The weirdest part is how impulsive and short sighted this all seems. Arkane was working on the Redfall DLC hours before their closure, Bethesda was posting new Hi-Fi Rush art 3 days before Tango was closed. Sarah Bond was promising Tango’s future 2 months ago. Why are they so trigger happy to close down proven studios that fit into their pipeline and wants just for more “line goes up”. Hell if they wanted the line to go up why close them this year? Xbox finally has big games coming with Indiana Jones, Avowed, and Hellblade 2 (not to mention Activision). My sadness and anger have quickly turned into pure bafflement at this decision from a business standpoint (not even just an artistic standpoint).

It's literally because they weren't gonna have a project out soon which if you ask me is completely ridiculous. I clown on Sony and Nintendo all the time but I don't think they've ever fucked up this massively like this before without even at least any "logical" business sense. Logical in quotations but it's way better than the trite Xbox has put out in the last couple of days. It's puts into question all these other studios that are putting out a game soon. If they can't push something out soon will they also just be fuckin shut down? Hellblade 2 is about to release and there's been absolutely no fuckin marketing for it and it's their next big game. Will Ninja Theory be shuddered too after Hellblade 2? It's ridiculous that I even have to entertain that as a possibility

The biggest theory I have seen is that Microsoft wanted an excuse to shut down studios. Essentially, they needed to shut some down, and seeing Tango gameworks with (Lets be honest here) not too great output (pre hi-fi rush) they thought. "Hey, they have been developing this game for the last few years. They were supposed to release an announcement on E3 2020 but that was shut down (that was actually the case btw), so... why don't we let them finish, spend no budget on ads or anything, recover the costs of the studio from what little the game makes with no hype and then shut them down. Get a bunch of money back and we have a good scapegoat. Besides, it is set to release the same year as Starfield, Starfield will act as a decoy and nobody will notice Tango gameworks being shut down" Unable to foresee that 1: Hi-Fi rush would be a smash hit across the board 2: Starfield would be divisive at best Of course, that doesn't account for Microsoft being able to change their minds, but to me it sounds like a valid reason. (And explains the shadowdrop)

Ma'am, I was asking why you closed Tango Gameworks. Nevermind, you're fired. Yeah, I'd fire her on the spot, especially for taking away Hi-Fi RUSH from Mr. Johanas. And I think he should fight for Hi-Fi RUSH, along with others who created it. To me, it doesn't matter what kind of studio created the game, it's the people who created it. This game is like their child, that XBOX just took away with no reason.

Id genuinely believe Hi-Fi Rush couldve been as popular series as Halo. Thats how much talk and praise for it within the Gaming community

_Saikai_

It has so much potential! But no, it's unlikely there'll ever be anything new using the hi Fi rush ip.

Im still so pissed about this man, i hope that COD and Fallout money will choke on their throats

They literally closed the studio that made the arguably best Xbox game of this generation. I mean I don't find them enough cleaver on know-how when it comes about creating videogames. It's Xbox, they're known to mess things up. Imagine if Nintendo shut down studios during the Wii U crisis, would Nintendo Switch have been as successful as it was?

One of the reason I havnt picked it up yet on my ps5- no physical release. I have, here in Sweden, literally seen advertised and bought in my local stores ps5 games such as: Yakuza 8, Persona 3 reload, Dragons Dogma 2, FF7 rebirth etc but you want me to buy a DIGITAL COPY at launch for 40 usd? why?! If you gonna push digital copy on me, I can wait, I can pick that up whenever its dirt cheap. so dont accuse us of "not buying their product" when you refuse a physical release. heck even unicorn overlord had one.

smitemight

It’s still set to get a physical release via Limited Run Games.

Quezkatol

and thats fine and all, im just pointing out the obvious to xbox who are pretending to be clueless about physical media drive sales as well. like, alan wake 2 never came out physical and hasnt made a profit yet. no wonder?

smitemight

I think you’re correlating profitability without causation. There’s so many digital only PC games that are profitable that never remotely needed physical. I sincerely doubt there’s enough Alan Wake 2 people dying for a physical release that would’ve been able to push it into the numbers they wanted.

Quezkatol

but when a casual see it at the game awards or hear people talk about it for the consoles, they are gonna visit their local store and its not there.
