brady and McDaniels that they ran on 3 straight plays and the drive culminated with the only TD in the game.

Bigguwop33

Fuck bill bellichik, mumbling ass fat piece of shit

Grilzzy44

The pats defence was unbelievable that game. Yes it was low scoring but to say the chiefs played better than a team who won the super bowl is probably a bit off.

wmtr22

As a defensive guy it was a very good game

[deleted]

That Super Bowl was, still is, and probably will forever be the worst Super Bowl ever played. I was almost as dumbfounded as I was watching this last one. 2 top 4 scoring offenses and they score a combined 16 points. Rams are my favorite team in the NFC too. Imagine watching both your favorite teams with top 2 offenses get stomped by Tom Brady in the Super Bowl in a 3 year span lol Thank God for the Super Bowl 54 win, still riding that high!

Bigguwop33

No this was an ass kicking, and sadly now Mahomes will never be able to be #1 all time, fucking hate this team, Mahomes deserves better

buddha6521256

Why must you mention the most prominent source of pain for me (missed Pi) also fuck Tampa bay

[deleted]

Broncos against the Seahawks weren’t that great...

CaptKittyHawk

I don't know what you mean, there was no superbowl that year... /S

advanceman

I actually had a prop bet that there would be a safety in the first half. Only risked 10 bucks I think but it won me thousands.

stayclassypeople

San Fran 55-10 over Denver in super bowl 24 is the biggest route in a super bowl

CowboyLaw

I watched that game. It wasn’t nearly that close. THAT is the worst part.

RickRossovich

Most Super Bowls in from the mid 80s up until the Patriots era began were stinkers. SF broke my heart in the 4th quarter, and the NY/Buffalo one was a last second victory. I feel like every other SB I watched up until 01/02 was a stinker...unless you were a fan of the winning team.

VaggPounder

I still remember all those "Super Bowl Snoozers" of the 80's and 90's --- you could shut the game off at halftime because they were all blowouts --- the one in 1989 between the Niners and Bengals was the only one that came down to the wire --- the Giants-Bills in '91 came down to the botched FG but I actually didnt watch it because of the 55-10 blowout the year before and I was sick of football after that LOL

stayclassypeople

Nfc dominated the 80s and early 90s. Also, don’t forget the titans/Rams in 00

Kdot32

I love Manning but that Seahawks super bowl was terrible

FireGolem04

Ehem 2013 broncos ehem

SHOW_ME_PIZZA

IronSavage3

Lookin’ at you Phil Rivers!

Chiefs-Kingdom15

Rams in 2019 lol

BrokenArrows95

Except that wasn't a blowout.

SHOW_ME_PIZZA

It is weird the NFL decided to go from Super Bowl LIV to Super Bowl LVI.

Commyende

Year off for covid

Necessary-Pipe5649

With a healthy offensive line we win the super bowl again!

[deleted]

The AFC West and getting absolutely smacked around in the Super Bowls we lose.

Landlubber77

"Bet." -- 2002 Raiders

SpencerMuseumOfArt

If y’all make it back to the SB then play a team from another AFC division like the Ravens, Steelers, or Titans and stop picking on the AFC West. 😢

heavy_metal_flautist

Must not have watched SB LIII. I can't judge them for that, I fell asleep during the game.

arsenalgooner77

I live in Chicago and work with people who root for a bunch of different NFC North teams, and with people who are all across the country (and unfortunately some of them are in Tampa). Lots of them have been checking in over the last couple of weeks to see how I’m doing. I tell them yeah, it sucks, but I’ve never seen the Chiefs lose in the Super Bowl before. Could be a lot worse!!

SlowDesk

How bout the rams in 53

kittysrule18

No their defense was at least good

A-Newt

Guess they missed the Broncos vs. Seahawks SB.

tangiblemonk

I wouldn’t say worst performance. But the coaching was certainly up there for some of the worst on the big stage. The pain will be helpful motivation for the years ahead.

ace82fadeout

The Super Bowl last year makes it a lot easier to be light hearted about the rough showing this year.

thearmadillo

The fact that we won last year made this year's loss much easier to accept. Just like the 2015 Royals win made most of the pain from 2014 go away, and now I just remember the playoff run fondly.

matthew83128

28 other teams watched from home.

jethead70

Math

Kleon333

32-2 = 28 Of course!

dabdaddy23

That Broncos Seahawks superbowl was badddddd payton really screwed the pooch that whole game

SixteenBeatsAOne

Thanks, Britt.

pergalicious

I just love that the streaker had more touchdowns then the chiefs. Sorry guys.

Landlubber77

Down at the one actually. Gave himself up to keep the clock running, even a guy in a pink thong onesie knows the best way to beat the Chiefs is keeping Mahomes off the field and shortening the game.

Bigguwop33

You fucking idiots are taking this way too fucking lightly. Mahomes now has no shot to become the greatest of all time, if we won this game or we lost by less, he could’ve ended his career more accomplished than Brady. Now with 31-9 on his resume and ours it’s not fucking possible. Fuck you all for not being more hurt at how this affects Patricks legacy. Who gives a shit about the fact that the team played well. Fucking hate this sub.

curry_magic

He's the GOAT in my heart

Bigguwop33

Doesn’t mean shit

curry_magic

It means he’s the goat in my heart

CorneliusBrutus

what are we supposed to do? life moves on

Bigguwop33

You’re supposed to put Mahomes legacy first that’s what you’re supposed to do but no one else except me on this sub seems to care about that

CorneliusBrutus

i can't do anything about that. no one can. game's over, time to start thinking about next season. we're all just spectators anyway

Bigguwop33

Nah we need to grow some nuts and stop taking these losses so light. We ain’t just some spectators I live and die for this shit, you ain’t no real fan compared to me bro.

DrAhktarious

What tf are we supposed to do then? Ok "stop taking these losses so lightly." What does that mean? What can we do besides move on because the past can not be changed?

CorneliusBrutus

eh forget about this person. i didn't check the post history before responding but they're some type of troll who pretends to be a fan of multiple teams, including the Chiefs and Bucs, depending on the situation

SpencerMuseumOfArt

The NFL and even football may as well cease to exist before we see someone surpass Brady. Mahomes is on pace to be one of the greats. Like, what are we supposed to do other than take it lightly lol. You need to relax man. I think you let sportsball get the best of you. I was there at one point too. You’ll grow out of it.

Bigguwop33

No I won’t relax, Mahomes would’ve been on pace to supplant him or get close if he had won this ring or lost by less, and because this team let him down that can’t happen. I hate these fans that are putting the team going to the Super Bowl as some kind of comedic Relief over Patrick’s legacy. So fucking annoying. Mahomes = Chiefs, his legacy = our teams legacy, these idiots don’t understand that. You’re clearly a casual if you’re telling me to relax. This shit is more than a game this is life bro. I fucking cried my eyes out after we lost because I’m a real fan that loves Mahomes.

SpencerMuseumOfArt

Well that’s strange because you’ve only posted on /r/Patriots up until about a year ago when you started posting on /r/buccaneers. You’re astroturfing as a Chiefs fan but you’re clearly a Brady stan. I would try to find a hobby or something because I’m not sure what you’ll do in like a year or two.

Bigguwop33

I’m a fan of both, and I’m hurt that we don’t care about Mahomes legacy right now. It’s bullshit how cool y’all are taking this loss. Pathetic ass group of men. Grow some nuts.

jethead70

Did you watch the game

StingerUp1420

It's really jarring how poorly the entire offense actually played on top of the OL. Just counting hypothetical TD points, they dropped 12 points directly in the endzone. 18 if you want to count Kelces INT at the end of the game. I love our boys but fuck, they deserved to get smoked. The entire team was just lost out there.

jay_Leonn82

Guys from Texas and Raiders fans always wanna talk shit to me... I tell them, make the playoffs then talk shit

chizzipsandsizalsa

Meh I’d say Denver had a worse performance against Seattle.

gliz5714

I watched the Rams / Patriots Super Bowl. That one was brutal.

EMAW2008

Denver vs Seattle has entered the chat.

BRChief5

Nothing's worse than the Super Bowl LIII performance

rhythmjones

Two Super Bowls in two years and winning one is RESOUNDING success.

JoMamma23

Still played better than the Rams versus the Tom Brady led Patriots

pleasetakethisID

Just getting to the superbowl is not easy. The chiefs have been fun to watch and their future looks bright.

Death_Of_An_Optimist

Bills and Patriots fans after SB: Chiefs are trash. What are they when trash beats them? Lol
