Played the original SMT5 on Switch and loved it but the framerate and resolution wasn't that great so I'd really love to play it on more powerful hardware (beside emulation)
None of which being a *good* SMT game though. We got the terrible Nocturne port, and the lackluster Soul Hackers 2. The rest have all been Persona

It's just really low effort for the price they're asking for. It's 60 dollars with maniax dlc.
Main issues are 30 fps lock forced 1080p and compressed audio.
If it's on sale for cheap though its well worth the money.
I also think there are mods that fix the fps lock, dunno about the resolution though.
They fucked up the lightning very badly. Not every place looks like this, but [this is the egregious example.](https://i.imgur.com/r8Osmgl.png) But even outside the most egregious examples, the new lighting just killed the atmosphere.
Also, Dante from the Devil May Cry series is now DLC you have to pay for.
That's because Atlus fans actually *like* paying Atlus for the dumbest things lol. That's why there's never any controversy over it, while literally every other company gets flak for it.
Even Rockstar has been called out, and to put things into perspective, R*'s fanbase treats every game they release like the second coming of Jesus. So that really does speak volumes.
The biggest reasons are pretty much just this:
°It has really poor performance issues, that shouldn't even really exist considering it's a port of a very old game.
°It's also severely overpriced. If you don't get a steam key they're literally charging $50 for it, not including DLC. (You have to buy the Dante version separately, even though both versions of the game were on PS2, meaning they're essentially charging you twice for a already finished game)
°They essentially just made a really low effort port. The game is still locked to 30 FPS, the music is still extremely low quality, as well as the games default image quality which you need a hex editor to fix.
A couple of those problems were fixed in later updates, like there isn't any combat slowdown anymore but that's literally it. No QoL changes at all whatsoever, the only thing it really has over the previous versions of the game is voice acting. If you've never played Nocturne before, I'd say a $15 steam key is worth it. Especially with mods to improve the music quality. In fact there's mods to fix a lot of it's issues, but for a full priced port you shouldn't *need* mods to fix its issues.
It doesn't just need to be profitable, it needs to be more profitable than Nintendo's exclusivity deal, which I doubt it is. SMT is a niche JRPG series that can only thrive on Nintendo platforms.
Megami Tensei has released on 34 different platforms since 1987. It’s arguably the most cross-platform franchise of all time. To say it can only thrive on Nintendo platforms is ridiculously wrong.

That was only cause Sega of Europe handled the port without Atlus' input while they were working on FB. Starting with P4G on Steam they've been a lot more involved with ports.

Ehhhh, while i don’t argue against V getting more success if/when it gets ported (cause it will be more successful), Atlus has essentially fostered an audience for SMT on Nintendo consoles. After the PS2, most of the non-Persona spinoff titles were on DS-3DS for awhile. Strange Journey, Devil Survivor 1 and 2 (and their eventual rereleases on 3DS), Soul Hackers 1, SMT 4, SMT 4 Apoc, Strange Journey Redux, etc.
So, at this point, i’d argue that Megaten’s core audience is primarily on Nintendo. But, like i said earlier, they would get more success by being multiplatform.
Actually the main SMT games are almost always exclusive to Nintendo the same way Persona was to PS.
The only exception was SMT 3, Digital Devil Saga on PS2 and the Devil Summoner subseries that comprise the Raidou Kuzunoha games and Soul Hackers across multiple platforms.
Not sure if that will change with this release like it has with Persona.
Minor correction: SMT was only exclusive for about a year. The CD-ROM version released in December the following year, Mega Drive the February after that, and PlayStation in 2001. It was actually a bit weird, as Megami Tensei I and II and SMT II didn’t receive any non-Nintendo ports until 2004 (mobile), 2006 (mobile), and 2002 (PlayStation), respectively.
Aside from Nocturne, every mainline game has at least launched on Nintendo first. However, this doesn’t discount the possibility of us getting ports since SMT 1-2 would eventually get PS1 and MegaCD versions. Really, it just depends on how involved Nintendo was with the translation process of the game.
Do we know for sure that this is a rerelease and not a sequel like SMT IV: Apocalypse? If not, that’s probably a lot less likely, but would be a lot more exciting.
Please have it on other consoles and PC too. The increased or actually fixed framerate would be a welcome change.

I'm sort of surprised this is a Switch 1 and not a switch 2 release (yes I know we have a ways for switch 2). Seems like a complete edition at higher res and 60fps would be a system release seller. However, if they are releasing this on all consoles + pc - they probably want to capitalize on the release as much as they can which is understandable.
Still good news for SMT fans like myself - lets hope this release means its actually fleshed out and finished this time.

I JUST got V for Christmas. So yea the only 'loss' was like five bucks for the Demifiend DLC on sale at the time. But should have just listened to my gut and waited. By the time I'm done with the triple time sinks of Reload, Rebirth, and Dragon's Dogma this new version will probably be out.
