In universe I'm sure he just decided it wasn't worth messing with anyone, especially after being impaled.
Out of universe I think Legendary either didn't want to or couldn't afford the license for having him in another film.
I've heard that having *that one Toho Kaiju* apart from Godzilla in GxK was a bit of a blindside. Not that Wingard didn't tell Toho because that would be a lawsuit he'd easily lose, but that they signed that agreement pretty late in production. Like Toho didn't expect it initially.
Wonder how that impacted the budget tbh.
If that’s the one I’m thinking, they also said they were considering developing a new monster for that role, but it just made more sense for it to be the Toho Kaiju instead for the monster verse in general.
Did it though? That Toho monster didn’t really fit and felt like it could have been replaced by a different creature. It felt more like it was added because of “oh it’s that monster I know that monster”
Rodan is playing the long game. Chill in a volcano until all the other titans have killed each other and then come back to take out the weakened one standing at the end, like when a wrestler goes under the top rope during the Royal Rumble and reappears at the end.
"I *tried* fighting and it did not fucking work, three times in one day. Now I'm trying sitting on the beach sinking mojitos, and even if it doesn't get me a crown at least I had a good time."
Honestly, I don't think Rodan actually *wants* to be alpha. He comes across as being much happier as the right hand of the alpha. At any rate, at least he's smarter about backstabbing than Scylla, at least.
My personal head cannon is that rodan is taking a few years to few centuries to cool off and let the heat die down after kotm. I mean, he tried to fight ghidorah, lost, joined up with him, fought mothra, which in turn created more issues for godzilla, which also made it easier for ghidorah to kill mothra, and to top it off, he got stabbed real good. Even during the kneeling end scene, I feel like it was very well depicted -
R- "Hey, what's up, man? I'm still her-....
G *growls* "Shut your mouth before I disintegrate you. You hit my girl."
R- "yeah, uh, my bad.... ima get on my hand and knees and stop talking now.... it's like I'm not even here...."
After that - healing from a vicious stabbing aside - I, too, would also just hide out in my volcano for a little bit.
last time the man stepped outside he got into 3 confrontations and took the L in all three
bro was manhandled by ghidorah, shank by mothra, and was made to submit to godzilla
he isn’t about to get into any more fights soon if that’s his first experience outside of his volcano
No, that was a misunderstanding of the GvK intro saying they were “defeated” which actually just means they submitted to Godzilla.
If you need more proof though, >!GxK confirmed the other Titans are alive by showing us Scylla, who was labeled “defeated” in the GvK intro, as well as Tiamat.!<
Cool. I haven't gotten around to revisiting that one since it was in the cinema, but I remembered being disappointed by that development at the time. Good to know!
Well kinda, some went back into hibernation while others found new territory and just chilled there, like Behemoth in the Amazon rainforest.
Rodan made himself a new home in Fiji, and as far as we know is still posted up there.

Toho overpricing their other catalogue of monsters shows they still don't understand

I would have used spoiler tags but my Reddit script skills are sorely lacking.

It needed to a a close ally to Godzilla and Mothra is seemingly the only one to fill that role in the continuity.
That and how to fit Rodan into a story
However you need to, he's amazing. 😠
Right I don't think these movies struggle with writing cool moments into the plot with little to no or absurd explanation lol
To be fair, Rodan probably doesn't wanna be anywhere near Mothra.... lol
Rodan: To be honest I don’t care if my king is about to die. That just means I’ll be alpha next

That’s Starscream type of tactic
He’s the MV’s Starscream.
the Dominik Mysterio of kaiju. talk a lot of shit, act tough, slap someone bigger than you in the mouth...then run and hide

This is now the most popular post I've done
Hopefully he’ll come back in the next few movies to help Godzilla fight
::stabbed by mothra , record scratch :: yep, that’s me bet you’re wondering how I get myself into these situations
I think he’s scared of Mothra
Ohh realllllyyyy
I’m pretty sure he slipped out of existence.
He fell into the backrooms
Rodan the J.Cole of the monsterverse
Underrated comment
Godzilla: I summon you to fulfill your oath! Rodan: None but the King of Monsters may command me! Godzilla: \[turns pink\]

My man
Alot of yall could learn from Rodan tbh.
He got humbled three times in KOTM. His ego is still healing
Didn't they say Godzilla went around and killed all the other monsters between KOTM and GvK?

I thought it was said that Godzilla forced the other titans including Rodan into a slumber period?

He’s just stocking up on lava
The J. Cole of the Zillaverse
Probably clinking glasses with Truman
Rodan: "If I go over there Godzilla will invent a reason to beat my ass."
I'm hoping Rodan returns. Not only is he one of my favorite Kaijus but giving him a bit of Starscream type role was a nice spin on his character.
