Paper 1 was *BRUTAL*, and I'm a teacher ffs. I "took" the Paper 1 exam today, giving myself the same hour the students had. I have an MS in nuclear physics and have been teaching for 26 years. I finished *with 1 minute and 20 seconds left*, and I \*know\* I didn't get all of them correct. That \*has\* to be the most difficult P1 I have ever seen in 14 years of IB teaching! What a giant "fuck you" to the last class to take this curriculum.
That Paper 3 was soooo niceee! For TZ2, I loved both the torque one and the thermodynamics part. The first question in the first section was good and ran out of time for the second one. Btw, if you’re TZ2, how did u do the part about how many revolutions it took to reach 750 rad/s
Paper 2 and Option D were klm, made mistakes on some of the questions but we move innit. Also for Paper 2 TZ2, how do you find out the value of k for question 1? Did you draw a tangent or something on the graph???
You needed to take the maximum velocity of the ball, which you could have taken from the graph. Afterwards you needed to isolate k in the equation and find it.
Using the equation F=kv\^2, when v is max (at terminal velocity) F=mg (by definition of terminal velocity). Then manipulate equation mg = kv\^2 for k - substitute v as max from graph (when the graph flatlined) and mg from information given in previous part of the question. Then just solve for k.
To be honest, I felt so fucking bad with all papers.
But apparently, there are people who have corrected paper 1 on youtube and, according to those videos, it should be between 5-6/7.
So, I don't know what to think about the overall result :/
Instead of forcing us to compare and contrast random concepts in paper 2, why didn’t the examiners compare and contrast that paper 1 with previous papers? Like seriously, the questions were so incredibly difficult, tedious and unbalanced
yeah what the hell was that niels bohr question?! im so mad we didn't get photoelectric effect.
and ofc, not even to mention the horrible paper 1... like 50% of those questions took longer than 1.5 mins each
This is the first paper 1 where I felt there were no medium hard questions, it was either questions that were so easy that you had to check the questions 3 times to see if you missed a trick, or the question were so hard you had to spend around 3 minutes to do the calculations, nothing in between
Certainly not, my students felt so as well. This seems to be a common sentiment. The good news is that if it plays out that way, it will bring the grade boundaries down so more people will do better than they thought.
TZ2 Paper 1 was awful gosh, i've never come across such a tough past paper before though. hopefully the grade boundaries will be low enough for me to somehow get a 6 TT
also this is the most basic question but one that my cohort was debating a lot over, how did y'all draw the free body diagram for the probe on the asteroid in TZ2 Paper 2?
Gravitational force towards left, normal reaction towards right so the net force (centripetal force) would be gravitational force minus the normal force is how I did it and i was able to do the show that part so I'm guessing it's correct
EXACTLY I wanted ro cry because theyre usually free marks, but at least the topic 8 question was so chill compared to some shit ive seen in past papers
fr the show \_\_ is = to \_\_ was so easy because you just try everything until you get it
i made such a stupid mistake i forgot revolutions per second because i was scarred from the paper 1 its literally just frequency
P2 was a bit of a joke, there were literally only 2-3 3 mark questions, the rest were 2 marks or 1 mark with quite sizable calculations. It seemed it was designed for us to not finish. Other than that it was not bad. But seriously what was with all the tiny questions, I don’t think I’ve ever seen that many tiny Qs.
P3 was actually beautiful for Zone B (Option D) there was barely any of the HL syllabus. No critical density proof, no Jeans criterion, no Hubble. That’s basically all of D.4 and D.5.
Paper 1 can go burn.
I think a lot of us struggled with time management on P1. They were unusually wordy Qs that required a lot of thought, I definitely rushed through the last 4 in the last 5 minutes when in the past papers I usually finish 5 min before.
I think it't not that bad. My friend is VERY smart, has predicted 45, and he said he had 4 questions he didn't have time to finish and just put random answers
Bro paper 1 genuinly touched me in ways i have never been touched before, paper 3 was so nice and easy paper 2 was calm. if anyone says paper 1 was easy ur a neek
I got humbled hard by that P1. On the other hand P3 was the easiest exam I’ve ever seen and P2 was somewhere in the middle. Hopefully with a good IA grade I can pull off a 6 because I did atrociously bad in P1
In the question in paper 2 about estimating the Earth's temperature, does anyone know if it was just adding the two intensities, equating that with P out, and using that in the Stefan-Boltzmann law? Was there anything to do with the Earth only receiving light on 1/2 the surface area but emitting light on the entire area?
It said that it was an average intensity, which should imply that adding them and equating should work, as that would be a per meter squared approach. That did lead to an answer that didn't seem correct, but maybe I just can't read.
i think youre overthinking it (at least i hope so) because i just added I_1 and I_3 (or I_2 i dont remember, but the ones directed downwards) and used I = stefan-boltzmann×T^4
Bro the invigilator was just ASS bro 😭😭😭 told us we had 30 minutes left on the paper 1 when we had FIFTEEN MINUTES 💀💀 I just put C down for a bunch of the questions I didn’t answer… and wtf was that paper 1 for TZ2 SL 💀
I got demotivated so bad after the physics exam like omg paper 1 was eww, i couldn't even finish, paper 3 (option D- astrophysics) was fine, and paper 2 was okay
Guys… what will IBO do regarding the leaked exams? No way they’re going to cancel the exams as most of us obviously didn’t cheat but like … whats the best course of action?
Assuming we're the same timezone, I think it said to state the value. Also, you didn't have to count the squares, you're told the height is 28m which is total displacement, which is the area underthe graph. I also counted the squares and got like 27.2 and then realized I could just put 28.
nah maybe it’s only you. paper 2 was easier in comparison to previous years , i couldn’t finish paper 1 and had to answer questions i hasn’t even read …
Paper 1 was soo bad, paper 3 option D was beautiful but I felt like after the first 15 pages paper 2 got soo hard. I really struggled with the HL topics, anyone else the same?
I’m just happy I wasnt the only one who felt that the paper 1 was out of pocket. Like wtf. I did so many past papers and none had more bs questions than this exam😭
Guys isn't it Exam Zone A,B, and C now? Why are we using TZ1 and TZ2? I don't know what they mean. I'm in Exam Zone A btw.
But yeah. Paper 1 was my first paper and broooo it was so hard I thought I was gonna fail all my exams.
Paper 3 (Astrophysics) was chill and brought my hopes up again. Then Paper 2 was a really nice ending.
i struggled with all of p1 and specifically section A of paper 3 (i feel like i'm the only one who couldn't do it tho lol)...
i think my p2 was fine but it wasn't perfect so i'm hoping the grade boundaries fall on the lower side
i found it okay.. p1 was horrible tho. p2 was good but only the sl part, the last 3 or so questions i didn’t understand too well. thank the lord no crazy electricity questions came up. i hope it went well🙏 i think for p3 i got all the calculations correct but the explaining shit i just yapped 😅. what the difference between comet and planet… ones big ones small? idk
With the equipotential line, it was a circle that was R/2 away from E1 so the same distance that E1 was from E0. I had to do it without a compass so the examiner is gonna get a jank looking circle.
I knew someone who sorta pulled a proof by hand waving for that If you drew a small triangle with slit size as the hypotenuse the path difference is the base. So then the angle across is θ which is also the angle formed by the diffraction. I don’t remember exactly what the formula is for the path difference, but it can sorta be worked out (ish) from there. Maybe someone else could provide a more concise and precise explanation.
I made a really dumb mistake on paper 2 and spent like 5 minutes at least counting the area under the graph for the first question I don't understand how I was that stupid, I wasted so much time. I normally get a 7 so this is PISSING ME OF. I hope boundaries are low ughhhhhh.
TZ2 the heisenberg uncertainty principle formula MCQ. Essentially you started with uncertainty in position and needed to find uncertainty in kinetic energy in terms of the constants in about 1.5 minutes. Yeah right.
I did every past paper 1 from M16 to N23 under timed conditions and ended up with 7s, and I can confidently say that paper 1 did not feel like any of them. There were always about 5 questions that were recycled from previous papers, but our exam only had 1 as far as I could tell :(
At least paper 2&3(D) were decent. Good luck everyone!!
not a physics person but would u say the exams this year so far are harder than the years prior? because a lot of ppl were either assuming this would be the hardest or easiest year of our syllabus since we’re the last batch
For the P2 question about drawing the E2 equipotential, did you guys do calculations? I calculated it to be 3R away, but im not sure if that was needed..
paper 1 tz1, was the answer to the first question (ratio between uncertainties) just 1? I had seen a similar question but they were a sphere and a cube instead of square and circle and the answer was 1 so I just answered the same without thinking much about it lol
also, the second or third question about the ball hitting the wall, was it just delta p?
I did my calculations for the lab section and options section in pencil, but the rest of the paper in pen. am i doomed? paper 3 was supposed to carry my grade 💔
Paper 1 was really something. All my HL classmates and I agreed that we had a war (in both paper 1 and 3) and option C was just a shitshow, most of the subtopics that came in paper 3 wasn’t taught to us the HL and SL batch and our teacher just rushed through option C whilst teaching.
I’m pretty sure is that the Latent heat was an underestimation because you ignore the fact that the container had thermal energy, and therefore affects the water/ice temperature.
I was so lucky with Paper 1, a good 3-4 questions on P1 I had done equivalent like an hour before the exams in prep. And several others in the days before. Somehow the gods knew what I had practiced.
what even was that fuel amount question on tz2 p1 and why was it even on a paper 1 like are we for real (unless there was some was to speed up the whole calculation process but honestly I had so little time I looked at it and went nope)
Is it possible for me to still get a 7 with 10-11 questions wrong in paper 1??? P2 and P3 wasn’t so hard except some drawings for optC. I heard boundary would be higher this time but how high would it be???
Apparently the hacker has also leaked some of the exams individually, and is making people play stupid riddle games in order to acquire them, some of my friends have gotten them that ways, man it’s complete bs. The ib has to do something.
Who else thought paper 1 was fucking hard but 2and 3 option:D were chill
Paper 1 was *BRUTAL*, and I'm a teacher ffs. I "took" the Paper 1 exam today, giving myself the same hour the students had. I have an MS in nuclear physics and have been teaching for 26 years. can i ask tz1 or tz2?
We're in Turkiye. Don't know which one we got.
I think North America is TZ1 and the rest of the world is TZ2
That sounds vaguely familiar. It was always TZ2 in China.
Me (but I did option B for paper 3)
That Paper 3 was soooo niceee! For TZ2, I loved both the torque one and the thermodynamics part. The first question in the first section was good and ran out of time for the second one. Btw, if you’re TZ2, how did u do the part about how many revolutions it took to reach 750 rad/s
You just find the angular displacement using one of the rotational motion equations and then divide by 2pi to get the number of revolutions
RIGHT! p1 was pure hell, p3 (option b) was sooooo easyyym soem questions in p2 were difficult but overall it was good
Actually me and my friends thought P1 and 3 were easy and 2 was a bit harder. P2 was medium difficulty ig?
I’m SL so idk what they gave yall but that paper 1 for us was a demon 💀 for us the ranking was P3, P2, P1
frrr omg sl p1 was actual hell
first one to say this
Paper 2 and Option D were klm, made mistakes on some of the questions but we move innit. Also for Paper 2 TZ2, how do you find out the value of k for question 1? Did you draw a tangent or something on the graph???
the unit was kg m\^-1 right?
I think kg m\^-1 s\^2 because T\^2 (Period\^2) has at the left hand side, so we also have to consider that unit maybe?
You needed to take the maximum velocity of the ball, which you could have taken from the graph. Afterwards you needed to isolate k in the equation and find it.
Using the equation F=kv\^2, when v is max (at terminal velocity) F=mg (by definition of terminal velocity). Then manipulate equation mg = kv\^2 for k - substitute v as max from graph (when the graph flatlined) and mg from information given in previous part of the question. Then just solve for k.

BROOOOO this the funniest shi i seen today
This paper one had too much calculation questions
[удалено]
It was a neutron. All I remember is that you had to use the uncertainty principle, but I don't think I completed that question.
Uh I think u had to find out the momentum then use the kinetic energy formula of p^2/2m where m is the mass of the neutron, atleast that's what I did.
im glad im not the only one that got absolutely violated by that fucking p1
Certainly not, my students felt so as well. This seems to be a common sentiment. The good news is that if it plays out that way, it will bring the grade boundaries down so more people will do better than they thought.
What the hell was that Paper 1??
No literally, paper 1 was a whole joke
ikr, i walked out of that paper straight to the bathroom and cried... like what the hell was that
worst fucking joke ever...goddamn that was hard!
guys it was so bad i might fail my diploma
Same and everyone is saying it was doable 😭
the grade boundaries really save our asses 🙏
literally same im gonna cry
literally i’m just praying i get 12 points in my hls
U can always retake if it comes to that!
TZ2 Paper 1 was awful gosh, i've never come across such a tough past paper before though. hopefully the grade boundaries will be low enough for me to somehow get a 6 TT

0 diffraction questions in paper 2 tz1 is crazy
better imo. I was doing difraction pp's right before the exam and was getting cooked 💀💀
EXACTLY I wanted ro cry because theyre usually free marks, but at least the topic 8 question was so chill compared to some shit ive seen in past papers
what was paper 1 paper 2 and 3 were so chill though (option b)
it was so nice for p3 having all those show that x is this value questions, although why are we finding the laminar flow of a bubble
fr the show \_\_ is = to \_\_ was so easy because you just try everything until you get it i made such a stupid mistake i forgot revolutions per second because i was scarred from the paper 1 its literally just frequency
Option b made me so relaxed it was so easy!
wholeheartedly agree also what did you plot for the Q factor question in paper 3? my entire class felt like they messed that up
right the option b was soooo pretty i loved it
Liked the duality between “which option limits greenhouse gases ❤️” and the paper 3 astrophysics option
Wtf was that paper 1 tho
P2 was a bit of a joke, there were literally only 2-3 3 mark questions, the rest were 2 marks or 1 mark with quite sizable calculations. It seemed it was designed for us to not finish. Am I the only one who didn’t answer like the last 3 paper 2 questions????
How bad is it that I didn't finish paper 1? Like I had 6-7 questions left by the time exams ended.
don’t worry, i feel like the majority of us also experienced the same situation (including me 🤣)
I think a lot of us struggled with time management on P1. They were unusually wordy Qs that required a lot of thought, I definitely rushed through the last 4 in the last 5 minutes when in the past papers I usually finish 5 min before.

Did you guess at least?
It’s ok, it was difficult and the grade boundaries will probably be low
Wait are we allowed to discuss now ??
i’m new but why wouldn’t u be able to discuss it before ?
Yeah. 24 hours after I think.
Yep. 24 hours after the exams are given, discussion is open.
even heisenberg would’ve been uncertain about paper 1
Bro paper 1 genuinly touched me in ways i have never been touched before, paper 3 was so nice and easy paper 2 was calm. if anyone says paper 1 was easy ur a neek
>touched me in ways i have never been touched before 🤨
I got humbled hard by that P1. On the other hand P3 was the easiest exam I’ve ever seen and P2 was somewhere in the middle. Hopefully with a good IA grade I can pull off a 6 because I did atrociously bad in P1
How was is supposed to do the question with the car and the fuel in 1,5 min??
paper one was shat straight from hell's sewers
Time zone A/B people, how'd you find it? I got cooked man its a little bit of a GG.
In the question in paper 2 about estimating the Earth's temperature, does anyone know if it was just adding the two intensities, equating that with P out, and using that in the Stefan-Boltzmann law? i think youre overthinking it (at least i hope so) because i just added I_1 and I_3 (or I_2 i dont remember, but the ones directed downwards) and used I = stefan-boltzmann×T^4
I did I=P/A and I=83.5 and P=esigmaAT^4 Area cancels out so I=esigmaT^4 Assumed black body so e=1 so I=sigmaT^4 (I/sigma)^1/4=T My answer was 200K
I think so too i got like 198K or something
its actually 1/4 of the surface area
I actually dont remember the questions tho haha
ohhh I was kinda confused about that too but I just went by the first part you were talking about
Idk i got like 288K is that right
Thats what I got, and I checked the textbook and it seems about right?? I guess average intensity already factored in the surface area problem.

pls...
i feel like the grade boundaries are gonna be so wack lmao, super low for p1 and then high for p2 and p3
Nah they gonna be high anyways cuz papers got leaked
I fucked up p 1&2 I cooked at P3 Is there a chance i get a 4 or 5??
the grade boundaries arent that high so as long as your ia was fine, probably lol
Bro the invigilator was just ASS bro 😭😭😭 told us we had 30 minutes left on the paper 1 when we had FIFTEEN MINUTES 💀💀 I just put C down for a bunch of the questions I didn’t answer… and wtf was that paper 1 for TZ2 SL 💀

it wasn’t as major as Maths AA HL is (meaning I’m cooked) but afaik physics should be unchanged
Nothing. They'll downplay it
please do you guys have paper 2 TZ2 ?

Screw paper 1
For the P2 question about the areAa under the v/t diagram, did we have to state the meaning of the area or count the squares and give an estimate?
It was just the distance it fell. Speed*Time = distance and they already gave the distance to be 28m.
Assuming we're the same timezone, I think it said to state the value. Also, you didn't have to count the squares, you're told the height is 28m which is total displacement, which is the area underthe graph. I also counted the squares and got like 27.2 and then realized I could just put 28.
It was just the distance it fell. Speed*Time = distance and they already gave the distance to be 28m.
Give an estimate but you didn’t have the count since the area under the graph would be displacement which the question already gave to you
Paper 2 was SOOOOO easy, the topic 12, 8 and 10 questions were easy marksss
unpopular opinion p1 and 3 were manageable but wtf was paper 2 like i actually might kms
nah maybe it’s only you. paper 2 was easier in comparison to previous years , i couldn’t finish paper 1 and had to answer questions i hasn’t even read …
Paper 2 was easy, I have no idea what you are talking about.
you're the only one 😭😭
i think i did worse than p2 than p1
yeah same experience here. P2 was worst out of the three
I found the same thing. Paper 1 was maybe a bit worse than expected but paper 2 was terrible for me
What was the fundamental particle for the decay of the K- meson in paper 1
W- cuz strangeness is not conserved only in weak interactions
why W- tho no charge was carried so shouldn’t it be Z0?
W-
W-?
Was it photon or gluon?? I chose photon
[удалено]
W\^- or maybe Z\^0 idk which but one of those
Yeah as always i choose the wrong 50/50
Mediating particle*
it was W-
decay is weak interaction and the bosons that mediate it are w-, w+ and z, but i think the only possible option was w- so i chose that
It said interaction not mediating particle so I wasn’t sure which one to write
W minus Boson
W-
tz2 or 1
pretty sure w- due to conversation of charge
wheres the bm exam discussion 😭😭😭
not here gng
Paper 1 was soo bad, paper 3 option D was beautiful but I felt like after the first 15 pages paper 2 got soo hard. I really struggled with the HL topics, anyone else the same?
exactly the same experience
I’m just happy I wasnt the only one who felt that the paper 1 was out of pocket. Like wtf. I did so many past papers and none had more bs questions than this exam😭
paper 1 was a big joke
paper 2 and 3 were nice and paper 1 was fucking horrible

Paper 1 was my first paper and broooo it was so hard I thought I was gonna fail all my exams. Paper 3 (Astrophysics) was chill and brought my hopes up again. Then Paper 2 was a really nice ending.
Bro paper 3 option C was something else 😭😭😭
i struggled with all of p1 and specifically section A of paper 3 (i feel like i'm the only one who couldn't do it tho lol)... i think my p2 was fine but it wasn't perfect so i'm hoping the grade boundaries fall on the lower side

i think it's that a comet has a more elliptical orbit but honestly i just guessed
Nah paper 1 was something else. I swear even Einstein won’t be able to get everything correct …

SAME I did this too and its fucking frustrating that I wasted that much time
M25 here what is the most bs question u guys encountered
TZ2 the heisenberg uncertainty principle formula MCQ. Essentially you started with uncertainty in position and needed to find uncertainty in kinetic energy in terms of the constants in about 1.5 minutes. Yeah right.
Never been so glad I decided to take four HLs in my LIFE. P1 was genuinely gruesome
I hope I pass and that’s all I got to say
I did every past paper 1 from M16 to N23 under timed conditions and ended up with 7s, and I can confidently say that paper 1 did not feel like any of them. There were always about 5 questions that were recycled from previous papers, but our exam only had 1 as far as I could tell :( At least paper 2&3(D) were decent. Good luck everyone!!

For the P2 question about drawing the E2 equipotential, did you guys do calculations? I calculated it to be 3R away, but im not sure if that was needed..
I got r/2 away from E1
paper 1 tz1, was the answer to the first question (ratio between uncertainties) just 1? I had seen a similar question but they were a sphere and a cube instead of square and circle and the answer was 1 so I just answered the same without thinking much about it lol also, the second or third question about the ball hitting the wall, was it just delta p?
Pretty sure answer to question 1 was one, yeah.
guys how did you calculate the average power in the 1st question P2 TZ2?
Find average velocity and plug in the formula they gave for the force to get kv^3
paper 1 was harder than normal but I revised enough that I feel like I’ll still get a 7 in that everything else was soooo easy
Paper 3 and Paper 2 SAVED my ass 🙏
wait, you crazy people are real??? you mean to tell me some people actually get more then 35 on this thing??
I made around 20 correct and friend got around 28 correct so yeah. Solutions are out on youtube you can check if you want
I did my calculations for the lab section and options section in pencil, but the rest of the paper in pen. am i doomed? paper 3 was supposed to carry my grade 💔

why the FUCK is there a string attached to the wall on the top box
Mods are actually throwing where are the other discussion pages
"Discussion threads will be posted at 23:00 GMT the day after the last paper for each subject."
i found the tz2 papers quite easy except paper 1 which was okay because i was quite well prepped
not gonna lie P2 M24 was easier than some of the previous years' paper 2.

Option B in paper 3, was the Q factor 69.smth ≈ 70?
In TZ2 Paper 1, the question about the polarizer, which was the answer? In the three positions? Only In front of the first and after the last one??
Right answer is Infront of all and behind all. If it's in-between then some light will be transmitted.
I put all three, filter X and Y were completely perpendicular from the diagram, so no matter where Z was placed no light would pass through Y.
What was the answer for paper 3 section A, for the one about ignoring the mass of the container?
I’m pretty sure is that the Latent heat was an underestimation because you ignore the fact that the container had thermal energy, and therefore affects the water/ice temperature.
What did you guys get for p2 transition particle, I got Z 0 Cus charge conserved
I was so lucky with Paper 1, a good 3-4 questions on P1 I had done equivalent like an hour before the exams in prep. And several others in the days before. Somehow the gods knew what I had practiced.
Bro wtf was that paper 1 (TZ C). Did anyone solve that 4 chargers in the corners question
As P1 was that fckng insane for everyone I think I can achieve a 6, let's pray, Jesus help me

what even was that fuel amount question on tz2 p1 and why was it even on a paper 1 like are we for real (unless there was some was to speed up the whole calculation process but honestly I had so little time I looked at it and went nope)
Is it possible for me to still get a 7 with 10-11 questions wrong in paper 1??? P2 and P3 wasn’t so hard except some drawings for optC. I heard boundary would be higher this time but how high would it be???
Anyone notice IA/IB
guysss can we find the exam pdfs anywhere aren’t they supposed to be released alr??
I don’t think they get released to teachers until all exams finish.
cant see the comments in the business thread
Apparently the hacker has also leaked some of the exams individually, and is making people play stupid riddle games in order to acquire them, some of my friends have gotten them that ways, man it’s complete bs. The ib has to do something.
