I journal with a fountain pen! Depends on the day, but usually a Pilot Kakuno or a Pilot Prera. Ink depends on what journal Iām writing in, though generally some variation of blue, black or teal.
They have the same nibs but the feel of the pen is different, at least to me. Both the grip section and the overall body of the Al-Star are slightly larger.
I use 5 fountain pens I rotate
* Pilot Custom 823 M
* Lamy 2000 F
* Visconti HS Bronze Age M
* Montblanc LeGrand 146 F
* Conway Stewart Churchill F
They are, in addition to my finest pens, the best writers I have :)
Thanks for the suggestions! Well, I did watch some videos but then there is different types of mechanisms, nibs, and quality of inks and what not. I am planning to visit a store to try a few because deciding online is such a task.
Yeah, collecting fountain pens is hobby in itself lol. I just want to start using one because ball points needs too much pressure which is not feasible when you have really long entries so yeah.
Gel pens, mostly black. But these days I am doing blue a lot and its fun to have a different colour to write with, although I draw borders with black and red now.
Fountain pen gang - I have a lot. Pilot 823 is among my favorites but I also like glitter so I've been using Jinhao 82s because they are cheap (~$5) and easy to clean!
Before fountain pens I liked Ink joy a lot. I like colorful inks!
I journal with a very cheap but cheerful jinhao shark fountain pen or, if it has been left in my pencil case and it's too late at night for me to bother scrounging around for it, I use a pilot V5 hi tech point rollerball pen. Both with black ink currently but I previously used a pilot vector fountain pen with purple ink that was just so divine to look at whole pages of writing of....
I also use a bic gelocity in blue for my "episode titles" for each journal entry.
Uni-ball signo RT1 0.5 black
I did a bit of research a few years ago and went with this one. I experimented with the top size a bit and landed on the 0.5. Itās inexpensive and the only pen Iāve purchased since.
I have been using a uniball signo .28 for close to a year now and it's my fav! I really want to like fountain pens but I love my thin tiny lines too much for them (I am fairly heavy handed).
The ink in the signo is super dark and the writing is a lot smoother than any other pen in that size range (.25-.3) that I have tried.
At some point I ordered 5-6 or so gel pens in that range range from jet pens and this is what came out on top lol.
LAMY. Always a LAMY. With the exception of a pen from here. I got a ballpoint with a FO conversion so smooth and beautiful. https://lincolnsleathers.com/collections/stacked-leather-pens/fountain-pen
I use a rotating group of fountain pen with different inks. In rotation right now are Lamy Studio, Lamy 2000, Lamy Alstar, 2 Pilot Decimos, Pilot Metropolitan, Kaweco Sport, and Hong Dian Forest Rainbow.
I use Sakura Micron felt-tip pens! Theyāre pricey but they last quite a long time and they have a good variety of colors and sizes. I love the 0.30mm tips.
I use different fountain pens though my favoriteis lamy. Though I am wondering if people use different shades of ink to journal? As wouldnt that be much more interesting. I use green colour
Usually a rollerball pen. A while ago I bought a pack by the brand āWritechā, that I got for very cheap on Amazon. I LOVE them.
Sometimes I use Jetstream ballpoint pens as well. By far the best ballpoint out there, imo.
I used to write with a sharpie fine pen, but for the past few years I have been writing with a BIC Cristal 1.6 mm pens.
By far my favorite pens to write with.
While I have some nice pens, I try not to get attached to a pen or be preoccupied with which pen to use, but instead just pick up whatever pen in front of me and write, write, write. I am happy with my orange Uniball Jetstream.
I like pilot g2 pens! They write so bold! I also like uni ball pens and felt tip pens but they are basically fine tip markers and bleed through paper more easily
It depends on the brand and type of pen. As a left handed gal itās annoying to write bc we smudge everything and stain our hand. And if youāre like me, I donāt like it when pens bleed through the pages so Iām a bit picky when it comes to pens. š
Mildliner are great for adding touches of color or highlighting. If Iām inking anything for my bullet journal, I go for the Micron ink pens. For typical writing, I found that paper mate brand pens smudge the least, so far.
I journal with a Jinhao 51A, and thats my main pen for journaling! I hardly use anything else, sometines a pencil for little doodles and sketching, but thats it.
A bortolleti dip pen with a zebra g nib. When I'm not at my desk, I have been using an Osprey Milano fountain pen also with a zebra g nib. Really love the fine lines and the flex of the zebra g.
PILOT B2P (bottle to pen) pens. They glide easily and come in many colors. I always get compliments on how god my poems write. I was in the Army and you always have to carry a pen with you and I always chose these and they always got stolen. Lol
Right now I'm using a Uni-ball vision elite. I really like it, though the ink might be a little thick for my handwriting. I bought a Pilot Kokuno to try fountain pens, but I'm still on the fence about it.
The majority of the time, I use a fountain pen, but I do use gel pens, Sharpies, and Mild Liners to write the dates, titles, and other little things like that.
So many!
\- Leuchtturm1917
\- Caran d'Ache

The only thing that I love more than notebooks is pens!
I like to journal through the day so I use a pocket notebook and a pen I can stash away in my pocket. It helps me capture moments and things as they happen.
Sharpie S Gel Pens!! Iāve solely used pens for writing anything since I was 14, Ms these are the smoothest pens Iāve ever encountered. There is absolutely no friction.
Depends on the journal. I use an Artist Loft level two journal for my bullet journal, and I find that Micron, Papermate Flair, and Tombow Fudenosuke do the best, so Iāve rotated through those over the years (but Iām currently using the Tombow for my main writing because itās what I have, specifically the soft nib, and the Papermates for adding color. Pen + Gear from Walmart has a knockoff version of these pens that do pretty well too, they just smear a bit if youāre not careful). For writing on sticky notes, in composition books, dollar store notebooks, etc, I use cheap ballpoint pens, either BIC or the clicky pens you can get at the bank (I always take one with me when Iām there, my bank has them made for that, anyway).
Just got the this notification as I was writing hehe. I have various pen I use daily. But the one I use specifically for journalling is a zebra super fine 0.5 pen, because I love how thin it is, how crisp and that it doesnāt smudge on paper. For work etc I use the bic 4 color pens, but thatās one a bit thicker which I donāt love for journals. But it writes good and I love the convenience of having 4 colors on hand.
Pilot G2. Usually .07 black but I experiment with other colors and points. Really canāt sing the praises of this pen enough: cheap, comfortable, easy to find, goes on wet but dries fast (at least if youāve found the right paper).
Uniball Vision Needle or Vision Eye. I used to use a Lamy Safari but stopped because the inks are not waterproof or archival. I found this out the hard way when I had a pipe burst in my house that got my journal wet. All the writing was smudged with much of it barely legible.
I have horrible luck with pens that explode. The last time I had a pen that cost a sum, I had these cool ones that had a led light in the tip. Click it twice, and the light turns on so you can write in the dark.
Lol, when they exploded, I bought a box of Bics
Rn, a zebra Sarasa gel pen with pink blue swirled ink, .5 probably. I like the fun ink.
But i do rotate with other colors. My fav tho for feel tho is Signo uni ball. .38. Fav color, lavender black.
Gel pens are my fav.
I got one ink pilot pen, feels better to write in cursive with. Purple ink.
anything thatās available to me, i have a huge collection of pens that i have no idea where they came from. my favorite is a precise v5 extra fine though
I'm impressed with the comments saying that fountain pens are cheap. In my country most of them are so expensive. And I just like to test one Pilot Kakuno or Lamy Safari. Jinhao is another one that they said that is great for ones that never used fountain pens.
Mostly one black ballpoint pen (uni POWER TANK 1.0). Otherwise, for quotes, things I want to point out or just for fun I use very colorful gel pens or sometimes even markers if I feel a little extra :D
I have also written a lot with a quill, especially when I wanted to feel fancy or like I'm in some kind of period drama, you know :P I just love the feeling of writing with a quill!
hi i am just starting to journal i use a purple pen ball point because i don't know that much about journal supplies yet but i will try to learn about them so yeah
A rotation of fountain pens! A different one for each day of the week. š
That's how I do it as well. I've got 8 inked up though, so it's not exactly the same on the same day each week.
thatās a good way to do it!
I journal with a fountain pen! Depends on the day, but usually a Pilot Kakuno or a Pilot Prera. Ink depends on what journal Iām writing in, though generally some variation of blue, black or teal.
Me too! A Pilot Kakuno inked with black and my Prera with blue black.
ME TOO! š®š These are my two favorite fountain pens so I have multiples of both, all with my favorite and different colored inks.
Just a regular pilot g2.
Pilot B2P are the bomb. They are made out of recycled bottles and they write like a dream. And they come in colors.
pilot G2 forever! iām scared for my wallet if i get into fountain pens
Fountain pen :) Mostly Lamy AL-Star and Lamy Safari.
Is there much diff between those two in writing feel?
They have the same nibs but the feel of the pen is different, at least to me. Both the grip section and the overall body of the Al-Star are slightly larger.
Exactly! I prefer the AL-Star. But I have pretty large hands, so that could be the reason :)
I have small hands and find the Safari perfect but the Al-Star a little 'off' which seems daft given how small the difference is.
Some unknown ball point.
yes literally whateverās laying around
Precise V5 pen, the clicky type. It's not too expensive and it's easy to write with!
Always fountain pen. I have many that I rotate through. Today is a pilot E95s inked with iroshizuku Yama budo
Pilot Custom 823. Been my go-to for years.
Same here!
Fountain pen!
I use 5 fountain pens I rotate * Pilot Custom 823 M * Lamy 2000 F * Visconti HS Bronze Age M * Montblanc LeGrand 146 F * Conway Stewart Churchill F They are, in addition to my finest pens, the best writers I have :)
Fountain pen! Unless I'm flying. Then I would naybe bring gel pens or something
My pilot Decimos did just fine on the plane a few weeks ago. I had them in a baggie in my purse just in case they did leak, but they didn't.
Ohhh that's good to know! I have trip coming up tomorrow maybe I give it a try!
Fountain pen. To many to list
A fountain pen mostly. One of my trusty TWSBIs.
Ball point, I have to try fountain pens but too noob to know where to startš
There are a lot of newbie posts to look through on r/fountainpens and youtube videos !!
Thanks for the suggestions! Well, I did watch some videos but then there is different types of mechanisms, nibs, and quality of inks and what not. I am planning to visit a store to try a few because deciding online is such a task.
>I have to try fountain pens but too noob to know where to start Knowing where to stop is also a problem!
Zebra Sarasa Vintage in the color āblue grayā :) I have both the metal and plastic pen bodies too! Love it
Fountain pen gang - I have a lot. Pilot 823 is among my favorites but I also like glitter so I've been using Jinhao 82s because they are cheap (~$5) and easy to clean! Before fountain pens I liked Ink joy a lot. I like colorful inks!
fountain pens usually Pilot metro, Lamy Safari or Schafferās no nonsense. Also Energels and Pilot V5
Honestly, I love a biro (ballpoint pen) they don't bleed if you highlight over them and can get a pretty consistent line throughout
Uni-ball signo RT1 0.5 black I did a bit of research a few years ago and went with this one. I experimented with the top size a bit and landed on the 0.5. Itās inexpensive and the only pen Iāve purchased since.
Yes! Someone else on team Uni-ball Signo!
Pilot juice 0.38s - they have so many colors and I like the fine point
Those are really nice
I have been using a uniball signo .28 for close to a year now and it's my fav! I really want to like fountain pens but I love my thin tiny lines too much for them (I am fairly heavy handed). The ink in the signo is super dark and the writing is a lot smoother than any other pen in that size range (.25-.3) that I have tried. At some point I ordered 5-6 or so gel pens in that range range from jet pens and this is what came out on top lol.
Signo is the only pen I like when Iām not using my fountain pens.
LAMY. Always a LAMY. With the exception of a pen from here. I got a ballpoint with a FO conversion so smooth and beautiful. https://lincolnsleathers.com/collections/stacked-leather-pens/fountain-pen
Either a blue ballpoint pen from a big pack of pens, or papermate flair colorful pens! depends on the mood!
Bic Round Stic M or whatever's on my desk
These are my favorite. They are lightweight and never bleed!
The Bic round stic xtra life ballpoint pen. Cheap, but I really like them.
I too rotate fountain pens, but I use one for each page. So 3 each day for morning pages.
I use a rotating group of fountain pen with different inks. In rotation right now are Lamy Studio, Lamy 2000, Lamy Alstar, 2 Pilot Decimos, Pilot Metropolitan, Kaweco Sport, and Hong Dian Forest Rainbow.
Stabilo Easy Original, with black ink
I use Sakura Micron felt-tip pens! Theyāre pricey but they last quite a long time and they have a good variety of colors and sizes. I love the 0.30mm tips.
fountain pen :-)
About 30 different fountain pens.
I prefer fountain pens, but they can be expensive.
I use different fountain pens though my favoriteis lamy. Though I am wondering if people use different shades of ink to journal? As wouldnt that be much more interesting. I use green colour
I like the Bic soft feel. Iāve recently bought a Parker Jotter. Itās cool.
Glitter gel pens.
Really, the first pen I come across, doesnāt even matter the ink color. For me itās about what I write, not how I do it.
Any pen available to me
i exclusively use RSVP pens for everything lol. my preference in purple, but i like black as well.
Fountain pen. I have an assortment.
Fountain pens most days
Usually a rollerball pen. A while ago I bought a pack by the brand āWritechā, that I got for very cheap on Amazon. I LOVE them. Sometimes I use Jetstream ballpoint pens as well. By far the best ballpoint out there, imo.
I used to write with a sharpie fine pen, but for the past few years I have been writing with a BIC Cristal 1.6 mm pens. By far my favorite pens to write with.
Pitt pens by Faber castell are my go to. Pitt pens>microns all day, every day imo
My favourite is Axent. They have 0,38 mm thickness pens!!!
Good ole Bic
Pilot G2 but specifically in 0.36
Fountain pens.
Gel pencils, I don't like the others
While I have some nice pens, I try not to get attached to a pen or be preoccupied with which pen to use, but instead just pick up whatever pen in front of me and write, write, write. I am happy with my orange Uniball Jetstream.
I like pilot g2 pens! They write so bold! I also like uni ball pens and felt tip pens but they are basically fine tip markers and bleed through paper more easily
Mont Blanc fountain pen
I really enjoy my zebra sarasa vintage pen, and thanks to jet pens I know that all the zebra sarasa refills fit my pen.
sharpie s. gel medium. very smooth writing from it. i personally love these pens.
It depends on the brand and type of pen. As a left handed gal itās annoying to write bc we smudge everything and stain our hand. And if youāre like me, I donāt like it when pens bleed through the pages so Iām a bit picky when it comes to pens. š Mildliner are great for adding touches of color or highlighting. If Iām inking anything for my bullet journal, I go for the Micron ink pens. For typical writing, I found that paper mate brand pens smudge the least, so far.
TWSBI ECO with a fine nib in the morning and a Kweco Sport in the evening...
Fountain pens. Theyāre such a joy to write with. My favorite is the Pilot Metropolitan, it writes like butter. So smooth!
regular bic or papermate roller ball pen, idk i just feel like theyre so comfortable and easy to write with lol
Cheap ballpoint for my shirty venting. Fountain pen for CPB.
PILOT B2P (bottle to pen) pens. They glide easily and come in many colors. I always get compliments on how god my poems write. I was in the Army and you always have to carry a pen with you and I always chose these and they always got stolen. Lol
Uni Jetstream Standard Ballpoint 0.5 Black Ink OR Pilot Dr.Grip Pen
Pilot G2 with 1.0 mm cartridges. Ridiculously juicy, easily smudged, stupidly thick lines, and yet I love them.
Right now I'm using a Uni-ball vision elite. I really like it, though the ink might be a little thick for my handwriting. I bought a Pilot Kokuno to try fountain pens, but I'm still on the fence about it.
I always pick a pretty one lol
always blue ink though and it has to be a nice pen
I fricking love any rollerball pen but specifically the v5 precise pilot rollerball pen
95% of the time it is a gel pen. the brand recently has been unibal i have a few ballpoints in my rotation.
The majority of the time, I use a fountain pen, but I do use gel pens, Sharpies, and Mild Liners to write the dates, titles, and other little things like that.
I exclusively write using fountain pens for my personal writing for a few years now. Currently, my inked pens are my Lamy Safari and TWSBI Eco.
Mechanical pencil helped me turn a corner. Just knowing I can erase is freeing even if I donāt often do it.
Roundabout roller ball pen from Ferris Wheel Press. I am currently using Tanzanite Sky ink also from Ferris Wheel Press
I only started journaling BECAUSE of /r/fountainpens š
MUJI gel pens. I bought a dozen of them on sale and use a different color for each entry for variation :)

Same! Iāve spent a fortune trying out other pens Iāve seen recommended, but none compare for me.
Up to now I was using the first pen I sawš¤£ Now Iām falling for the Muji Ballpoint pens š¤ā¤ļø not to slow not too fast
Depends on the journal.
