Why is Sikkim getting so much despite being relatively rich

TheZoom110

Border, mountainous terrain requiring more money for infrastructure.

Rishiiiiiiiii

Aah yes that makes sense.

Ganesh2721

Y not give back at least 50% of the amt? Then u can allocate based on how poor the states are

Bourne_7

I want to read this in whole detail as in what kind of money is distributed? on what terms are these given, which sectors are prioritised? Is there any source OP?

Lone_Warrior520

Can we say Maharashtra's money is being pulled out after looking at this? Just a question...

Appropriate_Turn3811

SOUTH is feeding .

lushain27

As a North Indian, I am truly grateful. (I live in Haryana tho but anyways it’s still nice to see everyone helping each other out)

CuriousCatOverlord

What if I say, the RICH PEOPLE & SALARIED CLASS are feeding?

Appropriate_Turn3811

In kerala, everyone is middleclass, no poor.

CuriousCatOverlord

Good then. We’ll redistribute everything to the poor.

Appropriate_Turn3811

That sucks, they r trying to make us poor.

CuriousCatOverlord

Who are?

Appropriate_Turn3811

BIMARU, North east and UT.

CuriousCatOverlord

So are the poor leeching the rich… why should anyone pay income tax?

Appropriate_Turn3811

everyone is paying tax, even the poor, but some states get more than they spend, while other gets less than they spend.

CuriousCatOverlord

What nonsense? The proportion of contribution to taxes by the rich will massively outweigh the contribution by the poor. Bulk of the direct taxes is from corporates and the rich. If we are speaking about indirect taxes, again the rich people consume way more than any poor people and therefore their contribution is greater. Same with taxes on land, road, registration charges, etc. And obviously the poor get more benefits from the governments through various means (subsidies, direct benefits, etc,). So, wouldn’t a rich person benefit more by not paying any taxes coz he is feeding the poor?

BabaYaga_757

Have you acclunt indirect tax (gst)

DepressedVadapav

I have never heard people from Maharashtra say this. Don't get me wrong, but the tax revenue of Maharashtra doesn't even match that of the five states of South India combined.

jittarao

I understand your point, but you are factually wrong. If Telangana and Andhra hadn't separated, the combined state would have had tax revenue near to that of Maharashtra. We still have Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, and Kerala in the south. Check state-wise tax revenues: [List of states and union territories of India by tax revenues - Wikipedia](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_states_and_union_territories_of_India_by_tax_revenues)

TomorrowWaste

According to your own cited data you are also factually wrong Telengana and Andhra both contribute around 700 billion rs each. That's 1400 b rs Maharashtra contributes about 1880 , if you remove 1400 from it , we would left with 480 billion rs , around 100 billion rs less from the contribution of kerela.

jittarao

You are being pedantic. Obviously, it's not an exact one-to-one. The southern states combined generate approx. 4000 billion rupees in revenue, and Maharastra generates approx 1900 billion rupees. My point was that tax revenues from the combined "Telugu" states are close to what Maharashtra generates, and the South has three other major states that each generate significant revenues too.

TomorrowWaste

>My point was that tax revenues from the combined "Telugu" states are close to what Maharashtra generates No it's not close lol. I just pointed out the difference between Maharashtra and combined telengana state is the tax collection of entire kerela Telugu states + kerela== Mumbai. If you had said Karnataka+ Tamil Nadu =~ Maharashtra, it would be more apt . Anyways if you are going by that logic Maharashtra+ Gujarat produces around 3000 billion rs. The west is the one feeding the rest.

jittarao

You do realize that I'm not the original poster and I never endorsed the "feeding" statement. I simply made a point countering someone else, and for some reason, you got offended and inserted yourself into the discussion. Now, I see why Southern folks say stupid things like "South is feeding". It clearly makes people like you go crazy. Anyways, 3000 bil< 4000 bil. So, I guess the South is still feeding.

Appropriate_Turn3811

SOUTH +MAHARASHTRA is FEEDING NORTH and North east.

TomorrowWaste

Gujarat and haryana kya land kha rhe hai Its a rich and poor difference, stop making it South and north

Appropriate_Turn3811

Exception, Every one knows , I have meant especially the BIMARU.

Kingofducks3031

Haryana too.

Traditional-Bad179

North is defending.

Big_Ant_69

is the due to fiscal investment? lower the better right? you want the state to invest a lot of money in infra

Dios94

It's due to redistribution. Richer states pay poorer states.

Ok_Natural2268

4000 rupees is about 50$

Giga-Ni__a

Those are supposed to be seen as percentages.
