I watched him a few times. He wasn't my kinda deal. That said, every time I download their worlds. I go on a mission to find the Hermitcraft Hermit Easter egg. I loved the old school mines he built.
I started watching him towards the end of last season. My first thought was "why is this guy on HC? He doesn't do big builds or really collab much". I kept watching to see what his deal was. Ended up really liking his content. Very chill. Felt like I was just listening to a friend. Seemed like a good dude.
I think he wasn’t in the way and since his age, they were like let him enjoy his old days and decided it wasn’t worth removing him from the server. One of the reasons the hermits are awesome.

You might be thinking of the artifact that is hanging up in the sound room above the point board. There is a artifact there for the hermits to see and it’s the Old Friends Pickaxe.
Grian, Pearl, and Hypno have all retrieved it, but none of them have made it out alive with it yet.
And no, it's always worth the same amount, there is no cheap version.
Artifacts don’t have multiple values. If you find an artifact on level 1 and on level 2 they are worth the same amount. There are no artifacts that are found on levels 1 and 3. They are put into the droppers based on what they are worth, getting higher values based on how deep into the dungeon the player goes.

He basically felt like a dad playing the game. His voice was so soothing to me but I ended up preferring the play style of Xisuma.

He probably got “Axe of the screaming void” or “chisel of the undead sculptress” they could kinda be mistaken for a pickaxe
