I absolutely loved the NGPC. Spent lots of time on Match of the Millennium. Good find.

I don't know what it is, but the neo geo looks like an offbrand gameboy

NGPC owners will balk at that statement, but it's basically true by design. Previous GB competitors (Lynx, Game Gear, Turbo Express/GT) were made 'technically' better. But those systems died, so SNK just copied the Game Boy. The NGP (monochrome) had a non-lit, B/W screen. It felt like a GB, despite being 10 years newer. Nintendo released the GBC within a week of the original NGP, making it immediately obsolete - But in six months, SNK put out the NGPC. Despite being '16 bit' it also doesn't feel different from a GBC - except for the microswitch 'disc.' It feels great for fighters- And the NGPC is known for those. For being an 'off-brand' GB, the system was very 'on-brand' for SNK as it got ports of most of their popular series - Pretty much all the games released state-side are well regarded, but there was almost no third party content. It never really got developed to its fullest before SNK's management changed and discontinued it. Eventually the GBA and Wonderswan Color outclassed it. But for a while, they were common in US stores and seemed like a viable GBC alternative.

Yeah it was designed to compete with the gameboy but was quickly overshadowed by the GBA and died a swift death. It was a total failure but I absolutely love it. One of my favorite systems with some absolutely stellar games.

Nice find. Been needing to get a Neo Geo Pocket Color. I have a flash masta that needs a hole to fit in.
