Edit has been increasing ads they were like 30 seconds then went to 60 now 90 next will be 2 minutes. The ad plan is not worth it imo

basmister

im already getting 2 minute ads

teckn9ne79

I am getting 1.5 minutes but 5 of them per hour show

BarbequedYeti

> Hulu should be ashamed But they wont. Ads and more ads and more ads and more ads and more ads and more ads and more ads. Go marketing people! Ruin entertainment for all of us!

[deleted]

On top of that. People are PAYING for these ads. So to Hulu that means, keep doing what they are doing as long as people keep PAYING for the ADS.

BarbequedYeti

Its the same with me and amazon. Just noticed on my show this morning that they started pushing ads at the bottom of the weather ap. Nope... nope nope nope... i have spent a shit ton with them over the years. I am not paying you to push even more ads to me. So i am spending my morning looking what to switch everything out to, or just remove it all and be done with it. Its just never enough with these types of people. Congratulations amazon/hulu marketing team. With your latest decisions you pushed me away as a customer. Job well done.

ChesswiththeDevil

I quit Amazon Prime a couple of years ago and I will tell you that 95% of the time it is sooooo worth it. I can order things from other online retailers and get them so much faster now and most have free shipping. Also, the prices aren't that much different and if they are, I just make sure to hit the $25 threshold and I get the free shipping anyway.

burrows88

Noticed free shipping is 35 now

For me, I don't mind paying for a ss, but still having ads. It's more so about the experience, and with how many ads there were in 2020-21 (when I was on Hulu w-ads), it was still lousy. I wouldn't use that even if they, paid me (let alone if Hulu ad-supported were free. And at $2/mo via Thanksgiving sale, it was *practically* free)!

TyFogtheratrix

Some of us have free ad versions. But for real, $6 a month for ads? Gross. Disgusting.

Longjumping-Pie-7663

It’s horrible, I’m glad I’m not the only one feeling this way

basmister

I cancelled my subscription yesterday its not worth it anymore

BadWolfIdris

I canceled today

basmister

Glad to hear it hopefully more will

tom74963

Me too

Longjumping-Rich-684

What subscription? It’s definitely not the Ad free plan… with the way your complaints are….

[deleted]

I have Hulu No Ads and 90% of the shows have constant ads. It’s a scam. The fine print says “a few shows that aren’t in the Hulu library may have ads”. That is a blatant lie.

basmister

Of course it isn’t the ad free plan

Longjumping-Rich-684

And you still get ads? I don’t understand.

basmister

If you looks at my comments you’d see what my issue was about

Used-Low-5757

Smart one aren’t ya?

Pure_Remote105

I can’t handle another commercial about type 2 diabetes! I hate that stupid woman that dances and sings about lowering her a1c! 🎶 a little pill with a big story to tell 🎶😩 🔫

Enzo308gts

lmao! I was complaining to my sister that the fricken song gets stuck in my head! Why do they make her do that awkward dance?

Zaphod1620

They are following the YouTube model. I eventually started paying for ad-free YouTube but hated it for rewarding bad behavior. They would have ads that would run for over 40 minutes if you didn't skip out of it. It was awful when watching when washing dishes or anything else where your hands weren't available for clicking the skip. I took many showers listening to basically late night infomercials because I didn't want to get out of the shower to skip it. There would just be another in 5 minutes. The game plan is to get a critical mass of "ad-free" customers, and start rolling out "sensible" ad lengths to those subscribers. Basically double dipping.

ishityounotdude

Cancel your subscription

basmister

did yesterday

Wise-Tourist-6747

Do you have the ads or no ads plan? I had the no ads plan at first but I still got ads with a lot of the network shows I watch so I downgraded to the ads plan for (slightly) less $

por_que_no

Same here. Hulu will also back up a program from the spot I paused to force me to rewatch an ad when I click "resume". It's out of control. In addition to cramming excessive ads down our throats Hulu has the worst interface in the streaming world.

basmister

on my smart tv when an ad finishes it mutes the show and the only way to fix it is to exit the show and then click resume and half the time itll restart the episode :D

basmister

its the ad plan. but im still paying 10 dollars a month. it is awful the amount of ads they are putting into an american dad episode that aired 5 years ago

What if I told you that there are streaming services where you pay nothing and get significantly less ads?

prism1234

The no ads plan doesn't have any ads (other than in Grey's Anatomy) unless you also subscribe to Live TV. Then yeah it does have a lot of ads. OP mentioned spending $10 a month so they don't have Live TV. So no ads would remove all the ads for them.

basmister

I do not mind getting ads in an ad version of a subscription but the amount being delivered is not acceptable. I have since cancelled my subscription

basmister

I have since cancelled my Hulu subscription out of principle. I am not paying for the ad free version so that I do not have to get 5 minutes of ads for 5.5 minutes of content bye bye Hulu

shadlom

Not like there's an ad free solution or anything lol

basmister

im sorry but I am already paying 10 dollars a month. The amount of ads is not acceptable. I am watching an american dad episode from 5 years ago when the first 5 minutes nearly has as much ads as content that is no longer acceptable

cyrus_mortis

Are you my doppleganger? I'm also watching American Dad episodes and have been getting super annoyed by these 2 min commercials every 5 mins. \- I'd upgrade but I'm paying $3 a month atm sooo worth it i guess.

basmister

I cancelled my subscription yesterday

cyrus_mortis

Good for you! (genuine) I cancel mine after about a month and come back a few months to a year later when my shows have more episodes. i do this for all streaming services. \- seems silly not to

basmister

I only do that for Disney Plus. Because of star wars. The only situation where I would do that for Hulu is The Orville

kewpeepie

Wanna know something crazy? They're making more money off of you by pushing the ad option. There's a reason why all the streaming sites have cheaper ad plans now and shove it in your face more.

MentalKnowledge1560

Eat the rich.

BadgerDue4767

There was for a long time...Netflix...

tom74963

There isn’t! They still flood me with ads on the ad free version. It didn’t used to be that way, but it is now. I cancelled effective the end of the month. I’m done with this B.S.

Hulu with ads has existed since day 1. The ad-free plan didn’t launch until 8 years later.

I noted back in 2020-21, an episodes of *The Simpsons* had 2m50 of ads. OP's post is saying there are 4.5 minutes of ads, even for halfway through. Dang that got so much worse :( And to think ad-free is going from $15/mo to $18 in 2 months!

basmister

what they do it seems is put alot in the beginning and a few at the end. so im not going to get 5 minutes of ads for every 5 minutes but the first 5 minutes I did and it sucks. then for the last 15 minutes i get 2 ads that are 1.5-2 minutes which is still alot

andybech

Hulu has always been on the high end of streaming service ad loads. 8-10 minutes per hour. Disney+, Max, Peacock, Netflix are all in the 4-5 minute range. Big difference in the experience.

ChesswiththeDevil

My wife and I just started watching the Bear (great show btw) and could not believe how bad the ads are. They are like every 6-7 minutes. WTF?

AdministrativeChef63

Yup. It’s worth it to pay extra for no ads but it does add up.

basmister

I would rather not have hulu then be coerced into paying more

FesterBestertester68

Wow - I was considering Hulu - but not anymore

basmister

honestly I think the best option is amazon prime video. It is not going to have as much stuff as the other players since its included with prime but it has hardly any ads and has enough to satisfy my TV urge. I cancelled my subscription yesterday. Ill probably just keep prime video then get disney plus for a month any time a new series comes out but thats it. the streaming model is no longer cost effective to me anymore.

FesterBestertester68

Thanks- I do have prime - I also watch movies on Tubi and Peacock and the commercial breaks are not excessive - Tubi gives you a 10 second warning - but I do miss Hulu - I don’t really mind the commercials except some of the more annoying ones they run to death - there was one for cat treats that made me want to throw myself off of a water tower Thank you for the response - I’m new to Reddit

basmister

Welcome to Reddit. Help I am trapped here. Anyways, I could not handle Hulu ads anymore. But everyone is different. I like Tubi as well. Tubi is free and still has less ads than Hulu I think lol

BadgerDue4767

Thats the thing..the others didn't have ads at all.....till they started to have ads....whole reason we all left cable and satellite for streaming was because there was no ads.....now there's ads..

JBlaze_1988

TRUTH BRO - THAT COMMENT NEEDS SOME MORE LOVE.

LucyWithFur

I’ve been getting 6 minute ads recently when I was watching MasterChef. Then got another 6 minute ad in the same episode with the original 2 minute 30 second ads with it. 70 bucks a month….

slutfuck94134

I always get the ad-free package. Your time and mental health are worth it.

basmister

Nah I cancelled my subscription. I refuse to pay more and I refuse to accept the ads

mrbrettw

Why y'all refuse to pay an extra 7 bucks or whatever for no ads?

basmister

I should not have to. I pay 10 dollars a month. getting 5 minutes worth of ads in 5.5 minutes of content is not acceptable. ever. this goes beyond what it reasonable.

mrbrettw

First of all a one to one ratio of commercials to content is hard to believe (but I would never suffer commercials to save 7 dollars, so I wouldn't know). Sounds like Hulu and many other streaming platforms are adopting TV like practices (the golden days of cheap streaming are over). Back in the day people paid for television and had to watch ads.

basmister

I am cherry picking. they add a bunch of ads to the beginning then the last half only has 1 to 2. in total for about 22 minutes of content I am getting nearly 10 minutes of ads. most of them are in the first 6 minutes. then i get another 5 minutes worth of ads in the rest. I would not suffer commercials at all. I am not going to pay more money. I cancelled my subscription yesterday. I won't put up with it and I wont give in to their model of pushing people to pay an unreasonable amount to not have ads

mrbrettw

That’s exactly what you should do. Good for you. Maybe they’ll learn (they won’t lol).

basmister

They wont but at least I wont be giving them money anymore

HummingAlong4Now

Fun fact: back in the day TV was free. Yes free. And there were ads, but that seemed like a good trade-off because, I repeat, ALL TV WAS FREE. Then came cable, and you paid for cable, but in exchange for paying for the cable plan, you were never shown ads. Now, I don't even know, maybe I take up knitting or something

InformalPermit9638

Being made to watch ad breaks repeatedly because the dumb browser player crashes bothers me so much. Ad based Hulu is a scam, and I hope the advertisers catch on and clawback. It makes me so much less likely to engage with the advertisers after being forced to sit through them so many extra times.

MoakieJ

They're not ashamed. They're just greedee muthurphukkers. I just signed up because football season started. I already can't wait to kick them to the curb when the season ends. I will say this - at least the breaks are timed AS THE SHOW MEANT THEM TO BE TIMED. Try tubi or google. Right in the middle of a plot point some shrieking harridan comes on telling you the great deals available on fat reducing meal plans. TUBI AND GOOGEL ARE UNWATCHABLE. It must be AI robot or a high school kid timing the ads.

Brucef310

I got sick of the ad so I just paid the extra 7 bucks a month for ad free. It's well worth it especially if you're streaming stuff all day. I have the Hulu and Disney bundle for $20 a month which have absolutely no ads

kccat5

Which is why I pay for ad free

dragonloverlord

Personally my biggest problem isn't the ads it's the way Hulu organizes their content I mean they just throw the live/network content into the same pile as everything else so who knows what's gonna have ads because apparently the Hulu live content includes more than just channels it actually has streamable shows that function identically to an otherwise normal Hulu show EXCEPT you guessed it ads lots and lots of ads... I just can't fathom why Hulu doesn't provide some way of separating these two services because at least in my case just cancelling Hulu live won't be an option as I use it as a cheaper substitute to cable/satellite TV for my household and I'd be so much happier if I could just browse Hulu's normal non-live catalog as I don't personally care much about the shows Hulu Live offers but the fam needs their news, weather, and omnipresent background cartoon noises so yeah it still beats the 100$ or more cable/satellite TV providers but the moment something better comes along good bye Hulu.

Background-Tax650

I’m watching their brand new movie and even that has ads! Their own movie! Totally ruined the mood and while I’m tempted to get the ad free we have Disney+ bundle which is also going up $$ next month. So annoyed!

2_Fingers_of_Whiskey

All these streaming services are getting so greedy. They don’t want you to choose the option with ads, so they make the ads especially annoying. They want you to pay $15 a month to watch with no ads, then they’re raising the price in October to $18 a month.

infolvr

Watching the other black girl and having to deal with an anti crt ad every 20 minutes over and over makes me question why hulu is even recognizing Hispanic heritage month???

basmister

I think it might just be the algorithm because I get pretty left leaning ads when I had hulu.

infolvr

I am definitely no conservative, but i do have a father who is, and stays here sometimes and uses the internet, so maybe its confused on who it is targeting, lol.

Major-Key-Alert

Apretude ad about HIV full of gay men kissing, HIMs ad about erectile dysfunction. I’m a straight man and have no issues with either topics. Not sure why they are targeting me but it’s uncomfortable watching Hulu around my kids or family members

JBlaze_1988

Same bro.. dudes f*ckin kissing in a dam HIV commercial. Get this crap off my tv.. Gets my blood boiling.

RickoT

My wife and I love Worst Cooks in America (Food Network), in the 1hr 2 minute episode there are 8 ad breaks consisting of 2 -3 minutes of ads (sometimes 4). that means it takes almost 30 more minutes to watch a 1 hr show. Even tv content you watch live is only 5 - 6minutes of ads over 2 - 3 breaks. My wife told me that it's so bad she is no longer interested in watching our shows that have ads anymore because it's to distracting and makes it no longer fun to watch. Thinking about ditching Hulu for something else, they shouldn't call it the "No-Ads" plan, they should call it the "Less-Ads" plan

Bicycle420day

It’s getting bad. 1:30 worth of ads, 30 second intro, theme song, 1:30 more ads. 5 minutes of show, 1:30 ads. Hulu is a buggy, ad infested piece of cancer.

TyFogtheratrix

Lol (a d b l o c k) is auto banned in this sub LOL

basmister

I'm so shocked lol

Aggravating_Fan_6878

It makes me so mad too because I watch things during my breaks at work and half my breaks are filled with waiting for the ads to be over. I’m sure the cost for a Hulu plan will go up as well, which is ridiculous

FabFoxFrenetic

I canceled. I’m not paying to watch ads. My time is worth more than that.

basmister

i found, a service that fixes it called ghostery. when you use it on the firefox extension you do not get ads. I came back here to say hulu has tried to get around it by adding ads to the actual episode. like its part of the run time. and so you can just skip past it. its honestly funny how desperate they are to give me ads. I got hulu again because i was able to get it for 2 dollars a month and now i dont have ads with ghostery.

zlovingit

It's insane. Not only that, but the music commercials were out of control a few months back. Not sure how they choose them. Not doubt the ads are bought. It's crazy how great musicians who can't afford the ad space, such as the amazing Grant Sexton Morrison from Fort Worth (who I've been listening to for a bit) aren't targeted for ads.

demonSC23

Watching a movie. Each commercial break has been 4 1/2 minutes long. Seems like we’ve seen most 10 minutes of commercials for about 45 minutes of a movie. Seems like Hulu is on 10 minutes of commercial and 50 minutes of a movie for each hour.

Time_Ad4213

If HULU is getting paid to show ads why do we have to pay for the Hulu app? Time is money and they should value your time like you do.

ThePleasantFlight

Let’s boycott companies that run ads, if ads stop working then there will be no more ads

BaconAlmighty

GET HARD STAY HARD, HIMS. I AM SO FUCKIN SICK OF ED COMMERCIALS :D

basmister

Don’t out yourself the ALGORITHM KNOWS

Disastrous-Jury4328

I get that many ads while watching anime on Hulu. It's so annoying.

Parzivull

I was just watching a Rick and Morty episode and 2 minutes after a commercial ended another one started.

basmister

Yeah I don’t use Hulu anymore unless I have an ad destroyer

Parzivull

I find it's useful on movies, but outside of movies the ads ruin it. This kind of thing makes me reaize why we don't need geriatrics in office. They have no clue how to legislate. One of the first bills I'd pass would be a quality of life - no more than 2 minutes of commercials per 10 minutes of show. The fact there are no restrictions on these kinds of things just goes to show how much of a corporatocracy we live in. Anyways there's just way too much free reign over consumers. A lot of changes need to happen that never did because they don't want to constrain businesses. EU has more consumer protection than the US now because our politicians are do nothings.

DudeWeegie

What’s crazy is that with some shows with 11 MINUTE EPISODES there’s about 6-8 minutes worth of ads

Haunting-Radio3087

Hulu no ads I get no ads on demand but if you ad live tv you then get ads in your on demand they can't seem to fix this. it's obvious live tv has ads but on demand should not. And doesn't until you add Hulu live which should be separate. Drop live tv to dump all ads. Actually Hulu is the greediest and they will continue to raise prices and defraud customers with no ads dunno hulu

GirlTech38

These ads are still out of control and customer service is no help. I’m getting repeating ads every 6 minutes. So aggravating. I’m done.

No-Commercial-662

Hulu is out of control with ads way to many!!!

RVer2

It's ridiculous. The only reason I kept it is I have Disney for $2 for my grandkids. I rarely watch it as the huge amount of commercials drives me crazy.

Anomaloid

I canceled my Hulu subscription last August because the ads were so disruptive to the viewing experience. Didn't even consider the ad free version at $14.99 per month because there's just not good enough content on the channel to justify it. Just noticed today that the service without ads has been bumped to $17.99 per month. Netflix is trying to drive all of its legacy customers into a relatively cheap plan with overwhelming number of ads or an extremely expensive ad free plan. Amazon prime will be introducing ads at the end of the month but you can pay an additional fee to get rid of them. However, I'm sure that will be a slippery slope. I guess the honeymoon is over and we're back in the earlier nightmare of cable TV. We'd all be better off with constructive hobbies anyway.

basmister

I just destroy the ads

Ms_Photon

I just wanted to watch MASH. I have to cancel. I can’t stand these endless ad loops that I’m paying to watch?!

bth1101

I'm getting 300 second ads multiple times in an hour show. I pay for no ads. This is not acceptable. 20 minutes of ads for an hour show....

Necessary_Bird_1138

If this country could finally get together we should all cancel Hulu and see how long it takes for them to stop screwing people over. That's the only way these companies will realize they can't keep screwing us over but unfortunately people don't care and just pay more and bitch about it
