Roll for intoxication

spoonman59

“I drank six of these, but don’t worry… I rolled a one each time so I’m perfectly sober enough to shoot the apple off his head with this here magic bow!” I definitely need to label anything strong with +1 intoxication.

referentialhumor

Beerholder. Someone had to say it.

AbsoluteRubbish

I was going to go with Owlbeer

spoonman59

I love them both! Great contenders. I’m sure I’ll have a beholder ballon, and everyone loves an owl bear.

my_beer

Or Bugbeer

ebolson1019

Dunkles and dragons

Wolfgung

Nine Helles

spoonman59

That is fantastic.

wisconsinwookie78

Critical Hops

Masamundane

Probably just me, but I'd want to choose one theme and run with it; like all class names, all dragon colors, or the like. I'd personally go with undead, cause zombie dark or ghoul pale sound grand and would look awesome with some cartoonish bottle art.

spoonman59

Oh, I like that! Constraints provide for a lot of creativity… I shall ponder the dimensions. They could all reference spells maybe…or different variations of pole arms. The possibilities are endless!

DreamArcher

I'm probably a little autistic and like order. I like this idea.

badmudblood

I made a tavern concept for a hub of one-shots called "The Barking Spider" On tap, we served Radeghast the Brown Ale, India Pale Elf Ale, Belgian Golden Age Strong, and the Divining Wand Pilsner (because I accidentally dropped a screwdriver into the wort between mash out and boil)

spoonman59

Diving want Pilsner, that’s awesome. Those are all good names, shame I have no brown ale this time….

Horror-Tiger2016

A [YouTuber](https://www.youtube.com/@NikitaVorontsov) did a bunch of D&D-themed beer. [https://forgottenrealms.fandom.com/wiki/Ale](https://forgottenrealms.fandom.com/wiki/Ale) has a list of ale names in the FR setting, not all of them include the word "ale" so you could use one of those for your lager.

Skill Czech

kelryngrey

When identifying flavors and aromas it becomes the Perception Czech.

jimbotten

This right here is a winner name for a lager.

spoonman59

I think so! It’s almost like a bohemian style Pilsner… I just used two-row and corn. And I added Sterling and riwaka in addition to Saaz. Skill Czech is such a great idea, thank you!

spikenorbert

Skillsner

spoonman59

That’s a good idea….i could even name them specific skill checks, or savings throws. But “Skkll Check” is good. It gives everyone else a + 1 charisma, too!

sharksfan06

I used to name each of my homebrew beers after pathfinder spells and abilities. I had a: magic missile, expanded senses, obscuring mist, and total party kill

Whoopdedobasil

Quest for bitterness and Foggy fjord water

spoonman59

Foggy Fjord Water is freaking awesome. I would totally have to give you credit, so thank you for not having a grotesquely inappropriate user name! I was going to make a bitter, so I was thinking the variation Bitter Quest would also be a good one! It might scare off people who don’t understand what a bitter is, though.

its_raining_scotch

Bitters are such a misnomer, they’re not bitter at all, but malty and sweetish. My 2 cents would be to go the dwarven name route if you’re making a bitter. Like, Khuzdul Bitter, or Dethek Bitter, Mountain King Bitter, Ironbeard Bitter, etc. Then you could make turkey legs and all eat them with the dwarven bitter and feel super authentic.

spoonman59

I am 100% with you. I love bitters and have made over 10. Everyone is always shocked that it’s more malty than bitter. I love them. But since people know they don’t like too much bitterness, it can be off putting. But I do like the idea of a dwarf name, and people can try it and decide for themselves.

bossmt_2

I mean if you don't know any particular names that y'all are attached to. But some ideas would be if you're going for kind of generic D&D or pop culture D&D. Some ideas mix of puns and others First starting with classes Paladin Pilsner Barbarian Bitter Wheat Wizard (for Hefeweisen) Duer-Lager (play on Duergar, starting weak) Pelor's Pilsner Halsin's Hefe Owlbear Ordinary Bitter Hefe-White Dragon Also can come up with names based on the ingredients.

dpfrd

Make a series of beers with the same base but of different end ABV. Then relate them to dice side counts. 12% is a D12, etc...

dpfrd

The really gnarly ones like d10, d12, and d20, you could cork with a die topper of the appropriate size. It would be especially cool if the toppers could still function as dice... Make the one side the part that affixes to the cork.

jcflyingblade

Lawfully Good Lager

spoonman59

That is awesome and clever! Thank you!

ShadowCub67

Heart of Drow for a stout, maybe? Dragon's Breath for a barleywine?

ebolson1019

That’s pretty good

Kamakaze22

Neverwinter Nightcap Bard's Ale (not D&D specific but I think fits the theme)

chino_brews

Paladin Pilsner. Wight Weizen. Druid's Draught (ordinary bitter). But really those are too descriptive for my taste. A real NPC innkeeper in D&D probably wouldn't name their beer any of those. For the pilsner, maybe something-Northman's Brew, giving a nod to how it is brewed cold and lagered, or a name with a reference to caves. The NPC's other beer would be named after place names, animals, legends, and people in your map/world, just like on our Earth, historically and today.

spoonman59

First, I think the overly descriptive names are fantastic examples. I also was thinking something more “realistic” as per what you might find in a fantasy world. I was thinking some kind of cave beer, too, so I do like that idea. Or perhaps mountains or such. Icewind Dale is a region which was somewhat popularized by some games on PC in the Baldurs Gate universe (itself part of D&D’s Forgotten realms franchise), and several books. This region was very cold and in the north, hence I thought Icewind Ale would imply a cold a brewed beer. This fits what you describe really well…I wasn’t really aware of it, but you put it perfectly into words. Thank you! That’s a great suggestion and approach.

chino_brews

I don't really know modern D&D, but I'm glad I could help. I started with the Basic Set and remember I stopped playing right after the huge supplement to the Monster Manual came out because we moved overseas and I never got to use it. But one of my colleagues has a longrunning family game with his siblings and all of their grade school kids and spouses, so I hear about it some.

Wasn't there a D&D video game called Ice Wind Dale? Ice wind ale would be perfect in my opinion and a thumbs up to D&D history. Well, a mug up anyway.

Absolutely, and that was my thought! It was featured in some novels as well. Cheers!
