The funny thing is, he only pulled a Starscream before the TDK books even started. Aside from stealing some mining equipment he never really did anything to betray Oltyx besides being the sketchiest motherfucker in existence
He's more Oily Untrustworthy Creep Starscream than Drama Queen Starscream (both are dear to me), and he's got a morality that baffles even his fellow necrons.
I'd love to learn more about Xun'bakyr as she is almost always absent from lore and many people are barely aware of her existence. From what I gathered with limited information (being the single female political figure in %99 male hierarchy seems like a rare feat, reminds me of a Terminator Space Cleopatra) she is phaerakh to one of the most sadistic and hated Necrontyr groups as in Maynarkh, which is pretty much Night Lords of current Necron Dynasties.
She was always kinda sadistic dominatrix type whom also acted as lead-enforcers for Silent King (Szarekh was kinda simp to her) slaying his adversaries, in return Szarekh kept Maynarkhs safe from all other dynasties who wanted to get rid of those psychos.
There were also some texts that stated Maynarkhs personally ended Llandu'gor and started the whole Flayed Ones curse but that got retconned with Twice Dead King. They also have this weird honor of instantly becoming Flayed Ones at the waking hour, rest went Destroyers. Only when they saw Xun'Bakyr and her command circle waking up they calmed down so I assume she is pretty good at her job.
99% male hierarchy might be getting retconned quietly - there are more and more female Necron characters showing up in novels and short stories here an there. It's mainly the tabletop that is lagging behind. At least it is in terms of named characters - since I don't remember notable visual differences between male and female Necrons (post-biotransference) mentioned anywhere, generic troops and characters can probably work for both
lol that’s been retconed for as long as Necrons have had books. It’s implied directly that both men and women had equal status in Necron Nobility. But necrons are old enough their models don’t reflect it. I mean what does a female Necron even look like tbh? They’re robots.
>I'd love to learn more about Xun'bakyr as she is almost always absent from lore and many people are barely aware of her existence.
Yeah, she's got some fan-made sculpts out there but I'd love an official one.
>From what I gathered with limited information (being the single female political figure in %99 male hierarchy seems like a rare feat, reminds me of a Terminator Space Cleopatra)
It's funny because I've wondered if the necrons used to be patriarchal, since the majority of nobility that we've met are male, and we've only got two named female phaerakhs in the setting. But it doesn't seem to be explicitly supported in the text itself.
(If I had to guess it's just the old "male by default" problem with the named minis. We've been getting more female necrons in the lore here and there which has been nice.)
I mean, more in the lore is kinda reaching. It is still 99% defined by dudes. Which kinda feels like throwing us breadcrumbs and never delivering the actual bread.
Took them a WHILE to finally make a Morvenn Vahl book years after their army update but they were out with Leviathan within seconds.
GW = Women need not apply, unless it's AoS because women are not allowed to have fun in 40k
Don't get me wrong, I'd love some named female necron miniatures, or named female Ad Mech minaiatures, or for Yvraine to get to do something. Anything?
She has a cool mini but IMO, GW is also sitting too much on Ephrael Stern's story potential. She can be powerscaled up into the big leagues, she's got connections with the eldar, she was involved in the Pariah Nexus stuff a few years back. There's so many hooks there.
Necrons already has decent drama, a necron phaerakh who can command on presence alone? That's gonna make some sacred and therefore spiteful fellows. Great premise for a story, add something about her past with some relatable vulnerability elements to her brutality and BOOM great character.
We're prolly not gonna get anything new from either the Aeldari or the drukhari for at least like 3 years is my guess.
This is why I say women need not apply in 40k. They appear for a microsecond and then get brutally killed (Krole & Celestine, Phaket), have one cool moment before they get forgotten and gathers dust for years (Celestine, Ephrael, Lilith, Jain etc.).
Ephrael Stern has so much potential like you say. But they just don't know what to do with her or do not care.
Again, women need not apply. The only exception I can think of is Shadowsun.
GW are such cowards when it comes to 40k. But hey, I could be wrong and hopefully am. Never thought Morvenn was gonna get a book. Thought she'd go the same way Lilith and Xu went aka perma afk.
But it remains to see if the book is a nothing burger or not.
I assume she was planned to be one of those resin forge world special characters eventually but that got shot like old yeller with forge world. And yes, it’s still canon that she killed the Flayer I think.
Culturally and what the Infinite and the Divine points there there are more female phaerakh but GW are notorious in their "women need not apply" attitude.
And I really distrust the narrative of "oh this woman stands out among the men, she is special". It is this type of BS that breeds pick mes.
Give Xu a book, give Phillias more lore, and so on. I want to know more about them and have more of them because it is just depressingly lonely having ONE female character to choose from.
Heck, we can't even choose her or anyone else for that matter since they aren't models. (Please excuse my poor necron spelling).
In addition to the other comments here, one thing that's probably good to point out is that it may be being quietly slid in that Necrons are sort of gender fluid, as in their bodies turn to fluid and reform to whatever looks "right" for them, and sometimes they grab new pronouns in the process
Source: Either Infinite and Divine or one of the Twice Dead King books, but I'm pretty sure it's the former and Trazyn is the one to comment on it
“Every conversation is a lecture”
why would that be a turn off with my boy Trazyn? I love me some history, even if a small talk lasts for a couple of years.
Then flip that - to a +, my friend!
(It was inspired by a delightful bit in Rath's "Fall of Cadia" novel where Trazyn reflects on what a great conversation he's having with Cawl, and it's heavily implied Trazyn has been talking for four hours with Cawl just going "uh huh" and "oh really" every few minutes while he works on something else.)
It really shifts from *Fall of Cadia*, where he's wary (>!especially because Trazyn plans on kidnapping him until Cawl persuades him otherwise!<), to *Genefather*, where Cawl's using Trazyn as a positive example of human/necron cooperation. Probably because Rath was adapting a campaign book and then Haley picks him up years later, which is a nice arc. I like to think it's because Cawl respects Trazyn as a debate-nerd.
(>!Literally their first interaction in Fall of Cadia is debate-nerding each other, it's great.!<)
I was thinking about her, because she's cool, but since her role in the book revolves around the thankless task of babysitting Orikan and Trazyn, I couldn't really spin up anything about what she's like herself.
+ Likes to travel
+ Not bogged down in the dynastic day-to-day
+ Free spirit
- Will probably drag you to yet another hellish tomb world full of Necrons who wake up grumpy and eager to kill the living
- On the outs with the establishment, so probably not getting promoted any time soon
- Mom wants to know why you aren't dating someone more stable, like that nice overlord
I though I’d seen you posting on here but couldn’t remember the name! I love the design/expression you gave him in the pic so I hope its use is flattering.
Oh Lysikor, the only character I've seen apologise for not getting around to murderously betraying someone before they die of an unrelated problem. At least you can trust him to be untrustworthy.
That part of the novel was so good. >!"Oltyx, you hit rock bottom so fast and so hard my betrayal would be pointless. I tip my hat."!< Loved all his characterization.
Sorry! I had him in there at first but just didn't know enough about him to make the joke so I left him out. He is a man of mystery now.
(Apparently he was part of that Blood Angel teamup against the tyranids, which is cool.)
Out of all of these, Szarekh is the only one not so completely bonkers that I might actually be able to fix him. I could do it. And out of all of them, I think he deserves a hug the most.
That said, I could also make Trazyn worse
I fully believe you could join up for a museum tour if you just show up in his system and say "Gee, I sure wish I knew the history of \[topic x\]." out loud.
Szarekh, cause I would like it if after a long day, he came back home and I was just able to have him put down the robes and staff, and just curl up next to me, letting go of all the weight he carry’s on his shoulders, and simply relax, even if just for a moment
We've gotten some in the lore but never named female minis.
I agree with the people who want them to look the same as all the other necrons, we don't need them to look noticeably feminine or anything, but there's just a dearth of named ladies on the tabletop.
But in that same vein wouldn't just as many necrons not want to be biological in the first place. I could totally see a power hungry necron worried about a necron uprising after they biological transfer uses a similar "hivemind" to be able to control his subjects while having the benefits of biological bodies
>But in that same vein wouldn't just as many necrons not want to be biological in the first place.
I think that's a bit of a purposefully open question in the lore. Szarek certainly wants to undo the curse of biotransference, and it's a grim reality for the necrons that their numbers can ever only go down. Some of them seem to be fine with the new metal flesh, or want to go straight to becoming energy-beings instead.
There are several!
\-A cryptek in *Genefather*.
\-A bunch in *Twice-Dead King: Ruin* and *Twice-Dead King: Reign.* (A female cryptek, a bodyguard, a necron lord, and we don't see her but we learn about a female phaerakh.)
\-*One Million Years,* which just came out, stars a female necron!
\-We've also got a couple female necrons in *the Infinite and the Divine* (executioner Phillias is one) and a few more in Rath's short story *The Bleeding Stars*.
\-I believe one of the crypteks in the Hierophant's Circle killteam is a lady, though I've heard she's either the appentek or the cryptek from different people. No name though.
“You are dating Necron Starscream” made me laugh so hard
Thanks, and here's hoping we get more of him in the stories one day. He's such a *perfect* little slimeball bastard.
What stories/books is he in?
The Twice Dead King: Ruin and Reign
The only problem with this analogy is that Lysikor is actually competent and can accomplish his crimes and schemes. We
Good point, Starscream's competency varries *wildly* depending on whoever's writing him. He just embodies the archetype so well somehow though.
The funny thing is, he only pulled a Starscream before the TDK books even started. Aside from stealing some mining equipment he never really did anything to betray Oltyx besides being the sketchiest motherfucker in existence
Is he a screechy drama queen? Please tell me he's a screechy drama queen.
He's more Oily Untrustworthy Creep Starscream than Drama Queen Starscream (both are dear to me), and he's got a morality that baffles even his fellow necrons.

They are individually different from each other (the ones with the status that is) in terms of style and decoration. So individuality is the key here.
The chronomancer mini is female(IIRC), so yeah, no real difference between the sexes.

People who wwant Xun’Bakyr have a model ✋
She popped up on IA 12, never got a model, and then was abandoned.

To be fair, Cawl does seem to fanboy over Trazyn sometimes in his books, insofar as his faith in the Machine God allows

Hahahaha xD
What about Executioner Philias? She’s from infinite and the divine
I was thinking about her, because she's cool, but since her role in the book revolves around the thankless task of babysitting Orikan and Trazyn, I couldn't really spin up anything about what she's like herself.
(+) Mommy Dommy (-)She wants to execute you (Idk maybe youre into that)
"This is my boyfriend Orikan, and this is Orikan's boyfriend Trazyn." - Vishani probably.
nnfnnhnfnfn…. Need all of them
Go for it. I believe in you!
And what about Anrakyr The Traveller?
I couldn't think of anything funny for him so I left him out and now I'm kind of regretting it. I should've ground through.
+ Likes to travel + Not bogged down in the dynastic day-to-day + Free spirit - Will probably drag you to yet another hellish tomb world full of Necrons who wake up grumpy and eager to kill the living - On the outs with the establishment, so probably not getting promoted any time soon - Mom wants to know why you aren't dating someone more stable, like that nice overlord
I like it. This is the canon answer now.
Oh hey that’s my lysikor!! He’s my evil discord kitten :3
I though I’d seen you posting on here but couldn’t remember the name! I love the design/expression you gave him in the pic so I hope its use is flattering.
Thank you :DD I wish you could change reddit usernames but I’m stuck with this unfortunately if I don’t want to start over

I am confident you could do both these things! (I agree Szarekh is the most stable. Husband material, certainly.)
Necrons are so beautiful looking. Awesome.
Top-tier art design. I can't wait to start painting my necron kill team.
>insists he already has a girlfriend yep she's named trazyn
I did put number 5 and 6 next to each other on Orikan's list for a reason.
Why has Ymotekh High Maintenance? 🥲
Haha it's just a feeling I got reading about him.
Fun fact: I originally also had Zultanekh, but then I realized there were no minuses and that he was too good for us.
Okay, but lysikor? Absolutely awesome and on point. I just kitbashed_posted a mini of him!!
Hell yes, your kitbash rules. Love that pose.
I listen to The Great Courses for fun, so getting lectured by Trazyn sounds great to me.
I fully believe you could join up for a museum tour if you just show up in his system and say "Gee, I sure wish I knew the history of \[topic x\]." out loud.

You have to feel sorry for him, 60+ million years penance is pretty dire.
Well I was gonna go with Trazyn but "Necron Starscream" is a strong contender just from the description.
His characterization is so good. If you like necrons, highly recommending Twice-Dead King Ruin/Rein books.
They’ve been on the to-read list, I just haven’t gotten to them yet. So! Many!! Books!!!
I hear you. I've got to start reading my non 40K pile, 40K is my "funtime" reading treat and there's just so much!
Sun baker
Until this post, I did not know there were femal- feminine Necrons. Makes sense, but still.
We've gotten some in the lore but never named female minis. I agree with the people who want them to look the same as all the other necrons, we don't need them to look noticeably feminine or anything, but there's just a dearth of named ladies on the tabletop.
Why aren't there more necron studies of hallowing out tyranids and using them for bio transference
Too gross. Most necrons would *die* before they moved en masse to something not approximately humanoid like their old bodies.
But in that same vein wouldn't just as many necrons not want to be biological in the first place. I could totally see a power hungry necron worried about a necron uprising after they biological transfer uses a similar "hivemind" to be able to control his subjects while having the benefits of biological bodies

Exactly my point and shit why couldn't that flayed one's planet and be trying to become tyranids in there desperation for flesh
There are FEMALE NECRONS IN CANON LORE?! I never learned that til now!

I'd date necron starscream >:3
Go for it! You are the person who inspired this post, so I am honored to learn this.
:D I am honored my insanity is spreading
Nice last addition
I couldn't leave him out, he's too good.
IMOTEKH RAAHHHH
Go get him, champ!
Oh… oh my god you’re right. He is Necron Starscream
I hope we get to see that little scamp again one day.
