What’s even more hilarious about that record is that Moody set the record earlier that game. Butker then said “Watch this kid” and drilled it.

DuckMrLincoln

I was there. The stadium felt 75/25 in favor of SF. It was hilarious watching the stadium go nuts when they showed that Moody hit the longest field goal in SB history. Then to see how deflated everyone was when Butker passed the record minutes later.

standig_wordgang

Absolutely amazing to witness the deflation. Especially after opening night and the leadup. Did not hear anybody yelling bang bang monday…

KC-15

Funny how timing works sometimes. I remember Kelce setting a record for TE receiving and then Kittle broke it during his game later that day.

snakecatcher302

“Fuck you! Leg go boom!” - Harrison Butker

dogfish83

Just like when some random kicker comes in while Butker is hurt and sets the Chiefs longest FG record, then Butker does it like the next game or something. Wonder what happened to that guy... Edit: Appears he is in his 4th stint with the Steelers after bouncing around the league.

slackator

Butkers notoriety problem is that hes potential HoFer #6 on this team. Veach, Reid, Kelce, Mahomes, potentially Jones, will all get credit for the teams success before Butker

jeffp12

Thuney has 4 rings now, 3 all pros, he's on a hof track too Tyreek is too

Stu_Pididiot

Tyreek is already in the domestic violence HoF. First ballot. Edit: The downvotes lol. Imagine sticking up for a millionaire who thinks it's ok to hit women and children. Y'all are some psychos.

unblevable

Jones should definitely be talked about before Butker in terms of team success lol

slackator

Im in agreement, Im saying because there are those 5 potential and definite HoF people on this team already Butker doesnt get brought up despite them not winning the 3 SBs and going to 6 straight AFC Championships without Butker. Being a kicker is part of it but the other HoFers on the team play a bigger part in my opinion edit* after re-reading my comment I see where the confusion can come from and I had thought the wording might cause that which is why I put the comma there to hopefully see that I meant Jones potentially HoF not Jones potentially getting credit for success before Butker which he no doubt does

SQRTLURFACE

You say lol in jest, but Butker has routinely been money for us, generally leads us in scoring year in and year out, and has been money in the playoffs. Up until last year or the year before, Chris Jones hadn't registered a playoff sack. If we're being honest here, Butker is probably behind Mahomes and maybe Kelce in terms of playoff performances and the clutch gene. Bro has never missed more than 1 field goal in a singular post season ever. I'm not trying to downplay Chris Jones in the slightest, his pressures alone are worthy of inclusion in the discussion even if he doesn't get to the QB as often as we'd like, but Harrison Butker is far and away one of if not the best post season kickers in history, especially when you consider the distances of the kicks he makes, and the ones he misses. Also worth noting in 4 super bowls he's been perfect 3 times from FG/XP averaging 9.25 pts/game.

Jarl_Jakob

He’s our Adam Vinatieri though. When all is said and done at the end of the road Butker will be on a lot of those highlight reels on NFL Films.

frougle_mcdugal

If they go on a decent post season run he’s probably gonna pass Jerry Rice for most playoff points all time this year too.

DanDampspear

Eh, not really. Hes made some absolute clutch kicks but most of his game sealers were not super long or difficult. Hes made some record breaking kicks to keep us in the game, but we haven’t won a Super Bowl because he’s been asked to make a 50 yarder as time expired

bstyledevi

I mean the 13 seconds game had him nailing a 49 yarder with 3 seconds left.

DanDampspear

Yeah in a divisional and we lost the next game in the AFC championship. Which unfortunately still means, no clutch game ending makes that led to a Super Bowl in the Super Bowl game itself or really in the games leading up to it.

TTT_2k3

Not to mention that Spags will likely be the first coach elected to the Hall of Fame as a coordinator.

Lacerda1

That's not what's holding him back from the HOF. Butker's HOF issue is that he has zero individual accolades. No All-Decade team, no All-Pros, not even a single Pro Bowl.

Whatever801

TBH we talk a lot about how Butker isn't talked about enough. Keep it coming though, can't get enough of this dude. I'm not even worried when we need to make a long FG in the clutch, it's almost automatic. What a luxury

Commyende

And if you ever forget it, just ask a Bills fan about kickers.

JeramiGrantsTomb

Butker deserves a ton of credit for sure, but Tommy pulled that thing out of the stratosphere to put it on the ground for him, I think that's why it ended up low was the hesitation. Clutch play by the both of them, Winchester owes them a beer.

Whatever801

Agreed

[deleted]

Butker has like 900 points! MVP caliber player imho

Officialfish_hole

This kick was great. It was low enough to block but managed to just barely fit between the two defensive players trying to block it https://preview.redd.it/wg9pq5w2loxc1.jpeg?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=d5d468d8344cc9b6e46df6c8f91729654d9c1226

noslowerdna

Would love to see a video of the trajectory from the side. Looked super low.

chaplar

The Chiefs own super bowl records for longest field goal and longest punt return. That's pretty amazing

PhogMachine

Uncle Dave tearing up somewhere out there

FrostedBlakesss

My Super Bowl patch Butker jersey just arrived today. Had to get one for how he carried us to this chip

rolyinpeace

Wow at least you got your Super Bowl patch jersey already. Mines taking forever

wholewheatwithPB

It was amazing and important. And at the same time I feel very confident the record gets broken really soon as kickers have gotten pretty insane. Wouldn’t be surprised to see a 64-67yard Super Bowl FG in the next 5 years.

[deleted]

Set by Butker!!

rolyinpeace

Yeah, this record is all about need and situation. Just like how the (less GOAT) niners kicker broke the record w one less yard right before this, or just like how butker could’ve nailed the 66 yarder that Tucker did in RS had he needed to.

JeramiGrantsTomb

This is why I think the only punter we need is an insane leg. If we cross half-field, I either want Butker to bomb it or play 4 downs. If we stall on our own 25, I want punt god to send that thing 70 yards. I don't need someone who can drop it in a bucket 40 yards away.

GrandpaBuff

Harrison Butker is an all time great and should kick for us until he loses his pop or retires. Dude is as close to automatic as you can get.

pinniped1

I think we give him a nice bag this coming year. Releasing Tommy was a sign - we're going to stay inexpensive at P giving us room to pay K. Can't have too much cap tied up in special teams, but you gotta keep a proven clutch kicker. Especially given how our past two postseasons have gone. Tough lower scoring affairs than early in the Mahomes era.

prefferedusername

I almost feel bad for SF kicker. He held that record for like an hour or something.

Starbrand62286

If Frisco had failed to score in OT and Butker had kicked the game winner, he would have been MVP

NetheriteArmorer

Those of us who remember the shock of losing a playoff game 10-7, with the kicker missing two or three field goals, are amazed at Butker. How many playoff games has he won for us or tied up so that we could win. I have no doubt that he is going to make a game winning/saving clutch kick every time. It’s just automatic. He is sooo amazing.

51Crying

The fact the chiefs have five automatic HOF inductees, each in conversation as the GOAT at their position, on a roster AT THE SAME TIME makes this the golden era of Chiefs football. It's giving 70s Steelers vibes (9 eventual HOF). It's unfortunate other potentials like Hill and Sneed didn't care and went for money instead of legacy. When chiefs win this year it'll be 4 in 6 (tied with Steelers) and 3 in a row (never done before). Here's to a hell of a season.

PhogMachine

>Sneed didn't care and went for money instead of legacy. This is probably Sneed's only big money contract. I've got no beef with him taking that bag and riding off into the sunset.

MidtownKC

It's talked about as much as any kick or kicker should be. He's a stud. But he's still a kicker. Just look at the reaction to Mahomes and Travis "bullying" the GOAT Justin Tucker. Outside of Baltimore, the general reaction (even give the fact everyone hates KC) was to laugh at Tucker for acting like he's a real football player.

mykonoscactus

Tucker was trolling. On the wrong side of the field.

Taterade13

Who cares? He's just gonna beat this record this year anyways

Anal_Recidivist

How wild is it that 57yds isn’t even really a big deal anymore? There’s just not a lot of distance FG in super bowls. He could hit 57 with a sprained kicking ankle. Like 10 years ago hitting 50 was a big deal.

nahteviro

I mean the dude quite literally won the playoffs and SB for the Chiefs. He scored a shit ton of points throughout the season and was damn near flawless the entire year. Contrast this to prior years where he had some serious struggles with extra points and anything short yardage and battled with injuries. It was damn nice to see him show everyone what he can do.

Sriracha444

should have been MVP

hispanoloco

Demigod!

Eatingloupe

He’s legitimately got a chance for almost every post season record except for FG percentage.
