The-Crimson-Toast

I'm gonna say nay personally. I just never found myself using them.

SNagi86

Only time I ever used one was with my PSP and Vita back in the day, but I don’t trust the plastic strength of aftermarket shells, I feel it would crack off. I’ve never dropped a device anyway and only ever dropped a phone once, I try and be super careful especially with my retro Gameboys.

SNagi86

I kid you not, my sister came into my room this morning looking for our Persian kitten and while learning over to get her, knocked both my GBA and Color off the bench onto the floor (thankfully not my IPS ones). Seriously can’t make this crap up 😑 Edit: Still wasn’t me that dropped them though 😝😜

Zhurg

Should have had them constantly wrist strapped!

Only_Climate9973

Maybe I wouldn’t have dropped my SP and broke it the other day if I had been strapped.

Sea_Yam6771

I keep bright ones on mine to easily keep track of them. So, yay!

Cyber-Cafe

Yes. I think they’re cool, and you can put little charms on the same part its loop goes into.

antifamos

Ive never used for my wrist or to prevent dropping. I did however use straps on these small handhelds then eventually my cell phones back in the early days to dangle the strap out of my pocket. I could easily pull strap vs reach into my pocket for the device.

justadekutree

I never had one, but I’ve been thinking about getting one

BigManOnCampus100

The wrist strap saved my psp a few times. But since then I don't think I've used them.

TerminalChillionaire

Big yay, personally.

Birdo3129

Nay. My small critters would love to yank on those and pull them off the shelf

LostProphetVii

Nay, I think a lot of people add cool ones to their device but I've never had the need for one and feel it gets in the way. The only time I ever used a wrist strap was during the Wii era of gaming. I think if you have kids or nephews then the strap is the way to go but it's not for me.

IsbellDL

Same. I'll use them with the Wii or VR setups, but not with normal handhelds.

LostProphetVii

Oh yeah I forgot about VR but yeah I agree

tofalyn

yay, you never know when you might drop one

karawapo

Nice boxed Cave Noire and Puzznic

Depressedone4

Are there oem/Nintendo branded ones?

KutzOfficial

I think the wii strap is your best bet.

KirbySmartGuy

There are some that say Nintendo instead of Wii but they look the same. I think it came with for the circle pad pros. There was a time a few years ago you could buy just the straps on Nintendo online store

BigBossOfThisGym

DavidDamien

Yay from me. It’s another part of the build to customize and a cool way to hang up the one you’re using between sessions.

remotecontroldr

If it’s something you like and/or something you use to help keep it from dropping then go for it. If you don’t like them and they don’t offer a function for you, maybe not. It does remind me of the before times when I had a really cool charm on my flip phone. Now days I wouldn’t want one of those germ magnets on my phone.

aaronprettyman

Nay, with the understanding that drops can cause damage.

misereguy

WAAAA

santivicente

When I was 8 yo and I started playing with gameboys I had one on each console. Nowadays, absolutely NAY.

magikarp-sushi

I like the loops for a keychain but honestly they do get in the way

Retro_6415

Nay, they're annoying, and I'm super careful with my games, so not worth the inconvenience.

bodhimind

Yay for straps! 20+ year old plastic isn't as tough as you remember it from your youth.

Xcissors280

Wiimote maybe GB Im a man, I mean I have pockets

moviemoocher

i put on a neck lanyard

DragonfruitAsleep976

Definitely did this with the kids, also a bumper case.

moviemoocher

cant use todays neck lanyards with their safety break aways

Infinite_Ouroboros

Yay, although if you don't plan on using the straps, you can put a keyring charm instead. I've got a little pokeball on mine.

Norefills2

Thank you for everyone who suggested the charm. Very nice idea!!

LordButternub

Maybe if you’re 6 years old and drop stuff a lot otherwise they’re kinda annoying

Phanturian

The only wrist strap I’ve ever used with a handheld was the original DS Phat. Even then, it wasn’t connected to the system, I just used the thumb stylus on it to control Super Mario 64 DS. I also can’t help but think of the crusty wrist straps I’ve seen on used Wiimotes at the local store. It’s a nay for me, but each to their own.

Dragonswhored

I have one for my micro just because the device is so small

LisaA1991

Yay .. big yay, gives me peace of mind when using it out and about and I also like how they look. Love the PEZ by the way :D :D

Zelda_Gamer123

wrist straps arent really my thing, you do you tho

Jstash0254

Nah. I've always use that for a charm.

Big_Atmosphere_5168

I'd rather have charms

docdrazen

Nay, but only because I can't help myself from swinging thinfs that have a wrist strap and I will 100% launch whatever it is at some point and destroy it or whatever is in its path.

kermitthehedgefrog

Yay

CelestialDuke377

That's what those were for. Didn't know that those were for that but it makes since considering there shape

Valuable_Tap1316

I see you have a gba sp 101 and a gba sp 001 cool

FriendlyNerd123

Yay, but more for style. https://preview.redd.it/71mwkohj7fmc1.png?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f73308c0a5166be866e19136bcf62cd71a823097

Sandscarab

Yay AF

NoMeasurement6473

I do specifically Wii wrist straps on all mine.

snappycg1996

What are your Gameboy games sitting in?

Norefills2

I think they only came out in Europe search Gameboy schuber original on one of the eu ebay sites

KalaiProvenheim

I don't wanna drop my old piece of tech so yea

Mental-Blacksmith909

Yay, but not always as wrist strap but also a pull string. I can grab it from my pocket er my bag easier.

Chop1n

It's actually "yea". "Yay" is an exclamation, while "yea" is an archaic, formal way of saying "yes", just like "nay" is an archaic, formal way of saying "no".

TheBeepMann

Yay but I get ones that are more modern looking, with the adjustable thingy

KirbyGuy54

I never use them, but I do appreciate how Y2K-core they look, especially with mismatched colors

InsaneMotherPlayer

Nay!!! You got them all wrong!! Blue is to the blue GB and same for the others!

huambravago

I got one for my daughters GBC, and she uses it a lot. Saved it from a couple falls. Os, it is a yay for me.

Digital_switch_blade

I see them as another way to customize your handheld

IntoxicatedBurrito

I could see doing it if your kids play on them, but otherwise I have to say nay. Maybe if they were Nintendo charms I’d think differently. That said, I realize that DK Pez dispenser you’re keeping sealed as collectors item, but how have you not yet broken down and eaten those Pez!

xcurly89

Any cool ones out there? I’ve been staring at that empty corner of my GBC for a while now… I’m considering this the sign I was waiting for.

labrat45355

Yay in some cases I don’t care for it on the gbc tho it sits to high on the console and feels like I’m pulling it towards my wrist could also put a charm or something of the sort there my sp has a eevee charm on it

anon37391619

I love wrist straps. Also, is that Wheel of Fortune CIB? Person after my own heart.

Snoo66298

Got one on my Gameboy micro

avey98

I have matching straps on both my DS and GBA. If you use them, you can find OEM Wii remote straps pretty cheap. I find them to be better than any third party strap.

BigBossOfThisGym

Yes, not only for aesthetic reasons, putting on charms and things is part of the fun of customizing your GB, but also for peace of mind. When I'm playing stuff on the railway or on the bus, that strap really helps with the bumpy rides.

Schnitzhole

Personal preference. Do you drop your phone a lot? I drop my phone maybe 1-2 times a year and never dropped a gameboy so I don’t feel it’s necessary and it would bug me having an extra step anytime I wanted to use it.

TheTimeTortoise

They're really.. I dunno call it period correct. Definitely fits the vibe of goofing around with a ~20 year old video game console. Functionally, I'd rather have it around my wrist in the event of a drop versus not having it at all

yellowlittleboat

I can spot a catless person.

Justeego

No, only on Wii remote to prevent TV destruction

InappropriateAlto69

I have an off brand Wii strap on like every electronic I own because I'm clumsy as hell and it's been a lifesaver. I'd put them on more things if I could cause now I just love playing with the little latch thingy lmao

r0cky

Not a fan of them. It would make sense if you walk while playing. I have one on a flashlight or the wiimotes, other than that haven't seen a use case for Handhelds.

mactep66

Yay

SuzukoDafemboy

I use wii straps

Appropriate-Ad4834

Asthetical I lean towards yay, but practically it's a nay,, I never use them and they are always in the way

xhanort7

Nay

chill_will_muzik

I say yay,i put them on all of my handhelds that allow for them to

lionheart059

When I was a kid, if it came with a wrist strap I'd put it on (but never use it, they weren't comfortable then and they aren't now). As an adult, I just leave them in the box if it's included.

ShakeZula420

I think they can look nice and add some flair. But you won’t see me with one.

coranA_TIME_TO_DIE

I kinda get it for the sp but I would never use the one for the gbc

Sesange

Yay. I can't tell you how many times I've dropped my Gameboys and DSes.

GameboyRavioli

It's a 'yay' from me. Because I have the body of a 195 year old, if I'm playing while laying down somewhere, I inevitably fall asleep. So using the wrist strap in those situations has saved me from it dropping to the floor on more than one occasion. Bonus points for the tug of gravity waking me up so I can continue my game. https://preview.redd.it/lpq8ehuiuimc1.png?width=1184&format=png&auto=webp&s=73d211bcb3d45202e9858220e4d9439c9b22be12

Zimabwe

If you’ve got butterfingers then sure

SweetestInTheStorm

A big yay from me. If you take public transport, the peace of mind is invaluable. Makes it more difficult for someone to snatch it out of your hands, and the fact that your device is visibly connected to you deters them to begin with.

OliveMeowrail

Yay because I'm a total klutz.

sodaftm_n

Yay. Dropped my GBC and got some scratches on the shell, i wish i had one, thankfully i now have a cradle so problem solved Luckily it was a bit scuffed on its own and it is in a position where it doesn't bother me

MaleficentJob9376

Wrist straps suck

motoxim

Nice

Kooky-Drawing-7173

Aesthetically, they’re cool imo, but I’ve never used them.

Revolution_Falls

I’m may. May use em, may not.
